Lists for Assignments

Quick lists can help you stay on track. These cool tools let you add and mark off items as you go.

synchro-extension

Synchro is a task tracker extension built for students. A clean, intuitive tool, it lets you add tasks, specify the deadlines, and choose the current status.

Synchro lists all the tasks under three columns- to-do, in progress, and completed. As you work on your tasks, you can drag and drop them into the relevant columns.

Once you're done, you can completely delete the task. Synchro also color codes the tasks, depending on the due dates, and sends task reminders. It integrates with Canvas LMS and automatically adds assignments from Canvas as tasks.

What's best about the\is extension is its beautiful layout. The extension adds colored rings for each course to show the progress.

Don't get distracted by social media when you are doing homework. Use one of these awesome tools to help you focus and finish.

1. ReCall Study Time

chrome homework extensions - recall study time

Set up your study session, mark the pages you want to monitor, and get to work with ReCall Study Time. You can choose from two hours for those quick homework sessions or 24 hours for the all-nighters. Then, select the social media sites to block like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

If you feel yourself weaken and head to one of the monitored sights, you will instead be greeted with a nasty-gram like the one above. If you have trouble staying away from social media to get your homework done, check out ReCall Study Time.

2. Focus Mode

focus mode screenshot

When you start your study or research session, just hit the extension button in the toolbar and turn on the toggle button . Then, when you try to access one of the monitored pages, you will view a blurred screen with a message that focus mode is on.

When you finish, turn off the toggle button and check out your distraction attempts if you're curious. You can also take a five-minute break when you're tempted to check your feed.

How to use homework to support student success.

  • by: Sandra Chafouleas

  • Community Engagement

Female teacher wearing mask helps young student.

Editor’s Note: Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor Sandra Chafouleas shares insights on supporting students’ homework during the pandemic in the following piece, which originally appeared  in Psychology Today , where she publishes a blog.

COVID has brought many changes in education. What does it mean for homework?

School assignments that a student is expected to do outside of the regular school day—that’s homework. The general guideline is 10 minutes of nightly homework per grade level beginning after kindergarten. This amounts to just a few minutes for younger elementary students to up to 2 hours for high school students.

The guidance seems straightforward enough, so why is homework such a controversial topic? School disruptions, including extended periods of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, have magnified the controversies yet also have provided an opportunity to rethink the purpose and value of homework.

Debates about the value of homework center around two primary issues: amount and inequity.

First, the amount of assigned homework may be much more than the recommended guidelines. Families report their children are stressed out over the time spent doing homework. Too much homework can challenge well-being given the restricted time available for sleep, exercise, and social connection. In a 2015 study , for example, parents reported their early elementary children received almost three times the recommended guidelines. In high school, researchers found an average of three hours of homework per night for students living in economically privileged communities.

“ Debates about the value of homework center around two primary issues: amount and inequity.”

Second, homework can perpetuate inequities. Students attending school in less economically privileged communities may receive little to no homework, or have difficulty completing it due to limited access to needed technology. This can translate into fewer opportunities to learn and may contribute to gaps in achievement.

There isn’t a ton of research on the effects of homework, and available studies certainly do not provide a simple answer. For example, a 2006 synthesis of studies suggested a positive influence between homework completion and academic achievement for middle and high school students. Supporters also point out that homework offers additional opportunities to engage in learning and that it can foster independent learning habits such as planning and a sense of responsibility. A more recent study involving 13-year-old students in Spain found higher test scores for those who were regularly assigned homework in math and science, with an optimal time around one hour—which is roughly aligned with recommendations. However, the researchers noted that ability to independently do the work, student effort, and prior achievement were more important contributors than time spent.

Opponents of homework maintain that the academic benefit does not outweigh the toll on well-being. Researchers have observed student stress, physical health problems, and lack of life balance, especially when the time spent goes over the recommended guidelines. In a survey of adolescents , over half reported the amount and type of homework they received to be a primary source of stress in their lives. In addition, vast differences exist in access and availability of supports, such as internet connection, adult assistance, or even a place to call home, as 1.5 million children experience homelessness in the United States

The COVID-19 pandemic has re-energized discussion about homework practices, with the goal to advance recommendations about how, when, and with whom it can be best used. Here’s a summary of key strategies:

Strategies for Educators

Make sure the tasks are meaningful and matched..

First, the motto “ quality over quantity ” can guide decisions about homework. Homework is not busy-work, and instead should get students excited about learning. Emphasize activities that facilitate choice and interest to extend learning, like choose your own reading adventure or math games. Second, each student should be able to complete homework independently with success. Think about Goldilocks: To be effective, assignments should be just right for each learner. One example of how do this efficiently is through online learning platforms that can efficiently adjust to skill level and can be completed in a reasonable amount of time.

Ensure access to resources for task completion.

One step toward equity is to ensure access to necessary resources such as time, space, and materials. Teach students about preparing for homework success, allocating classroom time to model and practice good study habits such as setting up their physical environment, time management, and chunking tasks. Engage in conversations with students and families to problem-solve challenges When needed, connect students with homework supports available through after-school clubs, other community supports, or even within a dedicated block during the school day.

Be open to revisiting homework policies and practices.

The days of penalizing students for not completing homework should be long gone. Homework is a tool for practicing content and learning self-management. With that in mind, provide opportunities for students to communicate needs, and respond by revising assignments or allowing them to turn in on alternative dates. Engage in adult professional learning about high-quality homework , from value (Should I assign this task?) to evaluation (How should this be graded? Did that homework assignment result in expected outcomes?). Monitor how things are going by looking at completion rates and by asking students for their feedback. Be willing to adapt the homework schedule or expectations based on what is learned.

Strategies for Families

Understand how to be a good helper..

When designed appropriately, students should be able to complete homework with independence. Limit homework wars by working to be a good helper. Hovering, micromanaging, or doing homework for them may be easiest in the moment but does not help build their independence. Be a good helper by asking guiding questions, providing hints, or checking for understanding. Focus your assistance on setting up structures for homework success, like space and time.

Use homework as a tool for communication.

Use homework as a vehicle to foster family-school communication. Families can use homework as an opportunity to open conversations about specific assignments or classes, peer relationships, or even sleep quality that may be impacting student success. For younger students, using a daily or weekly home-school notebook or planner can be one way to share information. For older students, help them practice communicating their needs and provide support as needed.

Make sure to balance wellness.

Like adults, children need a healthy work-life balance. Positive social connection and engagement in pleasurable activities are important core principles to foster well-being . Monitor the load of homework and other structured activities to make sure there is time in the daily routine for play. Play can mean different things to different children: getting outside, reading for pleasure, and yes, even gaming. Just try to ensure that activities include a mix of health-focused activities such as physical movement or mindfulness downtime.

4 Ways Parents Can Deal With Summer Homework, According to Experts Say

Most schools assign summer homework with good intentions, but they don't always know how to make school-break assignments meaningful.

maximizing learning and engaging students

School’s out for summer! Around the country, students have chucked their backpacks and planners aside and rejoiced. That is, if they don’t have summer homework.

A hotly debated topic in education, summer assignments can involve reading, online work, packets, and/or real-life enrichment opportunities in communities that students are responsible for completing by the time school resumes. It’s become a burden for some families whose parents work in the summer, or who lack teacher support or internet access. On the other hand, some parents want their children doing summer work to keep them busy and engaged in academics, and to prevent the “summer slide” — a regression in learning some educators believe occurs between school years.

Licensed Psychologist Connie McReynolds , Ph.D., says summer work can sometimes cause children to feel like they’re still at school. “It can lead to burnout before the next school year begins,” she says. For others, she says, the structure and routine are beneficial.

So summer homework can be advantageous — if it’s done right. The bad news is that, in a lot of cases, it isn’t. Here’s what the experts had to say about if, when and how summer work should be assigned — and how parents can cope if their school is missing the mark.

When Summer Homework Is Done Right

It should be intentional and (actually) educational..

“Summer work for the sake of raising and/or setting expectations for rigor is baseless,” Davis says. “Students often put off the work until the last minute and complete the work for compliance, not true learning. And that’s only exacerbated when the teachers don’t create a meaningful classroom connection to the summer work.” This points to a problem with practices around all homework — are they meaningful practice, or just a check-the-box completion grade?

Teachers might feel they can’t teach all the material during the school year. But a 2023 study found that summer learning had a small impact on math test scores for students but not reading. Additional recent data has shown that the impact of the “summer slide” depends on a variety of factors, including grade and poverty levels.

What parents can do : “The teacher should provide a clear connection to how the summer work is going to enhance the learning and/or enrich the learning that will occur at the start of the year,” Davis says. “If there isn’t a clear explanation of the purpose of the summer work, parents should reach out to the teacher directly for clarity regarding the purpose of the work and if it is required." Don’t worry about being a nudge. “Parents should keep in mind they are advocates for their children and asking questions for clarity creates a two way dialogue with the teacher,” she adds.

It should come with tech and academic support.

A key pillar of homework is homework help — that is, if the purpose is real learning.

Many parents can probably relate to a scenario like this: “Hey mom, I’m supposed to work on a school app called blah blah blah.”

“Oh, okay, what’s the password?”

“I don’t know.”

And even if they can log in, what happens if kids don’t understand the assignments? Many parents can relate to not knowing the answer to a homework question a kid is asking, and not knowing which resources to use to find it. Adding in homework help around work hours can add stress to a family.

Not a whole lot of learning is happening in these situations, which all lead back to one missing aspect to effective homework practices — teacher support. Teachers are off in the summer, but if students aren’t, there’s an issue with technical troubleshooting and guided instruction.

“Homework should reinforce skills learned in the classroom,” Davis says. “Unfortunately all too often students are left to complete homework without the foundational knowledge to complete it to enhance their learning. During the summer months teachers are typically not available leaving the students to complete the homework with little to no direction which could result in them replicating bad habits without any checkpoints or feedback.”

What parents can do : It’s absolutely reasonable to expect summer support to have necessary technology and instructional guidance, even in the summer. “Students should be able to access the teacher to provide clarity, answer questions and/or to provide feedback,” Davis says. She again recommends communicating with the school as early as possible about how students are supposed to get tech or instructional support.

It should be inclusive and low-stress.

A student with an Individualized Education Plan, or a 504 plan, who typically has extra homework time looks at a large packet at the start of summer. Do they still have double time? What resources are available to them? These are concerns that all families, but especially those with additional academic and learning needs, have to navigate.

“Parents of children with ADHD are naturally concerned about whether being away from academic studies over the summer will lead to the ‘summer slide,’” McReynolds says. “This concern leads parents to struggle with whether to push on through the summer or give children a break from the pressure.”

Students who don’t have access to support can see an increase in academic-related stress too. According to a 2021 study by Challenge Success, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Stanford University Graduate School of Education, 56% of students reported an increase in stress from school . The same report found that during the school year, students spent an average of three hours on homework each weeknight, with 51% reporting they spent more time on homework than they did in the past. But 42% reported they had a decreased level of engagement for school and learning. So, experts are torn on whether homework actually increases engagement, and even learning.

“All too often the completion or lack thereof is utilized to gatekeep students out of higher level courses,’ Davis says. “In the event a student faces this, parents need to actively advocate for inclusion in the class regardless of completion of the summer work.”

What parents can do: “Individual accommodations and modifications included in a student’s IEP/504 must be taken into account,” Davis says. “Another approach to summer work would be for the parent and student to create a scaffolded schedule to complete the work as opposed to waiting until the final weeks of summer to complete it all at once. Ultimately, the mental health of the student is most important and parents and/or the student should actively communicate with the teacher directly to discuss concerns throughout the summer.”

High schoolers who are taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes, which sometimes require summer work, can consider opting for a College Credit Plus (CPP) class, when appropriate for them. CPP classes often carry the same weight without the summer work, but it varies state to state, and parents and students should ensure the desired university they would like to attend accepts CPP classes as credit as they do with AP. Pro tip from Davis: Ask around or ask the teacher before April or May to determine summer homework plans for an AP class, because you might miss the deadline to do CPP if you wait until summer.

It should even be…fun!

There just might be room in summer homework for a bit of enjoyment, with the right set up.

“I believe summer homework is detrimental for several reasons,” Davis says. “It perpetuates burnout … preventing students from fully relaxing and recharging during their break. This can negatively impact their mental health and overall well-being.” So, the only summer homework our experts are interested in are fun activities that enrich family or community life, or personal development.

Emily Pendergrass , associate professor of the Practice of Literacy and Reading Education at Vanderbilt University says summer homework should be meaningful for families, teachers and learning. “It should be interactive,” she says. “It shouldn’t be one size fits all…we should be moving towards learning and curiosity.”

Summer homework should move into meaningful activities, Pendergrass says. For example, instead of keeping a reading log that just lists the titles of books and how many minutes were read, students can be tasked with drawing a picture of what they read, writing an alternate ending, or making a short video about the reading to share with classmates when they’re back to school.

What parents can do: In the end, there’s no faster way to get students to hate school than assigning a classic piece of literature, and telling them good luck, see you in the fall. Pushback from parents, community and students themselves can ensure summer work, if necessary, is equitable and purposeful, well-supported and inclusive. Or, we can just cut it all together and go read something fun by the pool…

When to Call It Off

If your child is too stressed about summer homework, you and your child, and their educators, can discuss together if the right move is to simply not do it . What are the consequences? The ramifications of this depend on the school, and the program. In some places, summer work might not account for a large portion of their final grade and a student might be confident they can make it up during the school year. In others, they might be able to choose a less rigorous course without a summer homework requirement. Then again, skipping summer homework might result in failing a class if the summer assignments are weighted heavily in the final grade. You can also consider asking for an alternative or makeup assignment, which often would be considered on a case-by-case basis. “If summer work is being graded on completion, and not truly being utilized at the start of the year to extend instruction, the student, parent and teacher need to actively discuss the true purpose of the work,” Davis says.

What Is Homework?

Homework is work that teachers give students to complete outside of the school day. Homework is meant to provide students with practice for what was learned in school or an extension of what was done in class. Students are expected to complete the homework and return to school with the completed homework assignment.

Why Do Teachers Give Homework?

Most teachers give students homework so that they can practice something that was taught to them during class.

For example, if a teacher is teaching students how to add decimal numbers then the homework assignment would be for students to try adding decimals at home independently.

In my science class I never give my students homework that isn’t meaningful or practice towards a learning standard.

Gone are the days of giving homework that is “busy work”.

Also, when students return the following day their homework assignment is incorporated into the lesson so they quickly figure out that completing homework is necessary.

Some teachers, myself included, will use homework as a formative assessment.

If you are unsure what formative assessments are then you need to check out this article I wrote recently.

What Does Homework Look Like?

Homework can be almost anything.

Some examples of homework may include a simple worksheet to complete, a long term project, research, reading, a journal entry, completing something online, a drawing, or the continuation of something started in school, and just about anything else.

Homework isn’t limited to one specific thing.

With my eight grade students I have assigned videos for them to watch, creating a slideshow, completing a CER (more about the CER here) , conduct a survey for data collection, and more.

I have even had them collect leaves to identify the following day in our science class!

If you are a teacher reading this make sure to make your homework assignments interesting and worthwhile, don’t just assign homework as busy work.

Do Teachers Have To Give Homework?

No, teachers don’t have to give homework.

Usually teachers have discretion whether or not they are going to assign homework.

Personally, the principal or school district I work for has no idea how often I assign homework or what I assign for homework.

This decision to give or not give homework solely comes down to the classroom teacher.

The Importance Of Homework

The importance of homework is a heavily debated topic these days.

On one hand you have teachers that will say it is necessary that students continue learning outside the classroom in order to be more successful inside the classroom.

On the other hand some teachers will say that homework isn’t necessary as long as students are working hard during the school day.

Another reason homework is seen as not necessary is because students these days are so busy out of school that they don’t have time to complete homework.

Who is right?

I’d say it’s probably somewhere in the middle.

There is nothing wrong with a little homework for students but it shouldn’t be assigned every night.

Composing Functions with Other Functions

Sets of Points Functions at Points Functions into Functions Domains & Decompositions Word Probs Inverse Functions

Thus far, we have done composition by points, with those points either listed in sets or else displayed on graphs; and we have evaluated compositions at given input values.

We can also evaluate compositions symbolically; that is, without a numerical input value.

Composite Functions

What's the difference between evaluating at an expression and composing with another function?

In practice, there is not much difference between evaluating a function at a formula or expression, and composing two functions. There's a notational difference, of course, but evaluating f  ( x ) at y 2 , on the one hand, and composing f  ( x ) with g ( x ) =  y 2 , on the other hand, have you doing the exact same steps and getting the exact same answer. So you've actually kinda already done function composition.

Until now, when you were given a function f  ( x ) , you could plug a number or another variable in for x . You could even get fancy and plug in an entire expression for x . For example, given f  ( x ) = 2 x  + 3 , you could find f  ( y 2  − 1) by plugging y 2  − 1 in for x to get:

f  ( y 2  − 1) = 2( y 2  − 1) + 3         = 2 y 2  − 2 + 3         = 2 y 2  + 1

In function composition, you're usually plugging entire functions in for the x . In other words, when you're doing composition of functions, you're almost always "getting fancy" with what you're plugging in to a function.

It is simpler to evaluate a composition at a point because you can simplify as you go, since you'll always just be plugging in numbers and simplifying at each step.

On the other hand, evaluating a symbolic compositon, where you're first plugging x into some function and then plugging that function into some other function, can be much messier. But the process works just as the at-a-number composition does, and using parentheses — to be carefully explicit at each step — will be even more helpful.

What is an example of composing one function's formula with another?

  • Given f  ( x ) = 2 x  + 3 and g ( x ) = − x 2  + 5 , find ( f  ∘  g )( x ) .

In this composition, I am not trying to find a certain numerical value. Instead, I am trying to find the formula that results from plugging the formula for g ( x ) into the formula for f  ( x ) .

I will write the formulas at each step, using parentheses to indicate where the inputs should go:

( f ∘ g )( x ) = f  ( g ( x ))

    = f  (− x 2 + 5)

    = 2(            ) + 3

    = 2(− x 2 + 5) + 3

    = −2 x 2 + 10 + 3

    = −2 x 2 + 13

This final line, being as simplified as I can go, gives me my answer.

( f ∘ g )( x ) = −2 x 2 + 13

If you plug in 1 for the x in the above, you will get:

( f ∘ g )(1) = −2(1) 2 + 13

= −2 + 13 = 11

This is the same answer we got before , when we were evaluating at a point. Previously, we'd plugged a number into g ( x ) , found a new value, plugged that value into f  ( x ) , and simplified the result. This time, we plugged a formula into f  ( x ) , simplified the formula, plugged the same number in as before, and simplified the result. The final numerical answers were the same.

If you've done the symbolic composition (the composition with the formulas) correctly, you'll get the same values either way, regardless of the value you pick for x . This can be a handy way of checking your work.

  • Given f  ( x ) = 2 x  + 3 and g ( x ) = − x 2  + 5 , find ( g  ∘  f )( x ) .

In this exercise, I'll be doing the plug-n-chug in the opposite order from the previous exercise.

( g ∘ f )( x ) = g ( f  ( x ))

    = g (2 x + 3)

    = −(          ) 2 + 5

    = −(2 x + 3) 2 + 5

    = −(4 x 2 + 12 x + 9) + 5

    = −4 x 2 − 12 x − 9 + 5

    = −4 x 2 − 12 x − 4

This doesn't simplify any further, so I'm done.

( g ∘ f  )( x ) = −4 x 2 − 12 x − 4

Algebra Tutors

There is something you should note from these two symbolic examples. Look at the results I got:

( g ∘ f )( x ) = −4 x 2 − 12 x − 4

That is, ( f  ∘  g )( x ) is not the same as ( g  ∘  f  )( x ) . This is true in general. You should assume that the compositions ( f  ∘  g )( x ) and ( g  ∘  f  )( x ) are going to be different.

In particular, composition is not the same thing as multiplication. The open dot " ∘ " is not the same as a multiplication dot " • ", nor does it mean the same thing.

Multiplication: always true

f  ( x ) • g ( x ) = g ( x ) • f  ( x )

Composition: usually false

( f ∘ g )( x ) = ( g ∘ f )( x )

You cannot reverse the order in composition and expect to end up with the same result. Composition is not flexible like multiplication; composition is an entirely different process. Do not try to multiply functions when you are supposed to be plugging them into each other.

By the way, if you remember learning about the associative, commutative, and transitive properties of real numbers, and if you remember wondering, "Why do I need to know this stuff?", this is why: so that you can recognize here that the commutative property does not hold. Function composition is an operation which is not commutative.

  • Given f  ( x ) = 2 x  + 3 and g ( x ) = − x 2  + 5 , find ( f  ∘  f  )( x ) .

Do not mistake this composition as being the square of the function f  ( x ) . Because function composition is not commutative, the result will *not* be equal to ( f  ( x )) 2 , which is 4 x 2  + 12 x  + 9 . Instead, I get:

( f ∘ f  )( x ) = f  ( f  ( x ))

    = f  (2 x + 3)

    = 2(         ) + 3

    = 2(2 x + 3) + 3

    = 4 x + 6 + 3

    = 4 x + 9

This is as simplified as the expression can get, so I have my answer:

( f ∘ f  )( x )) = 4 x + 9

  • Given f  ( x ) = 2 x  + 3 and g ( x ) = − x 2  + 5 , find ( g  ∘  g )( x ) .

My work looks like this:

( g ∘ g )( x ) = g( g ( x ))

    = −(           ) 2 + 5

    = −(− x 2 + 5) 2 + 5

    = −( x 4 − 10 x 2 + 25) + 5

    = − x 4 + 10 x 2 − 25 + 5

    = − x 4 + 10 x 2 − 20

This is fully simplified, so my answer is:

( g ∘ g )( x ) = − x 4 + 10 x 2 − 20

What Saints Should Be On Your Fantasy Football Draft List?

John hendrix | jul 11, 2024.

  • New Orleans Saints

Fantasy Football season is right around the corner, and many players will start putting in more time doing their homework to see who can help them defend their crown or improve from last season. Although it isn't what it really used to be, the New Orleans Saints are still a team that could help you in some areas.

Like Saints News Network did last season , we're back to give you an early preview for the black and gold and give you some insight to consider on who you might target when your draft gets underway. We'll be sure to give you another when we get into the thick of training camp as well.

Be sure to check out the SI hub for Fantasy Football for all of your needs for your draft. Also keep in mind that the Saints have a bye week in Week 12. Here's the skinny on potential Saints Fantasy Football targets.

New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Targets

Chris Olave

Saints You Have To Draft

  • Chris Olave (19th) - He's the safest option when it comes to the Saints, and he's primed for an even bigger year in his third season. Olave has already said that he desires to go from being good to 'elite' in 2024, and without Michael Thomas in the picture, he's the top receiving option for New Orleans. I looked at the track history and potential for him in more detail at the beginning of June , and he should be a good WR1 consideration for most teams.
  • Alvin Kamara (31st) - The Saints have expressed a desire to be more of a run first type of team, which would mean good things for Kamara. Now, there's obviously the issue of him wanting a reworked contract and the possibility of him not being around for training camp, but we'll worry about that as it gets closer. Quite simply put, Kamara is going to be the Christian McCaffrey in Klint Kubiak's offense. Fantasy owners have to remember that he was suspended three games to start last season, and his production should go up.
  • Rashid Shaheed (146th) - Fantasy owners will be very excited to add Shaheed to their team in the mid-to-late rounds of their draft. The new return rule will be beneficial, and he should see an increase from his 75 targets a season ago. Quietly, he put up 719 yards on 46 catches with 5 touchdowns, and right now he is WR2 for New Orleans.

Worth A Look

  • Derek Carr (173rd) - Carr comes in in the bottom tier of quarterbacks in most rankings, but is that right? From Week 14-17, he was one of the hottest players, throwing 12 touchdowns and a pick on 96 completions for 998 yards. What you need to know is that the Kubiak offense will help him out a lot, and the play he had down the stretch for New Orleans is more of what you could expect from him. If you need a bye week fill-in or are looking for a backup, he's going to be a solid option, but don't discount drafting and having him when injuries happen to others.

Proceed With Caution

  • Taysom Hill (161st) - Fantasy owners know there's a boom or bust element with Taysom Hill in their lineup, and when he hit, it was quite rewarding. The good news is that he's going to have much better usage that will hopefully be more consistent under Klint Kubiak . He was lining up all over the place in OTAs and minicamp. He should be listed as a tight end and will be a sneaky later round add that you should target, but wait some before you plug him into the lineup.
  • Juwan Johnson (200th) - Johnson's 2024 is off to a less than ideal start with him having surgery on his foot , an injury that developed in the offseason and was bothering him during practices. He was one of the hotter players during Fantasy Football Playoffs in Weeks 14-17, but surely frustrated some fantasy owners who drafted him. Monitor the injury and see where he's at before looking his way.
  • A.T. Perry - After spending the first half of the season being a frequent inactive, Perry made his presence known against the Vikings. He had a quiet game against the Falcons the following week, but then went on a string where he made a big play in each of the next four games, including a big touchdown grab against the Rams. His final performance against the Falcons in Week 18 (3-53-2 TDs) left a strong impression and could get him more targets and work in 2024, but he'll have competition.
  • Jamaal Williams - The Saints still plan on using Williams, especially because of his running style. However, last year was a major step back from his 2022 campaign where he got 17 touchdowns. There might be another New Orleans running back who you should look at first.

Rookie Watch (Dynasty)

  • Spencer Rattler - He's going to battle out the backup job with Jake Haener, and Haener has the leg up right now in the competition. Each should get a good workload in training camp and the preseason, and Rattler might not be the answer for now, but he could be someone for the future for sure. Stash him.
  • Bub Means - The Saints receiving corps has a lot of mouths to feed, and Means can get lost and overlooked a little. He'll get his opportunities in training camp, and he can develop nicely under new wide receivers coach Keith Williams, formerly of the Ravens. He'll be worth a stash.
  • Dallin Holker - He's not locked in yet, but this is a name to remember and watch throughout training camp. With Juwan Johnson's injury and Taysom Hill's exact role unknown, that leaves Foster Moreau for some potential increased targets and also the undrafted rookie out of Colorado State that has impressed early on.

D/ST Leagues

For starters, remember that the league changed up the special teams rules, so that should actually help revive this position a little. New Orleans comes in with a Top-10 ranked fantasy unit in this department, and actually ranked eighth last season in scoring. The sack output should hopefully go up from last year's 34, especially with the addition of Chase Young. They were strong in the turnover department last year, coming in 4th in the NFL with 29 total. They still have a formidable unit that should turn into a nice fantasy unit.

IDP Rundown

  • Demario Davis - Davis once again turned in a triple-digit tackle season (121) and was a Top-25 IDP. He also notched 6.5 sacks and forced and recovered a fumble. He's one of the top options if you're looking. He simply doesn't show signs of slowing down.
  • Carl Granderson - He was the 8th-highest scoring defensive end last season, leading New Orleans with 8.5 sacks and turning in a career-high 78 total tackles. With the addition of Chase Young, this could be a double-digit sack year for Granderson.
  • Pete Werner - Werner was 7 tackles shy of hitting 100 last year. He appeared in 16 games last season and also had a half-sack and 2 fumble recoveries. For now, he's still the main guy to pair with Davis in the nickel, which New Orleans loves to play a lot.
  • Chase Young - He's getting closer to returning after the neck surgery, and he's been around to learn everything. He's definitely determined this season and hopefully helps New Orleans revive their pass rush.
  • Cam Jordan - Jordan's workload and production wasn't so high last year, but he also played through injury too. The franchise's all-time leading sack artist still has plenty left in the tank, so keep him on your watch list at least.
  • Willie Gay Jr. - Fresh off a Super Bowl win with the Chiefs, Gay Jr. returns closer to home and looks to get a lot more playing time in New Orleans. He's a ball of energy and is quite underrated. He could be an interesting one to watch.
  • Marshon Lattimore - Lattimore's been on the wrong side of things for the past two seasons, but he's dialed in and ready to show people that he's still an elite corner. In 2021, he was just outside of the Top-100. He could be a major rebound candidate.
  • Paulson Adebo - Adebo finished just outside the Top-75 in scoring last year, and naturally it depends on the stats that your league uses, but he finished 3rd in the NFL last year with 18 pass defenses. He also had 4 picks, a couple of forced fumbles and fumble recoveries to go along with a career-high 76 tackles. He's in a contract year too, for what it's worth.
  • Alontae Taylor - Taylor's first year in the slot was certainly a mixed bag, but that doesn't discount the fact that he tied for 9th in the league with 14 pass defenses last season. He got his first career interception last season and finished with two, notched a sack and turned in 75 total tackles.
  • Tyrann Mathieu - Mathieu had 75 tackles, 4 picks, 9 pass defenses and scored a TD last year against the Pats. He's still going strong and is worth a look, depending on how deep your IDPs are. Wait and see how the safety group comes together to look at either Johnathan Abram or Jordan Howden.

Rashid Shaheed, Derek Carr, Taysom Hill

  • Kendre Miller (166th) - Alvin Kamara should get anywhere from 45-60% of the offensive snaps in 2024, and Miller would be a favorite to get more work. His performance in the season finale against the Falcons was what we expected to see all year long, but an injury sidelined him for seven games. Before that, he was putting up some production. In deeper leagues, he is someone to look for.
  • Cedrick Wilson Jr. - Just put him on the radar for now, but he's been the primary slot guy early on. He could have a pretty big resurgence if everything sticks. The potential would be how he was with the Cowboys in 2021 (45-602-6 TDs). Of course, the past two years of production haven't given much.
