27 Free Online Games for Speech Therapy You Need to Know About

Teletherapy speech therapy activities like these 27 open-ended online games make planning easy! Find easy games for toddlers like Colorful Ships and great games for bigger kids like Frost Bite and Basketball. #speechsprouts #speechtherapygames #speechtherapy #teletherapy

Online games that are quick to play are perfect for speech teletherapy.

Like many SLPs right now, I’m a newly minted teletherapist due to school closures during the COVID 19 pandemic. After three months of diving into speech therapy telepractice this spring, I quickly realized that I need more tricks up my sleeve to keep my students engaged with me online! Thirty minutes of pure drill time wasn’t cutting it. It wasn’t long before they started looking at me with eyes that said “What else have you got?”

And…like a bunch of you, I’ll be headed back to school seeing my students online, at least for now. So it’s time to gather up some great resources to keep participation and interest high!

It’s important to mix it up with a variety of activities to keep students engaged during online speech therapy sessions.

Especially the youngest ones. Gee- in that respect it’s not unlike in-person sessions, is it?

I may have 2-3 different activities during a session. including books, real games (I take their “turn” for them in front of the camera), puppets, toys for the younger crowd, riddles, and worksheets we could draw or write on with annotation tools. I also love Boom Cards  and digital resources like interactive pdfs. I like to get my kiddos up and moving sometimes too. We all need that!

Online games are a favorite activity for my speech therapy students.

No prep for you, fun for them. If you are using a platform like Zoom where you can give your students control, any of these games are great. If you can’t give students control, look at the online board games that automatically advance. You can click the dice for your students.

I keep a document of links on my desktop so I can head over to a great online game quickly during a session. Ready for a list to make your teletherapy planning easier? Here you go!

Here are some of my favorite sites for engaging, quick-play online games.

I’ve played a lot of games y’all, and I’ve listed games from these sites that load easily, are quick to play, motivating, and won’t take away too much therapy time! You may want to look through the main sites and see if there are more games you love.

Search by skill type (ex: plurals) and then sort by price low-to-high to find FREE cards/games targeting that skill. School’s Out! Summer is here … ready or not! For many families with school-aged children, summer’s easy schedule is a welcome break from those early school mornings: alarm clocks, lunch-making, carpools, homework. But, for families who still crave a bit of a schedule and structure, summer can be somewhat anxiety-producing. Fear not. During the next few months, we’ll be keeping our blog chock-full of ideas for activities you can do with your children to keep them entertained (and continue that positive speech and language therapy momentum your child has made this year).

Here are some suggestions for online games for speech therapy!

Let your child explore these educational and entertaining websites designed to offer preschool and elementary school-aged children opportunities to polish their speech and language skills. These websites are not designed for “vegging “out in front of a screen. Instead, these websites and online speech therapy games offer an interactive opportunity for your children to promote the development of his speech and language skills at home. You will want to supervise your child (at least at first) when logging onto a website, encouraging them to take part in the activities and exercises. Once they are comfortable with the expectations, let your child explore!

Four Favorite Online Games for Speech Therapy

Leona & Theo from PBS Between the Lions

StoryPlace.org  is a terrific website that has a number of online games and interactive activities for preschoolers and elementary-aged students. Each preschool theme includes an online story, online activity, printable “take home” activities and suggestions for parents.  Each theme also offers a book list that corresponds with each particular lesson.

FunwithSpot.com  is an interactive website for preschoolers and young children that includes options to play language-based games related to the Spot Series of books, parent (and teacher) resources, access to information about author Eric Hill and opportunities to purchase products and books about Spot.

PBSkids.org: Between the Lions   You may have seen this television show .  PBS Kids’ Between the Lions website offers many language games and literacy activities for preschool and elementary-aged children. It includes stories both watch and listen to, many vocabulary and phonemic awareness (pre-literacy) activities, video clips from the show and helpful information for parents.

Do2Learn.com is a website that offers various language, speech games and learning activities that address facial expressions, emotions, sequencing, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, songs and rhymes.

What are some of your “go-to” sites for speech therapy games?  For additional games and activities, check out our top 10 favorite sites for language building .

UltimateSLP is a life saver for every busy SLP! I can't believe how many goals I can target. I can target social communication and articulation within the same game. The game graphics are beautiful too. I use these games with my elementary, middle, and high school students.

25+ Best Speech Therapy Games {Online & Board Games}

If you’re looking for the best speech therapy games then you’re in the right place. This blog post has over 25 of my favorite simple games to play in the speech room!

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, these are my favorite games to use during a speech therapy session.

Using games in therapy can be a great way to work on everything from your child’s speech to speech sounds, to social skills.

Language Development

1. apples to apples jr..

Apples to Apples is a classic game for working on vocabulary skills. One student is the judge and picks a green card from the pile. The green cards are adjectives, such as “chewy”, “chilly”, or “round”.

For example, if a student who is the judge picks the green adjective card “chilly” and then the other students hand over their perfect red noun vocabulary cards the judge then picks their favorite red card.

The next player and other students then pick a red noun vocabulary word from their pile of red cards.

The judge will then rotate giving each student a chance to be the judge. The winner of each round gets to keep their green card and whoever has the most green cards at the end wins!

Out of the Box Apples to Apples Junior 9+ 2nd Edition

If you have any articulation students on your caseload, then you might want to check out my Apples to Apples Articulation Game Bundle from my TPT store.

2. Go for the Dough

Do your students love pizza? Enjoy this little game Go for the Dough of delivering pizzas while increasing your student’s needs with vocabulary skills.

Children drive their cars around the game board while delivering pizzas. As they go around the board they choose a Super Dough Dollar. Each Super Dough Dollar has a skill to practice on it.

You can choose one category/skill to work on or you can mix and match different categories to work on. For example, there are synonyms, rhyming words, opposites, categories, multiple meaning, and definitions.

Super Duper Publications | Go for The Dough® Vocabulary Word Meaning Board Game | Educational Learning Resource for Children

3. Granny’s Candies

Granny’s Candies is a perfect game for working on vocabulary! This game comes with 672 word meaning cards to work on multiple semantic goals.

Super Duper Publications | Granny's Candies® Vocabulary Game of Word Meanings | What Belongs, What Doesn't Belong, How are They Alike or Different, What is This Used For, and Give an Action Word | Educational Learning Resource for Children

Picture Cards

Memory , also known as a matching game, is a perfect game to target skills, such as articulation and vocabulary.

This game is also easy to create your own version of and simply print two sets of the words you want your student to work on.

I also, like sending this game home to practice with family members as it is easy to set up and is a quick game to play. Plus there is no game piece that needs to be sent home.

Ravensburger Junior Memory® Game for Kids Ages 3 and Up – A Fun & Fast Picture Matching Game

Classic Game

5. candyland.

Candyland is personally one of my favorite games to use as a speech language pathologist. It is also a very popular game with my school-age children and students.

Not only is it a classic board game (don’t worry I have new games listed below as well) , but you can target so many different skills all in one game.

The possibilities are simply endless making it one of the best board games to play.

Also, when you use it as a form of reinforcement it allows each student to work on their own targets while all playing one game.

Plus did I mention it’s just a fun game in general to play?

In need of a game companion for Candyland? Be sure to check out this free CandyLand Game Companion: “Wh” Questions from Rachel’s Resources.

Young Children – Early Intervention

The best way to get your younger children or elementary students engaged in therapy is to use fun and quick reinforcement games.

These games are also perfect for working on turn-taking skills and fine motor skills.

6. Pop the Pig

Pop the pig is another one of those perfect language games that most speech therapists should have on hand that can be used for so many different goals.

The kiddos roll the dice, feed the pig a hamburger in his mouth, and then pump his head. When you pump his head his belly starts to grow until it eventually pops (side note, this is also a great activity for students who are working on their fine motor skills).

The kids love the suspense of when will the pig…pop!

Goliath Pop The Pig - Bigger & Better - Belly-Busting Fun as You Feed Him Burgers and Watch His Belly Grow, Multi Color

7. Pop the Pirate

Need a game for your younger children?

Pop the Pirate is similar to the game Pop the Pig. Simply have your students take turns putting their colorful swords into the barrel. Then if the pirate pops you’re out.

Kids love the suspense of waiting for the pirate to come flying out of the barrel!

  • This game is also perfect for a student working on /r/ and /r-blends/ to work on articulation words while they play, possible target words are “sword”, “barrel”, “treasure”, “red” “pirate”, “arrrgh”, “green”, “my turn”, “your turn”.

TOMY Pop Up Pirate Game - Provides Plenty of Swashbucklin' Fun on Family Game Night

8. Shark Bite

Shark Bite is a super fun game for little ones!

Have them grab their fishing rod in order to pull out the sea creatures one at a time, but beware if you grab the wrong one the shark will bite!

Pressman Shark Bite with Let's Go Fishin' Card Game (Amazon Exclusive)

9. Don’t Wake Daddy

Don’t Wake Daddy is another fun suspense filled game that is perfect for younger kids and is a great game for reinforcement.

The object of the game is to creep along the board game to the fridge for a midnight snack without waking daddy.

If you land on a space that doesn’t match the pictures and numbers on your card then you have to press the alarm clock and daddy will either sleep through his alarm or suddenly pop up in bed.

Hasbro Gaming Don't Wake Daddy Preschool Game for Kids Ages 3 and Up (Amazon Exclusive)

10. Jumping Jack

Jumping Jack is similar to the game Pop the Pig.

Simply have your students take turns pulling the carrots out of the garden. Then if the rabbit jumps out, you’re out.

Kids love the suspense of waiting for the rabbit to come flying out of the garden!

11. Crocodile Dentist

Crocodile Dentist is a super easy game to step up and is a great game that can be used as a reinforcement game.

Simply open the crocodile’s mouth and take turns being a dentist and pushing down on the crocodile’s teeth.

Just make sure you don’t push down on his sore tooth because he will chomp down on your dentist’s hand and you’ll be out!

Go Fish was a staple in my therapy room. It’s one of those therapy sessions that is quick and easy to set up and most kids already know how to play this standalone game.

Language Therapy

16. guess who.

Guess Who is a great game when it comes to language therapy. Not only is it great for working on expressive language skills but it’s also perfect for working on receptive language skills.

This was one of my most requested board games from the older children on my caseload. They seemed to love the mystery-solving piece of the game. I mean what kid doesn’t want to be a detective when they grow up?

Have your students practice formulating questions, answering yes or no questions, using deductive reasoning and critical thinking to help solve the mystery.

Fun fact – There is also a Disney version of Guess Who along with a Guess Where board game version. However, the Guess Where game seems impossible to find… so I’m not sure about that one, but it does sound perfect for our students answering where questions if you’re able to find one.

17. rory’s story cubes.

If you have students working on story retell or sequencing Rory’s Story Cubes just might be a perfect game for you.

It’s as simple as rolling the cubes and then creating a story based on the images you are given on your cubes.

There are multiple ways to play you can have the first player roll the cubes and create a story all by themselves using all 9 cubes or have students take turns each using some of the cubes.

Either way, you will have a silly story I’m sure!

Wh questions, 18. pickles to penguins.

Pickles to Penguins is one of my favorite card games for speech therapy when working on language goals.

Each player is dealt a set of double-sided vocabulary cards. Then two cards from the draw pile are turned over and the object of the game is to make a connection between two of the cards.

The actual game is done as a race with everyone going at once, but I typically do it with one student at a time and give each student the processing time that they need.

  • Describing or Answering Wh- Questions – They could also describe the picture card that they are using to make a match. For example, answering “What is it made of?”, What size is it?” “Where might you find this object?”, “Who might use this object?”, “What is the object used for?”, etc.

Real Pictures

Blurt is another game that is perfect for working on vocabulary skills.

One player reads the definition or “clue” and then the other students race to blurt out the correct word.

For example, the “clue” might be “What word means a partially dried grape?” Then the first student to blurt out “raisin” wins.

Most Popular Game

22. caribou.

Caribou is a fan favorite!

Sadly, this board game is no longer being made and sold, however, it can be frequently found at Goodwill.

The game is played by finding all the hidden balls. To find the balls the student gets to use the key to open the doors. Keep all the balls on the right-hand side of the game and once you collect all the balls the treasure box opens.

What’s great about this game is that you can even create your own cards making the game target exactly what your students are working on.

Articulation Blocks

I frequently used Jenga for my middle school and high school students, especially for a fun way to practice articulation.

Jenga is also just one of those open-ended games that can be used for many skills.

Articulation

  • For every turn have your student practice their target word 1-3x.
  • If you’re feeling extra motivated you could put tape onto the Jenga pieces and write their target words on the pieces of tape creating articulation blocks.
  • Do you have the colored Jenga set? You could assign each color a different sound and then when they pull out each color they could practice that assigned word for that specific color.

Hasbro Gaming: Jenga Classic Game

Answering Questions

25. hedbanz.

I would consider Hedbanz to be similar to the game Guess Who, however, there are more questions you can ask and more options for the correct answer making it more fun for older children.

  • Formulating Questions – This game is perfect for students who are working on expressively formulating wh-questions. For example, “Am I a type of fruit?”
  • Answering Yes Or No Questions – In addition to formatting great questions to solve the mystery you also have to answer yes or no questions about other people’s cards on their heads. For example, “No, you are not a person”.

Fun Therapy Ideas

26. ned’s head.

During my first year as an SLP in the elementary setting, I inherited some games that had been left in my speech room from the previous SLP and Ned’s Head just happened to be one of those games.

I remember the first time I looked through it to see how I could use it in therapy and thinking, “This game is gross!”, but I quickly came to love it for all of the language targets you could incorporate into it.

It’s one of those super simple games, but a highly engaging game due to the silliness of the game itself.

In Conclusion: Best Speech Therapy Games

I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of different games to work on communication skills and that it brings you and your students a lot of fun this school year from working on vocabulary words to articulation skills to social communication skills.

Cheers to bringing you more fun this year.

P.S. What’s your favorite speech therapy game and how do you use it to work on specific skills in your private practice or in your speech therapy practice? I’d love to add your idea to the list above.

Speech and Language Games Online

Parents ask me to recommend speech and language games online all the time! I can’t honestly say that I LOVE for parents to use apps or online games to teach communication skills. Language is best learned in natural contexts, BUT if parents want to work on skills I have already taught in speech therapy as a review, there are a few things I can recommend.

speech-and-language-games-online

During the COVID quarantine, online games for speech therapy became a hot item! Teaching from my kitchen table, I needed easy to use resources to keep kids engaged for 30 minute sessions. I had used some websites and online games in previous therapy but not many. Parents started asking for speech and language games online to use with their child. I found some that were easy to use and purposeful. I also found others that were not. The goal of the activity needs to be related to their IEP or goals, not to entertain them.

speech-and-language-games-online

“Please Don’t focus on letters, numbers and colors”

When three year olds start speech and all they know are colors, letters and numbers, it provides a false sense of school readiness. It is great that they memorize well! Sadly these memorized skills don’t carry over into functional communication. Unfortunately when you search for preschool language games, these skills are the first to pop up. Parents, teach these skills in the real world by:

  • Finding things in the grocery store that are different colors and model language by saying, “These pickles are green! Pickles taste sour too.”
  • Reading signs in town such as McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Taco Bell and say, “I see the Taco Bell sign! I wonder what kind of food we can buy there?”

The best activities focus on vocabulary, words by group (categories), descriptive words and positional words.

Boom Cards for speech therapy

By far the most popular online games for speech and language in the SLP world are Boom Cards. It is as easy a free account . You can set it up HERE . If your child attends speech therapy, ask the therapist if they already use Boom Cards. If that is the case, they can make a student login and share their decks temporarily with your child.

In the event that your child’s therapist does not use Boom Cards or if you want to check it out for yourself, create a free teacher account, making yourself the “teacher”.

There are MANY free decks (0 points) available on Boom. You can search and sort by price (low to high) to find these.

What’s the best way to use online games?

Interacting with the child while they use the game is the best way to form meaningful connections between the game and communication skills. For example, you can use this free game to work on farm animal names. The adult would say the name of the animal to the child. “Which one is the horse?” The child can choose the answer and tap the correct animal. After the correct answer is chosen, the adult can ask, “What does a horse say?” If the child doesn’t know, model the sounds for the child and encourage them to repeat!

After you play the game, read a book or color a picture with farm animals. Next time you are in the car, play a song with farm animal sounds like this one !

Another farm theme favorite book for my speech room is Rosie’s Walk . You can use this free Boom Card deck to work on positional terms (also found in the book!) . Working on Fall vocabulary? Try this scarecrow themed positional term Boom Deck.

Every week, I send an email with language rich songs, links to read alouds of my favorite books as well as crafts and virtual field trips. Click on the image below to sign up!

Speech sound games online

If you are a parent and your child is working on a specific speech sound, you can find TONS of individual sound activities in my Boom Learning store. I even have a Feed the Farm Animal set for each sound .

speech-and-language-games-online

What else is there?

Here are some other games that can be used for early language skills. The “make” or “build a” games can be used for positional terms, vocabulary, sequencing and more. Don’t forget! In order to make a lasting impact, you need to be actively using the game WITH your child.

  • ABCYA Make a Cake : If the child chooses a color. MODEL LANGUAGE! Say, “Oh! YOU want blue? I would have picked yellow. What should we add to the cake next? Let’s add some strawberries!” See if the child can pick out a picture or topping from a group. Narrate everything!
  • ABCYA Make a Face : Perfect for working on pronouns, part/whole relationships and body parts!
  • ABCYA Make a House: Great for working on vocabulary of the house, part/whole relationships and answering WH questions such as, “Where does the window go?”

The Best Games for Speech Therapy

The Best Games for Speech Therapy – Digital Edition

  • April 5, 2022

Today I’m going to be talking about the best games for speech therapy, specifically digital games that can be used in-person and online. Although I will be recording another episode with more traditional games as well.

Indicators of an Online Game that’s Great for Speech Therapy

When selecting online game that are great for speech therapy, you want to look for games that are ad-free, consistently work with minimal issues or hangs, are on sites with reputable customer service in the case that issues do arise, and colorful and engaging.

Screening the games prior to using them in a speech session is very important to ensure they are appropriate from start to finish. You want to pick a game that either directly targets a skill or can be tailored to target a skill.

Benefits of online speech therapy games:

  • to reduce clutter in the speech room (click  here  to read why science says clutter is bad for your health)
  • to save space in the speech room
  • to be more environmentally conscious
  • to provide cutting edge resources to students
  • to provide engaging resources to students
  • to have a large library of materials that are easily transportable
  • to easily provide teletherapy services

Are online games only for teletherapy?

Definitely not! While online speech therapy materials can be great for teletherapy, they are also a great way to boost student engagement during in-person speech therapy sessions. Digital speech therapy games and resources can easily be pulled up on a tablet or computer. You can have different resources open in different tabs to address different goals. When working with mixed groups, you can also choose activities that address multiple speech and language goals within one resource.

The best online resource is going to be something that highly engaging but non-distractive, as well as easy and enjoyable for the SLP to use. If you’d like to see some online speech therapy games in action, I’ll link to a blog post I did that has some videos of them in use.

Thanks so much for tuning in today! I would love to hear about what some of your favorite online speech therapy games are!

Full Transcript of Podcast: The Best Games for Speech Therapy – Digital Edition

Episode 91: the best games for speech therapy - digital edition.

You're listening to the Speech Space Podcast, a podcast full of tips and resources for SLPs. I'm your host, Jessica Cassity, and this is Episode 91.

Today, I'm going to be talking about using games in speech therapy, specifically digital games that can be used in-person and online. Although I will be recording another episode with more traditional games, if that appeals to you more. So make sure that you check back that will be out in a couple of weeks. Before we get started, I did want to mention that this podcast is brought to you by The Digital SLP membership site, which is a site that features time-saving interactive digital resources that are all teletherapy platform-friendly. You can learn more or sign up by going to thedigitalslp.com/digitalslp. And we are also now offering a free trial, which you can also access at that same web address.

Online speech therapy games can either be directly or indirectly targeting a speech and language skill. So in an in-person setting, or actually even in an online setting, an example of a game that directly addresses speech and language goals would be something like Feed the Monster. And that's where, you know, if you're not familiar, that is generally where you have some sort of target on a card, if you are in-person or digitally on the computer. And that is going to be either put in a character in the Monster's mouth or dragged, if you're using the computer, dragged over into the Monster's mouth and then they eat the target. So that might be /R/ words or minimal pairs, or perhaps, there's a picture and the student has to name the opposite. But the game in itself was generally directly developed to target speech and language skills. Now, an example of a game that indirectly addresses speech and language skills would be something like grabbing two pictures and asking your students to find the difference. Now, I know they actually have apps with this as well, but the reason that this is a little bit more indirect is because the game was not necessarily developed to address speech and language goals. So it can easily be modified though with a little instruction from a skilled SLP. Now, just to be clear when I'm saying direct and indirect, I am specifically referring to the game itself and not the therapeutic approach.

So let's go ahead and talk about indicators of an online game that is great for speech therapy. So you want to look for games that are firstly, ad-free. Those that consistently work without any issues or hangs. And those that are on sites with reputable customer service, just in case issues do arise, because as we all know with technology, it can always be unpredictable. And then lastly, games that are colorful and engaging are generally going to captivate your student's interest more so than those that are not. I personally always suggest screening games prior to using them in a speech session, just to make sure that they're appropriate from start to finish. And in addition to the criteria that I just listed, you of course, wanna choose something that either directly or indirectly addresses the speech and language goals that you're working on. There are many games out there, but there are fewer online speech therapy-specific games. So you wanna pick a game that can target the skill or be tailored to target the skill that your student is working on. Otherwise, the game is just a time-filler and you're not actually addressing speech or language through the use of the game. Now, Digital SLP has a free no-strings attached sampler resource library that you can access without even needing to put in your email address. So I will go ahead and add the link to that in the show notes, so you can access it later.

Now let's talk about benefits of online speech therapy games. First of all, they definitely cut back on the clutter in your speech room. And if you check the show notes, I'll actually link to an article that talks a little bit about why science says clutter is bad for you. Secondly, you know, it's going to save space in your speech room. And if you're working with a small space, we all know how much we appreciate it whenever we don't have to add more things to the piles that we probably already have, or the papers that we already have in our filing cabinets. It's also more environmentally conscious. It provides cutting-edge resources to students. You know, a lot of students are used to technology. It also provides engaging resources. So these are things that more likely a lot of the time to captivate and hold your student's interest. Another benefit is that it gives you a large library of materials that are easily transportable. And then lastly, of course, these games make it really easy to provide teletherapy services. However, I do wanna emphasize that online speech therapy games are not just for teletherapy. They can also be used very effectively in-person as well. So to touch on that point, I often get the question: Are online games only for teletherapy? And like I said, definitely not. While online speech therapy materials can be great for teletherapy, they're also a great way to boost student engagement during in-person speech therapy sessions as well. Many Digital SLP members report that after initially using these resources for teletherapy, they also found them to be extremely helpful for providing open and go in-person sessions that their students were really excited about. Digital speech therapy games and resources can easily be pulled up on a tablet or a computer. You can have different resources opened in different tabs to address different goals. And when working with mixed groups, you can also choose activities that address multiple speech and language goals within one resource.

So in summary, the best on online speech therapy games are going to be those that your students will engage with, those that do not distract your students to the point that they won't participate in an interactive way. So, you know, some games might have too many bells and whistles and actually be a hindrance to performance. So that's something to keep in mind. You wanna make sure it's something that works for your student. And lastly, is something that is easy and enjoyable for the SLP to use because of course that matters as well. You know, if it makes your life easier as an SLP and is also effective for your students, then it's definitely a win. So if you would like to see some online speech therapy games in action, I will link to a blog post that I did that has some videos of them in use.

I will also be sure to add the link to the freebies library that I mentioned earlier in the show. Thank you so much for listening today. I would love to hear about what some of your favorite online speech therapy games are. Now, like I mentioned in beginning of the show, we are now offering a free trial on The Digital SLP site. So if you're looking for a collection of teletherapy platform-friendly resources that are also great for your in-person sessions, and you would like to give Digital SLP a try, or if you'd already know that you'd like to sign up, then head on over to thedigitalslp.com/digitalslp . And to access those show notes from today's episode that I mentioned earlier, please head on over to bit.ly/TSSEP91 . And you can also go to thedigitalslp.com/podcast .

10 Interactive Parts Of Speech Games To Play Online

Most people believe that learning grammar takes a lot of effort and is quite tedious and unvaried. This often happens when concepts of the English language are taught in an old and conventional way. Although they have been indisputably working well for years now, don’t you think that it’s time to transpose?

While some may excel in reading, writing, and grammar, some may look for enticing pedagogies that can make them grasp the notion effortlessly. A game-based approach can be evidently befitting for these individuals, as they also ensure a little fun while learning.

Therefore, in this post, we will talk about how games can make grasping parts of speech entertaining and rewarding.

Online game-based approach- How it aids learning english & parts of speech

The game-based approach has been an enticing choice to grasp academic notions due to certain edges like better critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills. Apart from these edges, parts of speech online games may ensure some additional benefits. Muhammad Rauuf [ 1 ] studied the effect of online game learning for high school students at Arizona.edu. The results indicate that most students viewed the potential utilization and integration of online games as positive.

Here are some noteworthy edges that parts of speech online games can offer:

1. Pragmatic Application of the Regulations

The application of words in reading and writing often obligates the need to retain certain regulations. While all of them are preached in classrooms, assignments, and homework may create monotony. Games-based learning gets handy here by offering learners the latest and enticing ways to apply it pragmatically. In such recreations, players often deal with words and sentences with pictorial representations often facilitating them to link these with real-life entities.

2. Flexibility in learning

Online games can be accessed from phones, tablets, or PCs with active internet connections. As these are often a click away from the learner, they can access at any favorable time. This ensures not only flexibility but also motivation to practice more.

3. Ensures Repetition

While homework and assignments often stipulate the student to write answers on paper, repetition thereby needs additional time and effort. Nonetheless, repetition is facile in online learning games. Once a game is completed, it can be restarted with just a click. Consequently, frequent practice can be secured anywhere.

4. Enhanced Hand-eye coordination

Online games need the player to use their fingers and eyes to comprehend the challenge and act accordingly. Suitably, hand-eye coordination is ensured here, and thereby better cognition and memory.

Ar Rehab [ 2 ] developed a virtual reality game for patients with challenges in finer movement.  The results showed improvement in finger movement and their coordination with the eyes. These inferences can depict how online games can ensure hand-eye coordination.

Ziyu Yang [ 3 ] and the team studied the effect of game-based interactive strategies on young children’s linguistic awareness and engagement. The results showed a significant improvement in the orthographic awareness performance for the group which participated in the hand-eye coordination training.

Cool games for learning parts of speech.

1. dino fishing: adjectives that describe.

 Dino Fishing: Adjectives that Describe

The importance of adjectives in a sentence is often now comprehended by students. Dino Fishing preaches the same by letting them identify the right adjective to complete the sentence. For every question, there are four options in the form of dino fishes.

The player needs to choose the right answer by fishing relevant dinofish. The idea of fishing makes it engaging. Evidently, the game looks forward to strengthening the essential reading and writing by focusing on adjectives.

2. Kid Heroes Verbs

Kid Heroes Verbs

This verbs game is easy and student-friendly that helps them to get desired outcomes of learning the verbs in a fun way. In the game, students can learn the verbs or its combination with nouns. Students have to find a suitable verb from the given list, and after selecting the correct one, they can pick a hero(warrior, archer, or healer) to fight with the monster. These characters make the game exciting and challenging for the students.

They have to drag a character they like and place it on the line to play further. When they defeat the monster, it goes to the next level. With notable visuals, the game manages to golf the interest of the player.

3. Prepositions Game

Prepositions Game

This game aims to help kids in learning prepositions. The game allows them to choose a few settings at the beginning, such as a slow level, review the game, pick the rooms(living room or classroom, and many others). After choosing these settings, you can proceed further by clicking on the start button to begin the game of 9 rounds.

The student has to read the sentence on the screen and drag the matching object to set it in the correct place.

Objects given here are mostly household items that we generally use, making the vocabulary rich. The game mainly focuses on prepositions, and if a student makes a mistake, it gives a hint. The game is suitable for beginners and intermediate students as well. This interactive game allows students to learn prepositions in-depth.

4. Irregular Plural Nouns Match

Irregular Plural Nouns Match

The idea of the game is to match the nouns with their irregular plural forms. The player needs to drag down the right answer, making it a facile game. When they match the list successfully, the next list appears. Stipulating the player towards focusing on each word, plural forms can be identified effectively; thereby, learning plural nouns turns fruitful.

This game offers a unique approach towards the concept of parts of speech, where the student can learn while playing.

5. Parts of Speech Quest 4: Adverb

Parts of Speech Quest 4: Adverb

Adverbs are often used to modify or quantify verbs, and adjectives. To teach the same, this quest game creates an alternative universe where the player can traverse through. The game starts with character selection and then an enticing prologue.

Once upon a time, a terrible dragon attacked the kingdom of Lingua. It stole all the treasures of the king and took them to its lair, where it sealed it in a magical door. Now, only an adverbs master can retrieve the Orb of Adverbs to unlock the door.

Accordingly, the player gets the chance to win the quest. The game starts just like any other dungeon video game, where the player needs to answer adverb-related questions to progress. Apart from the interface, the enticing background score adds to the interest of the player.

6. Monkey Isle Conjunctions

Monkey Isle Conjunctions

The game is all about a monkey stuck on an island. It needs to excavate for food to live. A question related to conjunctions is to be answered by the player to get a banana for the monkey. Choose the right answer among the options provided. Pressing on the choice again will submit it. Every correct answer awards ten points.  As the player gets 150 points, they can move to the next level.

This simple yet intriguing game can be a good take-in for grasping and practising Conjunction lessons. Being a serene game and minimal graphics, this can be a classroom game as well.

7. Space Dog: Subject Object Pronoun

Space Dog: Subject Object Pronoun

The player of this game acts as the savior of a space dog. The game needs the learners to answer pronoun-based questions. Every right answer rewards 10 points out of the player and a life-saving bone to the dog. The student needs to score 140 points to reach the next level of the game.

For every wrong answer, the dog misses its bone, while the player’s score stays intact. Being a light game, it can be accessed comfortably on any device. The game ensures learning pronouns is no longer taxing.

8. Putting Apostrophes in Possessive Nouns

Putting Apostrophes in Possessive Nouns

Possessive nouns, as the name indicates, show the possession of an object to a noun. For instance: Boy’s. After learning about nouns, students may need to know how to employ them in possessive nouns.  Apostrophes make a difference here. Accordingly, this game preaches students to place the apostrophe at the right place in a possessive noun, so that learners can implement them in real life effortlessly.

The game shows a query with a space to fill the possessive noun with the right placement of the apostrophe. Three options are held by three evil monsters, from which one appropriate needs to be selected to move to higher levels. With noteworthy graphics, this game manages to create engagement in young learners.

9. Bango- A game for Plural Nouns

Bango- A game for Plural Nouns

Plural nouns are used to depict multiple nouns at a  time.  There can be broadly three types of plural nouns based on their endings. They can end with ‘s’, ‘es’, ot ‘ies’. Knowing what a plural noun ends with, will ensure a better grip of learning on it. Bango preaches the same.

At a first glance, it looks like a Mario game with a Kangaroo character. The game has a lot of stones with “es, ”s” and ”ies” on them.  When a singular noun appears, the player needs to take the kangaroo to the appropriate rock and punch it to answer and win 10 points.  The attention to detail in this game is noteworthy. Another fascinating feature is that it comes in a keyboard and touch screen version.

10. Parts of Speech Sorting

parts of speech sorting

Once the students have learned about various parts of speech, it may be time to distinguish between them and revise. Parts of the speech sorting game let the players segregate a group of given words into nouns, verbs and adjectives.

The game is set up in a library, where there are a number of books with a word written on each book. Players need to identify the word and put them in the right bowl (adjective, nouns, or verb). This sorting game being simple manages engagement with a large number of words to practise with.

At last, we all want our children to learn the English language efficiently, but if they have a fun learning experience, that’s even better. As we all know, many kids dread the grammar part of the language. They’ll study the main topics and leave other topics as they find them boring.

The point here is to change things, and games can help us change the scenario of that conventional classroom learning. Using these games additionally as an effective learning tool to make students learn the parts of speech is great fun.

Want to make it competitive? The first student to finish typing and saying target words correctly is the winner!

Many different sounds are targeted, including sh, ch, voiced th, voiceless th, r, l, s and z.

Microsoft's latest speech generator is so good it's afraid to release it to the public

VALL-E 2 will remain a research project due to the potential risks of 'misuse'.

Microsoft VALL-E

This thing we made is so brilliant, we can't risk releasing it to the general public. So Microsoft basically says about it's latest speech generator, VALL-E 2. So, does that reflect genuine concerns? Or is it a clever marketing ruse designed to get some viral traction and online chins wagging?

If it is all completely genuine, what does it say about Microsoft that it's knowingly creating AI tools too dangerous to release? It's a conundrum, to be sure.

Anyway, here are the basic facts of the situation. Microsoft says in a recent blog post (via Extremetech ) that it's latest neural codec language model for speech synthesis, known as VALL-E 2, achieves "human parity for the first time".

More specifically, "VALL-E 2 can generate accurate, natural speech in the exact voice of the original speaker, comparable to human performance." Now, to some extent, this is nothing new. However, it's the incredible speed with which VALL-E 2 can achieve this, or to put it another way, the incredibly limited sample or prompt it needs to achieve this feat that's remarkable.

VALL-E 2 can accurately mimic a specific person's voice based on a sample just a few seconds long. It pulls that trick off by using a huge training library that maps variations in pronunciation, intonation, cadence in the model to the sample and spits out what appears to be totally convincing synthesised speech.

Microsoft's blog post has a range of example audio clips demonstrating how well VALL-E 2 (and indeed its predecessor, VALL-E) can turn a short sample of between three and 10 seconds into convincing synthesised speech that's often indistinguishable from a real human voice.

It's a process known as zero-shot text-to-speech synthesis or zero-shot TTS for short. Again, the approach is nothing new, it's the accuracy and shortness of the sample audio that's novel.

VALL-E 2

Of course, the idea of weaponising such tools to create fake content for nefarious purposes is likewise not a new idea. But the VALL-E 2's capabilities do seem to take the threat to a whole new level. Which is why the "Ethics Statement" appended to the blog post makes it clear that Microsoft currently has no intention of releasing VALL-E 2 to the public.

"VALL-E 2 is purely a research project. Currently, we have no plans to incorporate VALL-E 2 into a product or expand access to the public," the statement says, adding that "it may carry potential risks in the misuse of the model, such as spoofing voice identification or impersonating a specific speaker. We conducted the experiments under the assumption that the user agrees to be the target speaker in speech synthesis. If the model is generalized to unseen speakers in the real world, it should include a protocol to ensure that the speaker approves the use of their voice and a synthesized speech detection model."

Microsoft expressed similar concerns regarding its VASA-1, which can turn a still image of a person into convincing motion video . "It is not intended to create content that is used to mislead or deceive. However, like other related content generation techniques, it could still potentially be misused for impersonating humans," Microsoft said of VASA-1.

Nvidia RTX 4070 and RTX 3080 Founders Edition graphics cards

Best CPU for gaming : The top chips from Intel and AMD. Best gaming motherboard : The right boards. Best graphics card : Your perfect pixel-pusher awaits. Best SSD for gaming : Get into the game ahead of the rest.

An obvious observation, perhaps, is that the problems that come with such models aren't exactly a surprise. You don't have to succeed in making the perfect speech synthesis model to imagine what might go wrong if such a tool was released to the public.

So, it's easy enough to see the problem coming, but Microsoft pressed ahead anyway. Now it claims to have achieved its aims, only to decide it's not fit for public consumption.

It does rather beg the question of what other tools it is developing that it much know in advance are too problematic for general release. And then you inevitably wonder what Microsoft's aim is in all this.

There's also the inevitable genie-and-bottle conundrum. Microsoft has made this tool and it's hard to imagine how it or something very similar doesn't eventually end up out in the wild. In short, the ethics of it all are rather confusing. Where it all ends is still anyone's guess.

Neverwinter adventures to familiar lands with mountain of flame, adventures new and old .

The volcano rumbles once more. Heroes of the Swordcoast new and old must band together to face the evils that once again lurk in Mount Hotenow. Today, Arc Games and Cryptic Studios are excited to announce the release of the latest module for their MMORPG, Neverwinter. The new module, titled Mountain of Flame, is introducing a whole host of content to the game. Importantly, the module reintroduces the Mount Hotenow Adventure Zone. In fact, this zone was originally brought to the game upon its release in 2013. Now, it returns to Neverwinter alongside a great deal of other content.

Neverwinter Mountain of Flame

Importantly, the Mountain of Flame Module ensures Neverwinter players will have many challenges to face. For instance, the module reintroduces a classic dungeon, “The Lair of the Mad Dragon”, in a reimagined way. Of course, the dungeon will include its namesake, the twisted dragon Chartilifax. Yet, much of the dungeon is different. Perhaps most importantly, a complete rework of monsters and bosses. However, the dungeon is simply one addition to coming with the module. Both new and old players will experience a whole new Mount Hotenow zone. Importantly, a visual and gameplay update ensures that the zone feels completely new.
