Turn your presentation into a video

When you make a recording of a presentation, all its elements (narration, animation, pointer movements, timings, and so on) are saved in the presentation itself. In essence, the presentation becomes a video that your audience can watch in PowerPoint.

So you have two options for turning your presentation into a video that's ready to view:

Save/export your presentation to a video file format (.mp4 or .wmv).

Save your presentation as a PowerPoint Show (.ppsx) file. (A PowerPoint Show appears full-screen in Slide Show, ready to view immediately.)

Save as a video file

After you've created your slides and recorded any timing and narrations and laser pointer gestures that you want to include, you're ready to create a video file.

On the File menu, select Save to ensure all your recent work has been saved in PowerPoint presentation format (.pptx).

Select  File > Export > Create a Video . (Or, on the Recording tab of the ribbon, select  Export to Video .)

In the first drop-down box under the Create a Video heading, select the video quality you want, which pertains to the resolution of the finished video. The higher the video quality, the larger the file size. (You may want to test them to determine which one meets your needs.)

* The Ultra HD (4K) option is only available if you're using Windows 10 or later.

The second drop-down box under the Create a Video heading tells whether your presentation includes narration and timings. (You may switch this setting if you like.)

If you haven't recorded timed narration, by default the value is Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narrations .

The default time spent on each slide is 5 seconds. You can change that timing in the Seconds to spend on each slide box. To the right of the box, select the up arrow to increase the duration, or select the down arrow to decrease the duration.

If you have recorded a timed narration, by default the value is Use Recorded Timings and Narrations .

Select  Create Video .

In the File name box, enter a file name for the video, browse for the folder that will contain this file, and then select  Save .

In the Save as type box, choose either MPEG-4 Video or Windows Media Video .

You can track the progress of the video creation by looking at the status bar at the bottom of your screen. The video creation process can take up to several hours depending on the length of the video and the complexity of the presentation.

Tip:    For a long video, you can set it up to be created overnight. That way, it’ll be ready for you the following morning.

To play your newly-created video, go to the designated folder location, and then double-click the file.

Save as a PowerPoint Show

When someone opens a PowerPoint Show file, it appears full-screen in Slide Show, rather than in edit mode. The viewer begins watching the presentation immediately.

On the File menu, select Save As .

Choose the folder location where you want to store your PowerPoint Show file.

In the Save as type box, choose PowerPoint Show (*.ppsx) .

Select Save .

Why turn your presentation into a video?

When you want to give a high-fidelity version of your presentation to colleagues or customers (either as an e-mail attachment, published to the web, on a CD or DVD), save it and let it play as a video.

You can save your presentation as either an MPEG-4 video file (.mp4) or a .wmv file. Both formats are widely supported and can be streamed over the internet.

Some tips to remember when recording your presentation as a video:

You can record and time voice narration and laser pointer movements in your video.

You can control the size of the multimedia file and the quality of your video.

You can include animations and transitions in your movie.

Viewers do not need to have PowerPoint installed on their computers to watch it.

If your presentation contains an embedded video, the video will play correctly without your needing to control it.

Depending on the content of your presentation, creating a video may take some time. Lengthy presentations and presentations with animations, transitions, and media content will likely take longer to create. Fortunately, you can continue to use PowerPoint while the video is being created

What parts of a presentation won't be included in a video?

The following items won't be included in a video that you create using PowerPoint:

Media inserted in previous versions of PowerPoint. To include these, you can convert or upgrade the media object.

For example, if you inserted the media using PowerPoint 2007, it will be linked and it will play in the presentation.  However, when you export the file as a video, the linked media will be dropped.  You can convert the file to the new file format (select the File tab, and under Info , select  Convert ), or you can right-click the media object and then select it to upgrade; it will embed the file and export it correctly.

QuickTime media (unless you have a third-party QuickTime codec named ffdShow installed and you have optimized for compatibility)

OLE/ActiveX controls

What to do with your video after creating it

After you create a video, you can share it with others by using the following methods:

Email your presentation to others

Save to a file share or other location

Upload it to your organization's Microsoft Stream video-sharing site , as described in the next section, "Save to a video-sharing site."

Save to the Microsoft video-sharing site

After you've created the video file, you can upload it to a video-sharing site. Microsoft Stream is an enterprise video service where people in an organization can upload, view, and share videos. Microsoft 365 business or education subscribers have access to this service from within PowerPoint for Microsoft 365. 

Select File > Export , and then select Publish to Microsoft Stream .

Type a title and a description for the video.

Set other options, including whether you want others in your organization to have permission to see the video:

Select the Publish button.

The upload process can take several minutes, depending on the length of the video. A status bar at the bottom of the PowerPoint window tracks the progress, and PowerPoint shows a message when the upload is finished:

Select the message to go directly to the video playback page on Microsoft Stream.

Netflix is one of the biggest streamers worldwide, containing content from all regions. It also features a lengthy list of K-dramas and has even become an exclusive streamer for many Korean shows and movies. Meanwhile, Rakuten Viki is another website that is exclusively popular for Asian shows, dramas, and movies. Almost all the popular and semi-popular K content is available on this platform.

It includes almost all Korean series and movies, especially those that are not available on big streaming platforms. One of the latest highly famous K-dramas on Viki was Lovely Runner, starring Byeon Woo-Seok and Kim Hye-Yoon.

It also aired Wi Ha-Joon and Jung Ryeo-Won’s The Midnight Romance in Hagwon. Furthermore, the streamer contains some of the critically acclaimed Korean BL (Boys Love) dramas as well.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is another streamer that contains good Korean shows. It includes some of the classic shows, such as W: Two Worlds Apart, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo.

This year, the streaming platform released Marry My Husband at the beginning of the year. The Park Min-Young revenge series became a super hit worldwide. It also featured Death’s Game and Concrete Utopia (movie), which viewers enjoyed. Like the websites above, Amazon Prime Video also provides English subtitles for subscribers.

Meanwhile, other websites where you can watch K-dramas include Hulu, HiTV, Viu, iQIYI, and Dramacool. Most of these websites/streamers also have their app versions for mobile users. So, enjoy all kinds of Korean dramas online with English subtitles.

Republican National Convention releases official events schedule for delegates and guests

The 2024 Republican National Convention , the event Milwaukee has been preparing for since December 2022, is now just a week away.

The convention is closed to all but delegates, politicians, media members and volunteers. The convention has now released the detailed schedule of events for these participants. Many events are closed to the media, though some are open to media and registered members of the public. Events run from Sunday, July 14, to Thursday, July 18; the convention takes place Monday through Thursday.

Events kick off Sunday evening with the invite-only "Red, White and Brew" party  at the Henry Maier Festival Park. Throughout the week, guests are invited to attend official sessions at the convention venues; affinity group receptions; lectures and presentations from groups like Moms for Liberty , the American Jewish Committee and the European Union; and film screenings of "Reagan," "Theocracy of Terror: Murder, Oppression & the Rise of Iran's Political Regime" and "Trump's Rescue Mission: Saving America."

Events will go late into the night with parties hosted by Red, White and Blue Bar, state delegations, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, the Black Conservative Federation and more.

The official convention watch party takes place each day at the Drink Wisconsinbly Pub, 320 W. Highland Avenue, across from Fiserv Forum .

Many events require tickets or registration; be sure to consult the master calendar for information on how to register.

What to watch this weekend.

It’s the weekend at last—well, almost the weekend at last—and that means another friendly neighborhood streaming guide from yours truly, your humblest of narrators, me! I sift through everything new on all your favorite streaming services each week and put together this guide to help you know what’s out there and what I think is worth watching.

That’s the spin on this guide. I don’t just tell you everything new—there’s a lot of garbage out there—I only tell you what I think is worth checking out, whether I’ve seen it or whether it’s piqued my curiosity or sometimes just because it’s very popular or very weird and different. I try to give you a good selection, with something for everyone. I also include some theatrical releases, since I love going to the movies and want the movie theater industry to survive. We can’t stream everything!

New Shows And Movies

The Best Gaming Mouse That’ll Improve Your Aim

Cobra kai season 6, part 1 (netflix).

The first part of Cobra Kai Season 6 is out on Netflix now, and I’ve actually already penned a review . I found it an enjoyable return to the show after quite a long break, though I have mixed feelings about some of the story choices. I suppose I won’t be able to really form a complete opinion until Parts 2 and 3 are out ( see the release schedule here ). If you haven’t watched the sequel series to The Karate Kid yet, I highly recommend it, even if it does get pretty cheesy and melodramatic at times. It’s also charming and funny and has some great karate fights

Those About To Die (Peacock)

I just watched Gladiator for the first time in many years and was once again blown away. What a fantastic piece of historical fiction! Somehow, I’m only just finding out about Those About To Die, a new gladiator TV show streaming on Peacock. It stars Anthony Hopkins, Jojo Macari and Game Of Thrones alum, Iwan Rheon, who played the execrable Ramsay Bolton on that show. Unfortunately, it’s getting pretty bad reviews from critics and audiences, who blame bad writing, bad acting and bad CGI along with bad direction and a flimsy story. Another option if you’re wanting some ancient Rome goodness: HBO’s Rome. What a gem!

Lady In The Lake (Apple TV+)

Alas, this is not the story of the mysterious “moistened bint” from Arthurian legend (that’s a Monty Python and the Holy Grail line, by the way). This Lady in the Lake stars Natalie Portman and is about a housewife that becomes a private investigator and begins looking into some murders. I suppose Apple needs something to fill the slot taken by Presumed Innocent as that show is almost at an end.

My Spy: The Eternal City (Prime Video)

I like spy movies and I like Dave Bautista and I like Chloe Coleman who I recognize from the excellent Dungeons & Dragons movie. But My Spy got absolutely awful reviews from both critics and audiences and I admit I just skipped it. I guess the movie did well enough to snag a sequel, however. Eternal City is actually doing even worse on Rotten Tomatoes (15% with critics, 38% with audiences) which is a shame because the trailer is fun. And maybe this is a fun movie that’s worth watching despite the reviews. Either way, it’s out now on Prime Video.

The Commandant’s Shadow (Max)

A documentary from Daniela Völker that follows Hans Jürgen Höss, the 87-year-old son of Rudolf Höss, the Camp Commandant of the Nazi death camp, Auschwitz. The life of Commandant Höss and his family was recently fictionalized in The Zone Of Interest, a film I keep meaning to watch but keep flinching away from, as the subject matter is so very, very dark. This documentary looks absolutely fascinating. It might actually be interesting to watch the fictional film first, then this one to gain a deeper perspective. I am also gearing up to rewatch Schindler’s List after close to two decades. It remains perhaps the greatest film of all time, but it’s just so unbearably heartbreaking.

Love Lies Bleeding (Max)

Kristen Stewart takes on a much more interesting role than many in her past in this crime drama that also stars Ed Harris with his best-ever hairdo. Set in the late 80s, the trailer actually looks pretty damn good. It’s scoring super high on RT with 93% from critics and 85% from audiences, with a marvelous sub-two-hour runtime. Now that it’s out on Max I can finally watch it and possibly write up a review.

Thelma (Video On Demand)

Out now to rent or buy, Thelma is the story of an elderly woman out to get what’s hers after being conned. It looks fantastic but I didn’t catch it in theaters.

Abigail (Video On Demand)

I won’t spoil the plot of this horror-comedy, and don’t watch the trailer if you don’t want the main premise of the film spoiled. I will say it’s fun to have both my VOD entries this week share one thing in common: They’re both named after their main characters, and both names are prety . Thelma and Abigail.

Twisters (In Theaters)

Glen Powell is a hot commodity right now after the success of Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man (though I cannot for the life of me understand why people liked that one— I did not ). I was a little skeptical of a rebooted Twister. I thoroughly enjoyed the 1996 film, but this one is actually doing better with critics and significantly better with audiences than the original, so that’s good. Looks like it should be fun on the big screen.

A Quiet Place: Day One (In Theaters)

This one’s been out in theaters for awhile now, but I just went and saw it for myself earlier this week and thought it was terrific. Maybe not as good as the first two, but a great new story in the same universe. You can’t beat the first A Quiet Place, but this film doesn’t try to one-up it or anything. It just tells the story of the first day of the alien invasion and picks a new setting—New York City—and new characters. Read my review here.

Ongoing Shows

Here are some of the shows currently airing (or that have just ended) that I’m watching and/or writing about.

House of the Dragon Season 2 — Sundays on HBO/Max

I love House of the Dragon and I’m seriously impressed with how top-notch Season 2 has been. The big dragon battle a couple episodes ago was epic. But even the most recent episode, which was mostly just characters talking with one another, was pretty phenomenal ( and I’m pretty happy with how my review turned out as well ). Miraculously, the quality of this series has almost completely erased the bad taste left by the end of Game Of Thrones.

The Acolyte — Tuesdays on Disney+

I have the opposite opinion of Disney’s latest Star Wars series, The Acolyte. What a total and absolute disaster this show has been—and what potential it had to be something great. The series is over now, with no word yet on a potential second season (Disney would have announced this already if the company had faith in the show, but it still could get a renewal). The Boys Season 4 — Thursdays on Prime Video

The fourth season of The Boys also came to an end this week with a really strong finale that makes me very excited to see Season 5. But this was after a deeply mixed season that made all kinds of mistakes and really tread water for most of its 8 episodes. Hopefully the fifth and final season goes out with a bang and not a whimper. And hopefully we don’t have any more “ hilarious ” sexual assault episodes.

Presumed Innocent — Fridays on Apple TV+

I really need to write a review of Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent based on the book by Scott Turow. It’s so good! The acting, the writing, the direction, the mystery—it’s like a good page-turner. I can’t put it down. If Apple had released all 8 episodes at once I would have binged them in a heartbeat. As it stands, it’s fun to have to wait each week to see what happens. The second-to-last episode streams this weekend on Apple, with one more to come next Friday. Can’t wait!

The Responder — Thursdays on Britbox

I’m actually making my way through Season 1 of Britbox’s The Responder which stars Martin Freeman as a bent copper who finds himself mixed up in some shady business. It’s really good so far and Season 2 is now airing, so I’m planning on catching up and possibly doing some episodic reviews, or maybe just a review of each season. I definitely recommend this one if you haven’t seen it yet, especially if you’re like me and have a huge soft spot for all things British mystery and cop drama. Freeman is excellent as usual.

I have some other stuff I really need to get into like the new Apple series Sunny, as well as Exploding Kittens on Netflix and so many others it’s almost impossible to keep up!

The film centers on the life of JD Vance. According to Netflix , "An urgent phone call pulls a Yale Law student back to his Ohio hometown, where he reflects on three generations of family history and his own future." The movie is rated R and directed by Ron Howard.

Vance, who grew up in Jackson, Kentucky, and Middletown, Ohio, achieved national attention, and the book became so popular that it was later adapted into a film in 2020 featuring award-winning actors Glenn Close and Amy Adams.

Since his nomination, "Hillbilly Elegy" has climbed to the top two spots on Amazon's bestsellers list (hard cover and paperback), with at least 1.6 million copies sold, according to ABC News .

The film adaptation of "Hillbilly Elegy" has also seen a resurgence on Netflix, where it landed on the streaming service's 'Top 10 in the US' category. Viewership for the movie increased more than 1000% after Trump tapped Vance as the VP pick, with at least 164,000, views according to data from Luminate, Variety reports.

‘Oddity’ Review: Twisted Sister

Coolly executed and seductively simple, “Oddity,” the second feature from Damian McCarthy ( after the unsettling, underseen “Caveat” in 2021 ), is a fun, back-to-basics supernatural thriller that cares more about making us jump than making us cringe.

To that end, most of the violence remains offscreen, leaving us to ponder its bloody aftermath. Set largely inside a rambling, barely habitable house in the Irish countryside, the movie opens with a terrifying encounter between Dani (Carolyn Bracken) and a crazed visitor (Tadhg Murphy) who claims to have seen someone enter her home. Disturbed by the man’s agitation and milky glass eye, and unable to reach her husband, Ted (Gwilym Lee), a doctor working the night shift at a nearby psychiatric hospital, Dani hesitates. Fatally.

One year later, Ted and his new girlfriend (Caroline Menton) are dismayed by the arrival of Dani’s blind twin sister, Darcy (also played by Bracken), a psychic who owns a curio shop in the city. Darcy plans to unearth the truth about her sister’s death, and she has brought a companion: a hideous, life-size wooden figure with a gaping mouth and a head full of holes. This might be viewed by some as a metaphor for the plot; but for “Oddity,” economical to a fault, entertainment trumps enlightenment.

Joining a thriving cohort of Irish filmmakers working in horror or on its fringes, McCarthy has a cheeky sense of humor and a clear love for genre traditions. Colm Hogan’s photography is clean and calm, his God’s-eye shots rich with icy foreboding, while Aza Hand’s sound design is lush and at times almost bestial. These ensure an atmosphere that’s rarely less than creepy and occasionally jolting, helping us forgive the underwritten characters and vague jiggery-pokery. How can you chastise a movie that so clearly wants to leave you smiling?

Oddity Rated R for a mashed head and chewed tootsies. Running time: 1 hour 38 minutes. In theaters.
