My Mother, My Superhero Essay Example

Superman is one of the biggest superheroes around on television however there are more superheroes than you see on fantasy shows. A lot of people in my life could be my superhero but a superhero who doesn't get appreciated enough is my mother. My mom is a stay-at-home mom, but that does not mean she has time to sleep in, relax, or have a lazy day. My mom takes care of my disabled grandma, cleans the house, babysits 4 dogs and a one-year-old, and on top of that still has time to cook dinner and hang out with family. We need to appreciate our legal guardians and what they do for us. 

First off, my mom takes care of my disabled grandma all day. My mom decided to take care of my grandma because she needs someone's full attention all day. My grandma is paralyzed from the chest down and can barely move her arms. My mom has to bathe, feed, and hydrate my grandma. It is a full-time job.

Secondly, My mom cleans the house every day, my mom has to watch my two dogs and my sister's two dogs every day, when the pups go outside,, they can track in all kinds of bugs, dirt, and mud. My mom is a clean freak and loves everything to be clean and smelling good and not like dogs. She makes sure that we can come home to a clean neat house so when we come home she doesn't have to worry about the mess. She likes doing this so we can have her full attention when we get home.

Lastly, My mom babysits a one-year-old. Even though my mother volunteered to look after him it's still a rough full-time job. Everyone knows that toddlers can be restless and wild, but they can also be fussy and grumpy. It always depends on the day. It's kinda like how your parents used to tell you it's like a box of chocolate you never know what you're gonna get. That's how it's kinda like with toddlers you never know what mood you're gonna get. However, she also has to clean the house and take care of my grandma so babysitting can be even harder for her.

However, if my mom was not in my life I have no idea what I would do. My mom is my number one supporter in everything, if it's sports, baking, singing, working out, it could be anything and she would always be there for me. Whenever I fall in a deep spot my mom is always there to help me get through it. If my mom passed away I would probably slowly start fading away from everyone. I know for sure that I would never be myself again and fall into a depressed state. I would think about my mom every night and cry myself to sleep, if my mom wasn't here I would never get out of that depressive state. 

In conclusion, My mom is my favorite and the best superhero around. She never gets a break and is always on her feet. Whether it is softball practice, track practice, a quick Starbucks run, she's always providing me with stuff and I love that. Writing this essay has made me realize that when she nags me she's just wanting the best for me. My mom is my number one fan and I love her so much. What makes a hero? A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for their bravery, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. There are many people in our lives that we consider role models or "heroes". My mother is my hero because she not only takes care of her family but also takes care of strangers, doesn't hesitate to help those in need, and can face difficult challenges and always finds a way out like the hero "Odysseus" in Homer's story.

Like many heroes known today, usually we hear about them helping or saving others from difficult situations. Not only does my mom care for her family, but she also cares for people that she doesn’t know. My mother has done many things to help the community like picking up trash, has given food to the homeless, and she even gives out workout lessons. Like the goddess “Athena” my mother is also very intelligent and wise. She has given me plenty of advice on my life situations that I've had a hard time sorting through.

As seen in comic books and movies, when a citizen is in trouble the hero never hesitates to swoop down to save them. Many times my mom has helped people without thinking the whole situation through. The way she thinks is she needs to think and act fast. Even when things don't go as planned, she still thinks about how much more she benefited that person from when they started.

Lastly, like in “Odysseus”, he goes through many difficult obstacles that takes him off track a bit. But in the end he finds a solution or a way out of every problem and eventually gets back home.  From time to time my mom can go through something but still have a smile on her face and figure out a solution. She’s never been the type of person to let people see when she’s at her weakest. She analyzes the problem and tries her best to solve it.

In conclusion, heroes are people who influence others or do brave actions to help others. The hero can be anyone, be it a family member or a close friend. My mother is my hero because of her brave actions and the fact that she can face many difficult challenges while finding her way. There are role models in your life that can help you improve your behavior.

A mother, in many ways is the most sacrificing person anyone can think of.

For most of us, she is our first hero and we realise this only over the years as we see more of life and are mature enough to understand what she really means to us.

For me, my mother is my hero.

She has played an important role in shaping me as a person through her thoughts and her teachings. My biggest learning from her is one that stands me in good stead even now – no matter how worse the situation, be positive.

Looking at her journey - as a woman and a mother has been a revelation – of the challenges, women, especially mothers face in society. And not to forget, her boundless love for her children.

My mother’s is one such story. When her father passed away, life changed overnight. She was just 10 years and till then used to all the comforts in life.

With the sole breadwinner of the family passing away, life became difficult. My grandma, with no siblings for support, had a tough time running the family (kids and parents) on my grandfather’s pension, which was the only source of income.

She was able to send my mother to school and college but with great difficulty. Nevertheless, she took up arts and excelled in it, completing her MA and Bed, and taking up teaching as a profession.

No matter the situation, she approached it with positivity and made the best of it.

And today, on Mother’s Day I am both happy and proud to share her story.  

Courage in the face of all storms

My mother was married to her cousin and started married life in a joint family whose intent was to trouble her from the beginning. She did all the household chores but her in-laws continued to trouble her. Even during her first pregnancy, she slogged relentlessly and no one asked after her well-being.

Brainwashed by his family, my father though a gentleman didn’t really support her.

Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore moved out of the house. When it came to her dignity as a woman, she drew the line.

Soon after, my father moved abroad for work and my mother took up a job in a government school in the outskirts of Bengaluru.

With my mother- my superhero.

My grandmother and other relatives tried their best to convince her not to leave, but her decision was firm, she wanted a stable future for her children.

I am sure it must not have been an easy move for her with two small children and no support system. When I think of what she must have endured, it still gives me the goosebumps.

The protective shield

Like the Avengers run towards oncoming challenges, so do mothers.  It is so amazing to know how fearless a mother can be when it comes to protecting their kids. I clearly remember how a family friend was sharing a meal with us when one of the lights burst and the room was engulfed in smoke. The family friend dropped his plate and ran out of the room leaving me and my siblings and cousins who had gathered for my birthday meal.

We called out to my mother in panic.  She calmed us, turned off the mains, and called up the owner to fix the issue.

Embodiment of sacrifice

When I think of my mother, one quality that immediately comes to mind is sacrifice. She doesn’t think twice when it comes to her kids. I have heard her say she would not let anyone degrade or point fingers at her kids and she would protect them at all costs.

At this point in my life, when I am getting married soon I want to convey to my mother how important she is to me and how much I love her. When I become a parent, I would like to be like her.

I wish my mother and all mothers out there a very Happy Mother’s Day. You make our world truly beautiful.

My Mother has constantly supported me throughout my entire Life, whenever I am in a danger or in a situation where I am stuck, she has always been there for me, protected me, and guided me. She has been my favorite teacher who has taught me about Life and the beauty of it. She is the essence of truthfulness, sincerity, and lots of love. The only person who holds our family together is my Mother. She cares for everyone in the house and for the ones in need outside the house as well. Mothers have never-ending qualities even though they do not get much credit for their goodness and hard work. She binds everyone in the family and plays a very important part in everyone’s Life. Even when I do something wrong in Life, she scolds me but at the same time, she makes me understand and helps me to get out of the situation. My mother knows me in and out. Even if I am lying she catches me immediately and I start feeling guilty. We should never lie to our parents and especially, to our mother. We can easily share our secrets with our mothers without any worries. Our mother is the one who is always by our side. During sickness too, it is their mother that children want to be around. Mothers ensure that their children are given the right kind of care and medication, such that they recover from all sorts of illnesses at the soonest.

As a youngster, I was prone to find myself in situations which would eventually get me into trouble. These would generally involve getting injured, and the severity of those injuries would vary from manageable to being hospitalised.

There was an instance where while cycling fast I took the turn towards my house a little later than I should have. This resulted in my handle bar hitting the gate. Due to the speed I was riding at, the momentum pulled me off my seat and I flew a good few meters before making contact with the pavement face first. To say I was scraped all over would be an understatement. My father was the only one to witness this event and rushed to my aid. My father is a man of strong will, but seeing his 10-year-old son sprawled across the road sent him into a panic I have never seen.

My mother arrived 15 mins later to find my father with his head in his hands and me sobbing as I lay in bed in excruciating pain. It took my mother a fraction of a second to find her composure and get to mending my wounds. All the while she was working on me she was whispering encouragement to me and consoling my father too.

This was the moment when I first realised that my family is held together because of the strength and composure that my mother radiates. I was healed within no time and back to my cycling shenanigans, all because of the healing power of my mom.

It’s an honor any mom would enjoy this Mother’s Day, being named one of San Diego ’s “50 Best Moms.” Students throughout San Diego were encouraged to write an essay about their mom for the 8th annual contest put on by Time Warner Cable . Many of the finalists have inspiring stories, including one mother who has Cerebral Palsy.  “My mom is my ‘Super Mom’ because she taught me the greatest lesson in life, that is, when life seems like it’s not worth living, never give up, no matter how hard or how rough it is, it will always get better. My mom was born with Cerebral Palsy,” Good Shepherd Catholic School 8th grader Landon Cole Akiyama said. The 50 winning essay writers and their Moms were treated to brunch Saturday at the Hyatt La Jolla at Aventine.  Each of the recognized moms received an engraved award as well as gifts from the event’s sponsors. Top prizes were awarded for each school-aged category.  The winners included: Olivia DeRoche, a 4th grader at Sage Canyon Elementary School; Evan Rider , a 6th grader at Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School; and Jesse Vargas , an 11TH grader at Santana High School. The essays were evaluated by journalists, politicians and teachers; including NBC talent Jodi Kodesh . Students who claimed the top prize received a new Sony VAIO laptop computer. The teachers of those students were awarded a $250 gift certificate for classroom supplies and a $50 gift certificate to Anthony’s Fish Grotto. To the introvert mom who’s overwhelmed and tapped out

If you’re an introvert mom who feels maxed out, who feels out of place and overwhelmed by the physical demands of parenting, you aren’t alone.

I didn’t even know I was an introvert mom until about 10 years ago. As a mom, I just knew that I needed more physical space than other moms seemed to need. I needed more time alone , more time away from my baby, more time away from everyone. For the longest time, I felt like something was wrong with me. Why didn’t I want to hold my baby for hours on end? Why did the chaos and noise make me feel so jittery? 

I must not be a good mom , I thought.  Maybe I’m not maternal, whatever the heck that means.

I spent a lot of time ashamed that I needed time away from my baby. I was embarrassed that I couldn’t tolerate co-sleeping with my baby or toddler. And I felt lonely, because despite the need for personal space, I also desperately craved connection. 

Once I realized there wasn’t anything wrong with me—I was just an introvert who needed more time alone and personal space to recharge—it was like a weight had been lifted. I no longer felt ashamed at what didn’t come natural to me and leaned into what did come natural to me as a parent. I relished quiet activities with my kids, like reading books and coloring together. I listened to my own needs more. And I set boundaries and taught others to respect them.

Now that my kids are older—teen and almost-teen—I have realized just how challenging it can be to be an introvert mom with young children. But it does get easier. If you’re an introvert mom who feels maxed out, who feels out of place and overwhelmed by the physical demands of parenting, you aren’t alone.

I know what it’s like to love watching your kids play, but not wanting to join in. You love watching their gleeful squeals when they play “tickle monster” or wrestle, but you observe from a distance because engaging would be sensory overload.

I know what it’s like to feel lonely and left out sometimes . You want to be invited to moms’ nights out and other social gatherings, but you often decline because you need quiet time at home more.

I know what it’s like to enjoy playdates and social outings until that moment when a switch is flipped and you just can’t socialize another minute, when you need to go home,  stat . 

I know what it’s like to feel burned out and touched out , to struggle to find the emotional energy to parent your child, especially when you have an energetic, extrovert child.

I know what it’s like to have the chaos and unpredictability of parenting make you feel anxious and angry—followed immediately by guilt for feeling this way.

I know what it’s like to love our kids with all your heart and soul, and to also need a break from them, to look forward to a time when they need you just a little less.

I know what it’s like to want friends—true friends—but to feel strange and awkward because small talk is exhausting and you turn into the proverbial pumpkin after too much time in social gatherings. 

I know what it’s like to hang on to nap time (and later “quiet time”), not because your kids need the nap but because you need an hour or two break from the constant noice and activity. 

I know what it’s like to be unable to carry on a conversation by the end of the day because even the sound of your own voice makes you cringe.

I know what it’s like to love your kids with all your heart and soul, and to also need a break from them, to look forward to a time when they need you just a little less.

I know what it’s like to worry that you are somehow lacking as a mom because you feel these things. And I also know the deep sense of relief you feel when you realize that there’s nothing wrong with you at all. You are an introvert, as simple and complicated as that.

The struggle of the introvert mom is real—especially when raising young kids—but you aren’t alone.

The youngest daughter of celebrated Canadian author Alice Munro has opened up about the sexual abuse she experienced by her stepfather and the deep hurt she felt when her mother chose to support her husband instead of her child.

In a first-person essay published in the Toronto Star on Sunday, Andrea Robin Skinner described how the Nobel Prize-winning short story writer remained in her marriage to second husband Gerald Fremlin even after she learned of the abuse.

In the Star piece, Skinner said she opted to tell her story so Canadians could have a more nuanced picture of the Nobel Laureate, who was revered as a literary icon long before her death in May.

"I ... wanted this story — my story — to become part of the stories people tell about my mother," she wrote. "I never wanted to see another interview, biography or event that didn't wrestle with the reality of what had happened to me and with the fact that my mother, confronted with the truth of what had happened, chose to stay with and protect my abuser."

Skinner wrote in the Star that the abuse began in 1976 when she was nine and visiting her mother in Ontario for the summer after she spent most of the year in British Columbia with her father. She wrote that Fremlin climbed into the bed where she was sleeping and initiated sexual contact while Munro was out of the house.

On the final day of her visit, she said Fremlin began asking for details about her sex life and sharing aspects of his own while driving her to the airport.

Skinner said she initially told her father and stepbrother what had happened, but neither she nor her father informed Munro right away.

She said Fremlin continued to expose himself to her and proposition her for sex until he lost interest when she reached her teens.

Skinner said she experienced "private pain" for many years due to Fremlin's predatory behaviour, suffering from bulimia, insomnia and migraines, and dropping out of an international development program at the University of Toronto.

Daughter says she received no sympathy from Munro

In her 20s, Skinner wrote Munro a letter detailing Fremlin's abuse, but she said she received no sympathy from her mother.

"I ... was overwhelmed by her sense of injury to herself," Skinner wrote in the Star. "She believed my father had made us keep the secret in order to humiliate her. She then told me about other children Fremlin had 'friendships' with, emphasizing her own sense that she, personally, had been betrayed. Did she realize she was speaking to a victim and that I was her child? If she did, I couldn't feel it."

She reported the abuse to police in 2005 and Fremlin ultimately pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault.

But, Munro remained with Fremlin until he died in 2013. Munro said she had been "told too late" about the abuse, that she loved him too much to leave him and that she couldn't be expected to "deny her own needs," Skinner wrote in the Star.

She said the abuse she suffered remained an open secret in the Munro family for years and, for a time, led to estrangement from her entire family.

Now, as a meditation and mindfulness teacher, Skinner said she has reconciled with her siblings but never with her mother.

Bookstore supports daughter

Munro's Books, a bookstore Alice Munro founded in Victoria with her first husband, James, posted a statement on its website supporting Skinner. The bookstore has been independently owned since 2014.

"Munro's Books unequivocally supports Andrea Robin Skinner as she publicly shares her story of her sexual abuse as a child," the store said. "Learning the details of Andrea's experience has been heartbreaking."

The bookstore also released a statement on its website from Andrea, her siblings Jenny and Sheila, and her step-brother Andrew.

"By acknowledging and honouring Andrea's truth, and being very clear about their wish to end the legacy of silence, the current store owners have become part of our family's healing," they said. "We wholly support the owners and staff."

Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany are expecting their third baby

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes are expecting their third baby.

Patrick and Brittany, a former college soccer player, are already parents of two adorable kids. The couple announced via Instagram that they are making room for one more, in a post liked by Taylor Swift herself. (Swift is dating Mahomes' teammate, Travis Kelce.)

The family shared some video outtakes from a photoshoot featuring Patrick, Brittany, 3-year-old daughter Sterling Skye, 1-year-old son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon ... and ultrasound photos of the new baby.

The family, all dressed up in shades of white, posed, danced, snuggled and smiled in the video that is set to the song "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars.

The parents captioned the video simply, "Round three, here we come 🤍"

There's no due date listed.

The family has posted some sweet family announcements and memories through the years.

The couple used their dogs, Steel and Silver, to announce their oldest child's gender . The dogs walked down a runway and left pink paw prints behind to signal the arrival of a baby girl.

The couple announced  their daughter's arrival with matching Instagram posts, featuring a photo of the newborn clutching her parents’ fingers while mom Brittany donned a sparkly nameplate necklace that read “Sterling.”

In May 2022, the couple announced via Instagram  their family was growing  and that Sterling would be a big sister.

“Round 2,” they wrote alongside family photos of their little girl holding up a sign that read, “Big sister duties coming soon.” Sterling donned a shirt that read “I have a secret to tell you” for the family announcement.

For that gender reveal Instagram video, the duo squirted water guns filled with blue liquid, indicating a boy.

Whether this new baby is a boy or a girl, it's certainly a win for the Mahomes family.
