Publication support services.

Publishing years of research as a paper in International Journals has always been a must-do for researchers across the globe. Therefore, taking help from a Publication Support Service provider makes the process easier. It is a widely known fact that academic publishing is a rigorous process. For many researchers, especially first timers, the publishing process can be a daunting task. Non-adherence to journal guidelines and publishing protocols result in outright rejections. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the impact factor the main standard to be considered while choosing a target journal +.

Impact factor is only one of the measures you should take into consideration while selecting a suitable journal. Other factors like journal’s aim and scope match with your research topic, novelty of the study, frequency of publication, journal coverage (indexed in well-known databases like Scopus, SCI, SCIE, SSCI etc.) are also prominent factors while choosing a target journal.

Is the first journal recommended by the Journal Selection Service the best journal for my thesis? +

The 3-5 journals we recommend are suitable for submitting your manuscript. However, we suggest you choose the first two journals under the "Most Promising" category selected by experts for a higher publication chance. You can choose the journals under the "Normal" category as per the degree of relevance to your manuscript by reading the expert's opinions below. Accordingly, you can select one of the five recommended journals for the submission of your manuscript.

Are influencing factors the main criteria to consider when choosing a target journal? +

Influencing factors are one of the measures to consider when selecting the right journal. The journal's goals, alignment with the research topic, the novelty of the research, frequency of publication, journal coverage (indexed in well-known databases such as Scopus, SCI, SCIE, SSCI, etc.) are also the major factors to consider when choosing a target journal.

What fee do I have to pay to the journal and are these included in your Submission service? +

The fee paid to the journal is known as Article Processing Charge and it is not included in the package / Service fee.

Can I upload a LaTex file? +

Yes. You can share a LaTex file along with the same text in the PDF format. Please note that during the editing service, our editors will recommend the changes in the PDF file and will not be able to implement the changes in the LaTex files directly.

Do we use Artificial Intelligence to suggest suitable journals in the Journal Selection Assistant / PR / Top Impact Editing service? +

No. AI may not fully understand the nuances of a manuscript's content or the subtle differences between journals and hence, subject matter experts perform the job.

If I choose FSP, can I opt for PR service first and JSA later? +

Yes, in case you have a chosen journal, you can proceed with PR service and in an unfortunate case of rejection, you can choose to opt for Journal Selection Assistance service later.

Additional Publishing Options

In addition to the freely available electronic version available in the IR@UF , authors have additional publishing options for their thesis or dissertation. The Libraries do not endorse any binding service or publishing platform and strongly recommend that you research to identify the service that best meets your needs. We are happy to discuss your needs and, to the best of our ability, help you with your choice(s). If you have any questions, please contact the Mediated Submissions team at [email protected] .

In 2018, the Smathers Libraries and BiblioLabs began a program to offer retail print-on-demand options to authors of digital theses and dissertations, at no cost to the author. Authors retained the copyright to their work. As of Spring 2021, the Libraries and BiblioLabs are reviewing their partnership. This page will be updated with information as it becomes available.

Printing, Binding, and Online Self-Publishing Options

Printing and binding as well as publishing for sale services are available from many providers, including:

  • Draft2Digital requires a percentage of royalties instead of a setup fee, and supports broad digital distribution, with beta print distribution through Ingram. For more information, see the FAQ.
  • GradWorks Online  is a service that initially started at Brigham Young University (BYU). It is now open to anyone interested in printing a copy of their thesis or dissertation. Authors can choose from full-color or black-and-white printing options, and there are limited options for customizing the front cover. Pricing varies; contact GradWorks for a quote.
  • IngramSpark: requires a setup fee for print/ebook and then supports broad digital and print distribution. For more information, see the FAQ and file creation guide.
  • Kindle Direct Publishing has various options and processes, with information for different workflows.
  • Lulu offers various formats and options, with more information for creating by type.
  • The Book Manufacturers’ Institute is an industry group that maintains a list of binders that are members of the organization.
  • Thesis on Demand is a service offered by the HF Group, who provide commercial binding for libraries as well as individualized service. Thesis on Demand enables you to print copies of your thesis or dissertation for personal use. They offer options for printing, paper, and leather or cloth cover choices. Thesis on Demand features a quick calculator to estimate cost.

ProQuest Traditional Publishing

The ProQuest ® Traditional Publishing option makes your dissertation available for sale through ProQuest’s Dissertations Express service and lists it in ProQuest’s Dissertations and Theses subscription database (UF does not send master’s theses to ProQuest). There is no cost to the author for participation. Authors receive 10% royalties on the net revenue of sales of their work, and royalties are paid when accrued earned royalties reach $25. Authors retain the copyright to their work. For more information, please review the full Traditional Publishing Agreement .

NOTE: If you have chosen a restriction period for your dissertation, ProQuest will not produce bound copies until your restriction at UF (and at ProQuest if you chose one there) expires. They  will  charge your credit card immediately after you place an order. If, for example, you chose a Secret for 2 Years restriction and placed an order for a bound copy while completing your ProQuest submission form, they will charge you immediately but it will be over two years until you receive that book.

Dissertation Publication

Doctoral dissertations document the discoveries, findings and insights gained through University-supported research. The University requires — and takes responsibility for ensuring — that dissertations produced in fulfillment of degree requirements will be part of the publicly available scholarly record.

TGS deposits dissertations into the ProQuest Database and the  institutional repository  of Northwestern University.

Copyright Policy

Except under unusual special circumstances, student authors own copyright for their dissertations and the University’s right to publish is non-exclusive. This means that the author, as the copyright owner, is free to also publish the work. Authors may make arrangements with other entities (such as scholarly societies and commercial publishers) for publication of the dissertation as a whole or in part, as well as for publication of other works derived from, or building on, the dissertation work. However, authors may not grant any other entity exclusive publication rights to the dissertation itself.

Northwestern University may use its copy or copies and make the content available to others without restriction. The University Library’s  scholarly research services  has resources to help scholars understand publishing options and author’s rights.

Copyright policy can be found at NU’s  Innovation and New Ventures Office  web page.

Delay of Publication (Embargo)

Students may elect to delay publication of the dissertation by submitting a request providing a rationale for the embargo and selecting an embargo length when depositing the dissertation via ProQuest. Students will have the option to select a publishing option that pertains to the  ProQuest database  and separately to the  institutional repository . An embargo has the effect of restricting online access to the dissertation through the ProQuest database and through the institutional repository for the period of the embargo. Metadata (author, title, abstract, keywords and subjects) about the embargoed dissertation will be available through ProQuest and the library catalog. Users of those systems are able to search for and see the metadata, but not the actual text or other content of the dissertation.  The University’s expectation is that dissertations approved by TGS will be released for use through the ProQuest database and through the institutional repository without delay. The University is proud of the accomplishments of its PhD graduates and wants their research to be available to the world as soon as possible. Consult TGS's policy on dissertations as well as the Institutional Repository Publishing Frequently Asked Questions for Dissertation Authors  for more information.

Dissertation Assistance

TGS recognizes that scholarly writing is a process that benefits from conversations and consultations with others. As such, TGS supports Northwestern services such as The Graduate Writing Place, graduate writing workshops, and dissertation boot camps, which offer appropriate levels of writing assistance, provided by facilitators/consultants who are trained to help you avoid any academic integrity violations. Beyond such services, all graduate student writers should consult with their advisors about appropriate forms of assistance before assistance is rendered. Regardless of the type of assistance you receive with your writing, it is appropriate to acknowledge this support. The policy on Dissertation Assistance can be found in the  Policy section .

Research Data Archiving

Researchers and institutions have a shared responsibility to ensure long-term research data preservation. The University Libraries offers data repository and management services to help students archive research data and analysis code for others to find and use. For a list of all services available, please take a look here .

Arch  is a digital repository service for research materials. Students can use this service to deposit any supplemental files created for the dissertation research to be made available to the public, including data, analysis code, figures, presentations, and media. In addition to Arch, Northwestern researchers have access to Dryad, a data repository for preserving and sharing research data. Northwestern’s institutional membership allows researchers to archive and share any size data file at no additional cost.

Revising Your Dissertation for Publication

While a dissertation’s in-depth research and analysis can provide a strong foundation for a book, the dissertation itself is not a book and will not be published by an academic press without substantial revisions. Some acquisitions editors are interested first books, especially if they bring new perspectives and fresh ideas to a field, while others do not often publish first books. If you are considering submitting your dissertation for publication, we recommend that you contact editors at university presses that publish in your subject area for guidance on revising your work. Many editors prefer to be involved in the early stages of this process so they can advise you on how to structure the book and your arguments to create a publishable book. Editors generally require changes in the length, content, tone, and style of a dissertation in order to produce a book that will appeal to buyers in the academic market. Read more about submitting a proposal in our Scholarly Publishing Guide .

Exploring the Life-Course Experiences of Justice-Involved Military Veterans: Deviance, Mental Health Outcomes, and Daily Experiences

This dissertation examines the role military service in the life-course experiences of justice-involved military veterans.

The findings of this study on the role of military service in the lives of justice-involved military veterans suggest that the role of military service is nuanced and that for many veterans the military directly impacted both deviance and mental health outcomes. Further, emotionality of these veterans is quite variant over time, while social togetherness and engagement in activity show to be impactful on emotional well-being. Overall, this research expands the understanding of the role of military service in the life-course and provides an in-depth look into the daily and life-course experiences of justice-involved veterans, ultimately giving voice to the veterans themselves to articulate their own experiences and needs. This study explores the life-course experiences of justice-involved veterans in three separate, yet interconnected ways: (1) trajectories of deviance across the life-course and the impact of military service on deviance; (2) the relationships between military service, mental health, and negative life-course outcomes; and (3) the daily experiences of justice-involved veterans, including who they spend time with, what they spend time doing, and how these factors impact emotion. This work is one of the few to utilize qualitative inquiry to better understand the relationship between military service and trajectories of deviance for justice-involved veterans, and is the first to use ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methodology to examine the daily experiences of justice-involved veterans.

Senior Thesis Spotlight: Fernando Avilés-García used artificial intelligence to analyze Dante’s 'Divine Comedy.'

“This project let me overlap my love of solving puzzles through code with my passion for Italian,” says Fernando Avíles-García (center), shown with Gaetana Marrone-Puglia, professor of French and Italian (at left), and Christiane Fellbaum, a lecturer with the rank of professor in computer science, linguistics and the Council of the Humanities.

In his final year at Princeton, Fernando Avilés-García tackled 700-year-old literature with an innovative approach: building an artificially intelligent tool to analyze the language of Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy.”

“The Comedy has been egregiously underserved by modern language models, considering how weighty a text it is,” said Avilés-García, a computer science major with a certificate from the Department of French and Italian. “This project let me overlap my love of solving puzzles through code with my passion for Italian.”

“It’s one of the most original senior theses I’ve read at Princeton through the years — and I’ve read some great senior theses,” said Gaetana Marrone-Puglia, a professor of French and Italian who has taught at Princeton since 1988. “Fernando brought a computer model to texts that normally are in the hands of medievalists. It’s a perfect marriage of science and humanities.”

The final product, “Divining language: Unearthing medieval Italian through natural language processing (NLP),” contributed to his graduating with departmental high honors and winning the inaugural Lucio Caputo Senior Thesis Prize “for an outstanding thesis on the literature, language, culture, economy, history, politics or society of Italy.”

“He has created a tool that I think will be beneficial for the Italian literature community and will inspire future studies,” said Christiane Fellbaum , Avilés-García’s thesis adviser. She is a lecturer with the rank of professor in computer science , linguistics and the Council of the Humanities , as well as a Ph.D. graduate of Princeton in linguistics.

Getting past imposter syndrome

In his first programming courses at Princeton, Avilés-García found himself delighting in the rush of conquering problems. “I really got hooked on that feeling of, ‘I’m making things!’” he said.

By his sophomore year, he was ready to declare computer science as his major. “But part of me was scared, because all the computer science kids I knew had done so much coding in high school,” he said. “Part of me wondered, ‘Am I cut out for this?’”

Once, when Avilés-García was assisting with an intro course, a first-year student asked him about applying a data structure that he’d never even heard of.

But then he thought, “If I’m good enough to teach these kids, or at least debug their code, I can hang in there,” he recalled. So he declared the major and followed his love of language into AI-based translation, eventually creating an app that can translate whole books at once.

Many undergraduates naturally build bridges between humanities and AI, said Natalia Ermolaev , executive director of the Center for Digital Humanities at Princeton. “This happens all the time at Princeton, because we have so many computer science majors that secretly love classics or Italian literature or medieval architecture,” she said.

“So they come to us saying, ‘Please give me a text to work with, or some problem that I can apply my computational knowledge to.’ And then they are floored by the fact that they have to create a dataset, or deal with a language that doesn’t easily get plugged into the models. We see the lightbulbs go off as they gain a fresh understanding of the limitations of models, and just how much of the Internet is English focused. So then comes the creativity. Do you tweak the models or enhance your data? In that process, you learn a lot about the material and about the language, and from there about the culture.”

Fernando wearing his 2024 sweater

Fernando Avíles-García won the inaugural Lucio Caputo Senior Thesis Prize “for an outstanding thesis on the literature, language, culture, economy, history, politics or society of Italy.” He grew up bilingual in English and Spanish, and he fell in love with Italian during summers in Sicily.

From Mexico City to medieval Italy

Born in Mexico City and raised in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Avilés-García grew up bilingual in English and Spanish, and he fell in love with Italian during summers in Sicily.

So when he was looking for an subject to tackle with his AI language modeling skills, his French and Italian adviser Simone Marchesi steered him toward one of the greatest works in any language: Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” a three-volume journey from Hell to Paradise written between 1308 and 1321.

Just one problem: Dante wrote in an archaic form of a Tuscan dialect, so even modern Italian language models struggle with the text, and English-trained models fare much worse.

“Dante is the father of the Italian language, but his text is not standard Italian,” said Marchesi, a professor of French and Italian and a 2002 Ph.D. graduate of Princeton in c omparative literature . It took months of effort, and collaborations with programmers from the University of Pisa, for Avilés-García to train his model to parse medieval Italian.

“Once you have that, you can run fun and intriguing and promising queries, as Fernando has been doing,” Marchesi said.

Shining a new light

Avilés-García began quantifying words that frequently appear together in the Comedy.

He struck gold when he ran queries on the noun “love” ( amore ). He guessed some words that would accompany it — Beatrice (Dante’s muse), heart, the verb love (amare) , affection, sweet, beautiful, beauty, woman, wife, desire, flesh — then ran the model.

He was surprised that almost none of his guesses regularly appear within 15 words of amore , but many words related to light (shine, star, ray) and darkness (night) do. When he turned back to the text, that unexpected connection unlocked a new insight. “Dante describes Hell as a place devoid of stars,” he said. “Then I started seeing that Hell is defined by an absence of this much bigger thing: love.”

One of the strengths of interdisciplinary AI research at Princeton is the presence of deep expertise in many subject areas. In this case, Aviles turned to one of the world’s leading Dante experts, Marchesi, to ask if the connection between stars and love and Hell was a trite observation that scholars have recognized for centuries or a radically new concept, or somewhere in between.

“What he has found is real, I would say, and not self-evident,” Marchesi said. Most scholars, he added, have focused on the role of stars as navigational tools, and thus Hell as a disorienting place. “ Fernando has proved that a larger conceptual constellation is at stake in their absence. ”

Marchesi says he is intrigued by the promise of this new language model. “When you get trained for your job as an academic, you get trained to answer old questions,” he said. “The really exciting part is crossing paths with someone who can ask new questions.”

He looks forward to using this AI model and its future iterations in his own research. “Someone who is a Princetonian once is a Princetonian forever,” he said. “I can reach out to Fernando wherever he goes after Princeton and ask questions and get friendly answers. It’s beautiful.”

A new publication was launched  at Auberge de Castille by the Office of the Principal Permanent Secretary, entitled ‘Is-Servizz Pubbliku fl-Istorja’. This publication has as general editor Prof. Godfrey Pirotta who, together with the authors, presented the first copy to Public Service Head Tony Sultana.

‘Is-Servizz Pubbliku fl-Istorja’ deals with the work carried out by the Public Service in different areas. Research has gone back hundreds of years. Among others, we find how and when the Public Administration started being run by the Maltese, as under the British there was resistance to this. Information is available on the first examinations carried out so that the Maltese can enter the public administration. The themes of education, health and public works are addressed by various authors who wrote about the book series of ‘Id-Denfil’, the health service in Malta over the years, as well as how the Department of Public Works evolved.

Sultana said that this publication will fill a gap in this field as the need for studies in  Public A dministration in the Maltese language has long been felt. He said that this publication will be distributed in all libraries around Malta and Gozo so that it can be enjoyed by everyone.

On his part, Pirotta reiterated that the public administration has a number of branches which collaborate and work together. This is to implement the social, economic and political policies of a democratically elected government. This is complemented by the Public Service's commitment to help the government carry out its responsibilities in the local and international field.

Anyone interested in obtaining this publication free of charge should send an email on  [email protected]   or call on 22001489 for further information.

USDA moves to gain better understanding of forest and grazing conservation practices

WASHINGTON, June 20, 2024 — This summer, the Conservation Practice Adoption Motivations Survey (CPAMS), a joint project between USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will be mailed to 43,000 forest and grazing landowners and managers across the nation. The CPAMS gathers information to understand why people choose to use different conservation practices, and whether they continue to use practices over time. The data will help improve voluntary conservation programs. NASS will mail an invitation to respond early online at agcounts.usda.gov starting June 24. NASS will mail questionnaires on July 8 with the option for survey recipients to respond online, by mail, or fax. If NASS does not receive completed questionnaires by July 28, they may reach out to schedule interviews. A data highlights publication is scheduled for October 2024 and will be published at nass.usda.gov .

Four different conservation categories are researched through CPAMS overall: crop practices, confined livestock practices, grazing practices and forestry practices. This year, NASS will survey grazing practices and forestry practices. Crop practices and confined livestock practices were surveyed in 2022. The grazing sample respondents are randomly selected from NASS records of operations that meet the grazing land criteria. The forestry sample respondents are determined by the USDA Forest Service area frame determination of wood or forest landowners.

“By responding to CPAMS, you can help shape the future of conservation, agriculture, and forestry,” said NASS Administrator Joseph L. Parsons. “With better data to help us understand how conservation fits into existing agriculture and forest management operations, program resources can be focused on where they will be most effective. I encourage everyone who receives a CPAMS questionnaire to respond.”

Protected by federal law, responses are confidential and used for statistical purposes only. No single respondent can be identified from the published data.

“Your input will help improve our voluntary conservation programs, including technical and financial assistance,” said NRCS Chief Terry Cosby. “By responding to CPAMS, you also help document and give credit to your ongoing stewardship of America’s agricultural forest land resources.”

Previous CPAMS data are available on the Highlights page of the NASS website. For more information, visit nass.usda.gov/go/CPAMS . For help with the CPAMS questionnaire, call 888-424-7828.

NASS is the federal statistical agency responsible for producing official data about U.S. agriculture and is committed to providing timely, accurate and useful statistics in service to U.S. agriculture.
