“Presentations are probably the most powerful marketing asset, whether for a webinar, a first meeting deck, an investor pitch, or an internal alignment/planning tool,” says marketing expert  Cari Jaquet . “Remember, the goal of a case study presentation is not just to inform, but also to persuade and engage your audience.” 

Use these tips to make your presentation engaging and effective so that it resonates with your audience:

• Focus on the Problem and Solution:  Clearly articulate the problem you addressed and how your solution was unique or effective. This section is the core of a case study and should be given ample attention. 
• Use Data Wisely:  Incorporate relevant data to support your points, but avoid overwhelming the audience with numbers. Use charts and graphs for visual representation of data to make it more digestible. 
• Highlight Key Results:  Emphasize the impact of your solution with clear and quantifiable results. This could include increased revenue, cost savings, improved customer satisfaction, and similar benefits.
• Incorporate Visuals:  Use high-quality visuals to break up text and explain complex concepts. Consider using photos, infographics, diagrams, or short videos.  “I put together the graphics that tell the story visually. Speakers often just need a big image or charts and graphs to help guide their talk track. Of course, if the audience expects details (for example, a board deck), the graphic helps reinforce the narrative,” shares Jaquet.
• Include Testimonials:  Adding quotes or testimonials from clients or stakeholders adds credibility and a real-world perspective to your presentation. 
• Practice Storytelling:  A well-delivered presentation is as important as its content. Practice your delivery to ensure you are clear, concise, and engaging. At this point, it also makes sense to solicit feedback from stakeholders. Jaquet concurs: “Once my outline and graphics are in place, I typically circulate the presentation draft for review. The feedback step usually surfaces nuances in the story or key points that need to show up on the slides. There is no point in building out tons of slides without alignment from the speaker or subject matter experts.”
• End with a Strong Conclusion:  Summarize the key takeaways and leave your audience with a final thought or call to action. 
• Seek Feedback:  After your presentation, request feedback to understand what worked well and what could be improved for future presentations.

Analyze what you did, any mistakes you made (for example, choosing the wrong people or not communicating clearly), and try to do better the next time.

Some managers want to control everything. Maybe they are perfectionists and think that there is only one way to do things (their way) and everything has to be perfect.

However, being a leader means leading, inspiring, and trusting people. If you follow your team members’ every movement, you will be stressed and they will feel oppressed.

You need to let go.

Delegating can be time-consuming . It takes time to plan the delegation process, explain things clearly to your employees and follow things up. So, sometimes it is tempting to just do things yourself.

This attitude may save time in the short run, but in the long run, it is destructive.

If you do everything, your staff will always feel dependent on you, they will feel that they are not trusted and you will not have the time to focus on vision, strategy, and team development, which is what a manager should do, because you will be too busy doing things that you could delegate.

Decision making • Many Companies work in a professional manner and gives authority to take decisions • But some Companies boasts about this and still have power with top boss and others should just follow what is told to do. • OR they take decision and this has to be implemented in all perspective • OR they would have already pre conceived ideas and force you to implement what is in their mind.

Decision making • In this presentation I am trying to project live examples which really happened in one of the organisation but with slight touch of humour • This also does not mean that HR guys can not make decision on their own. • What ever the decision given by the top, the HR guy has to weigh the pros and cons and implement. • Should feel the pulse of the people before implementing or suggesting new ideas. • Should be able to communicate to the top the practicality of any new idea or method

Case study : 1 • The Managing Director of a firm wanted to introduce Banana in the menu of canteen • He called the HR guy and told him to have Canteen committee meeting and discuss about this. • The HR guy called for a meeting and suggested this • But the question came when to give the banana – During the Break fast time or during lunch ?. All were hesitating to take a decision. • HR guy told – wait,wait I will ask MD and come back

Case study : 1 contd • He came back and said, MD has told us to give during Lunch time. • But again one more question Came up – is it before lunch or after lunch ? • HR guy told – wait,wait I will ask MD and come back • He came back and said, MD has told us to give after lunch as fruits are eaten after lunch • But again one more question came up – whether to give green ripe bananas or yellow ripe bananas ?

Case study :1 contd • HR guy told – wait, wait I will ask MD and come back • He came back and said, let us give yellow ripe banana as it is good for health. • But again one more question came up – Whether the banana to be peeled and kept in the plate or the whole fruit to be kept ? • HR guy told – wait, wait I will ask MD and come back • He came back and said – MD has told us to peel and keep it so that it will save time and they can go back to work fast.

Case study :1 contd • But again one more question came up- Whether to eat the banana or to eat the peel ? • This time the Committee took a bold decision and said let us not go back to MD. We shall eat the banana and throw the peel !!! • A major decision taken by the canteen committee !!!!

Case study : 2 • MD of the firm wanted to change the colour of the uniform issued to employees • He called the HR guy and asked him to get seven sample colour pieces and show it to him. • Promptly HR guy brought and displayed them to MD. • MD said, he liked the cream one. How ever he wanted to take a democratic decision. • He asked the HR guy to take an opinion pool by showing the colours to employees . • Promptly the HR guy circulated to 150 employees and took the opinion

Case study : 2 contd • In the opinion pool Light blue colour got the maximum voting. • When the HR guy told this to MD , he said there is some thing wrong. “Do one thing – get all the colours stitched to uniform and take another round of opinion.” • HR guy promptly did the same and took one more round of opinion. • Again the the Blue colour won.

Case study : 2 contd • But again MD said, some thing has gone wrong – get it stitched in different styles and take one more round of opinion. • HR guy promptly got them stitched in different styles and took one more opinion. • Again the Blue colour won • But again MD said - something, some where we have gone wrong.

Case study : 2 contd • He instructed the HR guy to call 7 employees and make them wear the seven different colour uniforms and display the same to employees and take one more opinion • This time also the Blue colour won. • But MD said again - some thing has gone wrong. I think you should bring all 7 employees wearing uniform in front of me, let me see it. • HR guy did the same.

Case study : 2 contd • After seeing all the employees wearing different colours, MD said – “I told you in the beginning itself, see the Cream colour looks so nice. I think we should issue cream uniform to all. • HR guy had to follow the decision given by MD and had to convince all employees !!!!

Case study :3 • MD of the firm wanted to introduce Hand pound red rice, Vegetable oil for frying, and Brown bread as menu in the canteen, as they are good for health. • Against the wish of the employees the same was introduced and the employees had no option.

Case study:3 contd • One day after the lunch one of the employee was having the Brown Bread in his hand and chit chatting with his friends in a group out side the canteen . • At the same time MD of the firm was also nearby and talking to some one. • At that moment a dog came near the group of employees standing. • The employee who had the bread loaf gave it to the dog. The dog sniffed it, grabbed it and started walking.

Case study : 3 contd • The employee kept on watching the dog and told his friends not to disturb him • MD who was nearby also heard this and was curious and came to the employee and asked – why are you staring at the dog for such a long. • The employee answered with out hesitation - Sir I want see how far the dog goes after eating this bread loaf and conks dead.

Case study : 3 contd • MD understood the message and stopped issuing Brown bread, Hand pound red rice and vegetable oil fried items in canteen !!!!!

Case study : 4 contd • A corporate office was four storied building and had a lift. • MD of the firm got a bright idea and called the HR guy and instructed him • Please display on the notice board and near the lift, a placard – ” EMPLOYEES BELOW 30 YEARS OF AGE USE STAIRCASETO BURN THEIR CALORIES” • HR guy did the same promptly

Case study :4 contd • Some employees seeing this strictly followed • But some young employees especially who were directly selected from Campus recruitments started commenting and murmuring and still used the staircase • But some how wanted to convey to MD that they are not happy about this. • They started commenting to HR. Why Management should tell us how to burn our calories. We know how to do it.

Case study : 4 contd • In one of the monthly meeting of freshers with MD this topic came up. • Intelligently the freshers calculated the time taken for them to climb up the stairs case and rest time needed for them after climbing • They pointed out with the statistics the waste of office hours per day/per month/per year and how it can be better utilized. • After the meeting the HR guy was called by MD and asked to remove the placard near the lift.

Case study :4 contd • He also commented – “You HR guys should apply your mind before doing something – Don’t follow the blind instructions given by MD” • What is the Lesson learnt ???????

Case Study : 5 • In an organization there were many above the age group of 40 years. • The MD of the firm was health conscious. • He decided to introduce low calorie diet in the canteen for above 40 years of age. • He called the HR guy and asked him to call a dietician and design a lunch with low calories diet for above 40 years of age.

Case study : 5 contd • The HR guy promptly called a dietician and designed a lunch with low calories and introduced in the canteen. • Displayed the contents of the lunch on the counter every day and instructed the above 40 group to have this lunch. • For few days it worked fine. • The above 40 employees after some days started taking this in addition some more dish from the regular counter to supplement the short comings and also some food stuffs were tasty in the regular counter.

Case study : 5 contd • After some days people who took lunch from both the counters put on weight. • After some more days no body went to the counter above 40 lunch. • All started taking lunch from the regular counter by selecting what ever they felt like eating. • So – what is the lesson learnt ????

Learning to Delegate: A Mini Case Study

This is the fourth project that Anna has delegated to Amanda and she is starting to feel she would be better off doing it herself! While Amanda is willing to take on additional assignments, she just doesn’t seem to be willing to be responsible for the assignment. She won’t do anything without first checking in with Anna. Today alone she walked into Anna’s office four times to ask these questions:

• “How should I do this?”
• “I can’t reach Jack on the phone and I need to ask him a question. What should I do?”
• “Where can I find the information I need to complete this task?”
• “I contacted Terry but she is on vacation for the next week. What do you want me to do?”

The last time Amanda came in to the office, Anna lost it. She told her to forget what she is doing and she’ll give it to someone else who can handle the assignment. After Amanda left, Anna realized she didn’t handle that well.

Consider also that:

Delegating is not an easy task. As a manager, you can’t delegate the same way to one person who reports to you as you would to another. Some employees will need more guidance to get work done; others may have the skills and experience to move forward with any task delegated to them. In order to delegate effectively it is essential to understand your direct reports – their skills, experiences, goals, capabilities. Without understanding this, it is not possible to effectively delegate assignments.

Back to Anna:

Anna is understandably frustrated; however, the situation really is also partly Anna’s fault. Amanda, of course, does bear some responsibility. In this situation, we want to explore why Amanda feels as if she cannot make any decision without first checking with Anna. Did Anna potentially make it clear early on that she is the ultimate decision-maker? Has Amanda failed before and she is worried about failing again? Is Anna simply delegating assignments that Amanda may not be ready to undertake?

Anna should sit down with Amanda to discuss the situation further and figure out how best to proceed, in collaboration with Amanda. She might apologize to Amanda for how she handled the last encounter, explaining she was frustrated and did not handle it well. She might ask Amanda to help her understand why she feels like she cannot take steps to complete an assignment, making many of the decisions on how to proceed on her own. Through an honest conversation with Amanda, Anna will learn how best to delegate to Amanda. Through a conversation with Amanda, Anna will learn more about her skills and experiences and where her comfort level is; which will enable Anna to more effectively manage assignments delegated.

Lukic recalls his summer internship, where he had to interview 30 engineers about materials science over three days, transcribe the conversations, distill the insights, and create slides. This labor-intensive process took two weeks. In contrast, a recent consultant used BCG's enterprise GPT to perform a similar task. "On the third day, he had slides and insights ready to go," Lukic marvels. The AI tool transcribed interviews, highlighted key themes, and generated draft presentations in minutes, reducing a two-week process to two or three days.

2. Gene: BCG's Innovative Conversational AI:

Another striking example of AI's impact at BCG is the development of Gene, a conversational AI designed to engage with humans and create audio experiences. Originally conceived as a co-host for BCG's "Imagine This" podcast about the future, Gene has evolved into a versatile tool for client engagement and content creation.

Paul Michelman, editor-in-chief at BCG, explains, "Gene was born for a specific job, really one job, and its original training was to be a co-host of a podcast." However, the potential of Gene quickly became apparent, and its applications have expanded. BCG's enterprise GPT is a cornerstone of their AI strategy. Rolled out to every employee, this tool ensures all data remains within BCG's control. Consultants can also build their own GPTs for specific engagements, fostering innovation and efficiency. Over 3,000 GPTs have been created, addressing tasks from document summarization to administrative functions. Lukic highlights its impact on productivity, noting, "It's really helping us move to a different level of speed."

With AI taking over routine tasks, the role of consultants is evolving. Lukic underscores the need for purposeful toil and sanity checks to ensure junior consultants develop essential skills. He explains, "We are forcing some of those conversations with our team members, so that we can build their skills along the way." This includes teaching consultants how to engage with AI tools effectively, ensuring they can provide accurate and reliable insights.

The development of Gene has also prompted new considerations in AI deployment. Bill Moore from BCG Design Studios, who created Gene, explains the challenges in balancing autonomy and control: "We adjust, we work with the temperature to keep that sort of fine-tuned and we'll drop it down to zero if we need really accurate responses."

Measuring The Impact Of AI

BCG conducted a scientific experiment involving 750 employees to measure the impact of generative AI on performance and efficiency. The results were compelling. For straightforward tasks, productivity increased by 30-40% for new hires and 20-30% for experienced consultants.
