What happens if I do not have a UCAS Number or Application Code?
Students who do not yet have a UCAS Number or MyCampus number are unable to use the online application system as this code is used to authenticate the student and their academic status.
Can I apply if Glasgow is my Insurance Choice?
No, as we only accept applications for accommodation from students who have indicated that they are definitely coming to study at the University of Glasgow and our accommodation system does not hold student records with an insurance status. If you eventually decide to come to Glasgow, your study status will be updated to either Unconditional Firm or Conditional Firm and at that stage your student record will be imported into the accommodation system thereby allowing you to apply for accommodation. Please note that it can take up to 72 hours from the time that you firmly accept your offer of study before your record is imported into our accommodation system.
I live within commuting distance of the University, what are my chances of being offered University accommodation?
If you currently live within reasonable commuting distance of the University but would like to live in University halls you can apply for accommodation as soon as you have firmly accepted your offer of study.
In years of exceptionally high demand , students who live within a reasonable commuting distance (c. 1hour by public transport) will not be offered accommodation until a room becomes available. This may be after the start of the semester.
Postcodes within reasonable commuting distance:

When will I receive an offer of accommodation?
We anticipate that we will send offers accommodation to those applicants who have firmly accepted an Unconditional Firm course offer from April 2024 for session 2024/2025.
For undergraduate students with conditional offers that successfully become unconditional offers, the Allocations Team process these applications shortly after Higher & A Level results are published.
Postgraduate applicants falling under the International Postgraduate Taught Student Guarantee will receive an offer once the necessary criteria have been met.
Am I guaranteed my preferred Halls of Residence?
There is generally far greater demand for places in residential accommodation than there are places available, therefore it is not possible to offer every student their preferred choice.
Can I share with my friends?
If you wish to share with, or be close to friends you must clearly specify this requirement on the online application form in the section Additional Information. The friend(s) you wish to share with should do the same on their application(s).
How are students grouped in shared accommodation?
We take account of age and course of study in order to place students near to others with similar interests.
Can I request single or mixed sex accommodation?
Should single sex accommodation be requested at application stage, this will be guaranteed. A limited amount of mixed sex accommodation is available. If this is important to you, please provide additional information on the appropriate section of the application.
I am a disabled student/ I have a long-term medical condition. Will my accommodation needs be met?
If you have a disability or a long term medical condition that will impact on your academic or accommodation experience at University, you should register with Disability Services as soon as possible.
We have a range of accommodation for students with disabilities or long-term medical conditions. Please include details of your specific requirements to assist us in allocating suitable accommodation.
This information may include things like requiring a ground floor room or a room in a residence nearer to the University due to mobility issue or illnesses which cause fatigue, a mini fridge being required for medicines or additional fire system equipment being required due to hearing impairment.
You should also include information on any medical condition which may not affect your room/residence but may be useful for us to know of e.g. epilepsy, mental health issues, Autism, etc.
How long can I stay in my accommodation?
Undergraduates and some postgraduates will sign an agreement for approximately 39 weeks (273 days), which covers both Christmas and Easter holidays. If the academic year of your course exceeds 39 weeks you may be able to extend your contract accordingly, subject to availability. There are a limited number of 51/52-week contracts available for postgraduate applicants. Should you require accommodation over the summer break, this can be arranged subject to availability, but you may need to move to another room.
What if I am studying at Glasgow for only part of the full Academic Year e.g. Exchange students?
Please see the Admissions Policy for accommodation applicants on Study Abroad and Exchange programmes.
If I have a medical condition/allergy which will have a bearing on my allocation, will this be taken into account?
Yes; please give details on the online application form and send a separate sheet, substantiated with a medical certificate or letter from your GP where possible, to Accommodation Services .
If you have a food allergy it is important to advise us so that this can be noted if you are allocated a room at Wolfson Hall (our undergraduate, catered residence). It is very important that any such condition is declared as early as possible, in order to avoid the most suitable type of allocation becoming full before we are aware of your needs.
Can I view my accommodation before I move in?
Images of our residences can be found on UofG Accommodation - Flickr and we have 360° tours of Murano Street Student Village and Queen Margaret Residence on YouTube Accommodation Services
I am a later year undergraduate (continuing student) and have not stayed in residence before, will I be offered accommodation?

Can I still live in University accommodation if my program starts after September?
Yes, we will hold accommodation for people who have courses starting after September. In the unlikely event that demand outstrips supply we will put you in touch with one of our private provider partners.
Will I be placed in a flat with other students starting at the same time as me? I’m concerned about arriving and everyone has already made friends.
Yes, in order to ensure cluster flats can be treated as “households” we will be allocating you with people due to arrive at the same time or within a few days of each other depending on travel arrangements.
Will I be charged for accommodation if my contract starts but intake is delayed or if I am not able to travel to the UK due to my country’s travel restrictions

Usually, the programme will consist of core and elective modules, which will allow students to specialise in areas of particular interest. University of Glasgow Review
- University was really good. It was in the Top 100 universities in the world. ,
- Quality of education was good. The courses were very practical where we had to brainstorm the solution. The exams were very practical oriented and didn't ask any theoretical questions. The staff was very supportive of all the things.
- "I enrolled during the Covid time which didn't give me full exposure to the university facilities. There is no placement system, so I had to search for jobs own my own. There is a lot of competition in job, so it takes a lot of time to find the right job."
The accommodation was really nice. There were 5 separate rooms for 5 people in my flat. We have shared kitchen and bathroom which can be a issue sometimes but if the roommates as good, it will be fine. The wifi, electricity, gas and water was free. Wifi had great speed, so anyone will have no complaints with it. My accommodation was a University accommodation which was very close to university (15 minutes walk), so I could also come back late at night from the library and it won't be an issue.
Overall experience was really good and it is always worth studying at a top university.
Good academics
- This was providing a new course different from other universities in the field of biomedical visualization. ,
- Students can learn at their own pace. Deadlines for online assignments are provided. Diversity and inclusion is followed properly. Some sort of scholarships and financial aids are available for international students but not for all courses.
- There is nothing to dislike except that fee structure unaffordable to Indian students.
It was good to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and working together for better future.
My journey studying abroad
- Being a Hogwarts fan, I always wanted to study here. The one-year program in the UK had made a great influence too. ,
- I had the honour of getting my MSc in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, and I am very grateful for many things about the school that made my academic journey truly remarkable. ,
- High Standards in Education: The University of Glasgow is known for its high standards in education. This was also true for the computer science programme. Not only were the teachers experts in their areas, they were also very passionate about teaching and helping their students reach their full potential. The challenging curriculum, wide range of research options, and cutting-edge tools all made my learning better. ,
- Multicultural Diversity: The University of Glasgow is proud of its diverse and welcoming population. Talking to students and teachers from around the world helped me see things from a different point of view and learn more about other cultures. My friends' different backgrounds and ideas helped me learn new things and gave me a global view on technology and computers. ,
- Historical Significance: The university has a long past that goes back to 1451. This gives the campus a unique feel. The stunning architecture, such as the iconic Gilbert Scott Building, and the sense of custom and heritage provided an inspiring backdrop for my studies. The place is where the past and the future meet, and I found it to be a great place to study. ,
- Opportunities for Research: The University of Glasgow is a centre for cutting edge research, and I had the chance to work on a number of research projects during my programme. The focus on study and new ideas made the workplace intellectually stimulating, and I had the chance to work on cutting-edge projects and help advance the field of computer science. ,
- Friendly Community: The university cares a lot about the health and happiness of its students and wants to help them. Access to academic advisors, job services, and extracurricular activities like clubs and societies made for a well-rounded support system that helped students grow personally and professionally. I felt like I was respected and supported in my schoolwork. ,
- Location: Glasgow is a lively city with lots of arts and culture, making it a great place for students to live. Because the university was right in the middle of the city, it was easy to get to cultural events, bars, and fun things to do. The friendly people and lively spirit of the city made learning at the University of Glasgow even more appealing. ,
- Overall, the University of Glasgow gave me a great academic experience, a community that was open and welcoming, a rich historical and cultural setting, and a lot of chances to do study and grow as a person. It is a place where academic excellence meets a world view, and I will always cherish the things I learned and the experiences I had there.
- There were some things I didn't like about my time at the University of Glasgow, but overall it was a good experience. ,
- Weather: One problem that is often brought up is the weather. Glasgow is known for having grey weather and a lot of rain, which can make outdoor activities less fun. But this is more of a problem with the weather than with the university itself. ,
- Class Size: In some common classes, there can be a lot of people in the class. In many colleges, this happens all the time, but it can make it hard to find a seat in class and talk to professors one-on-one. It's possible that smaller class sizes would make learning better. ,
- Administrative Processes: The University of Glasgow has a lot of administrative complications, just like many other colleges and universities. Sometimes, the steps for enrolling, registering, or getting a visa can be long and hard to understand. Streamlining the way administration works could make things better for all students. ,
- Cost of Living: Living in Glasgow can be pretty pricey, even though it's a lively and exciting city. This can be hard, especially for foreign students, and you may need to carefully plan your budget and finances. ,
- Communication - Despite the abundance of accessible support, obtaining accurate information can be challenging. Universities could communicate detailed information more frequently through social media platforms and daily emails.
Mine was student accommodation, 5 sharing with a monthly rent of 560(inclusive of wifi, electricity bills).
Overall, my time at the University of Glasgow has been very rewarding and life-changing. The school not only offered a top-notch education, but also a lively and varied student life. I have been able to do many academic and extracurricular things that have helped me grow as a person and as a thinker. The dedicated teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, and helpful community have all made my college experience one I will never forget.
- There were some things I didn't like about my time at the University of Glasgow, but overall it was a good experience. Weather: One problem that is often brought up is the weather. Glasgow is known for having grey weather and a lot of rain, which can make outdoor activities less fun. But this is more of a problem with the weather than with the university itself. ,
Course and college review
- The course modules were in accordance with my previous studies, the university I choose was also a well reputed university in my field .
My accommodation includes a kitchen and an ensuite room. I share kitchen with 5 more people .The cost is approximately 180 pounds per week.
- I choose UoG because they were offering an amalgamation of both biotechnology and management in my masters. They are a Russel group university and had a good QS and TOI ranking.
I live in university accommodation, I have my personal room but share a kitchen and washroom with 4 other people. It costs around 540 pounds a month.
University of Glasgow Review!
- I chose the university because it is ranked higher in the UK for economics as well as the scholarship. ,
- Firstly, the university campus itself is very large and has many facilities for students of all courses. There are many learning spaces and study areas as well. The university also encourages their students to take part in societies and clubs so that students can engage in extra-curricular actives. The university also has a diverse student body and hosts many cultural activities which is really important to me as an international student.
- This may not be directed to the university itself but the cost of living is very high at the moment which is an additional concern to the university tuition fee. Otherwise, I don't have any complaint or dislikes about the university itself.
The university has many accommodations which is usually a min of 15 to 25 mins max walk away from the main campus. The accommodation is organised like a apartment/flat where the student will have their own room with an en-suite bathroom but the kitchen and living space will be share.
Over the past 2 years I have really enjoyed my experience at the university. The university allows students strike a balance between their academics and their interests. I've had the opportunity to meet students from all over the world and pursue a course which is very dynamic and interesting.
Step by Step to Study Abroad
Accommodation was very good. Laundry and kitchen appliances were very user friendly and easy to use.
Excellent student satisfaction and very well ranked in subject field. Happy with content taught and post study work visa opportunities.
Review of University of Glasgow
i live in private Accommodation facility
The modules were very detail oriented and the university has a very good reputation and ranking. All the professors are very professional and reserach oriented teaching is delivered.
Studying in Glasgow
There are many options, both student accomodation and private. Student accomodation is definitely a little bit more expensive but would be all inclusive. In the UK, almost always you will have a room to yourself (no room sharing), just sharing of a flat with others (common kitchen, living room and maybe bathrooms)
University of glasgow is a very well renowned institution especially in the field of biological sciences and I also wanted to experience life in the UK

About the course
The University of Glasgow hosts the only academic unit in the UK exclusively dedicated to the teaching and research of Scottish Literature. Scottish literature fulfils a unique role at the University of Glasgow where it has been a fully-fledged independent subject since the early 1970s. As a relatively new subject in the academic context there is a great deal of research work still to be undertaken in Scottish literary studies. Glasgow is supremely well placed to support exciting postgraduate and postdoctoral research. Scottish literature at Glasgow is well connected to a number of key archives of Scottish material held by our own Special Collections and the Mitchell Library in the city. Moreover we have strong connections with Edinburgh's National Library of Scotland and the Scottish Poetry Library, both of which house a wealth of materials relating to Scottish writers and literature of all periods. Our students have had much success in the last ten years with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland. And we offer smaller student bursaries for specifically Scottish projects. Our College of Arts Graduate School creates a productive and interdisciplinary collegiate environment for all of our research students. We offer a range of services, courses and skills development opportunities for research students. The College of Arts is home to a vibrant and diverse community of students enrolled on taught masters and research programmes within a stimulating intellectual and cultural environment. Across every school and subject area the college is home to world-leading and agenda-setting research.
