8 Amazing Protein Bars You Can Buy From Asda
Cooking a whole batch of chicken every 5 minutes of the day can be a laborious and almost impossible process, so we need other ways to get protein in, particularly whilst on the move. Protein bars can be an easy and somewhat enjoyable way to do this. So let’s jump into Asda and see what they’ve got to offer. I’ll list off each brand and give you a few lines on each bar. I’m going for the ‘proper’ protein bars too, not your very small dose of protein, health bar ‘bites’.
- Warrior Raw
- Grenade Carb Killa
- USN Trust Bars
- Barebells Protein Bars
- FulFil Protein Bars
- PHD Smart Bar
- Optimum Nutrition Bars
- Asda Sports Nutrition Bars
Warrior Raw – High Protein range
1 – Flapjack Chocolate Brownie
2 – Flapjack Chocolate Peanut Butter
3 – Flapjack Rainbow Cupcake
4 – Flapjack White Chocolate Cranberry
5 – Flapjack Salted Caramel
You’re looking at around 21g of protein per bar and on average, 250 calories. This is decent for macros and a nice hit of protein whilst on the go. Warrior Raw products get a good review and don’t have a bad variety of flavours as you can see! The white chocolate cranberry is a nice little addition as opposed to your normal chocolate and caramel malarkey.
Grenade – Carb Killa range
1 – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
2 – Caramel Chaos
3 – White Chocolate Salted Peanut
4 – Fudged Up
5 – White Chocolate Cookie
6 – Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel
Grenade has always tried to level up their flavours and go for a ‘dessert’ style of bar, again a good range of flavours, I do have to say, they look rich! Around 23g of protein and averages at about 220 calories per bar, the macros are slightly better!
USN – Trust range
1 – Cookie Bar Salted Caramel
2 – Cookie Bar Double Chocolate
3 – Cookie Bar White Chocolate Raspberry
4 – Crunch Bar Raspberry Cheesecake
5 – Crunch Bar Fudge Brownie
6 – Crunch Bar Salted Caramel
7 – Crunch Bar White Chocolate Cookie Dough
USN offers a lovely variety of flavours, that raspberry cheesecake sounds like a bit of me! But anyway, a little bit less protein in these bars, around 15g whilst still hitting about 250 calories so if protein intake is your goal then these may not be the best, not by a lot but you might opt for a more protein-dense treat.
1 – Salty Peanut
2 – White Chocolate Almond
3 – Caramel Cashew
4 – Double Bite Caramel Crisp
Some slightly more traditional types for you to chew on here, Barebells keep it simple and classy even with their packaging, having said that they’re packed full of flavour, I’ve been known to enjoy a Double Bite Caramel Crisp every now and then and it doesn’t disappoint. Averages out at around 20g of protein and 200 ish calories, very good for macros!
1 – Chocolate Hazelnut Whip
2 – Peanut and Caramel
3 – Chocolate Caramel
4 – Chocolate Salted Caramel
So if you don’t like caramel, maybe try the hazelnut whip or go elsewhere! Very caramel-focused over at Fulfil , so if you do like it, then you’re in luck!! 20g of protein and 200 calories or somewhere around that, good macros. Don’t write these bars off!
PHD – Smart Bar range
1 – Birthday Cake
2 – White Chocolate Blondie
3 – Salted Fudge Brownie
4 – Dark Choc Raspberry
5 – Plant – Vanilla Fudge
6 – Plant – Peanut Butter and Jelly
Peanut Butter and Jelly?! Yes absolutely, I’m here for it…plant-based too which is good to see! PHD is obviously an OG in the sports nutrition game and so you know you’ll be getting a quality product. Around 21g of protein and 240 calories so not drastically different to a lot of the other ranges here.
Optimum Nutrition
1 – Whipped Bar Chocolate Caramel
2 – Whipped Bar Chocolate Peanut
3 – Crisp Bar Marshmallow
4 – Crisp Chocolate Brownie
5 – Crisp Peanut Butter
A couple of different ‘types’ of bars here, the whipped and the crisp, I’m very interested in both, that marshmallow is calling to me. Like PHD, Optimum Nutrition has been in the game for a while so it’s no surprise that they have good reviews. Again if you want to know you’re eating good, go with these…20g protein and 200 calories or around there, it’s not out of the ordinary, but it’s good!!
ASDA Sports Nutrition
1 – Cherry Yoghurt
2 – Cookies and Cream
3 – Peanut and Caramel
Of course, own brand, don’t turn your nose up just yet because these have good macros – they range from around 19 – 29g of protein and the usual 230 ish calories. The cookies and cream hitting a whopping 29g of protein!
There are many options you could consider when shopping for protein bars at ASDA and maybe you could try a bunch! I’m a Barebells man but I have delved into many of the other brands and don’t hate them at all. Have a look at some reviews, try them yourself and let me know what you think, I’d be interested to know if you dislike ‘salted’ chocolate as much as I…enjoy!!

Tales From The Minority
Review: phd smart bar.
Another day, another protein bar – it’s like there’s a never-ending supply of these things (and would be, if I tested every flavour). Part of the problem is – I think – the huge slippage of terminology amongst different makers; sometimes a protein bar has lower protein than an energy bar and so on. Ah, ignore the ramble; I’m just looking at the ‘Smart’ name in this product. Plus, I’m rather rubbish at opening paragraphs for posts.
Well, what do I see in front of me? A relatively long, thin bar; this being some ~25% longer than most other protein bars. The design pretty similar to the rest of the PhD range; a bit austere, vaguely scientific feel about it. Has a circle of ‘flowing chocolate’ on the front where the flavour is announced; this reminds me strongly of the design on the MaxiMuscle bars to the point I’m sure it’s not coincidence (and no, they are not both made by the same maker).
Normal claims about protein and the low sugars (hmm, maltitol again?). New thing is ‘impact carbs’, which from a quick internet search is just another name for ‘high glycaemic index’ substances; basically easily digestible sugars which ‘impact’ your body quickly. Also has no palm oil, which I’m currently unsure whether this is a bad, good or indifferent thing.
The package opens with a bit of difficulty, though I win in the end. First scent; milk chocolate and caramel. Looks on the other side rather like the SIS bar I had yesterday ; something not surprising due to the fact they’re made by the same company. Breaks okay; I can see the core of caramel, the ‘coating’ of the (I assume) protein clusters and then finally the layer of chocolate. Credit where it’s due; this product is pretty stable. Bites well, not too hard to chew. However, a few flakes do break off while eating. Tastes… decently nice. My taste-buds are now sharp enough to provisionally ID the sweetner as sorbitol, rather than maltitol (correct). A bit chemically, yes; but not overly so.
Nutritionally, it’s a ‘pure protein bar’; but a pretty poor one; no fibre, too much salt and saturated fat. Simply put, the only advantage here is that it’s low on the sugars but does not use maltitol. A fact which I personally are not hugely worried about here; suspecting that much of the reasons folks go for ‘low sugar’ is the misplaced belief that this also means ‘low calorie’.
So, in conclusion; this bar is only worth buying if the two options is this or something Obviously Crap. Or if you really like the taste. Or get a load really cheap…

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).
Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.
Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).
Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).
UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.
Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
