The Invention of the Kodak Camera: a Revolutionary Moment in Photography

This essay is about the invention of the Kodak camera in 1888 by George Eastman and its transformative impact on photography. The Kodak camera simplified photography making it accessible to the general public with its easy-to-use design and convenient roll film. Priced at $25 the camera allowed amateur photographers to take 100 exposures and then send the camera back to Kodak for developing and reloading. This innovation democratized photography enabling people from all walks of life to document their lives and the world around them. The essay also highlights the broader societal impact of the Kodak camera including its role in photojournalism and Eastman’s contributions to the photographic industry and philanthropy.

How it works

The Kodak camera changed photography forever. Back in 1888 George Eastman a real thinker and doer came up with this game-changer. Before that snapping photos was a real hassle—needed lots of gear and skills. Eastman wanted to fix that so he made a camera that was easy as pie to use.

His first Kodak camera was like a little box with film inside good for 100 shots. After clicking away folks just sent it back to Kodak to develop the film print the pics and reload it.

Their slogan was simple: “You press the button we do the rest.” No more fuss with developing—anyone could take photos now.

When it hit shelves the Kodak camera cost $25 a pretty penny back then. But it was still affordable enough that regular folks could buy one and start snapping away. Its simple setup meant even newbies could get into photography. Suddenly taking pics of family trips and friends became a thing everyone could do. Photography went from fancy to everyday hobby in no time.

Eastman’s invention wasn’t just about making things easier. It also pushed photography forward big time. Using roll film instead of clunky glass plates was a huge upgrade. Roll film was easier to use and let camera makers come up with even better designs. Eastman Kodak kept at it making more cameras and films for all kinds of picture-takers from newbies to pros.

The impact of the Kodak camera went beyond just family albums. It helped journalists too. Reporters could now grab shots of events as they happened making news stories more real and powerful. Being able to quickly snap and share pics changed how we saw the world blending tech with storytelling like never before.

Eastman wasn’t just a tech whiz. He also built a company that cared about quality and keeping customers happy. Eastman Kodak became a big name in photography setting standards that lasted for ages. His work didn’t stop there—Eastman gave back too helping out in schools and healthcare showing how success could make life better for everyone.

In the end George Eastman’s Kodak camera rocked the world of photography in 1888. By making it easy and affordable he let everyone capture life’s moments. This invention didn’t just improve cameras—it changed how we see and remember the world around us. The Kodak camera’s legacy lives on proof that a little innovation can make a big difference in everyday life.

Class++ [Beta v1.3] | Classes and OOP made easy and powerful with Access Specifiers, function overloading and more!

github_v2

Latest Update:

Greetings! Today I wanted to show you a resource I have been working for a while: Class++

What is Class++?

Class++ is a module that aims to bring a class structure very similar to in languages such as C++ and Java. It brings access modifiers, function and operator overloading, inheritation, and many other concepts to Luau.

Why Class++?

It makes it so much easier to create classes, rather than focusing on figuring out how to use metatables just to be able to create a class system, you can just focus on what to add and overload in your class.

Usage Examples

Classic way:.

To learn more about the usage and the syntax, you can visit the tutorial page .

Creates a new class with the given classData table.

Parameters:

  • className : string The class name for the new class .
  • classData : table The classData table that contains the data about the new class.

Returns the class with the given className , if it exists.

  • className : string The name of the desired class .

To see all the methods and properties in the API, you can visit the API Reference page.

This module is in Beta, it would be greatly appreciated if you could report any bugs you find on GitHub.

Not a bad implementation, but i will say it again and again. MiddleClass on github is the standard, and so far I’ve just not found anything better.

I took a look at your source, not bad but some of the code is not greatly comprehensible. Which is ok, you may be doing some really fancy things I am not so privy too. That being said, please comment the code, in many cases, someone might like your initial implementation but may need to tune it to cater to their needs and especially since Typed Luau is more advanced than most, it makes it considerably harder to understand what is going on.

That all being said, I will give it a look eventually down the line more practically.

One thing I have really noticed with many coders on this platform that are on the more skilled side that moved over to using VS coding and not coding directly with roblox, which is fine, tend to forget all the things that VS does automagically that roblox does not, and there are some people who don’t use that method of working to reduce issues. Just be aware of how you package and give out code and how you want to present it, the easier you make it the more people will want to use it. The more you make it readable and so even someone below your skill could come in and make edits or reasonable adjustments to fit their needs the better and more widespread it could be used.

If you are making things for others, think about the end user working with it.

Again, it looks pretty solid from my general review but just some tips on how you could get more widespread use on it.

Thank you! I was really looking forward to opinions like these.

Now to answer your concerns, if you’ve noticed in the init.luau file on the repo, I already tried adding some comments and even added the upcoming local documentation feature as a small test on top of the class method. So yes, more comments and explanations are coming soon in the source code.

Besides that, for the sole reason of explaining things better and making things easier for other developers, I’ve created a documentation page , so developers won’t have to figure out everything on their own, and I’ve pretty much documented everything in there.

Also, right now I’m working on making a model to upload to Creator Store, so developers can easily get the model without going through GitHub. (Although it would be better for them in that case since updates and important changes are going to be documented there.)

Yup I hear you! And I will be open with you that I am biased when it comes to typed lua. I am not exactly sold on it just yet, but I will come around slowly I am sure.

And it’s good, def give middle-class a look though, its got literally every feature you could ask for out of a class implementation.

That being said I will keep my eye out and you can message me when i can review it better with comments there.

I’ve gave it a look, and it looks pretty nice, although my mission is to create an advanced class architecture with most of the features that are present in other languages.

For example, C++ was my main inspiration, the syntax is not hard to understand, it has many features such as function overloading, operator overloading, access specifiers, inheritation, and more. I even took some features from Java, like the final and abstract non-access specifiers. I took all of these features and decided to implement them in Luau, with the syntax very close to C++ so it’s easily understandable and easier to work with.

Originally, Class++ wasn’t written in full Typed Luau, but I decided to give it a shot, along with the native mode, and it significantly improved the performance. Especially with native, the interpreter gets used less, and the compiler does the job.

And good news, in the future I heard there will be a new type solver, which will improve the performance and the Typed Luau experience even further.

It will be interesting to see how it goes, atm typed and untyped don’t really do anything different from what I have read, but please point to the documentation if they have changed that recently!!

Typed lua is transpiled into base lua as of what I remember reading but perhaps that’s changed and that would be huge if they were doing that long term. Yea, native is really nice bit of a heavy memory cost but in highly computation heavy areas its Def worth the cost for sure!

For real, if they are skipping the transpiled aspect I would be really interested to know.

image

I don’t know if such a feature would even be possible. typeof(setmetatable({}, T)) ? But congrats! this resource is really interesting!

Do you mean automatic typechecking for the class members? Trust me, I really tried. I don’t think it’s possible. Especially in this system where the classData properties are being transferred through several functions.

Though you have one solution: Since objects belong to the base type userdata , you can easily cast a custom type to them, and they will work perfectly fine!

Also, thank you!

Updated the links to include creator store!

Is this for object oriented programming?

Yes, this module aims to make OOP much easier for new and old developers! I’m open to feedback by the way, make sure to send feature requests and bug reports if you have any!

Release 1.1.0

  • Improved performance while creating new objects, it should be quite faster to create them now.
  • Other performance improvements.
  • Added more comments and explanations on how certain functions work, and added support for an upcoming Studio documentation feature.

image

Also I added a new creator store link to make getting the module easier, make sure to check it out!

Updated the documentation with some new features and fixes, and updated the main post with a comparision.

can i do it like this?

Oh no, that would give an invalid access specifier error. Members must always be placed inside access specifiers. Try putting the function inside an access specifier, for example, Public like below:

Check out the documentation for more information access specifiers! You should read the entire thing through, it would be very useful.

Release Beta 1.2.0

  • Improved performance on accessing an object ’s Private and Protected access specifiers.
  • Updated the final and abstract functions to now accept multiple classes with a new syntax .
  • Util.inClassScope function now accepts a new optional defaultLevel value that determines the default call stack level the function will start doing the checks on.

image

Release Beta 1.3.0

  • Improved performance when creating and accessing an object .
  • Updated the API Reference and Tutorial documentation to include a new feature: static members.

Introducing a new function:

  • Classes can now have static members using this function, just like in Java and C++, they belong to the class, and will not replicate to the objects created from the class.
  • They’re global, and will be the same everywhere.
  • You can access the static members through the class object like: class.<memberName>.property or class.<memberName>.p for short.

Check out the documentation for more info!

Shaili Contractor

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Mother’ for Class 2

10-lines on ‘my mother’ for class 2, short essay on ‘my mother’ for class 2, long essay on ‘my mother’ for class 2, what your second grader will learn from the essay.

Essay writing is very important for a child as it helps them express their thoughts and feelings on the topic. If one were to talk about the tasks that perfectly allows children to combine creativity, sentence construction, and ideas into a singular concept, writing essays could be considered one of the best. In this regard, essay writing is an important skill for young kids. And what can be better than writing about one’s mother, the most special person for any child? A mother showers her child with unconditional love. She is the one the child develops the strongest bond with. Thus, writing an essay on ‘My Mother’ is not only easy but also enjoyable for children. Through this article, we can help your second grader write an excellent essay on ‘My Mother’. Let’s get started then!

Having some pointers can help children write better essays that properly convey their feelings and intentions. Here are some of them:

  • Mention your mother’s name.
  • Talk about her daily schedule and how much she means to you.
  • Make sure you use simple sentences to make the essay easy to write and understand.
  • Add some personal anecdotes to add a personal touch and express your bond with your mother.
  • You can write in small sentences to frame ideas and then join them and form your essay.

Writing a few points can help children get a clear idea of what they can elaborate on in the essay and how they want to structure it. These ten lines can help you understand how to form these ideas:

  • My mother’s name is Karuna.
  • She is a homemaker.
  • Everyone respects her and loves her.
  • I love her a lot.
  • She takes so much care of Tommy, our pet, and me.
  • She takes care of the house.
  • She cooks tasty food for us.
  • She helps me with my studies.
  • When Tommy and I are playing, she plays with us.
  • She is the best mom in the world.

Children love their mothers the most, and an essay can be the perfect way to help them express this love. Here is an example:

My mother is a very good person. She takes care of me, and she also takes care of Tommy, our pet. She cares for everyone in the house and keeps the house clean. She loves gardening and has planted many plants in our small balcony garden. Some plants have only leaves, and some plants have beautiful flowers. My mother teaches me to be kind, helpful and honest with everyone. Due to these qualities, I admire my mother a lot and am proud of her. She is definitely my role model, and I aspire to be a good human being like her when I grow up.

The bond between a mother and her child is unique, and there is no relationship like that in the world. Here is an example of a long composition on the topic:

My mother’s name is Karuna, and she is a homemaker. She is the most beautiful person in the whole world, and I love her a lot. She takes care of me and Tommy, my furry best friend. She is great at taking care of everyone in the house, and she always keeps the house clean.

She has planted many plants in the garden. Some plants have only leaves, and some plants have beautiful flowers. And because of her hobby, I have come to love them as well. Last month, I sowed a seed in a pot along with her. A tiny plant grew from that seed, and now I can understand why she loves gardening so much. I also help her water the plants.

My mother teaches me to keep my things in place and throw waste in the waste paper basket. She wakes up early and makes tiffin for my father and me. When I return from school, she surprises me with my favourite snacks. In the afternoon, she takes me to the park nearby. I play there with other kids. Sometimes, when I fall on the ground, my mother tells me that it’s alright and I am a brave child. She helps me with my homework, and all of us have our dinner together. Our day together ends when bedtime strikes, and my mother tucks me in bed and reads beautiful stories in her beautiful voice.

Weekends are always special days for my mother and me. We do fun things together. One of our favourite activities is watching Tom and Jerry. I look forward to it every week. My mother also volunteers to feed the dogs in our neighbourhood every weekend. She often tells me that we should help everyone, especially the poor and helpless animals. So, I accompany her to feed the dogs, and when I grow up, I want to continue doing what she has taught me. My mother is my role model, and I love her for being the person she is. I have made a promise to myself that when I grow up, I will become like her one day and do my best to help others.

‘My Sister’:

My name is Aparna Chauhan. I have an older sister. Her name is Apoorva Chauhan. She is just three years older than me. We both go to the same school. I study in UKG while my sister studies in Class 2.

She is very good at studies and painting as well. She wins the annual painting competition in the school every year. She also won the second prize in the sit and draw competition which was held in our society last month.

We spend a lot of time together. We got to school together. We have lunch and play together. After coming home, we eat tiffin and then play in the park. Then we come back home and finish our homework. After that, we watch television and also spend time with our parents, grandparents before dinner.

I call my sister ‘diya’. She is very polite and well behaved. She helps my grandma in gardening. She reads me storybooks.

She is good at studies and intelligent as well. She takes part in quiz competitions, dancing, recitations as well. We go to the same dance classes to learn classical dance.

Jared Golden represents Maine’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

After the first presidential debate , lots of Democrats are panicking  about whether President Joe Biden should step down as the party’s nominee. Biden’s poor performance in the debate was not a surprise. It also didn’t rattle me as it has others, because the outcome of this election has been clear to me for months: While I don’t plan to vote for him, Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that.

There are winners and losers in every election. Democrats’ post-debate hand-wringing is based on the idea that a Trump victory is not just a political loss, but a unique threat to our democracy. I reject the premise. Unlike Biden and many others, I refuse to participate in a campaign to scare voters with the idea that Trump will end our democratic system.

This Independence Day marks our nation’s 248th birthday. In that time, American democracy has withstood civil war, world wars, acts of terrorism and technological and societal changes that would make the Founders’ head spin.

Pearl-clutching about a Trump victory ignores the strength of our democracy. Jan. 6, 2021, was a dark day. But Americans stood strong. Hundreds of police officers protected the democratic process against thousands who tried to use violence to upend it. Judges and state election officials upheld our election laws. Members of Congress, including leaders from both parties, certified the election results.

They all are joined in the defense of democracy by the millions of us who, like me, made an oath of allegiance to the United States and to the Constitution when we began our military service, plus hundreds of millions of freedom-loving Americans who won’t let anyone take away our constitutional rights as citizens of the greatest democracy in history.

This election is about the economy, not democracy. And when it comes to our economy, our Congress matters far more than who occupies the White House.

The prospect of a Donald Trump win is cause for alarm, not acquiescence

Some of Congress’ best work in recent years has happened in spite of the president, not because of him. A handful of responsible Democrats, including myself and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, rejected  Biden’s bloated “Build Back Better” bill and instead passed a law that supercharged American energy production, saved Medicare billions of dollars and reduced the deficit. Years earlier, Congress stood up to the GOP establishment who tried to hijack Trump’s agenda to achieve their long-held goal of repealing the Affordable Care Act . Defeating them saved health coverage for tens of millions of Americans and protections for people with preexisting conditions.

It was Congress that wrote and passed the CHIPS Act  and the Inflation Reduction Act  to bring back manufacturing so we can once again be a nation of producers, not just consumers. We wrote laws to unleash American energy by tapping domestic natural resources — oil and gas, biomass, the sun and wind — as well as nuclear power to ensure a steady supply of affordable, reliable energy. And we passed an infrastructure law  that’s already building and improving roads, bridges and ports.

In 2025, I believe Trump is going to be in the White House. Maine’s representatives will need to work with him when it benefits Mainers, hold him accountable when it does not and work independently across the aisle no matter what.

Congress will need to stand up to economic elites and so-called experts in both parties who are already working overtime to stop Trump’s proposed trade policies that would reverse the harms of globalization and protect American businesses from unfair foreign competition. We need to protect from extremists the law I helped pass  that caps seniors’ insulin costs at $35 and forces Big Pharma to negotiate and lower the cost of prescription drugs.

Perhaps more importantly, members must stand up to the GOP old-guard who will use a Trump presidency as cover for handouts to the wealthy and powerful at the cost of America’s working families and communities.

We must stabilize Medicare and Social Security, without cuts for seniors. We must guarantee women’s reproductive rights. And Congress must be ready to once again protect the ACA and to end huge tax breaks for the wealthy and for multinational corporations.

I urge everyone — voters, elected officials, the media, and all citizens — to ignore the chattering class’s scare tactics and political pipedreams. We don’t need party insiders in smoke-filled back rooms to save us. We can defend our democracy without them.

My focus is on representing the people of Maine’s Second Congressional District and working for the common good of all Americans. This Independence Day, we should reflect on the history and strength of our great democracy, safe in the knowledge that no one man is strong enough to take it away from us.
