The 245-room hotel boasts modern-appointed guest rooms and suites; a sun-filled rooftop pool with tropical views and a poolside bar; two on-site restaurants, Mamey and Orno, both led by Food & Wine Best Chef of 2020 winner and James Beard nominee Niven Patel; and 20,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting and event space. THesis Hotel Miami Debuts in Coral Gables

THesis Hotel Miami - the first property in the new THesis Hotels brand - opened its door in Coral Gables.

The 245-room hotel, which is set across the street from the University of Miami, features sweeping views that extend to Biscayne Bay. It offers a range of guestrooms and suites, including a 1,150-square-foot presidential suite with a state-of-the-art kitchen, dining and living room and master suite.

The property's farm-to-table culinary offerings are being spearheaded by Niven Patel, Food & Wine magazine's Best New Chefs of 2020 and double James Beard Award nominee.

Mamey, whose menu is inspired by the cuisine of the Caribbean, Polynesia and Thailand, features a cocktail program by Bar Lab.

Orno, which is set to open in early 2021, is a New American restaurant focused on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

To work toward ensuring the health and safety of its guests, the property's owner, Nolan Reynolds International, partnered with Dr. Franklyn G. Prendergast, a physician and scientist specializing in infectious diseases to oversee and overhaul health and safety at the hotel and all NRI properties.

THesis Miami is close to the Metrorail, the Underline, and the Coconut Grove trolley, as well as attractions in the Coral Gables neighborhood.

The cineplex air conditioner may be helping theatergoers battle the summer heat, but the films themselves are stirring up a certain fire within.

Through its ups and downs, one of the prevailing trends of 2024 films has been a concentration on palpable chemistry between co-stars, leading to some of the hottest scenes in recent memory — and we’re only halfway through the year.

Whatever is in the ether, be it the rejection of the sexless blockbuster superhero genre that began to fall into autopilot, or backlash to an increasingly puritanical young audience that asks for the thesis of every scene depicting physical touch, or even just a rediscovery of what movie stars are supposed to be, many films this year have been able to tap into what audiences have begun to covet.

While we really do welcome a well-staged sex scene, it has been impressive to see how some modern filmmakers have been able to turn a no-holds-barred tennis match, a Notes app exchange, or even a simple character introduction into a sequence that elicits desire from those who watch these films.

Below, IndieWire lists the sexiest films of the year so far, many of which happen to also be our list of the 20 best films of 2024 (so far), and pinpoint the moment in each selection that got our hearts pumping, pupils dilating, blood rushing, leading to an all around satisfying time at the cinema.

“The Bikeriders”

Haters will say the latest Jeff Nichols film is without plot, but real ones know that the long-awaited Focus Features release is a near two hour meditation on the allure of 1960s motorcycle culture. While the leather and revved engines are par for the course, the real discovery to pick up on is the dynamic between leads Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy—a love triangle of sorts that veers into unexpected directions.

Sexiest Scene: No moment sells the premise of a lifetime with Butler’s character Benny being the most desirable thing in the world better than the scene where he first meets Comer’s Kathy. The actress herself shared with IndieWire that Butler initially sauntered his way over to her in a normal fashion, but then Hardy made a key adjustment. “Tom was facing us from behind the camera. And he shouted over to ask them to spin his chair around,” she said. “‘OK.’ And then Austin spins and leant over the chair. That’s now one of the most iconic images from the film.” —Marcus Jones

“Challengers”

After having to wait an extra year on the edge of our seats in order to see the film, director Luca Guadagnino provided a much welcome release. Centered on a longstanding love triangle between three young tennis pros played by Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist, the sports drama written by newcomer Justin Kuritzkes was a theatrical experience one could feel in their bones—much in part to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s propulsive, Dionysian electro-disco score. It definitely isn’t the first film to draw comparisons between love and tennis, but it is the one that does the most convincing for why a viewer would find passion in the sport.

Sexiest Scene: The cast and director have all been quoted throughout the film’s promotional run saying “tennis is the sex” in their film, so despite a bedroom scene that pulls all three stars together, and another spa scene where steam literally ripples off O’Connor and Faist’s bodies, it seems most fitting to say the climax on the court is what arouses the greatest thrill. —MJ

“Drive-Away Dolls”

Dripping with old school cool but jangling with the goofy edges needed for a road trip comedy set in the summer of ‘99, “Drive-Away Dolls” finds most of its sexiness in the familiarity of a female friendship turning into romance. Sure, there’s the masc Margaret Qualley of it all (and that goes a long, long way) — but it’s the fast-talking Geraldine Viswanathan and the pair’s crackling verbal chemistry that makes for a romance worth remembering at bed…and bath…time. Marian and Jamie’s journey as outlaws is peppered with plenty of hot tableaus, including a sporty basement make-out party that’s a little “Bottoms”-esque. Jocks aside, it’s the starring duo’s magnetic connection that makes Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke’s lezzie period piece a proper turn on from start to finish.

Sexiest Scene: If as Jamie says, “Love is a sleigh ride to Hell,” then it’s the burning-hot psychedelic secrets in that damn briefcase keeping the underworld’s demonic engines running. When it’s finally revealed what our leading ladies accidentally have in their trunk (SPOILER ALERT: a briefcase full of famous men’s replicated dicks), Miley Cyrus’ repeat cameo as an homage to the real-world rock legend Cynthia Plaster Caster is made all the sexier. Famous for creating molds of celebrity body parts, Cynthia once famously replicated Jimi Hendrix’s erect penis as reflected in the dream sequences’ trippy, tie-dye sheen. —Alison Foreman

“The Fall Guy”

The most ridiculous thing about “The Fall Guy” is not that a stuntman is also capable of taking down mobsters and leaping onto helicopters but that it exists in a world where Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the biggest, best-looking movie star in the world and Ryan Gosling is his faceless stunt double. Gosling continues to make people blush even when he’s looking his silliest or disguising his figure with an alien head. But we’re very much here for his constant slow motion swagger, his disheveled blond mess of hair as he’s getting blown up or tortured, or even as he’s tearing up to Taylor Swift. 

Sexiest Scene: It’s hard to single out one Gosling moment, so we have to give a shout out to Emily Blunt letting it all hang out as she does her karaoke rendition of “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” by Phil Collins, making the song her own and looking cooler than all the would-be cool guys doing stunts throughout the movie. —Brian Welk

“Hit Man”

The power of fantasy is at the heart of Richard Linklater’s Netflix delight, as “Hit Man” follows the ( kinda, sorta ) true story of a seemingly regular dude (played by Glen Powell, who also wrote the film with long-time pal Linklater) who gets mixed up in the world of fake hitmen and just, well, sort of rolls with it. Powell’s Gary Johnson is the last person anyone would expect to even pretend to break the law – a mild-mannered college professor who spends his spare time fiddling with electronics and birdwatching – but when he’s drafted into service for the local police force, he finds that playing a fake hitman has some very real consequences. Top of mind: a steamy romance with a would-be client, played by the alluring Adria Arjona as Madison. 

Sexiest Scene: The red-hot chemistry between Powell and Arjona is on full display every single time these two mix and mingle on the screen, and while that includes plenty of actual sex scenes (something that, yes, contemporary adult entertainment is sorely missing), the film’s sexiest scene doesn’t include a single ripped button or breathless run to the bedroom (which, again, are also available in the film). Instead, the film’s sexiest scene is also its best, a whiz-bang back-and-forth in which Gary and Madison attempt to wiggle their way out of a very real murder, by way of – and stay with us here – a cunningly deployed iPhone Notes app. On paper, it might sound more zippy than hot, but Powell and Arjona are so appealing together that even when they’re fully clothed, their intense appeal is white-hot. Sexy should also be fun, and man, is “Hit Man” fun. —Kate Erbland

“The Idea of You”

Fantasy is also very much on offer in Michael Showalter’s steamy rom-com-dram “The Idea of You,” which adapts Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name into something rare: a truly grown-up romance that combines both movie-ready passion and some actual real-world worries. Slightly real-world. Showalter’s film, which he co-wrote with Jennifer Westfeldt, follows recent divorcee Solène (an absolutely dazzling Anne Hathaway) who is shocked to not only meet handsome boy bander Hayes (Nicholas Galitzine), but to forge an actual connection with the much-younger star. As the pair navigate their romance, they’re besieged by naysayers on all sides – from Solène’s douchey ex-husband to Hayes’ confused bandmates, the ravenous paparazzi to Solène’s daughter’s gossipy high school frenemies, and much more. How can these two hotties possibly ever make it work?  

Sexiest Scene: Well, their crackling sexual connection sure helps! But what’s most appealing about Solène and Hayes’ very sexy romance isn’t just the (many) lusty acts they perform with, around, and on each other, it’s how they make each other feel . While the pair’s first kiss – a frantic moment inside Solène’s charming LA home – is very hot indeed, it’s what happens after that really thrills. While Solène initially rebuffs her young suitor, when he beseeches her to come to New York City for a visit, she can’t resist. As Hathaway struts through an NYC hotel, knowing full well what’s about to happen once she reaches Hayes’ room, we see a woman in full command of her power and appeal (and loving every minute of it). And when Hayes opens his hotel room (and his heart!), he can barely contain his elation at playing even a small part in Solène’s pleasure. The pair don’t even have to take off their clothes to get each other off, or to signal to the audience just how special their sexy bond is. —KE

“Love Lies Bleeding”

You know what they say: Behind every magnetic masc managing an Albuquerque gym there’s a femme bodybuilder heading to Vegas with rage issues. In director Rose Glass’ hyperviolent sophomore effort, Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian will make you believe in love at first sight with the intoxicating chemistry they cook up between all-time hotness heavyweights Lou and Jackie. Our desert love birds, swept up in a storm of drug abuse, domestic abuse, and hair-trigger coffee table beatings, are easy to love when the action slows down. Of course, casting Stewart in just about anything is guaranteed to boost a project’s sex appeal by at least a few points. But when the androgynous actor is paired with O’Brian, the shapeshifter and her goddess of a love interest explode on almost every sexiness scale imaginable. Seriously, even in Jackie and Lou’s worst moments, you’ll be picking your jaw off the floor.

Sexiest Scene: One word: worm . Just kidding, you know it’s stretch . As far as queer authenticity goes, Glass left it all in the lezzie center ring when she gave Stewart the opportunity to explicitly describe the god-given act of fisting. Standing behind Jackie with her slender but still cut arm curled, Lou lustfully describes wanting to push her partner physically: “ I want to stretch you. I want to see how far you can go .” Understated and yet scorching, the line is said in a way that feels reflective not just of Lou’s intense appreciation for Jackie’s physical body and their intangible attachment, but also of her lover’s boiling competitive streak and Jackie’s deeply sexy desire to always, always be proving something . —AF

“National Anthem”

Writer/director Luke Gilford’s lush and horny queer Western “National Anthem” stars ahead-of-his-time actor Charlie Plummer as a repressed ranch hand undergoing a sexual awakening in New Mexico, and amid a community of queer rodeo performers who challenge typical expectations about cowboys and cowgirls. He falls in love with one mystical rodeo queen, Sky (Eve Lindley), who belongs to the head of the ranch, Pepe (Rene Rosado), and the movie derives its power from showing how first kisses, first sexual encounters, first times in drag onstage totally annihilate our sense of selves. Gilford shoots sex scenes with a dreamy affinity for how bodies entwined look in natural light, and how Dylan’s (Plummer) tiny world is blown open by sexual pleasure — and by the multiplicity of identities awaiting him outside his hardscrabble life. The actor commands your attention in more ways than one. 

Sexiest Scene: After a day of drug-taking off the ranch, Dylan gets his mind (and much more) blown in a twilit orgy involving Sky and Pepe. No sexual act is off the table in a sequence where Dylan’s repression up to now (I mean, the guy otherwise has to hide out in the wilderness just to jack off) gets explosively upended. —Ryan Lattanzio

“Road House”

All of the Post Malone cameos and streaming controversies in the world couldn’t change the fact that Doug Liman’s “Road House” reboot was, at its core, a throwback. The film unapologetically embraced the 1980s machismo that fueled its Patrick Swayze-led predecessor, eschewing logic and reason in favor of a nonsensical plot about a badass who takes every opportunity to beat the tar out of thugs and goons. And when star Jake Gyllenhaal stepped into Swayze’s shoes, he was more than ready to embody a throwback brand of manliness. Boasting a staggeringly ripped physique with more visible abs than anyone could count during the film’s run time. His Dalton makes no effort to show a sensitive side other than his comical expression of guilt about being too good at UFC fighting. Instead, his rippling muscles and stoic demeanor gave audiences more than enough to drool over for a crowd pleasing trip down memory lane. The film’s streaming success (and subsequent sequel announcement ) are proof that a man who can hold his own in a fight will never cease to be sexy.

Sexiest Scene: As tempted as we were to pick Conor McGregor’s introduction (in which he inexplicably walks down a street fully naked while making a phone call), the drawn-out final fight scene between the UFC icon and Gyllenhaal’s fictional UFC icon has enough blood, sweat, and homoeroticism to fill everyone’s fantasies while they wait years for a sequel.  —Christian Zilko

“Sebastian”

Finnish filmmaker Mikko Mäkelä spares no impulse in his second feature “Sebastian” to remind us of the twinky, adonis-like beauty of his star, newcomer Ruaridh Mollica. The actor plays a 25-year-old aspiring novelist in London who takes the chase for inspiration to its furthest event horizon: He’s writing a book about gay sex work, so why not embed himself in the practice? Max’s (Mollica) journey, and under the moniker of Sebastian, lands him in the cold rented hotel beds of older men, in the arms of ones his own age in nightclubs, and eventually into the arms and appreciation of a retired bon vivant (Jonathan Hyde). The sex scenes here careen from kinky and wild to sad and bloodless, as Mäkelä shows the whole range of the sexual spectrum for queer men in the 21st century. And the danger of getting too close to your own art. 

Sexiest Scene: “Sebastian” opens with a graphic scene of Max fucking a much older (and much heavier) john — not necessarily who you’d match with a lithe, 25-year-old twink. It’s a wildly sexy and unexpected scene, and a sudden jolt of an opening that introduces us to how confident Max is in bed while completely floundering in his real life. —RL

“Twisters”

“Twisters” is still making its way to theaters, but we’re here to tell you the storms in this film get a little hot and heavy. “Challengers” isn’t the only movie with a love triangle this year, as this movie has both Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos vying for the eye of Daisy Edgar-Jones. She of course only has eyes for giant funnel clouds in the sky and caressing dandelions to see where the wind is blowing. But after losing her boyfriend (played by “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande” breakout Daryl McCormack no less) in a tornado, she goes from a New Yorker wearing a conservative button down blouse to an Oklahoman rocking aviators, a red tank, and a slick holster for a camera that makes her look like she’s auditioning to be the next Lara Croft. 

Sexiest Scene: That Glen Powell is on this list twice is no accident. “Twisters” elevates him from handsome frat boy in “Top Gun” to a truly rugged Southern gentleman. The scene in question that made the LA premiere audience quite literally catcall and applaud was when Powell is leaving Edgar-Jones’ house in the pouring rain, wearing only a white t-shirt and cowboy hat, and director Lee Isaac Chung drinks in the close-up for just a little longer than he needs to.  —BW
