• Introduction

Lisa (리사) is a Thai rapper and singer under LLOUD and RCA Records. She is the maknae of the girl group BLACKPINK . Born in Bangkok, Thailand with the name Pranpriya Manoban (ปราณปริยา มโนบาล), Lisa always had a passion for dancing even when she was still at a very young age. This led her to join the dance crew "We Zaa Cool," of which GOT7 's Bambam was also a member. In 2010, Lisa participated in YG Entertainment's Thailand Audition where she ended up being the only one to be accepted. Through this, Lisa became an official YG trainee. After more than five years of training in Korea, Lisa was able to debut as a member of BLACKPINK on August 8, 2016 and went on to become one of the most famous female idols of her generation - and in K-Pop history. Lisa made her solo debut with the single album " Lalisa " on September 10, 2021. On Febuary 8th, 2024, it was announced that Lisa would be launching her own management company called " LLOUD ".

Blackpink’s Lisa on Her Big Ambitions — and Why Going Solo Made Her Nervous

L alisa Manobal was 14 when her life changed in an instant. In 2010, she attended an audition for YG Entertainment in her native Thailand — and became the only person to get accepted among 4,000 aspiring trainees. Soon after, she moved to Seoul, alone, without knowing a word of Korean (she’s now fluent), calling her mom in Bangkok every day.

Lisa has a knack for putting others at ease, laughing and joking easily, but onstage and onscreen, her eyes change: They’re alight with ferocity, as she raps, dances, and sings, an unfaltering symbol of the swag and confidence that’s Blackpink ’s calling card. Speaking in Korean and English, she talks about how she loves Blackpink but also has ambitions to try new things. Her 2021 solo single “Lalisa” is infused with a maximalist mix of rap, EDM, brass riffs, and even traditional Thai instruments. Another solo single, “Money,” dethroned Drake to take the top spot on  Billboard ’s Rap Digital Songs Sales chart. “I respect everyone’s roles within Blackpink,” she says. “I don’t want to break this image; I want to keep doing what I do within Blackpink. But personally, I have so many things I want to try. I love photography, I want to try acting, and more.”

You’re Blackpink’s main dancer and lead rapper, and you also sing. What are you bad at? Interviews! It’s so hard to express myself through language. Even in Thai. Like, when you ask, “Do you have anything to say to your fans?” In my head, there are so many things, but I don’t know which words to use. I’m completely confident expressing myself through my body, like, “Ohhh, my gawwwd, this is my stage!” But when it comes to speaking, it’s hard for me. I’m actually sweating now. So nervous.  

It makes sense that you’re fluent in Thai and Korean. How did you come to speak English so well? I don’t! I learned English at school in Thailand. I went to a full Thai school until sixth grade. Since middle school I went to a bilingual school — well, not bilingual; they had an English program where you learn every subject in English. I have a little Thai accent when I speak English, so people can tell, “Oh, you’re not from here.”

You took part in dance competitions as a child in Thailand. Is that what you wanted to do? What was your childhood dream? A stewardess! I once went to Singapore with my family. I saw the beautiful flight attendants on Singapore Airlines, wearing this uniform — a really long dress with sleeves down to the elbow, maybe purple fabric, with patterns. And this pretty unni [“older sister” in Korean] talked to me in English: “Do you want some milk?” And I was like, “Wow, yes please!” So as soon as we landed in Singapore, I begged my mom to buy me their uniform, which she did. But sadly, I didn’t meet the height requirements — you have to be tall enough to reach the overhead luggage.

And then you trained to become a dancer, with encouragement from your mom. I’ve been going to dance classes since I was five. I competed in all these dance competitions. My dad would just say, “Oh, you won? Nice!” And that was that — it’s a dad thing. My mom was my audience at home, when I danced to the dance CDs she bought. Turns out, her dream was to be an actor. So when I was little, she sent me to acting and dancing classes. I hated acting. I was a baby, trying to memorize lines, but I didn’t know how to read! How could I memorize lines? I was bullied by an oppa [“older brother” in Korean] in my class, because I couldn’t read. I was, like, four.  

You called your mom every day after you moved here to become a trainee. She’d say, “Don’t come back! Just hang on for another year!” There would be times when I’d say, “I just want to go back to school.” Our debut plans kept being pushed back and back, and I couldn’t see the end of this. “When was this going to end? Like, when?! Do we have to get tested every single month?” When I told her, “I want to quit,” my mom would say, “Think about your situation. How many kids want to be in your place? If you give up and come home, do you think you can have a normal life? You’re just going to try again. You’re here now, just hold on until the end.”  

More than a decade later, you’re one of K-pop’s biggest stars. How do the young YG trainees greet you? Do you give them advice? They bow, like, 90 degrees, “ Annyeonghaseyo! ” [formal “hello” in Korean]. There is a Thai trainee that reminds me of when I was young. I’m trying to take care of her. It’s not so much about giving advice. We eat together, go shopping. She’s 17 and has been here for nearly two years. I asked her once, “Is there anything you’re struggling with?” And she started to cry. “I want to dance like you, unni, but I’m so bad, and I’m so sad about that.” I just tell her, “Keep practicing!”

I can see why she looks up to you. When you appear in Blackpink videos, the screen lights up. But you also know how to play — how to not take yourself too seriously. You know, I’ve never thought about it like that. You’re the first one to say it in such detail. Normally, people just tell me, “You look great! You look cool!” When I’m shooting a music video, there’s so much to care about: pretty facial expressions, outfits, is my hair too messy? And so on. But I also have all these ideas that I imagine for my particular scene. Should I try this gesture? Or that? Sometimes it doesn’t work out the way I want. But I just do things. I just try. 

Many fans think of you as “Blackpink’s best dancer.” Do you sometimes want to break this image, or try different things? I respect everyone’s roles within Blackpink. I don’t want to break this image; I want to keep doing what I do within Blackpink. But personally, I have so many things I want to try. I love photography, I want to try acting, and more.

What are you curious about in music? Blackpink is trying different songs, but there’s still a lot we haven’t done. Reggae, even jazz, like you said before. Is hip-hop the only thing I’m good at? What if it turns out I’m also good at traditional Thai music? I’m curious to know how much I can expand what I do. Even within dance, there are so many genres I haven’t tried, like contemporary dance! Music-wise, dance-wise, I feel like I still have to learn more.  

Are there any artists or colleagues who make you jealous? Not so much jealousy — Rosalía is so cool. She has her own Spanish culture, that’s inside her person, that influences her music. When you see her, you think, “Oh, she’s Spanish.” And she uses her culture so well, making it into her own thing. In [my 2021 solo single] “Lalisa,” I wanted to create a Thai atmosphere.  

I just want people to know I’m Thai. Some people don’t know: “Oh, she’s part of a girl group from Korea, so maybe she’s Korean.” So I talked to our producer, Teddy, who put different Thai sounds into my music.  

What was it like to go solo, standing onstage alone? Nervous. Very nervous. Normally when the four of us are together — let’s say Chaeyoung [Rosé] gives her 100 percent. Then the rest of us can feel it onstage. And unconsciously I also get this energy of “Shoot, I need to do more too.” We boost each other in that way. But if I stand alone, it’s different. I can’t take energy from anybody. It just has to come from me. And the fans just watch only me. It was a huge burden. But what can you do? This is my solo! I just practice and monitor myself a lot.

Your producer, Teddy Park, is probably one of the most important people for Blackpink. How does he stimulate you musically? Oppa  knows how to speak to me, and I understand him. And then he pushes so hard. He’d say, “Again, again, again. A little more, a little prettier.” In the past, I used to only rap. One day, he told me to try vocals. But I’m so bad at singing. At least, there was a time when I was really bad. That whole year between “As If It’s Your Last” [2017] and “Ddu-du Ddu-du” [2018] was really rough for me. When I went to the studio to record, nothing came out. I cried. I felt like I was bringing the team down.  Oppa  pushed me hard. “You can’t? No. Try harder. Go back in there.” Because of Teddy, I overcame that time. I feel a little more confident about singing now.  

In Light Up the Sky, the 2020 Netflix documentary about Blackpink, you said, “I’m a role model in Thailand, but I don’t even know what kind of a musician I’ll be.” What did you mean by that? Whenever I go to Thailand, there’s this new generation of babies that all look up to me: “I want to be like Lisa, unni !” But when I look at myself, I am lacking in so many areas. There are so many things I don’t know because I’m still young. They look up to me as an idol, but I still don’t think I’m perfect enough to be their idol. Am I there yet? Am I ready? I’m actually really curious. In what ways am I an idol to those kids? I still feel I have a long way to go.  

You went back to Thailand recently for your birthday. How was it? It was the first time in three years. My mom and dad are getting old. Now we don’t have quarantine; it’s easier to travel. Whenever I have time, I want to return to Thailand. I don’t want to waste my time. I don’t want to say, “I don’t care what the company is gonna say!” But I want to see them as often as I can.  

What do you miss most about living with your family? I miss traveling together. My dad is Swiss, and he really values having a family day. We’d go to a mall together. And at least once or twice a year, we went traveling abroad together. I miss that so much. When Blackpink was doing the world tour, we did visit Europe together. That was so convenient because of packing. “Mom, come, please,” I’d say, and she’d just pack all my stuff. “Mom, take out my stuff, please,” and she’d unpack. It’s the best.  

You’ll be her baby forever. I actually asked her, “Mom, how old do you think I look?” She said, to her, I’ll always be five.

Do you still talk to your mom on the phone everyday? You mentioned in the past that she takes care of your finances. I talked to her this morning. It’s her birthday soon. I just asked her, “Where are you gonna go on your birthday?” And she doesn’t take care of my finances anymore! Since debut, I’ve been managing my own money. I buy whatever I want. The advantage to Mom managing my money was, there was always a limit to how much I could spend a month. But now that I’m alone … “Huh? Where did it go?”

It’s clear that family is the most important thing in your life. Who is the funniest? My dad has the typical middle-aged-man humor. Mom is really affectionate and cute. I love their dynamics together. Daddy is like, “Ugh, whatever,” while Mom goes, “ Ooooh , Daddy.” Just watching them makes me laugh.  

Have you ever wondered what will happen if Blackpink ends one day? I don’t think we’ve even talked about this amongst ourselves. We’ve jokingly said, “Jisoo unni is going to live in Hawaii. Lisa will return to Thailand,” but I don’t want to think about the end. It’s too sad. Someday we’ll get married and things like that. But then I see the Spice Girls, how they got together for a reunion concert. Can we do that too someday? Will I be able to dance then, like I do now? I mean, won’t Blackpink last at least 10 more years? We’ll be nearly 40 by then.  

Who will Lisa be in her forties? I don’t know. I’ll still have good vibes, doing different things, like now.  

What are you up to these days? We’re all going back and forth from the recording studio, or doing our own stuff, or going abroad because of fashion business. I’ve been working nonstop for the past week without a break. If I have a day off, I just stay at home. After this interview, I have nothing else scheduled today. I think I’ll go back to the house. . . . You know, in this interview, I wanted you to feel like my answers were coming from inside me, without a filter, as honestly as possible. I don’t have the prettiest words to tell you. I only have what’s inside me.

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa may have just begun touring globally, but a strong fanbase stretching far beyond South Korea is already powering their rapid ascent.

Blackpink’s song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” is currently the most-watched music video by a K-pop group on Youtube , boasting 730 million views. (Individual artist Psy’s 2012 single “Gangnam Style” continues to be the most-viewed music video by a Korean music act, with more than 3 billion views.) The group’s social media followings are also breaking records. Lisa, the group’s main dancer and youngest member, is the most-followed female K-pop artist on Instagram with more than 16 million followers.

Blackpink’s upcoming schedule is packed with international opportunities to connect with their fans, who are called “BLINKs,” a portmanteau of “black” and “pink.” Later this month, they will become the first female K-pop group to play at the Coachella music festival , before continuing the North American, European, and Australian legs of their first world tour.

How did Blackpink rise in popularity?

Blackpink officially debuted in 2016 with the single album Square One, which consisted of two songs — “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” The debut was highly anticipated in the K-pop scene as Blackpink was the first girl group to come from YG Entertainment, the major company home to powerhouse groups like BIGBANG and 2NE1, in seven years. “Boombayah” made the group the fastest musical act, at the time, to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart , and their success continued with additional releases in the following year.

In 2018, Blackpink received a new level of international attention when they became the highest-charting K-pop girl group on Billboard with the single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and the EP Square Up . “Ddu-Du Ddu Du” hit No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 — surpassing Wonder Girls’ English version of the song “Nobody” which peaked at No. 76 in 2009 — while Square Up hit No. 40 on the Billboard 200. “It’s A New Swag That Was Hidden Inside Me”: Blackpink’s Lisa Talks Vogue Through Her Solo Debut

Lisa (aka Lalisa Manobal) is a superstar. There’s her 59.9 million Instagram followers, her ambassadorships with Bulgari and Celine, her role as a dancer and rapper in Blackpink, and now there’s her solo debut, “Lalisa”, which has topped iTunes charts in 60 countries, and became the fastest track by a K-pop soloist to reach a staggering 100 million views, a feat achieved in a mere two days.

Was there ever any doubt that this would be a record-breaking release for the 24-year-old artist? From the moment Blackpink debuted with “Whistle” and “Boombayah” in the summer of 2016, Lisa had “it”. In the five years since, she’s only expanded on those qualities, and yet, for all her success and accolades, remains the hard-working, cat-loving Lalisa that the Blackpink fandom first fell in love with.

The balancing act is woven throughout her new single “Lalisa” – the first off her debut single album of the same name; not once does she relinquish the spotlight – such is the strength of her stage presence – despite the whirlwind of extravagant set and outfit switches, and she imbues the track with a combination of intimidating confidence and playfulness. “Want you to ring the alarm / Tell it to the world, kiss my name,” she demands, and, honestly, who are we to disobey?

Below, Lisa gives us the lowdown on what makes a cultural icon of our times tick.

The title of your single is your own name... What do you hope fans will learn about you as they listen?

I wanted to show you who I am through my first single and solo album. The title song “Lalisa” is also my real name, and it’s full of my confidence. I’ve often said to Blinks, “Always be confident,” and I wanted to deliver this message through this record. Both the title song and the B-track, “Money”, are songs that I really enjoy dancing and rapping to myself.

What did you discover about yourself when working as a soloist that surprised you?

While I was working on this song, I found out that I like not only melodic rap but also tight rap. I tried a tight rap in “Money”, and I really like this hip-hop style, which spits out fast with a strong beat. It’s a new swag that was hidden inside me. It’s probably the first time the fans have heard it, so I think it’s fun to compare how it’s different from the melodic rap.

The teasers were dark and dramatic – like the shot of you hanging from a chain wearing an incredible Alexandre Vauthier dress – but the video and its styling was vibrant and bold. What fuelled these contrasting ideas, and how involved were you in the concepts?

Through this album, I wanted to give back positivity and energy to all my fans. So this is why the teaser and everything contained that strong vibe!

What was the most strenuous, but also the most enjoyable, part of making your solo album?

There wasn’t anything particularly difficult. Unlike working with a group, I have to fill up the stage by myself this time. The performance lasts for three minutes, and it can shine only when you maintain your own energy and power. I therefore tried harder to manage my physical strength and health with the thought of, “If you’re going to do it, do it right!” I worked out every day and did Pilates steadily to keep in shape and gain strength. It definitely helped a lot.

How many songs did you listen to and demo before deciding these two tracks were the right sounds for you?

I didn’t choose just two songs from the beginning. I came out with two songs because I liked them the most. When I heard them for the first time, I thought they were mine!

You’ve become instantly recognisable across the world, and very much in demand – how do you ground yourself and keep a clear mind?

I always try to think positively. Even if I’m stressed out, I cheer up by looking at our cats and thinking about Blinks!

You’re known within fashion and music circles as a style icon, but what are you most comfortable wearing?

I usually wear cropped tops and sweatpants. It’s a perfect look to practice dancing in. And I also like vintage styles, as well as pretty necklaces and accessories.

Being a globally successful performer brings with it its own set of demands and pressures; how do you overcome any unwanted feelings that might creep into your mind?

I’m always happy with my lovely family and friends – my [real] family, who has always given me love and support, and my other family, the Blackpink members. And also my fans, Blinks! These are the people encouraging me to work harder every time.

Her exceptional talent has earned her several prestigious awards such as ‘New Artist of the Year’, ‘Bonsang Award’ at the ‘Seoul Music Awards’, ‘Best of Next Artist Award’ at the ‘Mnet Asian Music Awards’, and ‘World Rookie Award’ at the ‘Goan Chart Music Awards’. Even though she has achieved great success, Lisa often shares her longing for her parents and traditional Thai dishes. 

Childhood & Early Life  

Born on March 27, 1997, in Bangkok, Thailand, Lisa Manoban, also known as Pranpriya Manoban, later changed her name to Lalisa, following the advice of a spiritualist who believed it would bring her success. Prior to adopting her stage name, ‘Lisa,’ she was also known by various other nicknames such as Liz, Pokpak, and Thailand Princess. Lisa has an older sister who resides in Thailand. 

Lisa BLACKPINK developed a passion for music and dance at a young age and attended Praphamontree II School in Thailand. She joined a dance company with her childhood friend, BamBam, who went on to become a member of the South Korean boy band, ‘Got7.’ Lisa trained with the company for five years until 2016 and during this time, she had the opportunity to perform with other emerging artists such as MV Taeyang of ‘Big Bang,’ Bobby, and Mino of ‘YG Entertainment.’ 

Personal Life  

Lisa BLACKPINK is a devotee of Buddhism. She speaks fluent Thai, Korean, Japanese, and English, and is partial to western food and culture. During an interview, BLACKPINK Lisa told her fans that she is prohibited from dating, smoking, and drinking alcohol. Therefore, she is single and has no boyfriend as of now. 

Despite her busy schedule, Lisa has remained actively involved in charity work and has donated to various causes, including COVID-19 relief efforts and the Black Lives Matter movement. 

Before Making Debut with BLACKPINK

Lisa began dancing at a young age and later auditioned for YG Entertainment in Thailand, where she was selected as a trainee. She trained under the company for several years before making her debut with BLACKPINK in 2016.

Here's what to know about the four standout stars of the record-breaking K-pop girl group Blackpink

There's so much to know about the multitalented members of Blackpink : Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa.

Recognized as "the world's most popular girl group," the South Korean pop phenoms have created a global name for themselves since the debut of their first album Square One in August 2016.

Although the record only consisted of two songs, "Whistle" and "Boombayah," it was heavily promoted in the K-pop scene, as Blackpink was the first girl group in seven years from YG Entertainment — a famous K-pop training organization in South Korea that operates as a record label, talent agency and music production company.

In the years that followed, the group released one chart-topping single after another, such as "Ddu-du Ddu-du" off 2018's EP Square Up and "How You Like That" off 2020's LP The Album . The latter sold approximately 1.2 million copies in less than a month after its release, making Blackpink the first million-selling K-pop girl group .

According to Forbes , Blackpink "is in second place among all South Korean musical acts when looking at how many No. 1 smashes each figure has managed." (Leading the charge is the South Korean global sensation BTS .)

The K-pop girl group has not only cultivated a devoted fan following — "Blinks" (as their fans call themselves) fill arenas across the globe and attend their idols' appearances at blockbuster events including Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2019 — but they've caught the attention of music icons as well, having collaborated with stars like Lady Gaga , Cardi B and Selena Gomez .

From their early beginnings in the group to their major accomplishments since joining, keep scrolling for a breakdown of each member in Blackpink.

Jennie (whose full name is Kim Jennie) grew up in Seoul and New Zealand, before joining YG in 2010. Blackpink was formed in 2016 after an expansive audition search that crossed many countries, and Jennie was its first member.

"I was the first one on the team, and I got to watch everybody come in," Jennie (who is fluent in Korean, Japanese and English) told Elle in September 2020.

Jennie was a "trainee" just shy of six years , and has become the main rapper of Blackpink, although there's no official leader of the group.

Out of the four members of Blackpink, Jennie was the first to release a track on her own, "SOLO." While she's known for rapping, she contributes vocals to the group as well — a duality of skills that she showcases in the single, while further establishing herself as a fashion icon in its corresponding music video.

Despite the fame, Jennie seeks normalcy. "More than anyone, we want to be ordinary girls," she told Rolling Stone . "Sure, there are times when we talk about what kind of influence we could have. But what we actually love is talking about our cats, dogs, good food, and pretty places."

Lisa (whose full name is Lalisa Manobal) was the second member to join Blackpink and is the youngest of the group. She's the main dancer of the group, though she also raps and sings.

She was raised in Thailand, but left Bangkok in 2011 to train for five years before the group debuted hits "Whistle" and "Boombayah" in 2016. The training process was rigorous, with restrictions on dating, driving, and drinking — and for Lisa, at times was trying.

"When was this going to end? Like, when? Do we have to get tested every single month?" Lisa recalled her experience in a Rolling Stone interview. "I'd call my mom [in Thailand], wanting to quit, and she'd tell me to hang on just another year, just hang on."

Prior to her move to South Korea in 2011, Lisa didn't speak Korean. Now, she's fluent in it — in addition to Thai, English, Japanese, and basic Chinese. Similar to Jennie, Lisa also has an interest in fashion. She was named global brand ambassador of French luxury brand Celine, in addition to modeled.

"Being able to walk on the runway as a model myself was a great honor, as the Celine show is a dream stage for every model," Lisa told Billboard in September 2022. "I decided to participate when Celine asked me to, and it became an unforgettable experience."

Jisoo (whose full name is Kim Jisoo) was the third member to join Blackpink and is the eldest of the group. She's the lead vocalist and is considered an expert harmonizer.

Jisoo is the only member of Blackpink who was born and raised in South Korea. In fact, she grew up in Gunpo, a small city approximately 20 miles south of the YG headquarters. In August 2011, she became a trainee for five years before joining the group.

"It was hard for me to transition to [YG], where there were many rules. I had to grow a sense of patience and endurance," Jisoo told Rolling Stone of her experience as a trainee, especially coming from a family that was "more liberal."

Jisoo speaks Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Known as the group's mood-maker, her quick-witted and philosophical persona is often displayed during interviews.

Jisoo is the only member of Blackpink who hasn't released music independently, but she has displayed an interest in fashion, often attending global fashion weeks and partnering with major brands. She was named Dior's brand ambassador in March 2021.

Additionally, Jisoo is an actress: She starred on the JTBC historical K-drama series Snowdrop (also available to stream on Disney+ ), and has appeared in various commercials.

Rosé (whose real name is Park Chaeyoung) joined YG Entertainment in 2012, placing first among 700 contestants during an audition in Sydney. She's the main singer of Blackpink, known for her recognizable voice.

Rosé became a "trainee" at 15, which meant she left her parents to develop her pop career at YG full time — something she now recalls as difficult. "If I was going through a hard time, I'd go to the bathroom, sob my heart out , then on to the next thing," Rosé told Rolling Stone . "I was on autopilot or something. If you told me to do that again, I could never."

Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Rosé is fluent in English and Korean. In the beginning of her career, she leaned on her bandmates for help with the transition process. "I was born and raised in an English-speaking country, so [Jennie] helped me out with the cultural differences," Rosé recalled to Elle of her first introduction to pop star boot camp.

In addition to her distinct vocals (she's particularly recognized for hitting high notes), Rosé is a multi-instrumentalist, talented both on guitar and piano. In fact, the guitar she's known for playing during Blackpink performances is the same one she's played her whole life !

Rosé recently introduced herself as a solo artist , having released her debut album R in March 2021, which includes the lead single " On The Ground ." During a global press conference at the time of its release, Rosé said she "put [her] most honest self into the album" and used it as an opportunity to experiment vocally.

Music aside, Rosé is heavily involved in the fashion scene and has teamed up with brands like Yves Saint Laurent Beauté. She was also one of the first K-pop stars to attend the Met Gala, where she wore Saint Laurent and walked alongside its creative director Anthony Vaccarello .

Lisa of BLACKPINK turned heads on Sunday as she stopped in Monaco wearing a set that was made from completely recycled materials.

While being surrounded by yachts and the ultra-rich, Lisa — whose full name is Lalisa Manobal — opted for a cropped set that was both showstopping and sustainable . The pop star wore a custom outfit made of 80% upcycled water bottle caps and 20% clear food containers from the emerging Thai brand PIPATCHARA.

Lisa shared a series of photos of the outfit with her more than 103 million followers on Instagram while stopping by the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. Lisa paired the look with nude strappy heels and a Louis Vuitton mini bag. She captioned the post, “Pit stop in Monaco,” and showed off her pouty dark makeup and fringe.

The Bangkok-based brand PIPATCHARA was started by sisters Pipatchara and Jittrinee Kaeojinda, who wanted to create a community-focused, sustainable brand at a time when fast fashion is becoming an increasingly harmful practice. Not only has the brand dressed big names such as Anne Hathaway, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lupita Nyong'o, but they also work to teach their communities about sustainable practices and living.

Blackpink’s Lisa Wore A Crop Top & Skirt Set Made From Garbage

It’s not every day I see a person on a yacht and applaud them for calling attention to sustainability, but today is that day. Lisa from Blackpink just showcased an eco-friendly look to her Instagram following of more than 103 million. Posting photos from her “pit stop in Monaco” for Formula 1, she highlighted a new crop top and skirt set made from literal garbage.

The annual Monaco Grand Prix always draws a star-studded crowd , and Lisa was a part of the frenzy this year. Her photos showed some of her highlights, including a photo op with three-time World Drivers’ Championship winner Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing and a run-in with J Balvin at an exclusive after-party. Said after-party is where Lisa rocked her buzzworthy outfit .

Lisa’s Sustainable Crop Top And Skirt Set

The custom-made crop top and skirt set come from Pipatchara, a brand founded by Thai designer Pipatchara Kaeojinda in collaboration with her sister, Jittrinee. The brand aims to create wearable art from used plastic, and they accomplished it for Lisa. Her garments were made from 80% used water bottle lids and caps, along with 20% used clear food containers from local households, according to an Instagram post from the brand.

Kaeojinda further explained the intensive work that went into Lisa’s outfit in Thai. Google’s translation of her Instagram caption reveals that the team used natural colors, so they had to select their materials very carefully. “The team was meticulous in grading the colors of the outfit from light to dark,” the translation says. “To make the outfit shine at the after party, we used more than 1,800 pieces of trash.”

Lisa paired the set with classic high-heeled sandals that were a close color match for her skin tone, and she also carried a $2,600 Louis Vuitton Nano Speedy mini bag. Her only jewelry appeared to be a ring, and she left her hair down. Nothing called attention as much as her crop top and skirt.

Seeing the full look come together was special for Kaeojinda. “I have no words for this moment,” the designer wrote when she re-posted Lisa’s photos. “Thank you for this opportunity to see this custom-made piece specially for you! It’s an absolute honor for us @pipatchara We are truly appreciated and I believe all my team can feel this love and support. Today is like a dream for us.”
