Abstract Hospitals as organisations (whether for profit or not) are subject to the same processes of sustainability and strategic management partly as objects and victims but also as beneficiaries of sustainable business enterprises. Their position is locked within the national systems to supply the healthy human resources needed for sustainable development. No matter the time of day, hospital staff and physicians must be prepared for anything including the treatment of common colds to life-threatening diseases through to providing aid when emergency occurs such as disaster relief. Using the SERVQUAL model with the Kano model, this study aims to prioritize above all the use of various medical service technical items as an improvement directed towards hospitals’ competitiveness. With the outpatient services of a hospital as the empirical case study, we first collected the service requirements of the patients and classified them using the Kano model to decide the weights of each patient’s service requirements, then found out the different medical service technical items which the hospital provided to satisfy the service requirements. This paper identifies the main attributes in the healthcare as an empirics research subject for the purpose of patient satisfaction improvement. Practitioners in hospital management need to consider that the relationship between performance of attributes and patient satisfaction depends on the classification of attributes. This research also contributes to our understanding of the complexity of the healthcare service, and reveals shifts in categories over time and with patient and management experience. As competitive forces continue to pressure imitation and innovation, both in the ways a specific interactive attribute is executed as well as in the adding of new attributes, the hospital management must continuously monitor their service and patient satisfaction relationship in order to implement changes that will strengthen the relationship with hospital staff Keywords: Expectation, Perception, Service Quality Expectation, Hospitals, Integrated Model Approach

Abstract There is considerable evidence that the stress inherent in health care negatively impacts health care professionals. Stress in medical practice has always been a topical issue. This is partly because medical service involves taking care of other peoples' lives therefore mistakes or errors could be costly and sometimes irreversible. It is thus expected that the medical doctors, nurses and other medical staff must be in a perfect state of mind devoid of morbid worries and anxieties. Our study examines the relationships between six key organisational factors (demand, control, support, relationships, change, and role conditions) and stress among healthcare professional in a teaching hospital in Ghana. The UK Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Management Standards (MS) model of stress model was adopted and modified as our key measurement in our questionnaire. Data was collected from 453 healthcare professionals from a teaching hospital in Ghana. Three sequential steps of using linear regression analysis to identify the causes of stress among a spectrum of human resource personnel, selected from all the main departments of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital was outlined. Our study reveals that, all the six elements (demand factors, control factors, support factors, relationships factors, change factors and role factors) that have been analysed have significant impact on employees stress though, they do not impact on employees in the same measure. We noted that specialist physicians, general practitioners/family physicians, and registered nurses (excluding supervisors and head nurses) had a statistically elevated likelihood of work stress relative to other health care providers. We have provided policy direction to support stress management in healthcare settings such as the case of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Ghana. Key Words: Stress, healthcare personnel, demand factors, control factors, support factors, relationships factors, change factors, role factors

ABSTRACT AN INVESTIGATION INTO GHANAIAN PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS’ BELIEFS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION by Linda D. Caples The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 2019 Under the Supervision of Professor Barbara Daley, PhD There is a disconnect between the use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and the medical practice of Ghanaian primary care physicians in the care of hypertensive patients. This study sought to answer the question of how the formal and informal beliefs of Ghanaian primary care physicians influence clinical knowledge translation in the management of hypertension in adults. The process of clinical knowledge translation helps physicians construct knowledge along with interactions with other healthcare professionals, their patients, and the communities they serve. These interactions help inform a physician’s salient beliefs. Thus, the use of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) facilitated research into how background factors influenced behavioral, normative, and control beliefs and in turn, how those beliefs influenced intentions and ultimately, physician behavior. Findings in the form of six themes illustrate the importance of culture and context in shaping the beliefs of how primary care physicians saw their patients and how they translated clinical knowledge into medical practice. The background factors such as a physician’s gender, medical school training, clinical setting, health sector, specialty, and years in practice had some influence on beliefs. However, the patient population significantly influenced their beliefs particularly their interactions with patients within the culture and context of Ghana. Additionally, clinical knowledge translation is supported using continuing medication education (CME) as a primary channel of knowledge translation and as a means to educate physicians and other health care professionals about clinical practice guidelines. Incorporating culture and context into the development of CME content is important for effective clinical knowledge translation and improved patient care. This is particularly important in medically pluralistic societies such as Ghana, where primary care physicians are few and traditional medical practitioners are prevalent. Implications of this research may shape policy, future CME content development, and CME research.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE GHANA REGISTERED NURSES AND MIDWIVES ASSOCIATION AT ITS 16TH QUADRENNIAL NATIONAL DELEGATES CONGRESS HELD AT THE MENSVIC GRAND HOTEL, EAST LEGON, ACCRA

INTRODUCTION The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) held its 16th Quadrennial National Delegates Congress, the highest decision-making body of the Association, at the Mensvic Grand Hotel, East Legon, Accra from 20th to 25th November, 2023 under the theme, “Investing in Nursing and Midwifery, A Strategic Response to the Right to Health”. The Congress was attended by 309 delegates and over 150 Observers. The GRNMA is the Professional Association and Trade Union that holds the Collective Bargaining Certificate covering all nurses and midwives in Ghana and serves as the sole official mouthpiece of nurses and midwives in the country. Within the period of the Congress, a number of issues affecting the education, practice and general welfare of Ghanaian nurses and midwives were discussed. At the end of Congress, the General Assembly resolved as follows:

1. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR NURSES AND MIDWIVES The General Assembly noted with concern the non-implementation of the Book and Research Allowance for Nurse Educators instituted three years ago and the Rural Incentive Package developed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) with the involvement of the GRNMA and other partners and calls for their immediate implementation of same. The Assembly further noted that the expired Collective Agreement of nurses and midwives had not been renegotiated although the leadership of the GRNMA had submitted a proposal to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as at August 2023. The Assembly calls on the Employer and the FWSC, as a matter of urgency, to invite the association to begin negotiations on its conditions of service.

GHANA REGISTERED NURSES AND MIDWIVES’ ASSOCIATION

Unity is Strength Good evening ladies and gentlemen of the press and thank you for making time for this press conference despite the short notice. We called you here today to brief you on what has transpired so far following our last Press Conference on 23rd September 2020 when we called off our strike. The main objective is to have the content of this Press Conference reach our members all over Ghana. Having called off our strike and gone back to the negotiation table, we were able to use the period of four weeks as directed by the National Labour Commission to continue the negotiations and reach an agreement on 21st October 2020. The agreement was tabled at the NLC on 28th October 2020 as the Commission had directed but unfortunately, the document could not be signed because the signatories were not available. It was agreed that the parties will meet on Tuesday, 3rd November 2020, and sign the documents and that is what has been done today at the Ministry of Health (MOH). Ladies and gentlemen of the Press…

We are extremely grateful to each and every one of you for standing up to the occasion. Following series of negotiation meetings held with the Employer and the posture of same in the on-going negotiation on the conditions of service for nurses, Midwives, Physician Assistants, and Certified Registered Anaethetists, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) issued a communique on 4th September 2020 informing the general membership about the posture of the Employer contrary to the provisions 97 of the Labour Law 2003 (Act 651 ). A letter dated 9th September 2020 was also served on all stakeholders informing them about the status of the negotiation and the possible actions of the GRNMA and its Allied Associations (Ghana Physician Assistants Association and Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anesthetists).

Having reconvened in the meetings held on 15th and 16th September 2020 the posture of the Employer changed for the better but did not meet the expectation of the majority of Nurses, Midwives, Physician Assistants and Certified Registered Anaesthetists in Ghana. The GRNMA National Council in collaboration with its Allied Associations has discussed fully the report of the GRNMA/Allied negotiating team on the proposal of the Employer and has concluded as follows:

GHANA PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS ASSOCIATION

The definition of a nurse in the negotiation document presented to the above stakeholders includes: Staff Nurses, Community Health Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, and all other nurses. TWERKING ON SOCIAL MEDIA BY A NURSE

The attention of the leadership of GRNMA has been drawn to a video clip on Social Media, which projects a nurse twerking in her uniform.

It is not clear who this individual is, whether indeed she is a nurse and which health facility she works or it is just someone simply dressed in a Nurse’s uniform.

The GRNMA strongly disapproves of such behavior by Nurses and Midwives and regards the twerking in the professional uniform as unacceptable behavior and a disgrace to our noble profession. Such behaviors do not reflect the ethics and standards of our professions.

In view of the above, the President of the GRNMA, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, is directing all District and Regional Executives as well as the general membership to assist in the identification of the said nurse if indeed she is a nurse and provides the National PROs of any such information for the necessary actions to be taken.

The Nursing and Midwifery Professions are noble professions and as such all Nurses and Midwives in Ghana are advised to desist from such behaviors especially when in uniform in order to protect the dignity of the profession.

Steps to do Ministry of Health (MOH) clearance in Ghana

In this Article:

What is MOH clearance?

Official authorization for something to proceed or take place, The financial clearance is a form of authorization given to a Nurse in Ghana who has successfully completed an accredited public college known as Training College.

Why do clearance?

Clearance is necessary for Diploma nurses who want to leave the country for further education or in search of greener pastures. This is to certify that you are not owing to the government in any way.

Some Ghanaian trained Public nurses (Diploma) received allowances during their training and have to serve the government for a specific period of time called “bonding”

Also, Professionals (Diploma and Degree) who have taken study leave or support of any form from the government or their institutions have to obtain clearance from the ministry.

What do I do if I did not serve the government or my institution as agreed?

Clearance also known as “financial clearance” is given to both those who have fulfilled their obligations (served for the agreed duration) and to those who are yet to, thus bonded and those without bonding.

For those who have been bonded, the ministry will agree on the amount you may have to pay per annum for the number of years he/she is supposed to work, Unlike the bonded nurses, those who have not been bonded will not be required to make any payment (This depends on the decision by the Ministry of Health or your agency).

Enough of the grammar, let’s go straight forward to the steps to acquire clearance from the Ministry of Health, Ghana.

Requirements for MOH clearance

1. clearance form 2. Introductory letter duly signed for working staff or Completion letter from your Rotation facility for Nurses Awaiting Posting. 3. Passport Picture in uniform with white background

NOTE: All current Clearance forms are numbered (at the top right corner, starting with MOH/HRD…) and are registered on a form with the MOH, the contact of the buyer and receipt numbers are also noted, so photocopies will be detected.

Guidelines to apply for MOH clearance

Step 1 : Pay an amount of 100gh at the accounts department of the ministry and obtain an official receipt. Initially, the cost of the clearance form was 20gh but has been increased by the ministry. Proceed to the Human resource department (HRD) to collect your Form.

Nursing Abroad DD1893D7 ADB4 4457 B82F 527EAA3BAD4B

Make sure your form is endorsed at the back with the MOH stamp as indicated above.

Nursing Abroad clearance price e1648427414930

Step 2 : Fill out the form and submit it to the head of your previous school or college for further endorsement or Submit it to your HR or Head of the facility for endorsement with a duly signed introductory letter.

( whichever comes first but both are needed for working professionals whiles those awaiting posting should just attach a copy of their introductory letter from their former workplace (where they did their national service )

Please we would like to bring to your notice that the MOH has increased the price of the clearance form from 20 to 100 cedis and this change took effect last Friday.

Please kindly note that the other change is that you need clearance from the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) before NMC Ghana will do your foreign verification.

Another change is that once you’ve been cleared by the MOH, your endorsed clearance form will be sent to the NMC Ghana directly and then you follow up to make the necessary payments to the NMC for foreign verification. They will then give you a form to take to the GRNMA for clearance before the foreign verification is done. All this time, you should have already begun your registration with the UK NMC or the NMC of the country you need foreign verification or with CGFNS,  Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools for the USA, or With NNAS for Cannada.

You can as well reach the reception via 0548528454.
