Essay on Fashion

500+ words essay on fashion.

Fashion is one of the most talked-about industries in today’s world. Fashion can be defined as anything that becomes admirable among the masses. It is a popular aesthetic expression. Fashion is related to clothing, hairstyle, makeup, accessories, footwear and lifestyle. People want to distinguish their personalities from others with their style quotient. Like every new year, fashion also comes and goes. The latest fashion will be more fashionable and colourful than last year.

New trends in fashion influence people of all ages. There is a tremendous amount of competition between the industry and consumers. Different cultures and nationalities have different styles of fashion. Due to this reason, it is always fascinating to travel to various parts of the world to observe how people dress in those countries. Now, clothes have become one of the main reasons to express themselves instead of merely covering their body.

Different people need different styles and designs for their uniqueness and personality before wearing that specific fashion design. This essay will talk more about fashion history, importance and trends.

History of Fashion

Fashion is all about the history of people. For thousands of years, people have loved fashionable clothing. Clothes, from the early days of Egypt, have become our expression. We can see fashion worn in various civilisations throughout history, documents, drawings, and other archaeological findings. Eastern neighbours influenced clothes of different styles worn by the Greeks. Both males and females used to wear thick woollen long dresses.

During ancient times, Egyptians used to wear light cotton clothing, and Egyptian women wore long, ready-made clothes. Later on, the Romans dominated the most significant example of fashion and style.

When people started migrating to Europe, accordingly, the style changed. To keep themselves warm, women used to wear warm clothes and men plain and armour clothes.

Since there were not enough raw materials to produce new clothes for people who migrated to America in that era, dresses were ordered and sent to the oceans by ships to cope with the demand. Suits with leggings were men’s attire, and women wore long clothes and hats on their heads. Over time, the form of the dresses transferred from voluminous dresses into soft, frequent, high-waisted skirts.

Women’s skirts were shorter and thinner at the beginning of the century. Trousers of men slowly went from ankle to knee-length. During the World Wars, women’s style transformed into shorter skirts below the knee.

The ‘80s brought significant trends related to fashion and hairstyles for both genders. The transitional fashion period is from the sixties and seventies. During this time, women wearing trousers became acceptable.

From the 20th century to the 21st century, fashion change continued, and still today, it is evolving.

Fashion Trend

When we talk about influencing fashion, political influencers play a vital role. There are a lot of instances where politicians become fashion symbols, like Princess Diana and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Political revolutions also left a significant impact on fashion trends.

Technology is another significant factor that influences fashion. The fashion industry saw rapid growth in technology such as 3D printing technology, wearable technology, etc. The Internet also affects fashion trends.

People are influenced by their favourite stars, influencers, etc. The strongest influencers in the field of fashion are social media influencers. Young stars try to emulate the fashion styles of their loved celebrities. For example, hoodies came into fashion due to rap musicians. Television and movie stars also influence fashion trends.

It’s entirely up to you to be fashionable; it shouldn’t be forceful, and it is your own decision what you want to follow. Our fashion sense also reflects our culture. It makes our life colourful and adds variety to life, providing an opportunity to try out something new. Though this time of the 21st century in India, most people are influenced by the style of fashion, they have not forgotten our traditions and culture, which are the priority and symbol of our country.

Introduction

Fashion is a non-verbal way of communication that conveys a lot about the person’s personality, background and style. Earlier it was exclusively the world of the affluent, celebrities and royalty. However, fashion is now within the reach of the common man, especially the youth. Besides, dress fashion is an evolution of ideas, which begins as a fad, but in course of time gets accepted in society as a style, which could be in attire, behaviour or lifestyle. Fashion is mostly associated with glamour. It makes people feel confident and bold. People can express themselves openly. Today fashion is not limited to western countries; now, every country has come out with their fashion sense, not only the clothing but the accent of that country, the living style.

Vedantu experts have crafted an essay on fashion that covers its significance and how it reflects in your personality. This essay has promoted the thought perfectly that fashion is also about carrying yourself in society without having an attractive or trendy attire.  It is about being comfortable with yourself and not being a doppelganger of another person.

Why is Fashion Important?

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our life colourful and changes our life with time. In a way it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity in trying out something new. Fashion is not only limited to clothing or makeup but in a much broader sense includes accessories like shoes, perfume, hairstyle, mannerism, etiquette and attitude towards life. Fashion is not restricted to self-expression only but also a means of self-empowerment and confidence. It encompasses the total spectrum of human activity, which relates to a specific period. It is an outlook of life.

Fashion is how you carry yourself in society without wearing anything trendy. It is how you attempt to make yourself look flawless even without any make-up. It helps you in revealing your true identity.

Evolution of Fashion

The world of fashion is always evolving.  It is amazing to see how the different events in history have influenced and changed the way people dressed and looked throughout time. Thus long dresses, veiled headgear that was trends of the Victorian era, have been replaced with micro and mini dresses and the jeans culture associated with the modern era.

From the 1920s to the 1990s fashion just not changed in clothing but also in accessories, footwear and hairstyles. The trends of wearing hats, carrying purses, shoes and men wearing long ties and bows have been continuously changing with periods, occasions and culture.

Hairstyles also have been changing throughout time. Short boyish haircuts were popular during the 1920s to 1940s. Wigs were more popular in the 1960s and thereafter hairstyles kept changing from short to bob cut then to mid-back cut and now maintaining long hair.

Fashion Industry

As fashion evolved, the industry was formulated to manage the process for the consumers. The fashion world has given shape to a new industry, the ‘Fashion Industry’.

The fashion industry was created to design, manufacture and market clothes, footwear and accessories. Before creating the apparel industry, people made clothes for themselves. The mass production of clothing began in the mid-nineties when some creators began to make garments that did not require any fitting session with the tailors. The fashion industry in its true sense was established in the twentieth century when the neighbourhood tailors decided to become the manufacturing business.

Fashion impacting the Youth

The positive side of fashion is it enhances your life. It not only allows you to dress fashionably but also allows being independent in thinking and maintaining self-esteem. At the same time, fashion is negatively impacting the youth. It has taken up the life of the youth so much that the youngsters are highly obsessed with creating style statements at an age where they need to focus on their studies and other important aspects of life. The fashion trend has become a cult with today’s generation. They blindly try to imitate the models and celebrities without understanding the true essence of fashion.

FAQs on Fashion Essay

1. What is the core of fashion?

Fashion is not only about wearing trendy clothes or footwear. The core of fashion lies inside the person. Fashionable core comes active when you wear something with confidence to show your choices to the world. And that is the only thing to make fashion a trend from time to time. Vedantu experts, after a detailed study, have explained this stuff, and that’s what makes an essay on fashion a complete package to deliver to the audience.

2. How is fashion impacting today’s generation?

Fashion affects today’s generation with its useless and dented influence that fashion is limited to costly clothes and gadgets. Teenagers are easy targets for those who consider themselves influential personalities under the name of fashion. Many of the time, the child gets intrigued by looking at the lifestyle of another person. They fall into the eye-pleasing trap and try to copy the same. It leads them to lose their own identity and wear fake costly attire to please their hunger for recognition among their friends.

Fashion is nothing more than a term for the things that makes you comfortable and enhance your confidence in being you.

5. Are fashion and trends different?

Yes, fashion and trends are different. The trend follows the fashion; fashion never leaves the frame, it gets highlighted from time to time, and at some particular time, it becomes a trend that everybody follows. Trends have a short life, but fashion stays for life. It gets older with time, like the dhoti kurta culture of India has become old, but it gets rejuvenated with the new look, and it becomes a trend for a while. Fashion is more real than trends.

6. What is Fashion?

Fashion is self-expression in the form of clothing, accessories, footwear, hairstyle, perfume, etiquettes and attitude.

7. Who is known as the Father of Fashion?

Charles Frederick Worth is known as the father of fashion.

8. How is Fashion impacting Today’s Generation?

Fashion has become a cult in this modern era. Youngsters especially blindly want to imitate celebrities and models. They are forgetting the true essence of fashion. They think that fashion is confined to only clothing, footwear and accessories.

9. Why is Fashion Important?

Fashion is important because it is the reflection of our society and culture.

Essay on Fashion | 500+ Words

Fashion, a dynamic and ever-evolving realm of creativity, is not merely about clothing; it is a form of expression, culture, and identity. In this essay, I will argue that fashion plays a vital role in our lives, influencing culture, self-esteem, and the economy. From runway trends to everyday choices, fashion shapes the way we present ourselves to the world.

Cultural Expression

Fashion is a powerful vehicle for cultural expression. It reflects the values, traditions, and history of a society. According to a report by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), traditional clothing represents a rich tapestry of cultural diversity. For example, traditional Japanese kimonos and Indian sarees are not just garments; they are symbols of cultural heritage. By embracing and preserving these traditions, fashion becomes a means of celebrating our global cultural mosaic.

Self-Expression

Fashion allows individuals to express their unique personalities and interests. The clothes we choose to wear send a message to the world about who we are. Dr. Karen Pine, a professor of psychology, suggests that clothing can significantly impact our self-esteem and confidence. When we wear outfits that reflect our style and personality, we feel more comfortable and self-assured. Fashion empowers us to be ourselves and communicate our individuality.

Economic Impact

The fashion industry is a major driver of the global economy. According to the McKinsey Global Fashion Index, the fashion industry contributes significantly to employment and economic growth. It encompasses a wide range of professions, from designers and tailors to marketers and models. Moreover, the fashion industry plays a crucial role in international trade, driving the production and distribution of clothing worldwide.

Trends and Innovation

Fashion is marked by constant change and innovation. Trends come and go, and designers continually push boundaries. The Fashion Innovation Agency reports that technology, such as 3D printing and sustainable materials, is transforming the industry. Innovations like these not only shape the future of fashion but also have wider applications in various fields. For example, sustainable fashion practices can inspire environmental conservation efforts beyond the runway.

Social and Environmental Responsibility

Fashion has the power to inspire social and environmental responsibility. The Sustainable Apparel Coalition emphasizes the importance of ethical and sustainable practices in the industry. Consumers are increasingly conscious of the impact of their clothing choices on the planet and the people who make their clothes. As a result, fashion brands are adopting eco-friendly and fair labor practices, setting an example for other industries to follow.

Influence on Pop Culture

Fashion has a profound influence on popular culture. Iconic fashion moments in film, music, and art have shaped our perception of style. For example, Audrey Hepburn’s little black dress in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is a symbol of timeless elegance. Music artists like Beyoncé use fashion to convey powerful messages about identity and empowerment. Fashion’s influence extends beyond the runway, reaching into the hearts and minds of people worldwide.

Personal Transformation

Fashion has the remarkable ability to transform us, not only in terms of appearance but also in how we feel. A study published in the journal “Social Psychological and Personality Science” suggests that clothing can affect our psychological state. Putting on a stylish outfit can boost our confidence and change our mood, demonstrating the transformative power of fashion.

Conclusion of Essay on Fashion

In conclusion, fashion is far more than the clothes we wear; it is a form of art, self-expression, culture, and economic force. It shapes our identities, influences our confidence, and connects us to our cultural heritage. From the catwalk to our everyday choices, fashion reflects the evolving world around us and inspires innovation and change.

As we continue to navigate the fascinating world of fashion, let us recognize its profound impact on our lives and the global community. Let us celebrate its power to unite cultures, empower individuals, and drive economic growth. Fashion is not just a trend; it is a testament to human creativity and the endless possibilities that come from expressing our unique selves through the artistry of clothing.

The Craze for fashions

Essay No. 01

Fashion refers to a popular type of clothes, hairstyle, or anything else that is the existing style. Fashion covers every thinkable trend of a particular age in a fashionable appeal. There is a common tendency for people to use fashion as a way to express their thinking and nature. Fashion is all about matching and trying to leave an impression on others.

Many people dress to impress and others merely dress to be noticed. Teenagers as well as adults all over the world are becoming extremely fashion conscious. They are all captivated by new fashions. People want to look their best in order to impress others. Due to western traders, Indian fashion is continually growing. It has been observed that the Indian fashion industry usually gives so much of Indian touch to all the foreign designs that the original design cannot be recognized.

The Indian costume industry has been influenced by western fashions. India is a diverse nation in terms of cultural groups and languages. The special feature about this is that each group has different dressing styles and costumes. Indian fashion designers interlink these various trends and give them wonderful Indian touch. Participation and winning in various beauty shows on the international level has further contributed in influencing people in India with regard to new fashions. In the last few years, Indian women have won many significant international beauty shows. The costumes worn by these Indian women are a blending of both western and Indian wear. People observe them as role models and start following what they dress and do. This automatically spreads and becomes fashionable among people.

Modern Indian movies are not far behind in making its impact on young minds. People of India have a long-lasting impression of what they see in movies. They blindly follow what their favourite film stars wear in the films.

A change has also been brought in the style and lifestyle of Indian youth because of foreign education and employment opportunities available abroad. In order to have synced with the western culture, people in India follow the western culture and alter themselves with the lifestyle of the foreigners.

However, fashion is an imaginative and never-ending process. It keeps on changing regularly because human wants are in a nonstop variation. However, the idea of getting attracted by any fashion is not bad but there must be a valid reason behind that fashion.

Craze For Fashion

Nothing changes faster than fashion in the fast-changing world of today. With the expansion of the fashion industry over the last few years, fashion designing has become a lucrative profession. There may be fashion in ornaments, dress, customs, food and drink, hairstyle, amusement, and manners. There is much craze for fashions among boys and girls.

The names of popular dress designers and the labels launched by them have become household names. There are special garments for various occasions. Designers hire expensive models to display their dresses, as the world of fashion has become very competitive. Fashions give freedom to people to dress according to their choice and taste. They also relieve monotony and help to highlight features of an individual and thus enhance his or her personality. Boys and girls watch T.V. programmes, see films and copy the hairstyle, and dress style of actors and actresses. They love the latest cuts and designs and run after the new, showy, and eye-catching dresses.

Some people are of the view that fashion is an indication of a healthy taste. But as fashions have no fixed standard and change rapidly, the common man is unable to keep pace and suffers a lot. Even youth belonging to the poor class of society, join the rat race of fashions. Changing fashions are the outcome of the Cable T. V. culture which has adversely affected the Indian culture. Some boys and girls are unable to cope with the ever-changing demands of modern fashion and resort to bad habits in order to earn a fast buck. The change in fashions is the result of man’s love for novelty. However, it is better to cherish the traditional Indian culture and be moderate in the changing trends of fashion.

A person’s social status and personality is judged looking at his outward appearance. People follow the latest fashion trends to look and feel good and impress others.

Fashion: To Keep Pace with the Society

People these days have become extremely judgemental and more than a person’s mannerism and character, they give importance to his/ her physical appearance. A person who dresses up according to the latest fashion and style is liked by everyone around. Everyone likes to befriend such a person. He/she becomes an inspiration for the others. People mistake this outward beauty for intelligence and seek opinion from such people and like to socialise with them.

It is as if following fashion has become essential to keep up with the pace of the society. A person who is well-dressed as per the latest fashion is looked upon by others.

Different Places; Different Fashion Trends

India is a land of varied cultures. The culture of a place plays an important role in setting the fashion trend of that place. While the Kanchivaram saree is in fashion in Tamil Nadu, short kurti and patiala salwar is in vogue in Punjab. Likewise, tunics, churidars and pherans are in fashion in Kashmir while lungi is in style in Kerela. The cuts and patterns of these attires keep changing with times and people follow these latest trends.

Fashion: Inspired by Celebrities

While the fashion trends in different regions of India are different, people living in the metropolitan cities in the country follow a rather common trend mostly inspired by Bollywood celebrities.

New fashion trends come to life with new movies and television shows. New look is rendered to the actors in every new release in order to make their characters look different. New kinds of attires, hair styles and accessories are introduced and they become a rage among the people.

Boys also prefer wearing trousers, shorts, denim jeans and T-shirts rather than the Indian attires. The western clothes appear more liberating and comfortable and these have thus become a fashion here.

Essay on Fashion – 1781 words

Fashion is a pervasive aspect of our lives and influences us whether we are aware of it or not. It is more than just clothes we wear. It is an expression of our identity, a reflection of our culture and values, and a dynamic industry that has the power to shape the world we live in.

Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

In this essay we will explore the evolution of fashion, its role in society, the business of fashion and its future prospects. From ancient times to the digital age, fashion has been a constant companion in our lives. It continues to inspire and challenge us to redefine ourselves and our place in the world.

The Evolution of Fashion

From animal hides to haute couture, fashion has come a long way throughout human history. Influenced by cultural, religious and technological developments, fashion has undergone countless transformations over time. In this section, we take a journey through the evolution of fashion and explore the key movements, trends and styles that have shaped the way we dress today. Whether you are interested in fashion history or just curious about how fashion has evolved, this section will give you a fascinating glimpse into the rich and ever-changing world of fashion.

Early History of Fashion

Fashion has been a part of human history for thousands of years. The earliest forms of clothing were probably made from animal hides, and served primarily practical purposes such as warmth and protection. However, as human societies became more complex, clothing became an important means of social distinction and expression. In ancient Egypt, for example, wealthy people wore elaborate, ornate clothing to demonstrate their wealth and status. The clothing of ancient Greece and Rome was also highly stylised, using different styles and colours to indicate social class and occupation.

Influence of Religion and culture on Fashion

Religion and culture have played an important role in shaping fashion throughout history. For example, in Islamic cultures, women are required to dress modestly, which has led to the development of unique styles such as the hijab and abaya. In Hindu culture, the saree has been a traditional garment for thousands of years and is still popular today. Similarly, traditional Japanese garments such as the kimono and the yukata reflect the country’s cultural values of simplicity and elegance.

Important Fashion movements throughout History

Fashion has gone through many different movements throughout history, each with its own unique style and philosophy. In the 1920s, for example, the “flapper” style emerged, characterised by short hair, loose clothing and a rebellious attitude towards traditional gender roles. In the 1960s, the “hippie” movement brought a preference for bright colours, floral patterns and flowing fabrics. And in the 1980s, the “power dressing” trend brought women to wear sharp, tailored suits with shoulder pads, signalling their increasing presence in the business world.

The Influence of Technology on Fashion

Advances in technology have had a major impact on the fashion industry. For example, the invention of the sewing machine in the 19th century enabled the mass production of clothing, making it more affordable and accessible to the masses. In the 20th century, the advent of synthetic fabrics such as polyester and nylon enabled the production of new garments with different textures and properties than natural fibres. Today, technology continues to shape fashion, with 3D printing, digital printing and virtual reality being used to push the boundaries of what is possible in fashion design.

The role of Fashion in Society

Fashion is much more than just clothes and accessories; it is a powerful force that has shaped societies and cultures throughout history. From self-expression to reflecting larger societal trends, fashion plays a crucial role in the way we communicate, relate and navigate the world around us. In this section, we will explore the different ways fashion has influenced and been influenced by society, from its role as a marker of social status to its influence on gender roles and identity.

Fashion as a Form of Expression

Fashion allows individuals to express themselves in a creative and personal way. Through their choice of clothing, people can communicate their personality, interests and beliefs to the world. The punk subculture of the 1970s, for example, used fashion as a means to rebel against mainstream society: ripped clothes, safety pins and heavy make-up signalled their rejection of traditional values.

Fashion as a Reflection of Society

Fashion also reflects the cultural, political and economic forces that shape wider society. In the 1920s, for example, flapper” style emerged as a reaction to changing attitudes towards the role of women in society. The flapper’s short hair, loose clothing and cigarette holders were all symbols of women’s newfound freedom and independence.

Fashion as an indicator of social status

Throughout history, fashion has served to signal social status and wealth. In the 18th century, for example, the French aristocracy would wear lavish clothing made of expensive fabrics such as silk and velvet to demonstrate their wealth and power. Even today, luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel are often associated with high social status and prestige.

Fashion and Gender Roles

Fashion has played an important role in shaping gender roles and expectations throughout history. In the Victorian era, for example, women were expected to wear corsets and long dresses that restricted their movement and signalled their submissiveness to men. In contrast, the “power dressing” trend of the 1980s adopted traditionally masculine styles of dress such as suits with shoulder pads, signalling their increasing presence in the business world.

The Business of Fashion

From the runways of Paris to the shelves of fast-fashion retailers, fashion is a global industry that generates billions of dollars in sales every year. But behind the glitz and glamour lies a complex business landscape with many key players, marketing strategies and ethical concerns. In this section, we explore the fascinating world of fashion as a business, from the biggest players in the industry to the latest marketing tactics and sustainability initiatives. Whether you are a budding entrepreneur or a fashion enthusiast, this section offers you a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most dynamic industries.

Overview of the Fashion Industry

The fashion industry is a global behemoth, encompassing everything from haute couture to fast fashion. According to fibre2fashion report , the industry is worth $2.5 trillion and employs over 75 million people worldwide. It is a highly competitive industry that is constantly evolving in response to changing consumer demands and technological advances.

The key players in the Fashion Industry

The fashion industry is made up of a complex web of players, including designers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. The most well-known fashion players include luxury brands such as Gucci and Chanel, fast-fashion giants such as Zara and H&M, and e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and ASOS.

Marketing and Advertising for Fashion

Marketing and advertising play a crucial role in the fashion industry, helping to build and maintain brand awareness and drive sales. Fashion brands use a variety of marketing tactics, from runway shows and fashion events to social media campaigns and celebrity endorsements. In recent years, influencer marketing has become increasingly popular, with brands partnering with social media influencers to reach a younger, digitally savvy audience.

Sustainability and Ethical concerns in Fashion

The fashion industry is also facing growing concerns about sustainability and ethical practises. Fast fashion in particular has been criticised for its environmental impact and the exploitation of labour in developing countries. Many fashion brands are now taking steps to address these concerns, for example by using sustainable materials, improving working conditions in factories and introducing recycling programmes.

The Future of Fashion

What will fashion look like in the coming years? In a rapidly changing world, fashion is also evolving, driven by emerging trends, new technologies and global shifts. In this section, we take a look into the crystal ball and explore the future of fashion. From sustainable fashion to virtual reality fashion shows, the future of fashion promises to be both exciting and full of challenges.

Emerging Fashion Trends

One of the most exciting aspects of fashion is the constant innovation and experimentation taking place. From sustainable fashion to gender-neutral clothing, there are many new trends that are changing the industry. For example, the rise of athleisure has blurred the lines between sportswear and everyday wear, creating a new category of clothing that focuses on comfort and practicality. Another new trend is sustainable fashion, which is

The Role of Technology in Fashion Design

Technology is also playing an increasingly important role in fashion. From 3D printing to virtual reality fashion shows, technology is changing the way we design, produce and consume fashion. For example, some fashion designers are using 3D printing to create customised clothes that fit perfectly and produce less waste. Virtual reality fashion shows are also becoming more popular as they allow consumers to experience fashion in a new and fascinating way.

The Impact of Globalisation on Fashion

Globalisation has had a significant impact on the fashion industry as designers and manufacturers cross borders and cultures. This has led to a more diverse and inclusive fashion landscape where designers draw inspiration from a variety of cultural traditions. However, globalisation has also raised concerns about cultural appropriation and exploitation and highlighted the need for ethical and sustainable practises in the industry.

Future challenges and Opportunities for the Fashion Industry

As the fashion industry continues to evolve, it will face both challenges and opportunities. One major challenge is the need to address environmental concerns such as reducing waste and carbon emissions. The industry will also need to address issues such as ethical labour practises and intellectual property rights. At the same time, there are many opportunities for innovation and growth, such as expanding into new markets and developing sustainable production methods.

Fashion is not only about clothes and accessories, but also about creativity, self-expression, culture and society. From the dawn of human history to the present and beyond, fashion has played a crucial role in shaping our lives and our world. While the future of fashion is uncertain, one thing is clear: it will continue to evolve and adapt to changing times. As the great fashion designer

Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”

Let us embrace the timeless style that fashion offers us while considering the impact it has on our planet and our society. With the right mix of innovation, creativity and responsibility, the fashion industry can continue to thrive and inspire us for generations to come.

The people in our country look up to the Bollywood celebrities as style icons. They keep a tab on every new trend followed by them and try to incorporate them. Many a times, the T-shirts, dresses, suits, shoes, belts and jewellery worn by the celebrities become extremely popular among the masses. Replicas of their designer wear are made available in the market and are sold like hot buns.

These trends stay for a few weeks or months and are replaced by new ones. People do not hesitate changing their wardrobe with the changing fashion.

Fashion: Inspired by the West

Today, most of the fashion trends in India have been inspired by the west. Gone are the days when people only wore sarees, salwar kameez and kurta pyjamas. The youth of the country is inspired by the western culture and this does not only reflect in their thinking but also in the fashion trends they follow.

The girls are seen wearing different types of western outfits including jeans, T-shirts, skirts, frocks and shorts among other clothing items. Boys also prefer wearing trousers, shorts, denim jeans and T-shirts rather than the Indian attires. The western clothes appear more liberating and comfortable and these have thus become a fashion here.

Indian Fashion Designers: Inspiring the West

We haven’t only drawn inspiration from the west but have also inspired them when it comes to fashion. The comfortable cotton kurtas and designer Indian sarees have become quite popular in the western countries. Flaunting a bindi has also become a fashion trend among the women in the west.

Thus, fashion holds an important place in the life of people today. It has become a way of expression. As Bill Cunningham puts it, “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life”.

Introduction

All of us are born to live on this earth but our way of living makes a difference. We prefer to look at the best and dress according to fashion. Fashion is something that adds meaning to life. Many of us go for shopping when we feel bored and it makes us happy just because of the colourful and fashionable things. Fashion is an important part of life and you cannot neglect it.

Meaning of Fashion

Nowadays people only include clothing in fashion, but the real meaning of fashion is a bit vast. It also includes your way of carrying accessories, way of talking, footwear, education, etc.

Actually, fashion teaches us to live and improves our standard of living. The way we behave, the gadgets we carry, all we choose as per the current fashion.

All of us earn but have you ever thought where we spend most of our money? We spend most of our money in fashion, like shopping, having good things, having food in a restaurant. Most of us will not consider eating outside is a part of fashion, but it is. We enjoy outside and post pictures which become a trend and finally, others start following us.

Fashion is something that inspires us to earn more so that we could spend it on our commodities. Fashion helps us to hide our physical flaws and helps us to look attractive. Suppose a girl has lots of spots on her face, then with the help of fashion using makeup she can look beautiful. I can confidently say fashion adds confidence.

Fashion is a trend and people follow it to look their best. Nice clothes, decent hairstyle, good makeup, and some trendy accessories can definitely help you to look fashionable. It is really important nowadays and one should accept it.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – What Really Fashion is?

Yes, fashion is an important part of life and all of us want to look good, want to be praised for our looks. We look the same every time but sometimes we are noticed, whereas sometimes we are not. It is all because of our sense of fashion. Fashion helps us to look different. You would have seen old pictures of your parent as well as of grandparents. All of them use to look totally different, their sense of dressing, their hairstyle, choice of colours, all were different just because of the fashion in that era.

Fashion Brings Difference

  • It is our choice of what we like to wear or how we want to represent ourselves. Fashion is something that adds a wow fact in your looks. Nowadays especially youth is very concern about fashion and they never fail to follow the trend.
  • When we wear something good it automatically adds confidence in us and we start feeling good. The beautiful colours of different dress attract us and also change our mood.
  • All of us get bored with the same stuff and things but fashion is something that keeps on changing. It helps us to try new colours as well as styles. Change is good and we like changing our wardrobe, interior decors, etc as per fashion, and we feel refreshed.
  • In the old days, people use to wear the same dress everywhere either they have to attend a wedding or a normal function. Because they had very fewer options and there was no internet or other medium to know the latest trend. Nowadays it does not matter where you live; the quick access to the internet had made things easy.
  • The textile industries were not very developed and very few designs were available in the market but nowadays there are various designers and the textile industry has reached a different level. The growth in the textile industry also developed the other sectors of fashion.
  • The fashion industry has changed a lot and also developed simultaneously in terms of accessories, footwear, etc.
  • The development of fashion also gathers lots of interest and as a result, many fashion designing colleges came into existence, and nowadays Fashion designing is one of the most popular carrier options.

There is nothing bad in following a trend or fashion; in fact, it is a part of life. All of us want to live a wonderful life and fashion is something that adds interest in our life. Many of us prefer looking simple but if you choose a retro style in the modern era, you will definitely be a matter of mockery. Fashion is something that binds you with society.

Essay on Is Fashion Important

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – Fashion: an Important Part of Life

There are different traditions and cultures in the entire world. All of them have their own food, dressing, and many other things that make them different. When people came into contact with each other, they started adopting other cultures, ways of dressing, etc. This bought some change in society and the term fashion came into existence.

What basically Fashion is?

‘Bill Cunningham’ a famous fashion photographer once stated that “Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life”.

  • We can say that fashion is something that keeps us updated with our surroundings and one should really know it.
  • You would have noticed a certain pattern in trend sometimes and most of the dresses follow the same pattern. This is a fashion and not only a dress, but nowadays we also get curtains or cushion covers following the same pattern and this is something called a trending fashion.
  • It is not necessary that every time we get something new in fashion, sometimes it repeats like a season.
  • Fashion develops a sense of self-esteem, when we look good, we automatically feel good and happy. So, I can say that there is nothing wrong in flowing fashion.
  • Fashion and clothing are two different things; fashion can be a pattern, a colour, a way of stitching a cloth, etc. But cloth is simply a piece of cloth of any fabric.
  • Fashion is something that helps you to know the difference between how and when to wear a dress. Suppose you can wear the same salwar kurta in your collage and can also wear it in a function just by adding some accessories like bangles, earrings, etc.

Importance of Fashion

  • Fashion helps us to choose our comfort and dress accordingly. For example, the traditional dress of India is Sari, but it is very tough to wear. So, some fashion experts made saree as a dress which comes in a stitched form, with a pallo as well as plits. Fashion experts made it easy and now people can easily wear a sari. And I can also say that fashion helped people to know others culture.
  • All of us want to look good and decent and it is fashion that makes us look glamorous. Sometimes we don’t have to say more because our outfit speaks a lot about us.
  • It is the fashion industry which bought various categories of dressing, like party wear, ethnic, casuals, formals, etc. It looks quite awkward if you wear a shiny dress in an interview. So, dressing is discriminated into different categories. This got only possible because of the growth of the fashion industry.
  • Nowadays it really matters what fabrics you wear, what colour you choose and what accessories you carry. All these show your status and also make you look attractive. People can’t see your bank balance they can only see your belongings or what you wear.
  • The growth in the fashion industry has developed new employment options and different colleges facilitating fashion studies has been developed, which opens new career opportunities.

Life is a package of happiness and sorrow and we can’t choose happiness or pains. But if we can do something then it is choosing the right stuff like entertainment, adventure, fashion, etc. All these things can make us happy and are also an important part of life. Fashion always attracts and it is available for all, either you are a child or an old one. Don’t stop whatever your age is; just live your life fullest up to the last breath.

Essay on “Modern Fashions” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Modern Fashions

Fashions in Dresses

The Tyranny of Fashions

“A fashionable woman is always in love with herself.”                     — La Rochefoucauld

In the olden days, man was quite uncivilized. He covered his body with leaves of trees or he used to live naked.  But as time advanced, he became civilized and cultured.  The result was that dress became a part and parcel of his life.

A fashion may be defined as a mode or way or manner in which a thing is done or made.  Broadly, speaking it means a slight departure from the usual.  In common talk, it means following the up-to-date cut and style in tailoring standards.  Fashions change every other day.  “Fashion,” said Oscar Wilde, “is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” The dress of today become the ridicule of tomorrow.  The fact, however, remains that the fashions are a special feature of the modern competitive society.

Fashions are highly short-lived and dynamic.  They change as seasons change during the year.  Life does not have a fixed set of values.  The code of conduct changes.  The ways of thought change very rapidly.  Static persons fail to keep pace with the fast changes.  Human mind likes change, movement and variety. With the gearing up of the tempo of modern life, the change in dress which the young men and women wear, comes almost unnoticed.  The change becomes the acknowledged norm of the day.

Now-a-days dress has been given a great importance.  It is very difficult to point out from the outward appearance of a youth whether one is a girl or a boy.  Boy cuts are liked by girls, and the boys; shirts and pantaloons worn by girls make them look like boys.

With the advent of space travel, the world is becoming smaller and smaller.  People of different countries are coming closer.  It results in the interchanging of the dress with that of foreign countries.  The foreigners are imitating us in their dress.

Changes is the law of nature.  Tennyson has rightly said: “The old order changed yielding place to new.” Sometimes girls begin to start wearing tight clothes to show off the different organs of the body.  Girls look exactly like boys in their pantaloons and shirts.  Sometimes people start wearing loose clothes.

However, none can deny that people have become quite fashionable.  There is smartness in the appearance of even villagers.  Elderly people also with to appear spick ad span in dress.  Fashions, no doubt, enhance the charm of a woman and are a great attraction to the male students. If our fore-fathers visit us these days, they will not be able to recognize us.

Fashions, however, have their own toll to take.  Such is the tyranny of the fashions that most of the poor parents who cannot afford new dressed have to remain in a state of constant tension. Moreover, fashionable dressed, at times, are not all comfortable to war.  Tight dresses, for examples, are quite inconvenient to put on.  There are several cases when tight dressed are torn to pieces, when the person wearing them tries to stoop down to catch a bus.  Some dresses are not medically suited to the body.  They causes allergies and skin troubles.  But the lovers of fashion pay no heed to all this.  In their desire to appear smart and attractive, they do not mind paying any price.

Fashions among students, extend not only to their dresses, but to so many other things also.  “Variety”, says Shakespeare, “is the spice of life.” Fashions keep on changing every day in the matter of food habits, social customs and ceremonies, eating habits, films, books, entertainments and the like.  IN fact, fashions add a touch of charm and romance to life.  Life would have been dull and dreary if thing had always remained unchanged.
