About University of Uyo

The  University of Uyo  is located in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The university was formerly known as the University of Cross River State, Uyo.

On 1 October 1991, the Federal government of Nigeria established it as a Federal University, and the name was changed to the University of Uyo. The university inherited students, staff, academic programs, and the entire facilities of the erstwhile University of Cross River State established by Cross River State in 1983

For you to be considered for admission into University of Uyo (NIUYOU), you are advised to meet the following requirements:

• Have a minimum of five (5) O’Level credits at not more than two (2) sittings in relevant subjects.
• Have a minimum JAMB score of 180 in the recent JAMB Exam.
• Have a good score in the UNIUYO post-UTME Exam .
• Have a merit pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND), and other advanced level certificates (DE Candidates only).

What to know about Oklahoma’s top education official ordering Bible instruction in schools

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s top education official outraged civil rights groups and others when he ordered public schools to immediately begin incorporating the Bible into lesson plans for students in grades 5 through 12.

Republican State Superintendent Ryan Walters said in a memo Thursday to school leaders across the state that the Bible is a cornerstone of Western civilization and that its use in classrooms is mandatory.

“It is essential that our kids have an understanding of the Bible and its historical context,” Walters said.

Here are some things to know about Walters’ order, which requires schools to incorporate the Bible as an “instructional support into the curriculum.”

Can the superintendent require biblical instruction?

Walters said Thursday Oklahoma state law and academic standards are “crystal clear” that the Bible can be used to instruct students in public schools. Indeed, Oklahoma social studies standards list various biblical stories, as well as other religious scriptures from Buddhism and Hinduism, as primary instructional resources for students.

What’s not clear is whether Walters can mandate the Bible’s use in classrooms. Oklahoma state law says that individual school districts have the exclusive authority to determine curriculum, reading lists, instructional materials and textbooks.

Andy Fugitt, an attorney for the Oklahoma Center for Educational Law, said his organization has fielded numerous calls from districts seeking guidance on Walters’ order. Fugitt says the order is likely to be challenged in court by First Amendment groups who believe the order may violate the Establishment Clause that prohibits government from “establishing” a religion.

A school district could also sue over the order if they were threatened with punishment for noncompliance, Fugitt said, but Walters’ order didn’t suggest any kind of repercussions for noncompliance.

Is Oklahoma’s Bible order part of a national trend?

Oklahoma’s directive is the latest salvo in an effort by conservative-led states to target public schools: Louisiana has required them to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms , while others are under pressure to teach the Bible and ban books and lessons about race, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Earlier this week the Oklahoma Supreme Court blocked an attempt by the state to have the first publicly funded religious charter school in the country.

“It could well be that some of these developments are appropriate and some of them go too far,” said Richard Garnett, a law professor and director of the Notre Dame Program on Church, State & Society.

“There have been times in the last decades where people went too far in kicking religion out of the public square. The Supreme Court has told people that’s not what the First Amendment requires. Now you’re seeing adjustments.”

How are people reacting to the order?

Walters’ order sparked immediate outrage from civil rights groups and those dedicated to the separation of church and state.

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation, which recently joined a coalition of groups suing Louisiana over its new Ten Commandments law, vowed to take action to block Walters from forcing the Bible into Oklahoma public schools.

“Walters’ concern should be the fact that Oklahoma ranks 45th in education ,” the foundation’s co-president Dan Barker said in a statement. “Maybe education would improve if Oklahoma’s superintendent of education spent his time promoting education, instead of religion.”

Bob Gragg is superintendent of Seminole Public Schools, a central Oklahoma district with about 1,400 students in kindergarten through grade 12.

Gragg said he reads the Bible every morning at his kitchen table, but also is a firm believer in the separation of church and state.

“With the separation I believe church and state are made stronger,” Gragg said. “(Walters) is treading a slippery slope that even if he is successful in the least bit, has grave consequences for our schools, churches, families, state and nation.”

The Bible in Public Schools? Oklahoma Pushes Limits of Long Tradition.

The Bible has a deep history in American classrooms, but the state’s provocative superintendent wants to broadly expand its influence.

The Bible has been a presence in American classrooms to at least some degree since before the origins of the country’s public school system in the 19th century.

But the announcement by Oklahoma’s state superintendent on Thursday that all public schools in the state must teach the Bible represented a major effort to expand its role and bring a Christian historical perspective to most all students. Schools have become the arena for an array of moral and cultural conflicts, and conservative Christians are asserting their political muscle even as they decline as a share of the American population.

“In Oklahoma, we are very proud to lead the country on pushing back on the leftists trying to rewrite history and say, No, we will teach from the Bible,” the superintendent, Ryan Walters, said in an interview on Friday.

Mr. Walters, a Christian conservative and former history teacher, said the mandate would focus on fifth through 12th grades, with an emphasis on the Bible’s influence in history and literature, areas where the Bible has historically been accepted in public education.

For example, he said, the Bible could be used in a lesson to understand the preamble to the Declaration of Independence, which says that all men are “endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights,” or in a study of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” which includes references to Jesus and his teachings.

But he went further, saying that the Bible would also be woven across subjects including math and science, in which students could examine its influence on leading thinkers and ideas. Biblical instruction could also be offered in younger grades when applicable.

The History

The University of Uyo was established on October 1, 1991, as a Federal University for Cross River State.

It was named the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) until it was later changed.

The changes occur during the founding of Akwa Ibom State in 1987.

However, the institution has twelve accredited faculties, a postgraduate school, and a school of continuing education.

In addition to that, the University of Uyo also has good investments in its name.

Currently, there are four campuses spread across the state with a permanent campus in Uyo.

Campuses in Uniuyo

The University of Uyo (Uniuyo) has four campuses, which are;

1. Permanent Site/Main Campus

When you enter the permanent site of Uniuyo, it has a big entrance gate with a wide lawn around it.

Some part of the Uniuyo central administration is located in the Main Campus.

The institution has also been moving some faculties to the permanent campus.

Here are the faculties you’ll find at the Main Campus;

• Natural and Applied Sciences
• International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR), and the Postgraduate School

The International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR) is located on the Main Campus.

However, Postgraduate schools are operated from the Main campus including PGD, Masters, and Ph.D.

The University of Uyo filling Station is located close to the gate, as you enter the school premises, by your left is also the Uniuyo FM radio.

2. Town Campus

The town campus in located in Ikpa Road, Uyo with the following Faculties;

• Social Sciences

As a student or staff of the University of Uyo, you’ll have access to free medical treatment at the University Health Centre which is located on the Town campus.

However, the Uniuyo Microfinance bank is located on the town campus towards the main gate.

You can find banks like Zenith, UBA, Access, and more still close to the Uniuyo microfinance bank.

3. Annex Campus

The Annex Campus of Uniuyo is still located along Ikpa road, opposite to town campus.

However, the premises accommodate the female hostels and the male hostel with other four faculties.

You’ll find some faculties like; Business Administration, Law, Environmental Studies, and General Studies located in the Annex campus.

Some administration office is also found in this area but mostly for their departmental issues.

The Annex campus also has the Uniuyo Nursury School, Student Cafeteria, Bread bakery, and event hall.

4. Ime Umana Campus

The Ime Umana Campus is located in  Ediene Abak, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

A student who enrolls for Pre-Degree, JUPEB, and other special courses are obtaining lectures at this campus

The University of Uyo Health Centre

The University Health Centre provides free health services to students, staff, and staff family members.

It is open to the public. Routine Services provided include:

However, the University of Uyo teaching hospital is not located close to the health center.

Yes!  Uniuyo department of Medicine is competitive and students are awarded admission based on merit. To enroll in the medicine department, you must have 6 credit pass in WEAC/Neco/GCE and score more than 250 in Jamb. However, the institution does not accept direct entry students into the department.

No! Uniuyo stops writing of post-utme in 2014 but will conduct screening before offering you admission. Screening that will be conducted is checking and validating your documents including validating your SSCE result, Origin certificate, Jamb original result, passport, and more. The screening form is sell online at the cost of N2,500. Note: The price can change at any time and the decision to either start writing post-utme again.

No! The University of Uyo is not among the selected schools that JAMB Choice as second choice universities.  This means that no matter the JAMB Score you have (Be it 300 or above), UNIUYO will not consider you for admission if you apply them as 2nd choice.

B) Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in relevant subjects which must include English Language and mathematics at GCE O’Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.

C) Candidates with Teachers Grade II with passes at credit or merit levels in conjunction with credit passes in relevant subjects at GCE, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents may be considered. No subject may be counted at both TC II and GCE O/Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents.

Upon meeting the above requirements, candidates automatically become eligible for admission into UNIUYO and can proceed for their internal screening exercise either via online or university environment.

Please I want to be sure that UniUyo offer computer Engineering course. I saw it on University of Science and Technology course offering and later discovered that they are not doing and making the School my first choice.

California to add financial literacy as a requirement to graduate high school

What you need to know: California is ensuring that all high school students are taught personal financial literacy before graduating after an agreement between state leadership and NGPF Mission 2030, an affiliate of Next Gen Personal Finance was reached.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire (D-North Coast), Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas), and a national financial literacy non-profit — NGPF Mission 2030, an affiliate of Next Gen Personal Finance — today announced an agreement to make financial literacy required content to graduate high school.

“We need to help Californians prepare for their financial futures as early as possible. Saving for the future, making investments, and spending wisely are lifelong skills that young adults need to learn before they start their careers, not after.” Governor Gavin Newsom

Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire (D-North Coast) : “Financial literacy is a critical tool that pays dividends for a lifetime. There’s a wealth of data about the benefits of learning these valuable lessons in high school, from improving credit scores and reducing default rates to increasing the likelihood that our future generations will maintain three months of savings for emergencies and have at least one kind of retirement account.”

Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) : “Ensuring our students have the skills and knowledge to thrive is paramount to California’s continued success, and financial literacy is a key part of that educational mission. Our agreement is the culmination of many robust and productive conversations with stakeholders across the state on how best to implement financial literacy into every student’s high school curriculum.”

Tim Ranzetta, co-founder of NGPF and lead proponent of the Californians for Financial Education initiative campaign:  “We commend Governor Newsom, Senate President pro Tem McGuire, Speaker Rivas, and the bill’s authors and supporters for their leadership and commitment to guaranteeing access to one semester personal finance education for every California student. We look forward to supporting the implementation of this essential course.”

This agreement is reflected in AB 2927, sponsored by NGPF Mission 2030, which the Governor will sign. The legislation will require a semester-long personal finance education course available for all California high school students by the 2027-28 school year and make personal finance a graduation requirement starting with the 2030-31 graduating class. 

Once the Legislature passes this legislation, proponents of the California Personal Finance Education Act initiative eligible for the November 2024 ballot have agreed to withdraw their measure.

College savings accounts

The financial literacy bill aligns with state efforts to prepare students early on for a healthier financial future. California’s  CalKIDS program  invests $1.9 billion into accounts for low-income school-age children in grades 1-12 and for newborn children born on or after July 1, 2022 – indicating the need for early financial literacy. All families of low-income public school students – 3.4 million across the state – are able to access college savings accounts created in their children’s names.

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) is located in Uyo which is the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

UNIUYO was formerly known as the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS). In 1991, the Federal Government of Nigeria established it as a federal university and the name was changed to the University of Uyo.

Subsequently, the university inherited students, staff, academic programmes and the entire facilities of the erstwhile University of Cross River State established by Cross River State in 1983.

Currently, UNIUYO has about 12 faculties, the postgraduate school and the school of continuing Education.

If you’ve found your desired course, you can enroll into the Bachelor’s degree programmes through the JAMB.

Basically, the purpose of the entry requirement is to ensure that those admitted have the necessary preparedness to benefit from the programme. For entry into the Bachelor’s degree programmes, candidates are normally admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), by Direct Entry or through the Pre-degree Programme. There is a screening test for all modes of admission.

After gaining admission, you can defer your admission, but you must fulfill the following requirements

• You must have appeared for screening and was found qualified for registration in the Department into which you were offered admission;
• You must have formally accepted the admission and paid the Acceptance fee;
• You must have one of the following reasons for deferment: financial constraint, ill-health, in which case, s/he must submit a Medical Report authenticated by the Director of Health Services of the University, non-release by employer or family problem.

You’re not allowed to defer admission in order to make up for deficiency in admission requirements.

Moscow State Forest University is a specialized establishment of higher education which trains engineering personnel, scientists as well as bachelors and masters for forest industry, wood processing and pulp and paper industry and is the major educational and scientific center of forest complex of the country. This study illustrates the spatio-temporal dynamics of urban growth and land use changes in Samara city, Russia from 1975 to 2015. Landsat satellite imageries of five different time periods from 1975 to 2015 were acquired and quantify the changes with the help of ArcGIS 10.1 Software. By applying classification methods to the satellite images four main types of land use were extracted: water, built-up, forest and grassland. Then, the area coverage for all the land use types at different points in time were measured and coupled with population data. The results demonstrate that, over the entire study period, population was increased from 1146 thousand people to 1244 thousand from 1975 to 1990 but later on first reduce and then increase again, now 1173 thousand population. Builtup area is also change according to population. It has taken centuries of farming to create the existing spatial distribution of agricultural lands. Modernization of Russian agriculture started fifteen years ago. It has brought little change in land cover, except in the regions with marginal agriculture, where many fields were abandoned. In recent decades, Russia has experienced substantial transformations in agricultural land tenure. Post-Soviet reforms have shaped land distribution patterns but the impacts of these on agricultural use of land remain under-investigated. Despite harsh climate, agriculture on the northern margins of Russia still remains the backbone of food security. Historically, in both regions studied in this article – the Republic of Karelia and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) – agricultural activities as dairy farming and even cropping were well adapted to local conditions including traditional activities such as horse breeding typical for Yakutia. Using three different sources of information – official statistics, expert interviews, and field observations – allowed us to draw a conclusion that there are both similarities and differences in agricultural development and land use of these two studied regions. The differences arise from agro-climate conditions, settlement history, specialization, and spatial pattern of economy.
