Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan resumes his much-anticipated comeback with “Jawan” (Hindi for “Soldier”), a high-toned action-adventure about a well-meaning terrorist and his crack team of hostage-taking girls with guns.
Khan’s revival began a year ago with a prominent cameo in the otherwise meh mythofantastic superhero pic “ Brahmastra Part One: Shiva .” Then in, January, he stormed the box office with the lead role in “ Pathaan ,” a manic spy thriller and the most recent installment in the Yash Raj cinematic universe. “Jawan” will probably delight Khan’s established fans, and maybe uninitiated viewers, too, if only because he’s comfortably playing the hits, now with somewhat greater conviction and a little more polish.
“Jawan” was produced by the star and his wife Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment production company, so it’s not surprising to see how well-worn and carefully navigated the movie’s contrived plot and conventional mood swings tend to be. This is a Shah Rukh Khan vehicle, and by now, that conjures certain formulaic expectations. Still, the makers of “Jawan” spend a little too much trying to convince viewers that we don’t really know Khan’s mysterious antihero, who, after an overproduced but still rousing flashback action sequence, takes a train-ful of commuters hostage.
Khan’s character, soon revealed to be Azad, the warden of a women’s prison, seemingly executes a woman in a burqa, all while wearing a goofy bald cap, which he soon rips off. Khan, in character, rasps out his expectations-flouting demands to the generically incensed negotiator Narmada (Nayanthara): get the Agriculture Minister to pay off starving farmers’ extortionate loans, or more people will die.
“Jawan” careens from one twist to the next, fast enough that it almost doesn’t matter how familiar and ultimately staid its story and set pieces often are. A few plot twists are also easy enough to anticipate. Azad romances Narmada and charms her impressionable ten-year-old daughter Suji (Seeza Saroj Mehta). He denounces various government officials and combats their corruption with a handful of bloody, media-amplified demonstrations. Azad speaks for the common people but behaves erratically, performing a little soft-shuffle dance surrounded by terrified commuters. He proudly and laboriously explains that he’s actually a good guy fighting the real enemy: public servants who do not serve the republic.
There’s an involved and agreeably goofy subplot that ties Narmada and Azad’s story with the movie’s opening scene, set 30 years prior in an unnamed village that may or may not be Tibet (somewhere near “India’s border,” terrorized by Asian soldiers in white star-studded green caps). If you’ve seen Shah Rukh Khan movies before, you won’t be especially surprised at how these two subplots tie together, though you may be delighted anyway. It’s a major plot twist that predictably takes over the back half of the plot and re-orients Azad’s plot so that viewers know that this time, unlike all the other times, it’s personal.
This time, there’s a nefarious weapons dealer, Kalee (Vijay Sethupathi), who is as malicious as he is violent. There’s also a surprise cameo from a big Bollywood star, whose presence isn’t really a spoiler if you pay attention during the opening credits. And be on the lookout for a duet dance number led by Khan and Deepika Padukone, who have great chemistry, possibly because they know that, by now, they don’t have to really compete for viewers’ affection. Oh, and a couple of the fight scenes are maximalist show-stoppers despite being over-edited and under-directed. Loud and rote, sure, but never boring.
The main reason “Jawan” doesn’t deliver more than what Khan has previously delivered is because its creators seemingly included every masala-style subplot they could think of. Still, “Jawan” is unlike Khan’s last two comeback trail stops because its creators are better at navigating its many hairpin twists and turns. Kudos to director Atlee, a former assistant director whose credits include the Rajinikanth vehicle “Enthiran” and its sequel “ 2.0 ,” and his creative team.
Most importantly, in “Jawan,” Khan looks more relaxed than in years past, toggling leisurely through his repertoire of tics and poses. He looks especially comfortable in undemanding musical numbers, and he still gives great Blue Steel looks every time he turns on a slow-mo heel to pout at viewers’ and/or co-stars. Shah Rukh Khan is still a star, baby, and “Jawan” uses him about as well as his fans might hope.
Khan even looks good delivering a corny but impassioned speech later in the movie. As Azad, Khan reminds us that he’s just like you and me, the apathetic public who, despite our best intentions, have not always exercised good judgment when voting for government officials. There’s a general election in India next year, and while the makers of “Jawan” could have otherwise taken bigger risks, their efforts are appreciated.

Jawan Reviews
At almost 170 minutes, the film is long, and the fact that the director can have our full attention for every second of it says a lot.

Director Atlee and superstar Khan team up to deliver a high stakes, fast-paced action film that packs a punch. Already well established in the Tamil film industry, Jawan marks the director's first foray into mainstream Bollywood, and he nails it.

“Jawan” is such a wild ride, playfully blending genres while also making serious statements on government corruption, greed, class discrimination, and healthcare scandals among other things. It has a little bit of something for everyone.

Jawan uses a lot of familiar plot devices in these types of lengthy action films about revenge, corruption, and people with secrets. Some of the story's twists could have been handled better, but the performances remain engaging.

Jawan is a competently crafted, enjoyable movie that showcases Shah Rukh Khan in a crowd-pleasing persona. Although it may lean on some familiar conventions, it remains an imperfect yet commendable choice for fans of mainstream cinema.

Shah Rukh Khan marries personal with political seamlessly in most films, but Jawan isn't one of them.
Full Review | Sep 14, 2023
Atlee captures Khan as he ought to be, elevating him to a godlike figure in human form, turning each aspect of his performance right up to its limit, as far as visual language will allow without breaking the entire film.
Shah Rukh Khan’s return to Masala filmmaking perfectly showcases his acting talents for the uninitiated.
Full Review | Sep 13, 2023
Jawan is the sort of chaotic and earnest …action/thriller/romance/musical that adds just enough purpose and rides high enough on star power to make for a satisfying theatrical experience.
Full Review | Original Score: 7/10 | Sep 13, 2023
While fear may have governed Jawan’s handling of political issues, there is not even that excuse for the gender prejudice in its scripting and casting.
Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee's messy homage to comic book movies combines the politics of A Wednesday with the theatricality of V for Vendetta.
Jawan sees Khan teaming up with Tamil writer and director Atlee in a gloriously convoluted story of family, activism, and revenge. It’s violent, it’s insane, and it’s an absolute rollercoaster.

‘Jawan’ movie review: Shah Rukh Khan is spectacular in Atlee’s socially-charged thriller
Shah rukh khan launches his own ‘clean india campaign’ in this elaborate but persuasive action film from director atlee.
September 07, 2023 03:27 pm | Updated 07:07 pm IST
Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Jawan’
It’s an opening sequence for the ages. Somewhere along the northern borders of India, a battered soldier recovers. The kindly and idyllic village he’s resuscitating in is set upon; people are shot, stabbed, drowned in a creek. The soldier rises like a messiah, swooping down with a spear against a thundering sky. We don’t see his face yet, wrapped in gauze, though his eyes fill us in. The staging is spectacular, mythic and rimmed with darkness. There’s also a flaming horse darting across the screen. No wonder Japanese video-game designer Hideo Kojima couldn’t contain his excitement on social media. As weird as it may sound, Jawan is, after all, the most Metal Gear- ish Shah Rukh Khan film.
Tamil director Atlee has been teasing a film with Khan since 2019. It’s not the first time an accomplished southern director has joined forces with a major Bollywood star for an action film with charged sociopolitical themes (Atlee’s mentor, Shankar, likely showed the way). Yet, there might be more to this collaboration than meets the eye. Atlee’s characters tend to have doubles and aliases . The multiple identities can be stashed in a single body (Vijay in Theri ) or several (Vijay in Mersal and Bigil ). The last two films, notably, were massy, twisty stories centered on fathers and sons. All of which screams out for Khan, who — rivalled only by Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar — is Hindi cinema’s biggest magnet for multiple-role films.
Jawan (Hindi)
30 years after that explosive opening, we meet Khan — now playing a goofy, wisecracking vigilante with a bald head —as he hijacks a metro train in Mumbai. He’s assisted by a squad of female fighters, most of whom get names and a few elite ones backstories. Also on the train is Alia, the daughter of a dead-eyed arms dealer named Kaali (Vijay Sethupathi in a mean beard). It’s revealed soon enough — spoilers ahead — that Khan in the present timeline is actually Azad Rathore, the jailer of a high-security women’s prison who moonlights as an ethical terrorist. What’s more, Azad is set to marry Narmada (Nayanthara), the fearless negotiator he was making song requests to while leading the hijack.
I won’t divulge how many Shah Rukh Khans you get in Jawan, but it’s enough for the price of a single ticket. Khan, 57, is an entertainer at heart but it is the flashes of menace and malevolence that mark out his best performances down the years. Since he can’t commit to outright villainy anymore — the cost of being a successful megastar — he turns to his quasi-antihero avatar with particular relish. “When I become a villain, the heroes don’t stand a chance,” he grins, more in self-regard than as an actual threat. Jawan isn’t a morally challenging or ambiguous film like Fan or Baazigar , but it still stretches the limits of its superstar’s repertoire. Benign, upstanding, ideal citizen Khan — check. Grizzled, cigar-chomping, Wolverine-recalling Khan — also check.
The action in Jawan is as slickly persuasive as you’d expect from a big-budget Atlee film. Drones, choppers, gatling guns; the director raids the whole inventory of Hollywood-style action blockbusters. However, what really sells these set pieces, besides some fluid jumps and kicks from Khan, are the smudges of Indianness applied to the grand canvas. I loved the idea of one of the hijackers leaving the crime scene in an auto. Or the flashback of Deepika Padukone (in a key cameo) slamming Khan in the mud. As in his past films, Atlee roots his action in urgent social justice anger. Khan launches his own Clean India campaign, taking on one faulty institution after another, from agriculture to healthcare and (more subtly and respectfully) defence. At least three different characters are labeled ‘deshdrohi’ (traitor) as the film insistently points up the insidiousness of such claims.
Jawan is also a movie in love with other movies. Bollywood and Hollywood fans alike will have a field day playing spot-the-reference. Before his endgame is revealed, Khan’s vigilante has shades of The Joker, Darkman, even a bit of Dennis Hopper from Speed . Kaali literally hands out red and blue pills (a neat idea, I think, since he’s working to corrupt the system). We get a Russian mob boss in a Bane mask. Yet, as in Pathaan , the best references are to Khan’s own filmography. Azad’s adoptive mother (Riddhi Dogra) is named Kaveri Amma, which was also the name of Khan’s adoptive mother in Swades (2004). There are similar nods to Main Hoon Na , Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and, perhaps most fittingly, Duplicate .
Not everything flies. There is a surge of Atlee-esque melodrama in the second half. Despite Anirudh Ravichander’s best efforts, the songs feel generic (‘Chaleya’ by Arijit Singh is especially forgettable; there is a better Arabic version on YouTube). However, Vijay Sethupathi truly unleashes his wildness in the later scenes and is a hoot. Nayanthara coolly underplays her typical heroine role, less smitten with Khan than the film would like her to be. The audience, though, is wholly smitten.
Towards the end, Khan delivers an impassioned speech on democracy, and the power of a single vote. Even in these polarising times, everyone listened in stunned agreement. One nation, one emotion, one Shah Rukh Khan.
Jawan is currently running in theatres

Jawan Movie Review: On the whole, JAWAN is a mass entertainer at its best with superlative performances, thrilling and clapworthy moments and largerthanlife action sequences.
On the whole, jawan is a mass entertainer at its best with superlative performances, thrilling and clapworthy moments, larger-than-life action sequences and a never-before-seen avatar of shah rukh khan. at the box office, it will emerge as a blockbuster of epic proportions, setting new records and rewriting existing ones., jawan review {4.5/5} & review rating.
JAWAN is the story of a vigilante. A brutally injured and mysterious man ( Shah Rukh Khan ) is rescued by kind villagers living near the border. A few months later, the militants attack the village. The mysterious man, who has now recovered, saves them all. However, he seems to have lost his memory. 30 years later, the mysterious man hijacks a metro train in Mumbai with the help of his gang of women comprising Laxmi (Priya Mani), Eeram (Sanya Malhotra), Ishkra (Girija Oak), Kalki (Lehar Khan), Helena (Sanjeeta Bhattacharya) and Janvi (Aaliyah Qureishi). The mysterious man asks the government for Rs. 40,000 crores. But he doesn't want the money for himself. Instead, he donates the amount to a certain economically disadvantaged class. Narmada ( Nayanthara ), who has successfully handled such hostage operations in the past, is given charge. Despite her best efforts, the mysterious man escapes and so does his team of women. Kalee Gaikwad (Vijay Sethupathi), one of the biggest arms dealers in the world, gets involved in this mess as the government takes money from him to give it to the mysterious man as per the latter’s request. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
Atlee's story is not just entertaining but also makes an important comment on our political system. Atlee and S Ramanagirivasan's screenplay is riveting. There's so much exciting happening in the film every moment that one doesn't get time to think. However, logic takes a backseat in certain portions. Sumit Arora's dialogues are powerful. Several one-liners will induce claps and whistles in theatres.
Atlee's direction is terrific. He keeps the narrative very simple and hence, it'll be easy to understand. The narrative is a bit South style as the film touches upon social issues and at the same time, doesn’t compromise on entertainment quotient. Yet, JAWAN is very much a Bollywood film. The balance has been achieved wonderfully by Atlee. There’s a lot of flashbacks and back and forth in the narrative. It adds to the intrigue value as one is constantly curious to know the back story.
On the flipside, the second half is comparatively weaker. Several moments give you a been-there-done-that feeling. The cinematic liberties are too many. Also, Atlee introduced several characters and plot points but they were forgotten after a point.
JAWAN begins with a bang. Shah Rukh Khan’s entry will create a frenzy in cinemas. Before you can process the sequence, the story jumps to the metro hijack episode. It is not just badass but also very moving, especially the flashback scene. The scenes of Suji (Seeza Saroj Mehta) are cute. The film then again goes on a high with the hospital sequence. The intermission point is another scene where the masses will go crazy. The second half also has its share of exciting scenes but pales in comparison to the out-of-the-world first half. Two scenes that stand out are the ones of the prisoner giving birth in jail and Kalee’s enquiry. The climax, however, is when the film yet again scores a sixer.
Jawan | Official Hindi Trailer | Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi | Atlee Kumar
Shah Rukh Khan rocks and also shocks as in the last 31 years, viewers have never seen him in such avatars. All his looks are entertaining and add a lot to the mass quotient of the film. Vijay Sethupathi is okay initially but shines in the second half. Nayanthara looks stunning and delivers a first-rate performance. The chemistry between her and Shah Rukh Khan, however, is not as electrifying as intended as the director didn’t devote time to developing their love story. From the girl squad, Priya Mani, Sanya Malhotra and Lehar Khan leave a huge mark. Girija Oak and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya also do well. Seeza Saroj Mehta is adorable. Sunil Grover (Irani), Eijaz Jhan (Manish), Ridhi Dogra (Kaveri) and Ashlesha (Alia; Kalee's daughter) don't get much scope. Omkar Das Manikpuri (Kalki's father) is quite good. Naresh Gosain (Agriculture minister), Ashwin Kaushal (Health Minister) and Mukesh Chhabra (Pappu; Health Minister's PA) are aptly cast. Deepika Padukone (Aishwarya Rathore) is there for nearly 20 minutes and is too good. Sanjay Dutt (Madhavan Naik) is crowd-pleasing.
Anirudh's music comes across as one of the weak points of the film however the songs are lavishly picturised. The title song is like the theme of the film and is the best of the lot. 'Not Ramaiya Vastavaiya' and 'Zinda Banda' work due to the placement. The same goes for 'Aararaari Raaro'. 'Chaleya' and 'Faraatta' are decent. Anirudh's background score enhances the mass appeal.
G K Vishnu's cinematography is very rich. T Muthuraj's production design is superior. Anirudh and Dipika Lal's costumes stand out. Preetisheel Singh D'souza's make-up and prosthetics deserve a special mention. Spiro Razatos, Anl Arasu, Craig Macrae, Yannick Ben, Kecha Khamphakdee and Sunil Rodrigues' action is visually appealing and not too gory. Redchillies.vfx's VFX matches global standards. Ruben's editing is razor-sharp.
On the whole, JAWAN is a mass entertainer at its best with superlative performances, thrilling and clap worthy moments, larger-than-life action sequences, and a never-before-seen avatar of Shah Rukh Khan. At the box office, it will emerge as a blockbuster of epic proportions, setting new records and rewriting existing ones.

Jawan Review: Strikingly Meta Vehicle Taps The Magnetism Of Shah Rukh Khan
Jawan review: in the final act, srk and vijay sethupathi (who is as brilliant as ever) square off in a scene that caps a magnificent crowd-pleaser that blends some sharp writing and a high level of technical finesse..
Jawan review: SRK in a still from the film.(courtesy: iamsrk )
A young South Indian director with a 100 per cent success rate - every one of his four previous films has been a humongous hit - and a Bollywood superstar with an enduring fan following like nobody else's combine to unleash a Hindi mass movie that is as good as any we have seen in recent times.
Jawan , which also has Tamil and Telugu versions released nationwide, brings together the best of two worlds in a manner that borders on the delightfully frenzied and consistently captivating. Shah Rukh Khan, coming off the box-office record-smashing Pathaan, makes the most of a screenplay that has things to say and the wherewithal to making its pertinent points without losing its focus on the primary purpose of providing unalloyed entertainment.
Packed with all the ingredients that you would expect in a high-octane action film, Jawan is a strikingly meta vehicle in which a star communicates directly with his fan base and holds forth on themes that are crying out to be addressed. To that extent, it is somewhat like the 2017 Vijay starrer, Mersal, Atlee's third directorial venture.
In his first Hindi film, Atlee, who has written Jawan with his Theri and Mersal collaborator S. Ramana Girivasan, taps the magnetism of Shahrukh Khan and the spirit of the hot-button themes of the times in a superbly crafted potboiler that mixes big explosive action sequences with intimate emotional scenes.
Jawan tells the affecting story of a soldier without resorting to jingoistic bluster. If anything, the film does the exact opposite. It speaks up on behalf of the masses and touches upon issues that matter to people at the mercy of the politically and economically powerful.
Without naming names or specifying real-life parallels, Jawan weighs in on crony capitalism, bad loans, farmer suicides, neglected government hospitals, malfunctioning military weapons, election fraud and the plight of a citizenry stripped of access to resources that are rightfully theirs.
Jawan turns the spotlight on apathetic ministers, falsehood-peddling politicians and incompetent and compromised bureaucrats, none of whom are willing to be held accountable for a rotting system. The film delivers its message with great flair but without succumbing to gratuitous grandstanding.
Who is better equipped to do all this than SRK, who, even when he plays a larger-than-life action hero on a mission to take down a powerful industrialist who has wronged him and his nation in more ways than one, can stay rooted in the real world and animate the canvas with humanity even as he projects an invincible, superhero-like persona?
Jawan , produced by Gauri Khan under the Red Chillies Entertainment banner, erases the line that separates the actor playing a fictional figure and the star engaged in a conversation with his audience. The latter is inevitably one-way but as one watches the film in a packed hall its resonance with significant swathes of the audience is palpable.
SRK carries off the onerous task with such phenomenal panache that one barely notices when one entity gives way to the other. The narrative is never in danger of losing its balance even as the performer and the character shorten the distance between them.
On one level, Jawan is a fan service masala film. On another, it is a tale of revenge that is also a political statement, and a loud and clear one at that. Jawan ends with the hero looking straight into the camera - it is positioned in a way that represents the eye of the audience - and tangentially echoing what SRK's character had said more than once in the action-comedy from a decade ago, Chennai Express ("Don't underestimate the power of a common man").
Ask questions, seek answers and use the power of your vote wisely, he exhorts the audience with all the solemnity that he can muster following an act of daring that compels the head of state to accept his demand to intervene.
Jawan opens in a hilly village on India's border - the exact location isn't specified - where a badly wounded soldier is nursed back to physical health. A few months later, he springs to the defence of the hamlet when it is attacked by a band of murderous infiltrators. He repels the aggressors but the brave warrior does not remember who is. A little boy who he saves from certain death promises to find out when he is old enough.
The film cuts to three decades later. A Mumbai Metro train with more than 300 passengers is hijacked by a group of six women (played, among others by Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya) and an ageing man (Shahrukh Khan) in the guise of an Army Captain. He demands that he will negotiate only with one particular police officer, Narmada Rai (Nayanthara, who hits all the right notes).
The parleys over the next few minutes brings an unlettered agriculture minister and a wealthy businessman, Kali Gaekwad (Vijay Sethupathi), into the picture. At one end of the spectrum, we hear the story of a farmer (Omkar Das Manikpuri) forced to kill himself because he has defaulted on a Rs 40,000 loan for a tractor. At the other end is the case of a bank waiving off an industrialist's Rs 40,000 crore loan.
The captain's first encounter with the law gives way to scenes in a woman's prison where he reappears as a jail warden, Azad, a man who has revolutionised life for the inmates with boldly progressive initiatives. The jailer, with the help of six women who have suffered at the hands of those who wield power, is determined to change how the prison - and the nation - functions.
The first half of the 170-minute film is fast-paced and replete with stylishly executed fight sequences and a track that witnesses Azad and Narmada, a single mother, entering into wedlock. Post-intermission, Jawan recounts the story of Azad's birth, the fate of his mother (Deepika Padukone in a memorable special appearance) and his relationship with the former women's prison jailer Kaveri (Riddhi Dogra).
The flashbacks out of the way, the film returns to the thick of the action around the villainous tycoon whose misdeeds extend to trying to influence the electoral process with money power. The hero and his supporters fan out to stop the baddie and his accomplices in their tracks.

In the chase sequences in the run-up to a rousing climax, director Atlee and his team pull out the stops and come up eye-popping action passages. In the final act, SRK and Vijay Sethupathi (who is as brilliant as ever) square off in a scene that caps a magnificent crowd-pleaser that blends some sharp writing (the Hindi dialogues by Sumit Arora are almost always on the ball) and a high level of technical finesse.
Jawan hits the bull's eye both as a movie that is out to entertain and a vehicle that demonstrates the power of a superstar endowed with a voice that is anything but ordinary. It manifests itself as much on the screen as it does outside its fictive confines.

Positive Messages
Resistance toward oppression is important, as is highlighting injustices and corruption. The film encourages people to exercise their democratic rights by voting for progressive actions, although the film's vigilante hero often uses violence.
Positive Role Models
Azad is a Robin Hood-like figure who leads an anti-establishment and anti-capitalist movement. His actions may be outside the law but his message resonates with oppressed people. His father, Vikram, an ex-army officer raises his voice against a powerful weapons dealer and his mother, Aishwarya, is an incredibly strong woman who raises him till the age of 5 while she is incarcerated. He is then adopted by the jail's warden, Kaveri, who not only ensures that Azad gets an education, but also learns about the sacrifices his parents made for the country. Azad's core team is composed of six women who have been either wrongly incarcerated, or penalized for standing up for their rights. They all possess unique talents and are skilled combatants. Special agent Narmada Rai also cuts a powerful figure as the woman in-charge of negotiations and combat. She later realizes that the government and its institutions are corrupt and joins Azad's resistance movement.
Diverse Representations
The film is out and out anti-establishment, borrowing from real-life injustices that have become commonplace in India, involving religion and caste. Women get important roles, such as the head of a counter-terrorist unit, and perform stunts on par with the men. The characters hail from different parts of the country and belong to diverse castes. North Eastern states and their people get a lot of screen time, which is rare to see in most mainstream Bollywood films. A throwaway scene uses a little person with a speech impediment for comedic effect.

Violence & Scariness
Lots of gore in a multitude of fight scenes. Adults and children are killed by bullets, arrows, knives, and impaled by spears. A woman is thrown against a staircase, and later a corrupt policeman threatens her with gang rape to obtain a false confession. She then stabs him in the neck with a pen. A character is shot and pushed off an aeroplane. Two characters are killed by hanging in different scenes, including one which is a suicide; their body is seen hanging from a tree. A scene depicts a horse set on fire by militants. A dog is shot and killed and its dead body is seen lying in a puddle of blood. Kids are seen in distress and dying in hospital, their motionless bodies shown.

Sex, Romance & Nudity
Couple of short romantic scenes between spouses but no kissing or explicitly sexual acts. A doctor declares that a character is pregnant by only checking their pulse -- an old trope often see in Bollywood movies. A scene depicts someone covered in sheets, undergoing labour pain and about to give birth.
Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Sex, Romance & Nudity in your kid's entertainment guide.
Some use of "bloody" and "damn" in the English-subtitled version.

Products & Purchases
Multiple brand placements for Asian Paints can be seen in the form of roadside hoardings.
Drinking, Drugs & Smoking
A hero figure smokes a cigar in multiple scenes, often while executing stylized stunts, with the depictions seeming to portray smoking as "cool." For example, at one point, they momentarily swallow a cigar butt for dramatic effect. The villain smokes a pipe in multiple scenes. Other characters smoke cigarettes. A character is injected with a syringe against their will and another is forced to swallow a pill. A pediatrician is accused of being high on drugs.

Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Jawan is a gory action Bollywood movie but with an important message to tell. Azad ( Shah Rukh Khan ), a jailer in a woman's prison, brings together a team off vigilantes to highlight corruption and injustice. Azad and his armed resistance movement face off against a ruthless capitalist billionaire, Kalee Gaikwad ( Vijay Sethupathi ), and the corrupt law enforcements officers and politicians in his pocket. Both sides murder each other en masse with copious gore, including graphic stabbings and shootings. Children and animals are killed on-screen, and there is a suicide when a man hangs himself from a tree. The threat of rape is also used. Although Azad often resorts to violence, the film uses Khan's stardom and breaks the fourth wall to urge people to shun the politics of hate and demand justice for the oppressed. There is some smoking, with a cigar even been implemented into some of the movie's stunts. The film is in Hindi with English subtitles available. Some use of "bloody" and "damn" in the subtitled version. To stay in the loop on more movies like this, you can sign up for weekly Family Movie Night emails .

What's the Story?
In JAWAN, Azad ( Shah Rukh Khan ), a jailer in woman's prison, sets out to avenge the injustices handed out to his parents by an evil, corrupt billionaire called Kalee Gaikwad ( Vijay Sethupathi ). Azad leads an armed resistance movement and disrupts Gaikwad's control over the government and its politicians, helping the country's poorest and most oppressed people in the process.
Is It Any Good?
Director Atlee and superstar Khan team up to deliver a high stakes, fast-paced action film that packs a punch. Already well established in the Tamil film industry, Jawan marks the director's first foray into mainstream Bollywood, and he nails it. Having achieved great success at the box office, clips from the movie where (one of) Khan's character delivers a monologue to Indian voters, still circulate on social media. The politics of vigilante justice and armed resistance depicted here may be murky, but the message is hope, and it is delivered extremely well. The action scenes are impeccably shot, the costumes and prosthetic make-up are on point, and the casting choices are refreshing. Khan's double role as Vikram and Azad is a treat, and his pairing with Nayanthara , who plays Narmada, a head of a counter-terrorism unit, raises the excitement levels. Sethupathi also excels in portraying Kalee Gaikwad, the film's central villain. Additionally, most songs are choreographed beautifully though musically they are arguably lacking. If you can stomach the gore, this is a Bollywood action movie with something to say.

Jawan Review: Shah Rukh Khan's Bollywood film screams mass appeal

Starring : Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi
Rating : 3/5 stars
In 2007, Shah Rukh Khan led 16 young girls to cinematic hockey glory, empowering them and in the process, clearing his own name that had been besmirched with the tag of ‘traitor’. Chak De! India is a cult classic that is often counted among Shah Rukh’s best films.
Sixteen years later, in 2023, Shah Rukh becomes the leader of an all-girls team (only six as opposed to 16), empowering them and in the process, clearing his father’s name that had been besmirched with the tag of ‘traitor’. Jawan , his latest release, is all set to become a mega blockbuster, certain to be counted among the Bollywood superstar’s most significant movies.
Of course, the parallels between Chak De ! India and Jawan end right there. In terms of treatment and scale, they are poles apart. Jawan sees SRK in action mode, almost as if his earlier film Pathaan consumed a year’s supply of steroids. It’s a superstar vehicle that celebrates the charm and enduring appeal of Khan and on that metric, it succeeds wildly. He is a joy to watch.
Add to that, a load of meta references to past movies and real-life controversies, a strong message, popular South Indian stars, a powerful sprinkling of politics, some surprise cameos, and you have the recipe for the perfect masala Bollywood film, a genre that the actor seems to be hell-bent on reviving.
After a spectacular opening scene set somewhere on the border area, where an old amnesiac Shah Rukh rescues a group of villagers from villains and asks, "Who am I?", only to be greeted with his full name on screen followed by the credits, the action shifts to the hijacking of a local train in Mumbai. SRK once again appears, this time with six female badass aides and starts blackmailing the government. Unlike other hijackers, his demands are not personal, they are all meant for the greater common good. Turns out he is a modern-day Robinhood named Azad, in charge of a weird women’s prison with high-tech machinery that looks like Professor’s set in Money Heist .
This premise is all that you need to know about the plot of the film. From here on, it’s a ride that sees too many elements stuffed in too small a box --- a hectic, inexplicable romance between Shah Rukh and Nayanthara (playing a glamorous cop), a precocious child, father and son moments, a long flashback and a mean villain who is the epitome of all evil.
Do they all work? Individually, not by a mile. The SRK-Nayanthara love story has no chemistry while emotional and romantic scenes appear more like breaks between the next action set piece. The back stories --- of Khan’s team members as well as his own --- lack punch or emotion. But overall, the package compels you to accept the film's undeniable entertainment appeal.
Jawan is the sort of film where everyone walks in slo-mo to Anirudh Ravichander’s thunderous music. It’s also the film where your disbelief should not just be suspended but completely banished. Do not ask questions or even wonder ‘how do these things happen?’ You need to just surrender as one unbelievable sequence after another unfolds, often without a shred of logic (sample this: a doctor checks the pulse of a character and announces she’s pregnant).
What makes it a cut above the rest is the politics. A number of issues take centrestage --- farmer’s suicides, environmental degradation, crumbling healthcare, businessmen influencing elections and faulty governance. And then there is the monologue to watch out for --- it’s not Azad but Shah Rukh Khan making a fervent appeal to ask the right questions to your leaders.
Wish the same attention had been given to character arcs as well. Nayanthara is a force to reckon with in Tollywood but here, her emoting skills leave a lot to be desired. The supporting actors, from Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Riddhi Dogra to even Sunil Grover simply fill in the blanks, none of them making an impact. Vijay Sethupathi, the powerhouse actor, is actually disappointing as the antagonist, not oozing the menace expected to match Shah Rukh’s 360-degree cool quotient.
Revenge --- personal and social --- is the central theme in Jawan and while that is a tried-and-tested trope, director Atlee gives it the ultra-stylised Tollywood-meets-Bollywood treatment. It may have crater-sized holes as far as logic is concerned but what it has in oodles is Shah Rukh Khan. And that’s not bad news at all. Also, there are two fabulous cameos featuring A-listers, and a juicy possibility mentioned in the end credits. If you have the patience, wait for it.

‘jawan’ review: shah rukh khan leads a messy, massy film with a message, 'jawan' starring shah rukh khan and nayanthara hit theatres on 7 september..
A revenge saga driven by personal and professional motives with each side further infuriated because their loved ones are dragged into the fire is a common trope. But Atlee's Jawan isn't just another addition to the roster because it calls for mass appeal even before people enter a theatre.
A still from 'Jawan'.
With names like Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi, and Atlee's own attached to the project, expectations are high.
For the most part, the film justifies the appeal – it embodies the very essence of massy, pan-Indian cinema.
Nayanthara in a still from 'Jawan'.
Hereon, the film attempts to touch upon several timely social issues– from farmer suicide and income disparity to the dangers of a crumbling health infrastructure. While the film's heart is set firmly in the right place, its usage of exposition is often unsettling.
This exposition is one of the reasons the film can come across as preachy instead of being an astute commentary about corruption and how power imbalances across societal structures affect every citizen.
Sanya Malhotra in a still from 'Jawan'.
Some of the scenes are bogged down by this, making them seem almost artificial in their setting. This also affects some of the more emotional scenes – the film asks you to cry with such conviction and you feel more pressured than emotive.
An often-masked Rathore is introduced to the audience and the people in the film as a messiah for the underrepresented and underprivileged. He's a modern-day Robin Hood. Due to this cat-and-mouse chase with those in power, the film's first half remains entertaining.
Shah Rukh Khan in a still from 'Jawan'.
Rathore's team of six women all have backstories of their own (we only get to see some), each propelling one of the causes the team is rallying for or against. There is, however, the issue of them getting lost in the storytelling as it continues to focus on the main man. When stakes get higher, the team is left in the sidelines for the hero to save the day.
The film attempts to critique the prison industrial complex in a sensitive, if not extensively researched, way. This adds a layer to Shah Rukh's character that merges seamlessly with his backstory. Deepika Padukone's cameo, though short, adds a breath of fresh air to the film's otherwise bleak atmosphere.
If you're wondering, the nation's King Khan doesn't get lost in this medley of causes and characters – he gets to explore his entire skill set in Jawan. From his work in films like Baazigar and Darr to the numerous romantic films he's given over the years, there's a touch of every version of SRK.
As someone who loved watching the actor as a villain, the film's first half is a visual treat.
Speaking of villains, Vijay Sethupathi is every bit as watchable as the film's lead. Sporting a salt and pepper full beard, the actor milks every second of his screen time to create a truly reprehensible villain. On the flip side, the writing of his character lacks the complexities of what makes a truly great villain.
A lot of Jawan walks the line of the new vs the old. This is two-fold. One angle is that the film uses a lot of preexisting tropes to tell its story but attempts to experiment with the way we view 'heroes and heroines' in massy films.
Vijay Sethupathi in a still from 'Jawan'.
This is combined with references to films like Lion King , Baahubali, Khal Nayak, and The Matrix. The references aren't very subtle (remember the exposition?) but some were enough to coax out hoots from the audience.
The second is more direct and, in a way, more enjoyable. When an older and younger generation fight together, united in their end goal, they are delightfully divided in their methods. From wired earphones vs wireless ones to using machine guns vs eggs on a windshield, a rather enjoyable action sequence is built.
Nayanthara in a still from 'Jawan'.
Atlee's Jawan loses some of its steam in the second half when everything starts to seem a little predictable. The lack of strong dialogue writing also starts to make its presence felt. The respite comes from the cast's able performances and the well-crafted action sequences.
Jawan's appeal does rest firmly on its cast. Each entry leads to hoots and whistles.
A scene involving a knife-wielding Nayanthara fighting equally matched opponents is one of my favourites. Action directors Spiro Razatos, Anl Arasu, Craig Macrae, Yannick Ben, Kecha Khampakdee, and Sunil Rodriguez do a commendable job in keeping the high-octane sequences innovative.
Vijay Sethupathi in a still from 'Jawan'.
The camerawork by GK Vishnu leaves no stone unturned in trying to make you buy into the things you're seeing on the screen. Like a lot of action films, Jawan also expects you to suspend some disbelief; forget some basics of physics while you're at it. But the camerawork keeps your attention focused on the action and the larger-than-life stars.
As long as you stay firmly focused on the bigger picture, the other inconsistencies become blurrier. But it is my responsibility to tell you that they do exist.
While the songs don't give you much to write home about and often seem to be there just because they're a staple of a massy Bollywood film, the background score and the title track stand out.
Jawan is a vehicle for an action superstar and Shah Rukh and Nayanthara both carry that tag well. With a tighter script and more effective dialogues, Atlee's venture could've been a film for the ages. Alas.
Shah Rukh Khan in a still from 'Jawan'.
Regardless, with Jailer and Jawan releasing so close to each other, it's safe to say that the fans of massy entertainers are being well-fed.

Jawan First Review: Shah Rukh Khan Stands Out In This Physically Challenge Film, Packed With ‘Maniac Energy'
Jawan First Review: After taking the global box office by storm with Pathaan, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is all set to make his fans go crazy once again with his next movie, Jawan.
The action-packed thriller movie is directed by Tamil filmmaker Atlee and marks superstar Nayanthara's debut in the Hindi film industry. Soon after the trailer was released and showcased on Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the hype around the film has amped up.
As fans are already going nuts since its advance booking was opened on September 1, the first review of the action thriller is out, and it has only good things to say about it.
Jawan first review out
As the film's team is gearing up for Jawan's release, which is due in three days, Pakistani-origin Umair Sandhu, who calls himself a critic and a member of the Overseas Censor Board, shared his review of Jawan and stated that the actioner is loaded with manic energy and high spirit.
Praising the movie, Umair gave Jawan 5 stars and wrote, "First Review #Jawan is a perfect vehicle that does justice to the talent of #ShahRukhKhan. He seems to have found a story & character that work in perfect sync and tandem with manic energy.#SRK steers this physically challenging lead role with high-spirited self-belief."
JAWAN ADVANCE BOOKING
Filmibeat cannot verify how he has managed to watch the film days ahead of its release or guarantee how authentic the review is. Meanwhile, there is no press being organised for Jawan and journalists and reviewers in India at present.
Jawan advance bookings are now in full swing and is said to beat Pathaan's all-time record for advance bookings. According to its first-day advance booking numbers by trade website Sacnilk.com, the actioner is expected to create new all-time records for Hindi movies and has sold over 7 tickets in India for its opening day alone.
Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan took to X and gave the latest figure, saying, "BREAKING: Jawan Day 1 advance sales. SOLD 7 lakh tickets. CROSSES ₹20 crore gross mark across all theatres in India. National Multiplexes alone sells 3 lakh plus tickets for the opening day... 2 days to Jawan..."
WHAT KRK SAID ABOUT JAWAN?
KRK shared a post on social media, revealing that his Bollywood friend called Jawan a 'masterpiece'. He tweeted, "Just now, a Bollywood Wala friend called me who has watched film, and according to him #Jawan is a masterpiece. It's technically brilliant and full of entertainment. So now I am really confused because I'm not sure, whom I should believe. (sic)"
WHAT MUKESH CHHABRA SAID ABOUT JAWAN?
Jawan was an emotional roller coaster. Thank you for making me a part of this film @iamsrk and @Atlee_dir and @_GauravVerma. Even if I wasn't a part of this film, it moved me and gave me goosebumps. One of the best Bollywood and Pan india films I have seen. Massy with a message.
FIRST REVIEW FROM NEW ZEALAND
Interval in New Zealand. #Jawaan @iFaridoon @taran_adarsh @aavishhkar Just brilliant. SRK swag and what a role by Nayanthara. R E A D Y - India - make it a global blockbuster. Over to you
JAWAN TO SET BOX OFFICE RECORDS
Trade experts believe that the film will set the box office on fire and create new records. Amid competition from Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2, the movie is expected to start on a solid note, garnering over Rs 50 crore in India.
Let us tell you that Jawan has been given a U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with seven cuts. The actioner has been approved for a run time of 169 minutes (2 hours, 49 minutes). On the other hand, it will be released in over 5,000 screens, which is massive.
Shah Rukh Khan and his Jawan team are making sure to promote the film in the right way. Days after seeking blessings at Viashno Devi Shrine, he, along with his daughter Suhana, co-star Nayanthara, and her filmmaker husband Vignesh Shivan, visited the famous Tirupati temple to offer prayers. Several viral videos show SRK wearing a white kurta pyjama with a traditional white and golden cloth around her shoulder, while Suhana and Nayanthara are seen in white salwar suits.
Meanwhile, it is facing backlash in neighbouring nation Bangladesh. The country's government has reached a compromise and allowed a cap of 10 Hindi movies to be released in the country, and Jawan is the third film to be released after Pathaan and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Local artists are concerned about the impact of foreign films on the local film business.
Jawan has sold 11 lakh tickets in all languages for day 1, surpassing advance bookings of Pathaan and Adipurush, which were 10 lakh. Jawan's advance booking collection has grossed 30 crore for opening day.
The executive director of Gaiety, Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema, Manoj Desai told told PTI: "By Thursday, it will be houseful. We are happy with the golden run of movies in theatres, especially in single-screen theatres. I think because of Pathaan and Gadar 2, the business in single screen has revived. The industry has bounced back in a big way. With 'Jawan things are looking positive.'
Fans celebrate Jawan's relase
Fans have flocked cinema halls for the early screenings, and videos from the theatres say that Jawan has all the elements of a mind-blowing massy film. Shah Rukh Kahn fans can be seen dancing and hooting to the song Zinda Banda.
SRK fans also celebrated 'Jawan' release by cutting a cake outside the star's house, Mannat. The cake had 'Jawan FDFS' written on it.
Helmed by Atlee, the movie also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Yogi Babu, Sunil Grover, and others.
It is set to release in theatres on September 7.

Why i didn’t like Jawan despite being a Shah Rukh Khan fan
Jawan movie review: shah rukh khan truly leaves a mark in both his roles as vikram rathore and azad. but apart from srk, the rest of the entire cast seems to be either misplaced or under-utilised. actors of the calibre of vijay sethupathy, nayanthara, deepika padukone, sanya malhotra, priyamani etc., are made to feel extremely unwanted or merely filling the gaps..

On the whole, Jawan is a blockbuster of epic proportions. It will prove to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema ever. It shouldnt be a surprise even if it turns out to be THE BIGGEST Hindi blockbuster ever. The film has tremendous repeat value.

Embracing his ‘More is More’ mantra, Atlee’s fifth film, Jawan, showcases heroic protagonists, themes of justice, intense action, grand song sequences, and his signature lavish scale. With plotlines so dense, they could inspire an entire series.
Ratings: 3.5/5 Review By: Shubhra Gupta Site:Indian Express
Combining the in-your-face maximalism of director Atlee, and the come-get-me grizzled slit-eyed sexiness of star Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan is a pop-masala banger: iss kahani mein action hai, emotion hai, hero hai, villain hai, aur naach-gaana hai, aur kya chahiye? Actually, there is more: fashioned as an unabashed massy entertainer, Jawan slips in strong political messaging at every opportunity, making it a film which is very much of the moment.
Ratings: 3.5/5 Review By: Renuka Site:Times Of India
The Bollywood superstar seamlessly slips into South sensation Atlees universe, a rather new territory for him. Together, they entertain in this high-octane action thriller rooted in emotions and drama. To sum it up, Jawan is like a full on desi thaali. It has all kinds of flavour to satiate your taste buds. The reincarnation of ‘action hero SRK’ hits the sweet spot.
Ratings: 3.5/5 Review By: Tushar Site:India Today
Jawan is a big screen spectacle. It is flawed but at a time where everything is over analysed, it makes for a good time at the cinemas. Ready or not, this is a ride thats definitely worth taking.
Ratings: 4/5 Review By: Soumbrata Site:Times Now
Jawan is an exemplary homage to both Indian and Western action flicks that inundated the industries in the early nineties. The movie could well be on its way to replicate what Top Gun Maverick did to an ailing Hollywood, in Bollywood. Slick action sequences, paired with romance, filial affections and some amazing music makes Jawan a perfect watch. That, paired with a double dose of Shah Rukh Khan is well worth the money. Spoiler alert! There is no Thalapathy Vijay and Sanjay Dutt’s cameo will blow your minds! Jawan 2 coming
Ratings: 4/5 Review By: Zoom TV Site:Zoom TV
Shah Rukh Khan impresses with his dual performance in Atlee’s first Hindi directorial venture. This action-packed spectacle hits all the right marks, paying homage to the action blockbusters of the 1990s while embracing contemporary Southern cinema aesthetics. Nevertheless, Jawan’s true essence lies in its celebration of the iconic Shah Rukh Khan. When you introduce Nayanthara as a formidable action heroine into the mix, you’ve got a definite triumph on your hands.
Ratings: 3/5 Review By: Umesh Site:Koimoi
All said and done, Jawan will always be remembered for Atlees extraordinary way of giving Shah Rukh Khan a befitting tribute, proving why hes, for all reasons, the last of the stars.
Ratings: 3.5/5 Review By: Nikita Site:Bollywood Life
Jawan is a complete package that comes with a dose of action, thrill, emotions and drama. If you have been missing out on full-on seeti maar entertainment, Jawan is for you. BollywoodLife gives it 3 and half stars.

Kalki 2898 AD
By Michael Talbot-Haynes | July 9, 2024
NOW IN THEATERS! Slap on some protective fluoride visors for all the futuristic eye candy on display in the Indian sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD , written and directed by world maker Nag Ashwin. It begins thousands of years ago when gods walked the Earth and battled with each other. We then jump to 874 years from now, where civilization has grown back crooked after a huge war. All the resources like clean air and water are hoarded in The Complex, where the wealthy few dwell, with Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) ruling over it all. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is in extreme poverty and suffers from mass sterility. Only a few women can conceive, and those women are hunted down by the sinister Commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee) and his forces.
“…the world is in extreme poverty and suffers from mass sterility. Only a few women can conceive, and those women are hunted down…”
Captured females are taken back to The Complex, where they are pampered like expensive cattle for an unknown fate while everyone else eats s**t. Despite the lure of the good life, Sum 80 (Deepika Padukone) goes to great lengths to hide her blossoming pregnancy. There is a prophecy clung to among the Shamballa rebels that one day, a woman was going to give birth to a god that would liberate them all. There is Bhairava (Prabhas), an avatar of the god Vishnu in the form of a sassy bounty hunter who is wreaking havoc in the streets. There is also the old god Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan), who cannot die and is waiting in the shadows to fulfill his 3000-year-long destiny.
Look, I enjoyed the two new Dune movies a lot, but they missed a hundred opportunities to launch the kind of giant epic fresco imagery that the subject demanded. Kalki 2898 AD misses no opportunities to amaze with endless vistas of speculative marvels. Ashwin knows how to put the visual icing all over the movie screen. Over and over again, we are treated to these deep perception landscapes of the future that fill the entire eyeline. Pictures like this make watching projected movies on huge screens so much fun.

Movie score: 8/10

This Off-Beat Ryan Reynolds Movie Is Headed to Paramount+
‘bad boys: ride or die’ just earned a prestigious honor, florence pugh & andrew garfield fall in love in first 'we live in time' image, the big picture.
- Shah Rukh Khan swaps his classic boyish charm for a rougher appearance in his latest film, Jawan , sporting a bald head and a rugged outfit.
- The promotional material for Jawan hints at the concept of identity, presenting different versions of the protagonist, leaving the audience to interpret what type of person he truly is.
- The enigmatic nature of Jawan 's narrative suggests that there is more to his story than just a rogue police officer, leaving viewers intrigued and excited for the film's release on September 7.
During his thirty-year reign as King Khan–as he is lovingly described by his fans– Shah Rukh Khan has divided and conquered the romance genre. As he steers into the next chapter of his film legacy, he has bid adieu to his classic boyish charm in pursuit of action-packed carnage and opted for a rougher appearance to match. It's that very notion he has taken one step further with his latest project Jawan , which sees him swap his signature flowing locks for a strikingly bald appearance, as has been demonstrated in a brand new poster for the film.
The new image, shared by Khan on Instagram , positions the Bollywood icon's on-screen counterpart front and center. Captured in vivid black and white, Jawan is armed and ready as he stands contemplating his next move with his finger on the trigger. His appearance screams rough around the edges with a pair of sunglasses and an just-unpolished goatee framing his face. His head is completely bald–a notable anomaly in SRK's hefty catalog of exceptional hair–and his body is draped in a denim jacket for the extra "rough" look. He seems to be deep in thought as he looks down but his finger remains in place nonetheless.
Behind him, an image of another version of Jawan is projected, a version that we've only seen in the trailer previously. His face is wrapped in mummy-esque dressings with one eye visible and locked on something in front of him. The dual images are presumably a nod to the multiple sides of Jawan's identity which is something that has been heavily alluded to. Even Khan's caption hints at this, it reads: "Main achha hoon, ya bura hoon… (which translates to, am I good or bad?) 30 days to find out."
Who Is Jawan?
The concept of identity is one that has been played on massively across the promotional material for Jawan. So far, we've seen him captured as both a man working for his country and also as a man grappling with who he is and ultimately ready to strike with unnerving confidence. Included in Jawan's various visual appearances is a very Joker -style mask with a similar cynicism attached to the look and a disturbing laugh to match. There are continuous references to what type of person he is, but mostly all are presented as open to interpretation. There is also a distinctly different version of Jawan framed in the "Zinda Banda" (Alive Man) music video which positions him as someone who knows exactly what he is doing.
It's impossible to ignore the fact that little of the narrative has been uncovered with much of the excitement around the enigma of it all. This makes it highly plausible that there is much more to Jawan's story than a police offer who went rogue. Perhaps all these "versions" of Jawan are really just a part of his plan to keep things in motion, to distract the enemy, or maybe even his way of being the most visibly undercover officer–or even Mafioso–known to man?
All will be revealed when Jawan hits theaters on September 7. You can check out the poster and trailer for the film below.

Shah Rukh Khan is still a star, baby, and "Jawan" uses him about as well as his fans might hope. Khan even looks good delivering a corny but impassioned speech later in the movie. Jawan Movie Review: Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan is a messy, massy film with a message. The film attempts to touch upon several timely social issues, but often comes across as preachy.
Just watched Jawan with my dad and had a pretty good experience. The movie has several expected highs and a few expected lows as well. It is another action packed spectacle where one has to slightly suspend belief and logical thinking a bit to truly enjoy it. What I liked a lot in the movie:
Jawan First Review: After taking the global box office by storm with Pathaan, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is all set to make his fans go crazy once again with his next movie, Jawan.
Jawan Movie Review: Shah Rukh Khan truly leaves a mark in both his roles as Vikram Rathore and Azad. But apart from SRK, the rest of the entire cast seems to be either misplaced or under-utilised. Actors of the calibre of Vijay Sethupathy, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani etc., are made to feel extremely unwanted or merely filling the gaps.
