Finding your role

Finding your role is the first step to getting good at Mobile Legends. Learning what role suits you best will not only benefit your gameplay but will also make the game more enjoyable.

In Mobile Legends, there are six classes — Tank , Fighter , Assassin , Mage , Marksman, and Support . Each class is unique, and plays a different role on the team.

Tanks are the shield of the team. These heroes have high health points (HP) and high defense. With their toughness, tanks break up enemy teams and help absorb damage.

If you enjoy being at the front, soaking up tons of damage, then the tank role is made for you.

Examples of tank heroes are Tigreal , Johnson , and Grock .

Fighters are the brawlers of the team. These heroes have a good balance between HP, defense and damage. Their balanced stats allow these heroes to get in and get out of fights alive.

If you love to be in the thick of the action while killing heroes, being a fighter is the role for you.

Examples of fighter heroes are Chou , Sun , and Ruby .

Assassins are the ninjas of the team. They have low HP but high damage, roaming the map, ambushing enemies in lane.

If you like being sneaky and taking down enemies, the assassin role is made for you.

Examples of assassin heroes are Saber , Fanny , Helcurt, and Hayabusa .

Mages are long-range damage dealers with strong abilities. These heroes have high mana and low defense, relying on their powerful spells to chip away at the enemy’s HP and control team fights.

If you enjoy spamming spells to annoy your opponent, picking a mage hero would suit you best.

Examples of mage heroes are Eudora , Pharsa , Alice , and Harith .

Marksmen are the hero killers of the team. These heroes have high damage but low defense and mobility. Marksmen help eliminate enemy heroes during team fights.

If you love dealing damage and killing heroes, being a marksman is the way to go.

Examples of Marksman heroes are Miya , Layla , and Lesley .

Supports are the backbone of the team. They have high mana and low defense like mages. However, their spells keep their teammates alive.

If you prefer being in the backline, keeping your team alive, then being a support is best for you.

Examples of support heores are Estes , Angela , Diggie , and Rafaela.

Master your hero

After picking your role and hero, the next step to improving is mastering your hero.

Every hero’s skills interact with each other in specific ways. Being familiar with your hero’s skills brings out the hero’s full potential.

Playing the hero properly also allows you to fulfill the role in your team and winning games.

Every hero has a number of skills, with most them having three. One of them is passive, which activates automatically once certain conditions are met. The other skills are active.

In-game, active skills are circular buttons found at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. They are also ordered from bottom to top, with the hero’s most powerful skill (ultimate) at the top.

Picking the right equipment in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Equipment

Equipment can be purchased in-game to make your character stronger. These items can be purchased at anytime and anywhere in the battlefield. However, each hero can only hold up to six items.

There are 99 equipment in Mobile Legends (excluding special items for heroes). They are split into six categories – Attack , Magic , Defense , Movement , Jungling , and Roaming . The jungling and roaming equipment can be mixed in your movement item.

Luckily, choosing which item to buy is easy in Mobile Legends. If you want to know what the pros do, you can choose Pro Builds, which you can access in the Preparation tab. You can also customize your own build in My Builds.

Mobile Legends Pharsa guide-Pro builds

The game will automatically bring up the items you need to buy in a match.

Items available to buy appear as two glowing golden circles at the top right-hand corner of the screen. The top circle is the item that is currently prioritized, while the item below is next in the priority queue.

To manually adjust your item list, you can open the shop by clicking the rectangular bar with the dollar sign in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Shop

In tougher games, adapting to the enemy and buying the right gear to suit the situation is key to winning.

For example, when facing a mage heavy team, heroes would benefit more from buying a defensive item that is resistant to magic damage compared to physical damage. Learning and buying the right equipment is key to winning matches.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang map

The next step to improving is understanding the map. Knowing the map gives you an advantage in outplaying your enemy and helps communication with the team.

In Mobile Legends, the map is split into three different areas — Base , Lanes and Jungle .

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Map overview

The areas at the bottom left and top right corners of the map are bases of the two teams.

The lanes are split into the gold, middle, and EXP lane.

Oftentimes, the lanes are called based on their positions in the mini-map (top, mid, bottom). All other areas are part of the jungle.

In the jungle, there are monsters that grant different buffs. These strengthen your hero temporarily, giving you an advantage.

The map has different colored dots and symbols — purple , green , gold , and blue , as well as Turtle and Sword , representing different monsters and buffs.

Monsters at the purple dots give ability buffs.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Orange buff monster

Molten Fiend/Core Guard (orange buff)

For 75 seconds, grants the killer a certain amount of adaptive penetration (physical penetration if the hero’s extra physical attack isn’t lower than their magic power, and magic penetration if otherwise).

Molten Morale: The killer’s attacks on enemy heroes deal extra damage according to their role, and slow the target for one second. This effect has a cooldown of three seconds.

Assassin/Fighter/Tank: 5% adaptive penetration, deals 50 (+20% physical attack)(+3000% attack speed) extra true damage, and slows the target by 60%.

Marksman/Mage/Support: 10% adaptive penetration, deals 50 (+30% physical attack)(+5000% attack speed) extra true damage, and slows the target by 20%.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Purple buff monster

Thunder Fenrir/Serpent/Statued Shocker (purple buff)

For 75 seconds, reduces the killer’s skill cooldown by 10%, mana cost by 60%, and energy cost by 25%.

Thunder Morale: The killer restores max HP according to the type of unit they kill (3% for minions, 5% for heroes, and 12% for creeps).

3 tips how to secure Turtle in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang article

Certain heroes have greater priority for getting these buffs, for example, assassins should have priority over supports as assassins can use the buff to help the team land some early kills.

Monsters at the green dots give health and mana, while monsters at the gold dots give gold buff.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Turtle

The monster at the turtle symbol is the Dragon Turtle or Cryoturtle .

One of the two boss monsters in the game, the turtle spawns within two minutes of the match starting. Killing the turtle rewards the team with gold and experience points.

How to secure Lord in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and win almost every time

The sword symbol is the Lord or Elemental Lord. The second boss monster of Mobile Legends, it spawns eight minutes into the match.

Killing the Lord also rewards gold and experience points, but more importantly, it allows the team that defeated him to summon him to fight alongside them. This is a big bonus when pushing down lanes.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Lord

Using the camera

The camera is one of the most underutilized functions in Mobile Legends. Using the in-game camera gives information on what is happening around your hero.

Learning how to use the camera properly helps raise awareness while prepping for battle.

Shifting the camera gives the advantage of knowing where enemies are and how team fights are developing. With additional information, gameplay decisions are easier to make without risking your life by moving into dangerous areas.

Mobile Legends Hero Lock Mode

By default, Mobile Legends’ camera locks onto the hero as they move. Tapping and swiping the screen moves the camera around to look at areas away from the hero.

Watch how MLBB YouTuber Betosky constantly uses his camera to maintain an awareness of his enemies’ location from the video below.

Betosky knew where his enemies were because of his camera usage. That knowledge is his security that he can go into the jungle to get extra gold and EXP, paving the way to victory.

In the beginning, shifting the camera may feel awkward but it’s a key skill of Mobile Legends. Constant practice makes using the camera easier.

Winning team fights in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Victories in Mobile Legends are made from team fights. Every successful team fight is a step to winning the game. To improve your team fights, you first need to improve your positioning.

Positioning

Positioning is managing the distance between your hero and the other heroes in the match.

Being out of position could lead to being killed by the enemy. With a numerical advantage after your death, the enemy team is more likely to win team fights.

Notice how Try “Ayam JAGO” Sukardi (Gusion) moves out of position and ends up too close to the enemy team for a brief moment. In that moment, Steven “Marsha” Kurnawan (Kaja) grabs and pulls Ayam JAGO into a quick death.

Shortly after, Marsha picks off Diky “Tuturu” (Karrie), dragging him into his team for another easy kill.

Moving out of position could also mean not being able to provide the help needed from your role.

For example, a tank hero, is supposed to absorb damage and be at the front. However, if the tank moves too far back, the team suffers from unnecessary damage.

Notice how Marsha constantly placed himself between the enemy team and his teammate. This pays off when he blocks the orb cast by Muhammad “Lemon” Ikhsan (Alice), saving his teammate from potential death.

Understanding a hero’s role helps determine their position in team fights. Typically, tanks are in front. Followed by fighters, mages, marksmen and support. Assassins generally remain on the sidelines waiting for a chance to pick off a poorly positioned enemy.

Knowing the meta in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Researching the meta and learning how to economize your Battle Points will also improve your game.

In games, the meta is a term that describes a certain strategy that has been proven to have greater success in the current state of the game.

Mobile Legends best settings for performance

Mobile Legends constantly updates its heroes. Some get stronger, while others get weaker. With these changes, certain heroes become stronger than others in their role.

Following a recommended tier list means picking heroes that are more effective. These stronger heroes also make playing the game easier.

Remember that the meta constantly changes. These tier lists change based on patch updates so always check the meta to stay relevant.

Spending your Battle Points in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang beginner's guide-Hero shop

In Mobile Legends, economizing your Battle Points (BP) is important to unlock heroes.

Heroes aren’t free. You are provided with a few starting heroes such as Miya and Layla. But the rest are unlocked through BP, tickets, or diamons.

It’s best to save BP as playing a specific hero requires a lot of BP to be saved up. There are currently 120 heroes in Mobile Legends. The cost of each hero ranges from 6,200 to 32,000 BP.

How to top up diamonds in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

To reduce wasting BP, rely on the free heroes given by Mobile Legends. Every week, eight random heroes will be provided for free. Use these heroes to test out different roles to see which role suits you best. You can then work towards saving your BP on a specific hero in that role.

Spending BP on heroes you won’t play wastes your time and effort.

Mastering these points is the best starting step to getting good at Mobile Legends.

Don’t forget that practice helps as much as theory. The more you play, the more experience you’ll get and the better you’ll play.

Good luck and we’ll see you at Mythic rank .

Is Mobile Legends good?

Sunnexdesk

MOBILE Legends is arguably one of the most popular mobile games currently being played. While its premise is interesting enough, what really keeps players glued to their smart phones? The most recent Mobile Legends (ML) update brought in several new additions to the game players not only have a new interface to get used to, but they’re introduced to new heroes as well. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer online battle arena mobile game developed and published by Shanghai Moontoon Technology. The game has become popular in Southeast Asia and will be a medal event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. This is a worldwide game, many person play it. It is an online game and can be played on PC or smartphones. You can also make a team and join tournament games to win all the winning prizes. Some say that it can be harmful to a person. But think of it, playing mobile games have positive effects to the players. Researchers came up with a study to show that there is also an effect in mobile games (ML) to the behavior and health of students. There are positive and negative effects. Positive effects: improving brain functions and educating children. Negative effects: distraction while performing another important activity, affecting social interaction, sleep problems and loss of productivity. The negative effects can be avoided by your child, just guide them well and make a schedule for their games. You could set up a time for their mobile games and family outdoors. Through that activity, the interaction of the child to their mobile games can be avoided or lessen. (By Gwen Katrice A. Everything I need to know I learned in playing Mobile Legends

What Mobile Legends Taught me in life

I’ve been playing Mobile Legends for more than two years now, and by far, it’s the longest that stayed in my phone. That alone is already an achievement. I thought it was just some kind of bandwagon ride, of boredom – that I’ll get over and delete soon. But looking at it right now, maybe it stayed that long for a reason.

We all have our own preconceived notions of online games – of how addictive and damaging it could be. Of how it could ruin a person’s life. But doesn’t it goes to all? That too much of everything concept. What if I tell you that it could go otherwise? That in the years I’ve spent playing online, not only ML, I’ve gained insights that are at the same time valuable in getting through life. There’s so much to gaming than what meets the eye.

Life doesn’t come with a detailed manual

Exploring around any gaming app means tapping here, there, and everywhere. While there are some friends who’ll be kind enough to help you navigate around, at the end of the day, you’ll only have you. You’ll discover that some commands will lead you to one thing or bring you back to another. Trial and error. Fear and excitement both at the same time. Isn’t that how we experiment with life?

Learn to adjust

We take so many personas in Mobile Legends – I could be a mage, tank, marksman, or an assassin depending on what is needed. Rising through ranks means learning what characters to use in order to create a synergy with the team. It’s frustrating but at times you have to accept that someone’s always better than you – even if you ranked number one in your district. It takes humility to win. There are times when we don’t want to listen to those above or below us thinking that we know better than them. But in order to own our victories, we have to bring back our feet to the ground.

Understand people

Working with professionals, I get to deal formally with people. But Mobile Legends doesn’t bow to any status. There you’ll meet a student who’s venting his frustrations by trashtalking his teammates. A brother who’s been recently scolded by his parents and keeps feeding himself to the enemies. A girlfriend trying to work things out with her boyfriend and steals your buffs and kills. Or someone anonymous who will just leave in the middle of the game to attend to a more important thing. People of all sorts. But they are not limited in those online games alone. You’ll have to meet more annoying, ill-tempered, and crazy individuals in real life.

Work at your own pace

Competitive as we naturally are, it gets frustrating to see people achieving more in life than us. But this is what I learned in Mobile Legends: some heroes become more powerful in the later part of the game. Assassins and mages can be very strong at the beginning but the tables can turn when physical heroes and marksmen are able to complete their items – they’ll easily come up and wipe out all enemies in one blow. Take your time. Maybe you’re just a late game hero.

There’s always an epic come back

Yesterday, a dear friend of mine failed to pass her longtime goal of passing the bar exam. We know by heart how much it mean to her. And how much it hurts. But guess what, early morning today she messaged us of our doubts of contacting her in this trying times. She acknowledged her pains and encouraged us to reserve our congratulations by the following year. Verbatim: I’m not okay, but I will be. Such courage and humility to accept the universe’s plans. Dues ex machima. This reminds me of the many times the team almost got defeated. Score gap of more than ten. Our base almost totally wrecked. But in such unexpected time, the odds suddenly played in our favor.

wp-1588215018952.jpg

One of my freelance projects last year was to help edit a raw video of a Cebuano DotA player, Ninjaboogie, who brought home almost 20M after playing The International – an amount I’ll never earn in a lifetime of my current salary grade. But more than the money, what I learned from this guy is how much there is to online game than how we see it – passion, dreams, fears, and… life.

Sure it gets a little disheartening when things don’t go our way. But maybe we’re just the late game heroes. Let’s wait for our epic come back. For now, let’s complete our items and ‘party’?

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Wiki

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

MLBB Icon (M3)

Since its release in 2016, the game has groADVANCE SERVER wn in popularity worldwide, most notably in Southeast Asia, [1] and has since surpassed the 1 billion downloads milestone, with peak monthly players of 100 million. In 2021, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang achieved an all-time gross of US$1 billion, with 44 percent of its revenue coming from outside Asia, making it the top mobile game of its genre with the most global appeal. [2] [3] The game sets two teams of five against each other in real-time, with at least 10-second matchmaking and 10-minute matches. Players must fight over three lanes to take the enemy's tower and protect their own in a traditional battle arena game. Unlike traditional MOBAs, there is no hero leveling or pay to play aspect—winners and losers are determined by skill, ability, and strategy. [4]

Following success, Moonton has tapped into the esports scene with the creation of several regional tournaments dubbed as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa regions that serve as qualifiers for the Mobile Legends World Championships, where a total of 15 countries, including Japan, Russia, Turkey, and the United States, have participated so far. [5] It was also among the 6 games chosen for the first medal event of esports competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines. [6]

Originally titled Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA , [7] the game's first release in 2016 was received with criticism due to similarities with another MOBA game, League of Legends . Riot Games sued Moonton for copyright infringement in July 2017. However, the action was dismissed by the Central District Court of California in the United States due to forum non conveniens . [8] Moonton has since done multiple remodeling and patch updates for differentiation and game enhancements.

Gameplay [ ]

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mobile game. The game is available for free and is only monetized through in-game purchases such as characters and skins. Each player controls a distinct "Hero" character with unique abilities and traits. The basic objective of heroes is defined by six roles: " Tank ," " Marksman ," " Assassin ," " Fighter ," " Mage ," and " Support ." These positions define each player's responsibilities for their respective teams. Players can also customize their heroes' builds, which include in-game equipment  and emblems . [9]

Ranked and classic [ ]

Sanctum Island Map

Overview of the in-game map

Two teams of five players go against each other in real-time. Players will be matched in correspondence with their current ranking. There are seven ranks in the game, with “ Warrior ” being the lowest, followed by “ Elite ”, “ Master ”, “ Grandmaster ”, “ Epic” , “ Legend ”, and the highest rank, “ Mythic ”. [10] A player can only invite and form a team with other players of similar rank or players that are one rank higher or lower.

Taking down the opposing base is the main goal of achieving victory. There are three lanes in the game: The gold lane (top), exp lane (bottom), and the mid lane. Depending on what side of the map (blue or red) a player starts on, the gold and exp lanes will be switching places. Between each lane is the jungle. The jungle can be divided into four parts: two between the enemy's lanes and two between a player's team lanes. The jungle has different creeps and monsters that offer buffs, experience, and gold.

A player can't attack the enemy base directly without taking down opposing turrets in at least one lane first. Each lane has three turrets that shoot at heroes and deal a ton of damage. To attack them without taking damage, a player needs help from their team's “minions”. Minions constantly spawn at the teams’ bases and travel down along each lane. The team to successfully destroys all the turrets in one or all lanes will increase their chances of destroying the opposite team's base. [11]

In classic mode, the gameplay is similar. However, winning or losing a match won't affect a player's ranking. Players can also form a whole team regardless of their rank differences and freely choose any heroes, along with weekly free ones and any trial card they possess.

Arcade and other modes [ ]

Arcade is an additional game mode in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang that can sometimes be playable during special events, holidays, or occasions. The mode feature various strategy based sub-games.

Brawl is a game mode where players are given two random heroes in their inventory at the start of the game. This mode contains only one lane, with two turrets defending the base of both teams. Items can only be bought inside the base, and players that leave it cannot re-enter unless wthey arerespawning. A special variation called Shadow Brawl is released from time to time. The difference is players at the start of the game will choose from the same set of heroes. The hero with the most votes will be used by the entire team. [12]

As an auto battler game, Magic Chess is all about strategy. A player, represented by a "commander," faces 7 other players over the course of several rounds on a chess-like battlefield. Instead of fighting oneself, a player buys, equips, and lines up units that constitute MLBB Heroes. Apart from different types of "synergies"," a player has to delegate the random items they gainewhile also taking care of the specific position of each hero on the battlefield. Additionally, a player can increase their gold income by economizing or going on winning/losing streaks. In the end, a player has to eliminate the other competing players by reducing the health points of their commander to zero. Depending on a player's placement, they will gain a certain amount of rank points after the game. Starting at "Warrior"," players can rank up to Mythic," which is similar to the core game's ranking system. In update patch note 1.4.60, Magic Chess was included as a permanent arcade game mode, after temporarily being added in January 2020. [13] This and Brawl are the only permanent arcade modes so far.

Various arcade games use the same battlefield as rank/classic mode, but with twists. These modes include Mayhem , [14] where all heroes' abilities are enhanced and a player starts the game at level four; Deathbattle , [15] where players will play different heroes in a single match; and Mirror , where players of the same team will be using the same hero throughout the match based on majority voting.

Other game modes include an option to fight against AI heroes, custom 5v5 battles with other players, and hero training.

‘Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’: What you need to know

MANILA, Philippines – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang ( MLBB ) or Mobile Legends  is  the first title to be announced as a medal game in the inaugural esports tournament of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

Here’s what you need to know about the game.

What is Mobile Legends?

Mobile Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) for iOS and Android devices developed and published by Shanghai Moonton Technology, a game development company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The game was launched in 2016.

How do you play?

At its core, Mobile Legends pits 2 teams of 5 against each other, with the main objective being to destroy the opponent’s base.

At the start of the game, each player gets to select a hero. Each hero has a unique set of attributes and skills. There are currently 92 heroes in the game, grouped into 6 different roles: tank, fighter, assassin, marksman, support, and mage.

These roles determine the responsibilities of players for their respective teams. Support heroes, for instance, can buff or heal their teammates. That’s why they should stick with their allies to keep them alive or strong in battle.

Players must also level their heroes up by defeating enemy forces, specifically computer-controlled minions, turrets, and heroes. Doing so earns them in-game money, which they can spend on items that boost the stats of their heroes.

A typical game of Mobile Legends runs an average of 10 to 15 minutes, unlike MOBA titles for PC like Dota 2 and League of Legends , which can last anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.

How popular is it?

The game has reportedly amassed over 500 million downloads and 75 million active players since it first launched. Much of its popularity is centered around Southeast Asia, where the game has established itself as a major esport.

The Philippines, for example, has its own Mobile Legends esports league called MLBB Professional League. It recently concluded its 4th season, with Sunsparks winning the championship and nabbing the lion’s share of the $54,000 prize pool.

Non-professional players, meanwhile, have MLBB LIGA, a street battle event where fans can compete against each other for prizes and bragging rights.

Outside of the country, there is MLBB World Championship 2019, or M1 for short, which features 16 professional teams from 14 different countries. – Rappler.com

Mobile Legends Review – Is It Worth Playing in 2021?

Mobile Legends Worth Playing 2021 Header

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs) to date. Even after its release in 2016 by Moonton, this action game became the talk of the town by avid players already, particularly in Southeast Asia. Fast forward to 2021, millions of players are still enjoying this action game. In this Mobile Legends review, we’ll dive into the details as to why a lot of players are into this epic game.

First Look Into Mobile Legends

Mobile Legends Matchmaking

At the time of this writing, there are 108 heroes to choose from in this action game, with Aulus being the latest. However, only a few of the characters are free to use as some of them are unlockable through battle points or ML tickets while others are purchasable.

The structure of its arena is similar to that of most multiplayer battle arena games like LoL or DOTA. You’ll be fighting over three lanes (top, mid, and bottom) to take down the enemy nexus while defending your own. Both bases of the team spawn weak AI-controlled characters called minions that will follow the three lanes and fight over enemies and turrets. Additionally, players can also farm in the jungle to kill creeps and monsters to level up and earn money fast.

What’s unique about Mobile Legends is that it also comes with built-in live streaming so you can stream your plays to your fans or friends. You can also watch the streams of your friends or other players worldwide. Besides that, it comes with an esports system where onlookers can witness the competition from their screens.

Now that you already have a glimpse of this epic game, let’s dive into the Mobile Legends game review.

Mobile Legends Review

Mobile Legends Gameplay

Maps are smaller than most PC-based MOBAs, which would mean that you will quickly face your opponents in just a few seconds before you go towards the lanes. The gameplay in Mobile Legends is also simpler, which means you can destroy turrets easier and level up faster than in other MOBAs.

You can also choose between six roles in Mobile Legends. These roles are tank, marksman, fighter, assassin, mage, and support. Although the game explains what these roles are during the tutorial and in-game, they usually fall apart when the match comes to a close. Usually, players may jump from one lane to the other, especially when they find one of their teammates needing help.

Apart from the quick matchmaking, what most players like about Mobile Legends is that Moonton is always generous with their rewards. Since the bulk of their players are usually F2P, Moonton frequently gives out rewards to players during events. Recently, in September 2021, Moonton announced on their official Facebook page that they will give players free skin, free hero, and more for their 5th Anniversary celebration. Aside from events, Moonton also gives in-game rewards to players who are frequently playing the game.

Final Thoughts

With their quick matches, straightforward gameplay, and generous in-game rewards, Mobile Legends is worth playing. Unlike other MOBAs where the game gets boring the longer it takes, Mobile Legends offers thrill and excitement in every match. As soon as the game starts, the action takes off quickly, so there’s not even a minute where you stay idle. Ultimately, Mobile Legends is a Games.lol-approved game.

Online video games are video games played online via a mobile device, and are particularly popular when downloaded for free (e.g., “freemium game” – games played for free and where customers can pay for extra features), and can be single-player or multiplayer games (Su, Chiang, Lee, & Chang, 2016). It is also one of the main entertainment features on smartphones, and this could be potentially problematic in terms of dependent use among the students. Moreover, the purpose of this study is to enlighten the students and increase consciousness regarding the effect of mobile game addiction and to advocate prevention towards this problem. Comprehending the gathered data, the researcher decided to conduct this study to find out the effect on the students. In addition, it also aims to suggest possible solutions and preventions to the rapidly increasing of too much usage of online video games that may lead to addiction.

The playing of videogames can be fun and entertaining, but research has consistently shown that a small minority of players experience problematic gaming. Most research to date has focused on online gaming via personal computers and laptops. However, gaming has evolved both in the games that are played and the platforms on which they can be played. One of the biggest growth areas has been in the area of smartphone gaming. The present study investigated the reasons for perceived smartphone game addiction by the users themselves, and how these perceptions compared across different smartphone game genres by analyzing reviews of smartphone games by the users themselves. The data comprised 25,200 game reviews of 140 smartphone games across 14 game genres to examine the most influential factors in addictive smartphone gaming by the individuals that play such games. Game reviews which were written under the heading of 'addiction' or 'addictive' were content analyzed to understand the most important variables associated with what makes a game 'addictive' from a player perspective. Results indicated nine keywords (or their synonyms) to be strongly associated with smartphone games classed as Baddictive^ (i.e., 'challenging,' 'entertainment,' 'friends and family,' 'gameplay,' 'creative,' 'graphics/animation,' 'fun,' 'free from advertisement,' and 'time killer'). The most common keyword associated with a smartphone game being 'addictive' was 'challenging' (n = 5636). The 14 genres clustered into five different categories based upon the identified nine keywords. Given the fact that there has been little published to date in the area of addictive smartphone gaming, the present paper is of existential value.

How to Write an Essay Outline | Guidelines & Examples

Published on August 14, 2020 by Jack Caulfield . Revised on July 23, 2023.

An essay outline is a way of planning the structure of your essay before you start writing. It involves writing quick summary sentences or phrases for every point you will cover in each paragraph , giving you a picture of how your argument will unfold.

Table of contents

Organizing your material, presentation of the outline, examples of essay outlines, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about essay outlines.

At the stage where you’re writing an essay outline, your ideas are probably still not fully formed. You should know your topic  and have already done some preliminary research to find relevant sources , but now you need to shape your ideas into a structured argument.

Creating categories

Look over any information, quotes and ideas you’ve noted down from your research and consider the central point you want to make in the essay—this will be the basis of your thesis statement . Once you have an idea of your overall argument, you can begin to organize your material in a way that serves that argument.

Try to arrange your material into categories related to different aspects of your argument. If you’re writing about a literary text, you might group your ideas into themes; in a history essay, it might be several key trends or turning points from the period you’re discussing.

Three main themes or subjects is a common structure for essays. Depending on the length of the essay, you could split the themes into three body paragraphs, or three longer sections with several paragraphs covering each theme.

As you create the outline, look critically at your categories and points: Are any of them irrelevant or redundant? Make sure every topic you cover is clearly related to your thesis statement.

Order of information

When you have your material organized into several categories, consider what order they should appear in.

Your essay will always begin and end with an introduction and conclusion , but the organization of the body is up to you.

Consider these questions to order your material:

  • Is there an obvious starting point for your argument?
  • Is there one subject that provides an easy transition into another?
  • Do some points need to be set up by discussing other points first?

Within each paragraph, you’ll discuss a single idea related to your overall topic or argument, using several points of evidence or analysis to do so.

In your outline, you present these points as a few short numbered sentences or phrases. They can be split into sub-points when more detail is needed.

The template below shows how you might structure an outline for a five-paragraph essay.

  • Thesis statement
  • First piece of evidence
  • Second piece of evidence
  • Summary/synthesis
  • Importance of topic
  • Strong closing statement

You can choose whether to write your outline in full sentences or short phrases. Be consistent in your choice; don’t randomly write some points as full sentences and others as short phrases.

Examples of outlines for different types of essays are presented below: an argumentative, expository, and literary analysis essay.

Argumentative essay outline

This outline is for a short argumentative essay evaluating the internet’s impact on education. It uses short phrases to summarize each point.

Its body is split into three paragraphs, each presenting arguments about a different aspect of the internet’s effects on education.

  • Importance of the internet
  • Concerns about internet use
  • Thesis statement: Internet use a net positive
  • Data exploring this effect
  • Analysis indicating it is overstated
  • Students’ reading levels over time
  • Why this data is questionable
  • Video media
  • Interactive media
  • Speed and simplicity of online research
  • Questions about reliability (transitioning into next topic)
  • Evidence indicating its ubiquity
  • Claims that it discourages engagement with academic writing
  • Evidence that Wikipedia warns students not to cite it
  • Argument that it introduces students to citation
  • Summary of key points
  • Value of digital education for students
  • Need for optimism to embrace advantages of the internet

Expository essay outline

This is the outline for an expository essay describing how the invention of the printing press affected life and politics in Europe.

The paragraphs are still summarized in short phrases here, but individual points are described with full sentences.

  • Claim that the printing press marks the end of the Middle Ages.
  • Provide background on the low levels of literacy before the printing press.
  • Present the thesis statement: The invention of the printing press increased circulation of information in Europe, paving the way for the Reformation.
  • Discuss the very high levels of illiteracy in medieval Europe.
  • Describe how literacy and thus knowledge and education were mainly the domain of religious and political elites.
  • Indicate how this discouraged political and religious change.
  • Describe the invention of the printing press in 1440 by Johannes Gutenberg.
  • Show the implications of the new technology for book production.
  • Describe the rapid spread of the technology and the printing of the Gutenberg Bible.
  • Link to the Reformation.
  • Discuss the trend for translating the Bible into vernacular languages during the years following the printing press’s invention.
  • Describe Luther’s own translation of the Bible during the Reformation.
  • Sketch out the large-scale effects the Reformation would have on religion and politics.
  • Summarize the history described.
  • Stress the significance of the printing press to the events of this period.

Literary analysis essay outline

The literary analysis essay outlined below discusses the role of theater in Jane Austen’s novel Mansfield Park .

The body of the essay is divided into three different themes, each of which is explored through examples from the book.

  • Describe the theatricality of Austen’s works
  • Outline the role theater plays in Mansfield Park
  • Introduce the research question : How does Austen use theater to express the characters’ morality in Mansfield Park ?
  • Discuss Austen’s depiction of the performance at the end of the first volume
  • Discuss how Sir Bertram reacts to the acting scheme
  • Introduce Austen’s use of stage direction–like details during dialogue
  • Explore how these are deployed to show the characters’ self-absorption
  • Discuss Austen’s description of Maria and Julia’s relationship as polite but affectionless
  • Compare Mrs. Norris’s self-conceit as charitable despite her idleness
  • Summarize the three themes: The acting scheme, stage directions, and the performance of morals
  • Answer the research question
  • Indicate areas for further study

You will sometimes be asked to hand in an essay outline before you start writing your essay . Your supervisor wants to see that you have a clear idea of your structure so that writing will go smoothly.

Even when you do not have to hand it in, writing an essay outline is an important part of the writing process . It’s a good idea to write one (as informally as you like) to clarify your structure for yourself whenever you are working on an essay.

If you have to hand in your essay outline , you may be given specific guidelines stating whether you have to use full sentences. If you’re not sure, ask your supervisor.

When writing an essay outline for yourself, the choice is yours. Some students find it helpful to write out their ideas in full sentences, while others prefer to summarize them in short phrases.

You should try to follow your outline as you write your essay . However, if your ideas change or it becomes clear that your structure could be better, it’s okay to depart from your essay outline . Just make sure you know why you’re doing so.
