National Tire Store was founded in 1990 by Hugh Morrison and his wife, Patti, who had been operating a tire store for five years on a small scale in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. They were approached by a company that funds startup franchise stores and they bought into the plan to develop their single store into a national brand and numerous stores. Although they’ve retired, Hugh and Patti continue to remain active in the oversight of the chain and the changes that have occurred. The chain is focused on U.S. vehicles that run on U.S. tires, made for the greater population rather than for all types of vehicles. Farm, ranch, and recreational vehicle tires are not inventoried at the chain stores.

Grainger’s Tire Store

Grainger’s Tire Store is owned and operated by Lou Grainger. It was established in the city of Spokane in 1979 and currently has ten employees who focus on service and selection for their customers. Grainger’s Tire Store is a direct competitor to Tire World; however, differences are apparent for customers when making comparisons. Grainger’s Tire Store does not offer free air fills or tire checks, nor do they service bicycles, or children’s mobile vehicles. The store does not carry specialty tires, nor does it carry tires for ranch or farm vehicles.

Lou Grainger has built a reputation of being a community-minded business owner, having assisted with several Spokane city departments in their tire repairs and replacements. Tube n’ Lube

In 2020, brothers Lucas and Nico Porterro decided to open a tire store in an abandoned convenience store on the southside of the city of Spokane. If you have many different ideas, writing a business plan will help you evaluate which ones have the highest chance of success. You'll also have to spend time researching your target audience and competitors.

Most importantly, a business plan can help you identify any weaknesses in your business model. It can help you identify potential problems and avoid costly mistakes down the road.

Most investors want to see a business plan before they fund your venture, and you'll need a business plan to qualify for a loan . Writing out a business plan will also help you communicate your vision to new employees, which could help with recruiting.

2. Market demand

Roughly 42% of startups fail because the founders created a product no one wants. That's an avoidable problem, but it's easy to get swept up in the excitement of a new business idea and forget to determine whether there's a product-market fit.

Before you start a new business, you must consider the market demand. Market demand is the amount of a product or service customers are willing to purchase at a specific price. It's driven by many different factors, including the price, economic conditions and customer preferences.

Identifying market demand helps you determine sales and revenue potential. It can also help you develop a pricing strategy, choose your target customer and identify growth opportunities.

A market analysis involves looking at the customers you will be selling your products or services to. An industry analysis looks at the different companies within that industry. You'll want to look at the state of your industry, its growth patterns and income projections.

For example, are you entering into an emerging industry or one that's well-established? There are pros and cons to both scenarios. For example, emerging industries often have less competition and high growth potential.

However, you'll have to spend more time educating your customers since they'll be unfamiliar with the product or service. Since the industry is new, it's impossible to anticipate the types of government regulations it could get hit with in the future.

If an industry is already well-established, it has a proven track record of success. However, there is usually also more competition and a higher barrier to entry.

4. Resources needed

You can't start a business without resources, though your needs will vary depending on the type of business you're launching. When you're starting out, your most important resource is funding since every business needs money to operate. There are ways to cut costs, but every startup incurs a variety of different expenses . Marjorie Taylor Greene to push 'defund New York' plan in wake of Trump verdict: report

R ep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has a drastic new idea to get revenge on the state of New York following former President Donald Trump's 34-count felony conviction in Manhattan for falsification of business records.

According to Politico , "Greene is planning to reinvigorate her push to defund special counsel Jack Smith as part of the appropriations process, we’re told — despite Speaker Mike Johnson telling Playbook last month that he thinks the idea is unworkable. But Greene won’t stop there. She’s planning a push to 'defund New York' by blocking the state from receiving any federal funds — including things like education and housing — an effort that could pick up support from MAGA hardliners."

Trump was convicted after prosecutors working for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg successfully argued that the former president illegally concealed the purpose of $130,000 in hush payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, to conceal an extramarital affair during the 2016 election and interfere with the political process.

This proposal has no chance of actually passing, the report noted, since Republicans have a razor-thin House majority that in practice needs some Democratic cooperation, and a Democrat from New York controls the Senate. However, Greene "could almost certainly complicate Johnson’s hopes of passing appropriations bills this summer" if he refuses to take this idea seriously.

The former president is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, where Judge Juan Merchan has not ruled out ordering prison time, but could also opt for probation and fines.

Greene, a far-right lawmaker known for pushing conspiracy theories, already has a rocky relationship with Johnson , having called a vote to vacate him from the speakership after they fought over appropriation bills and defense aid to Ukraine. Unlike his predecessor Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted in a similar vote led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Johnson survived this challenge after a number of House Democrats crossed over to vote against the measure.

Amazon may soon be dangling yet another perk in front of prospective Prime members: the chance to save big on your monthly cellphone bill.

The company is in talks with wireless carriers about potentially offering a Prime Wireless plan that could range from $0 to $10 per month for Amazon Prime members, Bloomberg reported on Friday. T-Mobile, Verizon, and Dish have all been involved in the talks, according to the report, though the idea could take months to launch and could still fail to pan out.

"We are always exploring adding even more benefits for Prime members, but don't have plans to add wireless at this time," an Amazon spokesperson, Bradley Mattinger, told Insider in a statement.

An AT&T spokesperson told Insider that the company is "not in discussions with Amazon to resell wireless services."

If such a service does end up launching, it would be a significant development in the wireless industry. Amazon is a known disrupter with the patience and ability to spend vast amounts of money to gain market share, and wireless carriers will have to weigh the potential size of such a deal and the chance of growing their customer base with the possible risk of helping establish an eventual competitor.

For Amazon, it's all about juicing Prime membership numbers and keeping existing subscribers further locked in with meaningful perks. That lock-in is especially important if the company were to raise the price of Prime, which it did in 2022, increasing the annual subscription from $119 to $139.

But a low-cost cellphone from Amazon could prove tempting.

Even at $10 a month, a Prime Wireless plan would represent real savings for most people. The average American pays $144 per month for their phone bill, JD Power told CNBC.

According to Bloomberg's report, Amazon is in discussions with wireless carriers to piggyback off their network as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to save on infrastructure-building costs. MVNOs offer more affordable plans — the average phone bill in the US for an MVNO subscriber is $77, per JD Power, and no-frills, low-cost plans around $15 do exist.

Dish and Verizon did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

This is far from Amazon's first foray into the wireless market. Amazon famously launched the Fire phone nearly a decade ago in an exclusive arrangement with AT&T. The product flopped, with then-CEO Jeff Bezos calling the product in a 2018 letter to shareholders "a failure" that helped "accelerate our efforts building Echo and Alexa."

How Prosecutors Made the Case Against Trump

Over six weeks and the testimony of 20 witnesses, prosecutors wove a sprawling story of election interference and falsified business records.

For years, prosecutors debated, fought and even, in at least two cases, resigned over the fate of the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation into Donald J. Trump. Some legal experts predicted it would be the downfall of the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg.

But on Thursday, a jury swiftly and decisively vindicated the risky strategy that Mr. Bragg employed to bring 34 felony counts against the former president.

Prosecutors were helped by state election law, two judges who allowed their novel legal theory to proceed and their ability to make the most of a high-risk witness, Mr. Trump’s former fixer, Michael D. Cohen.

The jury’s verdict — guilty on all 34 felony counts — represented a landmark victory for Mr. Bragg, who claimed a place in history as the first prosecutor to indict, prosecute and convict a former U.S. president.

“I did my job,” he said at a news conference after the verdict. “Our job is to follow the facts without fear or favor and that’s what we did here.”

The Trump Manhattan Criminal Verdict, Count By Count

Former President Donald J. Trump faced 34 felony charges of falsifying business records, related to the reimbursement of hush money paid to the porn star Stormy Daniels in order to cover up a sex scandal around the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors had to persuade jurors that Mr. Trump had falsified records to cover up a sex scandal that threatened to derail his 2016 presidential campaign. They faced an uphill battle, taking jurors on a complex and winding decade-long journey from a Lake Tahoe, Nev., celebrity golf tournament all the way to the Oval Office.

They were buoyed by the fine print of New York State law. Prosecutors needed to show only that Mr. Trump “caused” the business records to be false, rather than orchestrating the scheme or personally falsifying them.

But to make the case that Mr. Trump’s actions rose to the level of a felony, they also had to show that Mr. Trump falsified the records to conceal a second crime. This element of the case discouraged Mr. Bragg’s predecessor, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., from moving forward. But Mr. Bragg, a career prosecutor and something of a legal wonk, pushed his prosecutors to scour the penal code for a workable theory.

After months of internal deliberations, Mr. Bragg settled on an argument that Mr. Trump had violated an obscure state election law. This novel and untested theory — applying a state election law to a federal campaign — became fodder for Mr. Trump’s lawyers, who argued that the prosecutors’ case was flimsy at best. Two judges ruled that the prosecutors had legal grounds to pursue the case, but it will also have to withstand an appeal, which Mr. Trump has already indicated he will file.

Over the course of six weeks and the testimony of 20 witnesses, prosecutors wove a sprawling yet granular story of election interference and falsified business records, convincing 12 New Yorkers beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Trump was guilty of felony crimes. They called many of Mr. Trump’s former employees and allies who, as the prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said in his closing argument, had no motive to fabricate their testimony. If anything, he added, they had an incentive to skew it to help the former president.

Their testimony, coupled with thousands of pages of documentary evidence and Mr. Trump’s own words, allowed prosecutors to bolster their case before the jurors heard from two key witnesses whose credibility would be aggressively attacked: Mr. Cohen and the porn actress Stormy Daniels.

“There is, literally, a mountain of evidence of corroborating testimony that tends to connect the defendant to the crime,” Mr. Steinglass said during his closing argument on Tuesday. “It’s difficult to conceive of a case with more corroboration than this one.”

Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors kicked off the testimony on April 22 by calling David Pecker, the former publisher of The National Enquirer and a friend of Mr. Trump, to the witness stand. Mr. Pecker spent days testifying to the bigger picture prosecutors were trying to convey: Mr. Trump’s scheme to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

Prosecutors described for the jurors the now infamous 2015 meeting in Trump Tower where Mr. Trump and members of his inner circle devised a plot to protect his first presidential campaign. Jurors heard compelling testimony from Mr. Pecker about the scandalous stories he purchased and buried to prevent embarrassment to the Trump campaign, a practice prosecutors referred to as “catch-and-kill.”

While the jurors heard that practice was common in the supermarket tabloid world, prosecutors elicited testimony from Mr. Pecker about how his scheme with Mr. Trump — designed to aid his campaign and influence the election — was extraordinary.

From there, prosecutors methodically revealed the crux of their case: the $130,000 hush-money payment from Mr. Cohen to Ms. Daniels to cover up a sex scandal and the reimbursements to Mr. Cohen that resulted in the fake records.

Hope Hicks, Mr. Trump’s former campaign spokeswoman, described the panic in the Trump campaign just before the 2016 election, following the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape, in which Mr. Trump was caught speaking in vulgar terms about women . Keith Davidson, Ms. Daniels’s former lawyer, described how he capitalized on that concern and negotiated with Mr. Cohen to get the hush-money deal for Ms. Daniels. And Jeffrey McConney, the former Trump Organization controller and longtime loyal employee of Mr. Trump, testified about the reimbursement payments to Mr. Cohen.

Other former and current employees followed suit, slowly explained the accounting minutiae and the path of Mr. Cohen’s reimbursements with checks making their way to Mr. Trump in the Oval Office.

Prosecutors corroborated weeks of testimony with documents, recordings, emails, social media posts, phone records and text messages. Notably, jurors saw — several times — a handwritten note from the former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen H. Weisselberg reflecting the details of the repayment plan to Mr. Cohen (which Mr. Steinglass referred to as a “smoking gun”), and heard conversations that Mr. Cohen recorded that demonstrated Mr. Trump’s knowledge of the hush-money deal.

By reading passages of Mr. Trump’s books, prosecutors depicted the former president as a frugal micromanager who always questioned his invoices, distrusted his employees and had a penchant for revenge. Because Mr. Trump decided not to take the stand in his own defense, this image was never rebutted.

By the time Ms. Daniels and Mr. Cohen were called to the witness stand, they needed only to fill in the gaps.

Ms. Daniels painted a vivid picture of what Mr. Trump was trying to hide from voters: a consensual yet uncomfortable sexual encounter in 2006 in a Lake Tahoe, Nev., hotel room, where Ms. Daniels said there was a power “imbalance” between her and Mr. Trump.

Prosecutors portrayed Mr. Cohen as “the ultimate insider” to Mr. Trump and a “tour guide through the physical evidence.” Mr. Cohen described Mr. Trump’s directive to pay off Ms. Daniels (“Just do it,” Mr. Cohen recalled Mr. Trump’s saying) and their meeting in the Oval Office where Mr. Trump confirmed the plan to reimburse him.

Prosecutors were also helped by Mr. Trump’s lawyers’ decision to call to the stand Robert J. Costello, once Mr. Cohen’s informal legal adviser. One of the defense’s two witnesses, Mr. Costello was uneven and irascible on the stand. Outside the presence of the jury, the judge called him “contemptuous.”

In an intense cross-examination, prosecutors portrayed Mr. Costello as an agent of Mr. Trump who tried to prevent Mr. Cohen from cooperating with law enforcement.

It effectively closed the loop on prosecutors’ narrative of Mr. Trump’s conduct. “The name of the game was concealment,” Mr. Steinglass said in his closing argument, “and all roads lead inescapably to the man who benefited most, the defendant, former President Donald Trump.”
