Essay on Republic Day for Students and Children
500 words essay on republic day.
Essay on Republic Day – India celebrates Republic Day on January 26 annually with a lot of pride and fervor. It is a day that is important to every Indian citizen. It marks the day when India became truly independent and embraced democracy. In other words, it celebrates the day on which our constitution came into effect. On 26 January 1950, almost 3 years post-independence, we became a sovereign, secular, socialist, democratic republic.
History of Republic Day
While we got independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, our country was still lacking a concrete constitution. Moreover, India also did not have any experts and political powers which would help in the functioning of the state affairs smoothly. Â Up until then, the 1935 Government of India Act was basically modified in order to govern, however, that act was more bent towards the colonial rule. Therefore, there was a dire need to form an exclusive constitution that would reflect all that India stands for.
Thus, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar led a constitutional drafting committee on August 28, 1947. Â After drafting, it was presented to the Constituent Assembly by the same committee on November 4, 1947. This whole procedure was very elaborate and took up to 166 days to complete. Moreover, the committee organized sessions were kept open to the public.
No matter the challenges and hardships, our constitutional committee left no stone unturned to include rights for all. It aimed to create the perfect balance so all citizens of the country could enjoy equal rights pertaining to their religions, culture, caste, sex, creed and more. At last, they presented the official Indian constitution to the country on January 26, 1950.
Moreover, the first session of the India Parliament was also conducted on this day. In addition to that, 26 th January also witnessed the swearing-in of Indiaâs first president, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Thus, this day is very important as it marks the end of the British rule and birth of India as a Republic State.

These parades take place in other cities as well, where a lot of schools participate in. It is a delight to watch the children and professionals put in so much effort. The way they grace the parade makes one proud of their country. We also do National Flag Hoisting on this day. In New Delhi, after the President of India hoists our National Flag, 21 guns salute follow it with the national anthem played by the military band.
Further, in schools, March Past takes place and it is mandatory for every student to attend the celebrations. In many schools, they distribute sweets on this day as well. It is celebrated to recognise the significance of being the Sovereign Democratic Republic, which was established on January 26, 1950, following the implementation of the Indian Constitution. Additionally, it is a time to recall and celebrate India's historic independence from British rule. India ultimately gained its independence from British domination on August 15, 1947. For more than 200 years, the British ruled the country.
India gained independence, but a government was urgently needed to ensure the country's smooth operation. The nation's citizens commemorate and honour the great leaders and freedom warriors on this day for their contributions to the country's liberation.
The day that our Constitution was implemented in 1950 is commemorated as Republic Day on January 26 each year. After this day, our country truly became democratic and independent. The diligent effort of great men like Mahatma Gandhi and the many other freedom fighters who fought and gave their lives for the country's sovereignty resulted in the adoption of the Indian Constitution, which is the fundamental law being enacted.
People of all races, religions, colours, and backgrounds come together on this day to commemorate the event with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm. The Indian Military participates in the event and displays the grandeur associated with it in a large parade held in Delhi, the nation's capital. The parade, which begins after the president hoists the national flag and citizens honour martyrs who gave their lives while defending the nation, displays the country's pride and vibrant diversity.
Schools host a variety of cultural events in honour of Republic Day. With tremendous energy and excitement, students take part in different programmes. All educational institutions hold competitions for essay writing, speeches, sketching and painting, among other things. Students also perform plays and skits on the freedom fighters who fought for India's independence.
Republic Day holds a historical significance for the nation. The nation first put the Constitution into effect on January 26, 1950. The Indian National Congress elected Jawaharlal Nehru as its leader, and on January 26, 1930, Poorna Swaraj, or Independence Day, was inaugurated.
Republic Day has a significant historical impact. On August 15, 1947, Indians took their freedom back from the Britishers but we had no constitution, political parties, or governance structure. India put the Constitution into effect on January 26, 1950. On January 26, 1930, Poorna Swaraj was proclaimed, and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was chosen to lead the Indian National Congress. However, it was only on August 15, 1947 that we gained our independence.
After India gained independence, a unique constitutive parliament was chosen to establish the Indian Constitution. Dr B.R. Ambedkar headed the constitution-drafting committee. Other nations' constitutions were also considered when drafting Indiaâs constitution. The Indian Constitution was created, at last, 166 days later.
It was designed to guarantee equal rights to all Indian citizens, regardless of their religion, culture, caste, sex, or creed. The Constitution of India was adopted and put into effect on January 26, 1950, and that day is known as Republic Day. Additionally, it signifies the end of British control and the establishment of India as a Republic State.
The countryâs capital, New Delhi, hosts the Republic Day parade, which the Ministry of Defense organises. India's 3-day Republic Day festivities begin at the gates of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's residence, with a meaningful ceremony. It continues on Rajpath through the India Gate to Raisina Hill.
India's cultural, social, and military strengths are on display in the parade. Nine to twelve distinct Indian Army battalions march past alongside the Navy and Air Force while dressed in full regalia and official insignia. This parade includes twelve contingents from different paramilitary groups in India and police forces. The President of India, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, accepts the salute.
Every Indian citizen values Republic Day. This holiday, one of India's national celebrations, evokes everyone's sense of patriotism. This is one of the occasions that aids in introducing the younger generation to our wonderful Indian heritage and culture. This is the day on which we honour the great leaders and freedom warriors who gave their lives in defence of the nation.
Republic Day also teaches us the value of togetherness and how it supported the Indian freedom movement in its struggle against the British Empire, which was far more potent. Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolence movement showed us how to overcome an adversary far more powerful than us without using force or spilling any blood. The Constitution ensures that there is no caste, creed, or religious discrimination in the country, and Republic Day serves as a reminder of this.
On the eve of Republic Day, the Indian President awards âPadmasâ to the people of India. To receive a Bharat Ratna or Bhushan Padma prize, you do not need to hold a specific title. A special committee nominates people. The Bharat Ratna and the Padma Awards are the two highest civilian honours. There are three different categories for the Padma Bhushan Award: Padma Vibhusan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
The second-highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhusan, is granted for exceptional and distinguished service.
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian honour granted for exceptionally meritorious service.
The Padma Shri is India's fourth-highest civilian honour, granted to individuals for exemplary service.

- Republic Day Essay
Republic Day is a Significant Moment in India's History
26 th January is celebrated as Republic Day in our country. On this day in 1950, the constitution of our country was formally adopted and India became a fully sovereign state. The fundamental law of the country, the Constitution, was enacted out of the diligence and hard work of great men like Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who fought and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country. So, the 26 th of January was declared a National holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India ever since.
After Independence, the country did not have any self-made official Constitution, instead, its laws were based on modified colonial acts. So, establishing an official constitution for our own country was the utmost task in front of the Government of India. Our constitution is the result of the hard work and struggle of the esteemed members of the Constituent Assembly under the Presidency of Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Ambedkar was the Father of our Constitution. After deeply studying the various constitutions of other countries, our founding fathers framed our Constitution and it is the lengthiest constitution in the world. It reflects upon the dedication and foresight of these great men. That is how the Constitution came into being. It took two years, eleven months, and eighteen days to complete the Constitution. Though it was enacted and adopted by the constituent assembly on 26 th November 1949, it came into force on 26 th January, 1950.
Significance of 26 th January
It is to be noted that January 26 had a great significance in Indiaâs struggle for Swaraj. The Congress Session at Lahore on December 29, 1929, had passed a resolution declaring Purna Swaraj (Complete Independence) as Indiaâs goal. It was also decided that the 26 th of January should be observed all over India as Purna Swaraj Day. The complete Independence Day was for the first time celebrated on January 26 th, 1930. It continued to be so observed until 1947. On achieving Independence, August 15 became our Independence Day.
January 26 th , however, marked a great event in Indiaâs struggle for freedom. It was, therefore, in the favour of all that January 26 should be selected as the Date of Commencement of the new Constitution.
Therefore, this day is celebrated as a day of national significance with great joy and pride.

Looking at the yearâs notable video essays, many grapple with issues at the heart of contemporary media itself. There are dissections of video-playing tools, exposĂ©s of how corporations restrict access, contrasts between tropes and reality, and thorough investigations of trends in plagiarism and/or fabrication. As the essay landscape refines, it seems to peer inward as much as out.
On the making of this list: Iâve been trying to stay up to date on video essays for a while, and have been contributing to lists and/or voting in polls about the best videos made each year since 2018. Over this time, doing these kinds of roundups has gotten exponentially more difficult. As YouTube has grown to become a mega-business hosting powerful creators (part of the general trend of social media video sites becoming the new primary forum for cultural influence), Iâve seen essayists I once thought of as niche accrue follower counts in the millions. Itâs been surreal. For this yearâs list, I tried to shake things up by keeping the essayists who have appeared in previous editions to a minimum, along with the usual considerations about incorporating a diversity of creator backgrounds and video style. Once again, the videos are presented simply in order of publishing date.
[Also, Iâm going to preface this with a mega mea culpa: It was absolute malpractice of me to not include Platformer Toolkit by Game Makerâs Toolkit in the best video essays of 2022 list . I donât have a good excuse, either; I just straight up missed the essay at the time it came out, and then overlooked it during my catch-up phase at the end of the year. But an essay about game design that instructs you on its ideas by letting you actively engage with them through interactivity feels like a breakthrough in the form.]
Practices of Viewing by Johannes Binotto
Johannes Binotto is a Swiss researcher and lecturer who has been adding to his âPractices of Viewingâ series for several years now, and every installment preceding 2023âs videos, âEndingâ and âDescription,â is well worth checking out. With each essay, Binotto examines a specific element of the media viewing interface, and how they affect an audienceâs engagement with it. Some subjects, like fast-forwarding, pausing, or muting, may seem like obvious touchstones, while others, like sleep, are more out-there approaches to the conversation.
A History of the World According to Getty Images by Richard Misek
This technically debuted last year, making the rounds at film festivals, but it was made available online this past spring, so Iâm including it here. A History of the World According to Getty Images is a great example of a work embedding its own ethos into its construction. Misek, another academic, is scrutinizing how for-profit companies (specifically Getty Images) mediate information thatâs supposed to be available for all. In practice, a great deal of visual material thatâs technically in the public domain can only be accessed in decent quality by paying an archive like Getty. Misek circumvents this by paying the fee to use select footage in this essay and then making this essay itself available for anyone to cite and clip from, putting that footage out into the world for real.
The Faces of Black Conservatism by F.D Signifier
I feel that video essays that consist mainly of the creator talking directly into a camera stretch the definition of the term â to me, the best cinematic and argumentative potential of the form lies in the power of editing. F.D Signifierâs contrast between fictional depictions of Black conservatives and the reality of how they appear across media exemplifies is what sets him apart in this genre: not just the depth of his thought (though it is considerable), but also the playful ways in which he presents the objects of his discussion. The running gag here in which he films himself holding hairstyling tools over the heads of various people on his screen had me laughing harder with each appearance.
Games That Donât Fake the Space by Jacob Geller/Why We Canât Stop Mapping Elden Ring by Ren or Raven
I donât actually think this is the best essay Jacob Geller released this year (that would be either âGames that Arenât Gamesâ or âHow Can We Bear to Throw Anything Away?â ), but it pairs so incredibly well with Renata Priceâs essay (an impressive video debut building on her experience as a games critic) that it felt more appropriate to present them as a double feature. Both videos are sharp examinations of the ways that video games conjure physical space. Geller illuminates the shortcuts and tricks games often employ through examples of ones that, as the title suggests, donât use such devices, while Price analyzes the impulses beneath what one could call the âcartographic instinctâ in open-world games.
Why Do Brands Keep Doing These Crazy Influencer Trips?? by Mina Le
Itâs been encouraging in recent years to see Le grow more confident in her mixing of media in her videos on fashion and film/television. You might remember the controversy around Shein granting influencers a limited hangout in a clothing factory this past summer. Le contextualizes this story by delving into the wider, supremely odd world of sponsored tours. If you watch this on your phone, the transitions between Le speaking to the camera and the clips of TikToks and other videos and photos flow together in a manner not unlike how one would scroll a social media feed, creating queasy resonance between message and medium.
Feeling Cynical About Barbie by Broey Deschanel / The Plastic Feminism of Barbie by Verilybitchie
I present these two videos not as a contrarian attack on Barbie (a film I enjoyed), but to highlight the important role of considered critical voices that dissent against prevailing opinions. Both Maia Wyman and Verity Ritchie unpack the issues with a heavily corporate product attempting to capitalize on feminist sentiment. Ritchie emphasizes the history of Barbie the brand and how the movie fits into it, while Wyman reads more into the specifics of the filmâs plot. Together these videos do a good job of elaborating on legendary critic Amy Taubinâs Barbie reaction : âItâs about a fucking doll !ââ
TikTok Gave Me Autism: The Politics of Self Diagnosis by Alexander Avila
Thereâs a lot of social media discourse over who can and canât â and should or shouldnât â claim the label of âautistic.â As someone whoâs struggled with both the logistics and appropriateness of sussing out whether Iâm on the spectrum, this video hit me hard. There are parts that feel like they veer so far into philosophical query that they threaten to obfuscate rather than elucidate the subject, but the essay as a whole is undeniably compelling. Avilaâs own confessed stake in the question of self-diagnosis is itself affecting. This is the most searingly personal video on this list, uniting self-inquiry with rigorous research.
Chaste/Unchaste by Maryam Tafakory
This years shortest entry is a deceptively simple interrogation of the concept of âchastityâ as defined by Iranian censorship standards. Takafory is a veteran of the academic essay scene, and Iâm delighted by the opportunity to present her work to a wider audience. The videoâs text is minimal, and its visuals are simply a montage of clips from Iranian films, but the implicit question of propriety grips the viewer with each cut.
Journey to Epcot Center: A Symphonic History by Defunctland
This is the most boundary-pushing essay on this yearâs list. Completely lacking commentary, it instead emphasizes visuals and reenactment in telling the story of how Disneyâs Epcot park went from concept to realization over the decades. Kevin Perjurer also provides a detailed set of notes that are meant to be read along with watching the video, further demanding oneâs full attention. This is a direct acknowledgement of how we use the internet, the windowed experience of browsing and watching videos. I donât think everything works; many of the reenactments, while impressively professional, feel somewhat redundant. But Iâd prefer a creator take big swings that result in a few flaws rather than play it safe, and I hope both Perjurer and others continue in such an experimental vein.
Plagiarism and You(Tube) by Hbomberguy
Harry Brewis is popular enough that he doesnât need any boost, but even in the very brief period since this videoâs release as of the time of writing, Plagiarism and You(Tube) has made seismic impact on the YouTuber scene . Does it need to be almost four hours long? Maybe not. Yet the sheer volume of evidence it pulls together to support various accusations of plagiarism does seem vital. The main focus of the piece, James Somerton, went into lockdown over the fairly comprehensive evidence presented against him (and has since attempted to apologize ). Iâm seeing conversations flourish around the endemic problem of plagiarism on the internet and what is to be done about it, and a surge of creators recognizing and calling out others who have taken their work without credit. Thereâs a deeper issue at play here, which is that the growth of YouTube entertainment has come with a truly daunting mountain of crap content that nonetheless attracts views (and thus dollars).
On the subject of low quality standards on YouTube, beyond plagiarism, Todd in the Shadowsâ recent exhaustive effort to fact-check various false claims Somerton has made in his work is a useful supplement to this video.
