At school, he shocked the village school teacher by learning the entire alphabet in one day. As a child, he composed a hymn. This hymn is included in the secret Guru Granth Sahib.

Nanak as a boy was different from other boys of his age. He used to sit in meditation for hours together while the other boys played. He was very honest, very pure, and very spiritual. One day his father gave him twenty rupees to do some business. He used the money for feeding the saints. On asked by the father about the business he said that he had invested the sum in a pure, holy, and true business. He was put under the service of Governor Daulat Khan Lodhi of Sultanpur. He was made storekeeper. He worked there very honestly and sincerely. One day after taking his bath in the Kali Bai river he went into the forest. There he heard some celestial voice urging him to teach humanity the worship of God. From that day he became a saint.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism. Sikhism is a form of Hinduism with the evident influence of Islam on it. Sikhism accepts the Hindu doctrines of karma and sansar, Maya and Moksha.  In shares with Hinduism faith in the efficacy of the holy name and the grace of the Guru.

Nanak was born at Nankana village in the district of Gujranwala near Lahore (now in Pakistan) on the Vaishakhi Purnina in 1469. His father’s name was Kalu and mother’s name was Tripada. At the age of fourteen, he married Sulaghani and they had two sons Srichand and Lakshmichand. At the age of twenty seven, Nanak left his house and became a Sannyasi. He tried to abolish the forms and rituals, but emphasized the Oneness of God and the brotherhood of man. He wanted a casteless society. He believed in the dignity and value of labour and in the usefulness of the life of the house holder.

He travelled widely within this country and upto Baghdad abroad. The Gurus who succeeded him are — Guru Angad, Amar Das, Ramdas, Arjun Dev, Har Govind, Hari Roy, Hari Krishna, Teg Bahadur and Guru Govind Singh. To him there was no difference between a Hindu and a Muslim. His disciples came from both the sects. Mardana, a Muslim devotee was his favourite disciple. And among the Hindu disciples were Bhai-Buddha (Ramdas), Angad, his son Srichand, etc.

The simple poplular songs, Viz. “Ballad” were the method of Nanak’s preaching. The collection of his teachings are in Gurumukhi language and is known as “Guru Grantha Sahib”, which is the most holy book among the Sikh community. Nanak said —

“None is mine, none is an outsider” Said Nanak, “All are my brethren.”

His teachings were for all sects of people — To a Muslim teacher, Nanak said : “Make kindness thy mosque, sincerity thy prayercarpet, justice and Law thy Quran, modesty thy circumcision, civility thy fasting. Thus you can he a Muslim. To farmers, he said: “Make thy body the field, good works the seed, irrigate with God’s name; make thy heart the cultivator; God will germinate in thy heart and thou shall thus obtain the dignity of liberation”. To merchants, he said: “Make the knowledge that life is frail thy shop, the true name thy stock-in-trade, meditation and contemplation make thy piles of vessels. Put the true name into them. To a soldier, he said, “Make honesty thy horse, truth thy saddle, continuance thy armour; and truth thy sword and shield: Mildness is food, force is oppression, and Justice is pure”. Nanak also said :” Truth is  higher than everything; but higher still is true living. Religion is not in mere prayers; he who sees all as equal is religious”.

Nanak’s religious life is a mystery and he never uttered his Guru’s name. He said, to attain Salvation or Moksha, Guru’s blessing is essential. Also he said, “Three things are difficult to obtain in this world and depend on the mercy of God — the Human birth, the desire for salvation and the company of the great — souled ones like Sadguru.” The essence of his teachings, will be found in his book “Japaji”, where he emphasized on “OM” as the symbol. He was the Nirankari Bhakta (Advaitism). He said, the Omnipresent Cod is inside every human being, do not try to search for him in Temples, Mosques, Churches etc. Nanak said, “EKONG SAT VIPRA BAHUDHA BADANTI” — He who exists is one, the sages call Him by various names. He died in 1538.

He was born on Kartik Purnima in Samvat 1526 (the English year 1469) at Rai-Bhoe-di Talwandi, present-day Sheikhupura (Pakistan), at a place famous as Nankana Sahib.

His father’s name was Mehta Kalyan Das, and his mother’s name was Tripta Devi. His mother highly inspired him. Since childhood, Guru Nanak Ji was of sharp intellect. Nanak Ji used to go to school, but he did not feel like studying. Nanak Ji dropped out of school at 7-8 years old and started spending all his time in spiritual contemplation and Satsang.

He got married to a woman named Sulakhni at the age of 16. Then, his two sons named Srichand and Lakshmichand were also born to them. Guru Nanak is the first Guru (Adi Guru) of the Sikhs. His followers address him by the names Guru Nanak, Baba Nanak and Nanakshah. The name of Talwandi changed to Nankana in the name of Nanak.

He died on September 22, 1539 AD, at 70. The birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is celebrated every year in the name of ‘Guruparab’. According to the Hindu calendar, his birth anniversary is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Kartik, also known as ‘Karthik Purnima’. It is the main festival of Sikhs.

People who believe in Sikhism worship Guru Dev Nanak Ji, go to the Gurudwara, and ask for prayers from him. According to Nanak Ji, God is one; he is present in everyone’s conscience, so his vision can also be seen in the soul.

It is pointless to seek him. Tirtha, fasting, namaz, sandalwood, tilak, garland etc., are all useless means. Through them, we cannot reach God. Through spiritual practice, only man can see God in his heart. Nanak was able to get her interviewed.

He started living in Kartarpur in the last days of his life. Finally, He had appointed his beloved disciple Lahna as his successor in Guru Angad’s name during his lifetime. In 1539, at about 70, Nanak changed his Chola (he went to heaven). His message and ideals guide us even today.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the founder of Sikhism and the first Sikh guru. He is popularly known as Baba Nanak. There are ten Sikh Gurus. His birthday is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in a village in Lahore which is now in Pakistan. From a very early age, he started visiting all religious places. It is said that he went to places to spread his ideas on religion. He mixed the message of humanity from every religion. He was greatly influenced by Sufi teachings.

The teachings of Guru Nanak Ji are written in ‘Guru Granth Sahib’. It is written in Gurumukhi language. It is a holy book for Sikhs who worship it as a Guru. There are three main teachings. Sharing and helping those who are poor, earning money without cheating anyone and to repeat the name of god to control one’s weaknesses. Weaknesses like anger, greed, pride, the ego can be controlled if one remembers god every day.

Guru Nanak Ji believed that there is only one god and he is inside everyone. He said that God is the only truth in the world. He spread the idea of equality, love, truth and goodness. He was against rituals and priest and said that everyone should pray to God directly.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Essay In English

Guru Nanak was the first Guru of Sikhs who arrived in this world to impart knowledge of God to mankind. Guru Nanak was born in the year 1469, in a village named Talwandi, which is now known as "Nankana Sahib". It is situated in Pakistan. His father's name was Mehta Kali and his mother's name was Tripta. 

He possessed a sister, Nanki, who was five years his senior. Nanak was a different child. He did not participate in normal sports and other games for fun, but would instead spend his time in meditation in a lonely place. He was of extremely sober habits. He would speak little and eat little and would always lend a helping hand to the needy ones. He was very respectful to his parents but would rebel against them when they did not allow him to serve the poor. 

He wanted to serve the poor people to please his God, as he knew that God loves all his children, and he gets pleased when you serve them. He used to, and he gets pleased when you serve them. He used to rebel against everyone, who interfered in his affairs and did not allow him to serve mankind. In the love of God, he would write down hymns and sing in a melodious voice. 

One of his hymns was—"Great is my Lord, Great is his creation. Great are the men, whose hearts remain attached to his service. God alone is the giver of all boons and comforts to his people. He is one and everlasting being of light. Those who practice truth and perform service for him shall get the reward. The sinners shall be punished in the hell". 

The teachers of Guru Nanak used to get surprised by his intelligence. They understood he was a divine being and would one day become the guiding light of this world. Nanak was against the superstitions and wrong beliefs of people. He did not allow the people to follow the wrong track. He protested against the people who would differentiate others on the basis of color, caste, religion, and sex. He told others to love every living being on the earth, as it's the creation of God and God wants everyone to be happy. 

It is all due to one's past sins, that one has to suffer in this world. One's sufferings can end if one has firm faith in God and work for him. Service to God and mankind is the greatest service in the world.

The people who fight in the name of religion are the greatest fools on this earth. One must worship one's own image of God but must deal with other religions with equal respect. Guru Nanak's father was worried about his career. He wanted to make Nanak a rich man. For some years, Nanak was given the occupation of the cattle grazer. 

He used to graze the cattle in the noon and thereafter when the sun would become hot and unbearable, he would keep the cattle in a shady patch and while the cattle took rest, he would sit on the grassland and fall asleep. One day when he was fast asleep under a shady tree, a strange phenomenon took place. All of a sudden, a huge cobra appeared and gazed at Nanak. He saw the divine light around the face of Nanak and came to know that he was a divine being. 

He spread his big hood around the face of Nanak to save him from the scorching heat of the sun. His hood served the purpose of the shade and saved Nanak from the piercing heat of the sun. In the meantime, Rai Bala, who was the employer of his father, came to pass that way. He was surprised to see the poisonous cobra giving shade to Nanak. Firstly, he thought that the cobra has killed Nanak and rushed in that direction, but, later on, when he found that Nanak was fully hale and hearty, 

he praised God and said "Nanak is very close to God. It was God, who had sent the cobra to give shade to him. What a wonder! What a great blessing! Praise to God." Nanak's father Kali was against Nanak for spending his time in spiritual pursuit. He would spend his time with saints and prophets and remain away from the materialistic activities, but Kali did not like it. 

He wanted Nanak to do some business and would give him money to establish it, but Nanak would spend all the money to feed the poor. Kali used to get angry at Nanak and slap him, but Nanak continued to work for poor and needy people, as per the direction of God. 

On September 22, 1539, he left his body to mingle with God. The Hindus and Muslims began to fight for the last cremation rituals of Guru Nanak. Hindus said "We would cremate him as per our rituals" and Muslims said," We would cremate him according to our own customs." Nanak's soul listened to their argument. Finally, when they tried to carry the body, it was not found. Nanak had made the body invisible to avoid the quarrel.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the first of the Ten Sikh Gurus whose birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘Gurpurab’ which is regarded as the most auspicious day for Sikhs all over the world. This holy saint was born when evil was prevailing at its peak in the world that required a savior. After Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth, the darkness of ignorance was dispelled and replaced with the light of knowledge. He dispelled the darkness and lit up the world.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birth and His Childhood

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on 15th April 1469 at Talwandi Raibhoye in District Sheikhupura which is in Pakistan presently. This pious place is known as Nankana Sahib. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s father was Mehta Kaliyan Ji more popularly known as Mehta Kalu while his mother was Tripta; his sister was Bebe Nanki. His Birth Anniversary is observed every year on Full Moon Day in Kartik (November) as per the Sikh Calendar. Many learned people believe that Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on 20 October 1469.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Education

At the tender age of seven Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was sent to a learned man Pandha for his education and learning. His teacher was highly impressed with his sound knowledge of ethics and spirituality. As a student Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was obedient and spiritual. Besides learning Persian and Sanskrit skilfully Guru Ji also acquired the knowledge of Mathematics.

An incident of Sachha Sauda

After the Divine Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had completed his studies his father gave him twenty rupees and asking him to make a wise investment in establishing a good business sent him to the city.On the way Guru ji came across two saints(Sadhus) who were famished as they had not eaten a crumb for a long period of time. Thereafter, he returned home which angered his father. According to Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji it was the wisest investment (Sachha Sauda) to feed the two hunger stricken saints. His divinity was beyond the comprehension of the ordinary.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Service

Guru Ji’s mind and heart were far away from worldly and material pleasures so he could not work for materialistic gains. He was therefore sent to Sultanpur to his sister, Bibi Nanki’s house where he was appointed at Nawab Daulat Khan’s warehouse. Here too Guru Ji helped the poor and

the needy by generously distributing the grains to them free of cost. Somehow the Nawab learned about it all and he immediately went to look up the accounts but found everything in perfect order. After this incident occurred Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji withdrew from this job.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Enlightenment

In Sultanpur Lodhi, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji used to meditate on the bank f the river Bein. One day He went to bathe in the same river but for three days He remained underwater. When He emerged from the river after three days He had attained Enlightenment. Thereafter, He went on a world tour with a mission to serve humanity.

Guru Ji’s father was highly perturbed to see his son (Guru Ji) least interested in worldly or materialistic gains so he arranged for Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s wedlock with Bibi Sulakhani but all His attention was focused on Spirituality and the Divine. When Guru Ji meditated His cattle would graze in somebody’s fields and destroy their crops and consequently, Guru Ji’s father would get complaints from people which disturbed him(his father a great deal. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was blessed with two sons – Shree Chand and Lakshmi Das.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Travels or Divine Journeys or His Four Udasis

Guru Ji’s long travels in East, West, North, and South are known as Four Udasis (which include holy text based on his experiences); he visited local religious centers and interacted with priests, Seers, pirs, and other scholars ( the holy people associated with different religions in different regions of India) and professed His newfound path.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Enlightened wrongdoers

Guru Ji enlightened some wrongdoers bringing them on the path of righteousness thereby reforming them; these were Malik Bhago, Sajjan Thug, and many others. Kirat Karo or Work Hard and Honestly, Naam Japo or Always Remember God, and Wannd Chhako or Share With The Needy was the Holy Sermon of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Ji also reformed society by guiding and leading people to the path of righteousness asking them to give up their wrong ways of living.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a great poet and musician too; He composed nineteen ‘Ragas’ his holy Gurbani which has been incorporated in Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji the Holy Scripture and Last Guru among the ten Sikh Gurus. His followers cherish Gurus ‘Bani’ to date.

Guru Ji Says   “Pawan Guru Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahatt” Meaning “Wind is Guru, Water is Father, the Earth is Mother”.

Shri Guru Nanak Devi Ji passes on His Glorious Lineage to Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji declared Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji ( who was originally Bhai Lehna Ji but was given this new name of Angad Dev Ji by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji) His descendant passing on this glorious lineage to him and Himself He merged with the Supreme Light in the year 1539. This is how the worldly Journey of the Great Guru came to a close but His name lives on as He is the Immortal Being.

Nanak’s parents were Kalyan Chand Das Bedi, popularly shortened to Mehta Kalu, and Mata Tripta. His father was the local patwari (accountant) for crop revenue within the village of Talwandi.

Essay on Guru Nanak Dev Ji in English (Download PDF) – India has been a religious country. The Gurus of India have given a spiritual message to mankind for their welfare. Whenever a man starts moving towards darkness by wandering in ignorance, then a wise man comes to this earth to show them the way with the light of his knowledge. In such a situation, Guru Nanak Dev descended on this land.

The human organization, which was started by Guru Nanak Dev to show the path of peace and truth to the then human, was initially named Nanak Panth and later it became famous as Sikhism and Khalsa Panth. Guru Nanak was a religious architect of the Middle Ages, a revolutionary reformer, a great era builder, a staunch patriot, a benefactor of the oppressed, and a visionary national builder.

Birth Introduction

Guru Nanak was born on Kartik Purnima in 1469 in a village called Talwandi, fifteen kos from Lahore, which is now called ‘Nankana Sahib’. This place is now in Pakistan. Nanak’s father, Kalu Chandra Vedi, was the manager of the Rajput ruler of Talwandi. Nanak’s elder sister was called Nanaki because of her birth at maternal grandfather. According to his name, people started calling him Nanak.

Nanak was a person of genius and extraordinary personality since childhood. Since childhood, Nanak used to sit like sages and sadhus and talk like them. He loved solitude. He used to go into solitude and get absorbed in meditation. At the age of eight, he was sent to study. He used to talk greatly, but he did not feel like reading and writing.

Suffering Life

When Nanak grew up, his father got him married because he wanted to engage him in some kind of domestic work. His father asked him to take care of farming but he did not feel like doing farming. They wanted to hire him for some job but refused him the job. Then they were engaged in business work.

One day his father sent him to Lahore for ₹40 and asked him to do the real deal. A group of sadhus was going on the way. He saw that the monks were hungry. He thought father had asked for a clear deal. What can be more important than feeding a hungry person? So he spent all the money on feeding the sages and returned home empty-handed.

Home-Abandonment and Separation

Despite many efforts by Nanak’s father, there was no difference in Nanak’s behavior. His tendency did not seem to be in the social work of the householder. He loved the company of sages. He did not return home for several days. One day he left the house completely and joined a Satsang.

He used to go from place to place and recite Satsang to the people, whoever came in contact with him became his disciple. His father sent a singer named Sardana to explain and bring him back, but Nanak also needed a singer for bhajan kirtan. As soon as Sardana came in contact with Nanak, he became his disciple and he himself never went back.

Nanak Dev’s Journeys

It was very difficult to travel long distances in those days. Nanak’s mind yearned to remove the sufferings of the oppressed. He used to go to the people and talk about human welfare. He knew that ignorance is the cause of human suffering.

That’s why they used to travel long distances to spread knowledge. He spread his knowledge by going to every nook and corner of India. On the fourth trip, he went out of the country to Balochistan, Mecca, Medina, and Baghdad. People of every religion, every class, every caste who came in contact with him during these journeys became his disciples.

Nanak’s Objectives

According to Nanak Ji, God is one, He is present in everyone’s conscience, so his vision can be seen in the soul also. It is pointless to seek him. Tirth, fasting, namaz, sandalwood, tilak, garland, etc. are all useless means. Through them, we cannot reach God.

Through spiritual practice, the only man can see God in his heart. Nanak was able to get her interviewed. Only by truth, non-violence, friendship, brotherhood, honesty can we move towards that path.

Guru Nanak (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) is the founder of Sikhism and is the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, the eleventh guru being the living Guru, Guru Granth Sahib.

गुरु नानक का जन्म कब और कहां हुआ?

गुरु नानक जयंती का जन्म कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन 1469 में राएभोए के तलवंडी नामक स्थान पर हुआ था। गुरु नानक के जन्म स्थान को ननकाना साहिब के नाम से जाना जाता है। गुरु नानक की जन्म स्थली वर्तमान में भारतीय सीमा के उस पार पाकिस्तान में है। उनकी माता का नाम तृप्ता और पिता का नाम लाला कल्याण राय (मेहता कालू) था। उनके पिता तलवंडी गांव में पटवारी थे। गुरु नानक बचपन से ही बड़ी तीक्ष्ण बुद्धि के थे। वे तार्किक बातें करते थे। लोग उनकी बातों से बड़े प्रभावित होते थे। गुरु नानक ने अपने जीवन में खूब यात्राएं कीं और यह संदेश दिया कि ईश्वर एक है।

सिख धर्म के संस्थापक गुरु नानक जयंती ने शांति, प्रेम और भाईचारे को प्रोत्साहित किया। स्कूल शिक्षा के दौरान अपने प्रश्नों से वे गुरुजनों को अक्सर चकित कर देते थे। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि ईश्वर केवल एक ही है और हर कोई अनुष्ठानों या मूर्तियों के बिना भी ईश्वर का अनुभव कर सकता है। उन्होंने लोगों से एक-दूसरे से प्यार के साथ रहने का संदेश दिया और जाति व धार्मिक विभाजन को नकार दिया।

गुरु नानक का जन्म कार्तिक मास की पूर्णिमा के दिन 1469 को तत्कालीन दिल्ली सल्तनत के लाहौर जिले के राए भोए के तलवंडी (वर्तमान ननकाना साहिब, पाकिस्तानी पंजाब) में हुआ था। वह सिखों के 10 गुरुओं में से पहले गुरु थे। लोगों के प्रति अपने प्यार और जुनून की बदौलत उन्होंने गांवों में लोकप्रियता हासिल की। वह अत्यधिक कल्पनाशील भी थे। दुनिया के प्रति उनके दृष्टिकोण ने सभी को मंत्रमुग्ध कर दिया।

गुरु नानक जयंती का हृदय बचपन से ही उदारता और सेवाभाव से भरा था। 17 वर्ष की आयु में नानक जी के पिता ने व्यापार करने के लिए 20 रुपये दिए। नानक अपने पड़ोसी मित्र बाला के साथ व्यापार के लिए गए। रास्ते में एक स्थान पर उन्हें भूखे साधु-महात्मा मिले नानक ने पिता जी के द्वारा दिए 20 रुपये से राशन खरीद कर उन साधुओं को खाना खिलाया और खुद खाली हाथ घर लौट आए। घर वापसी पर पिता से डांट भी खाई लेकिन उन्होंने कहा कि आपने ही कहा था की सच्चा सौदा करना है और इससे सच्चा व खरा सौदा और क्या हो सकता है।

सुल्तानपुर में काम करते हुए उन्होंने अपना सारा पैसा जरूरतमंदों को दान कर दिया। उनकी बातों से लोग प्रभावित होते गए और अनुयायियों की संख्या बढ़ती गई। 1499 में उन्होंने उपदेश देना शुरू किया और यात्राएं आरंभ कर दीं। उनके चारों दिशाओं की यात्रा को चार उदासियां के नाम से जाना जाता है। उस समय उनकी उम्र महज 30 वर्ष थी। 1507 में उन्होंने परिवार को छोड़कर भारत, अफगानिस्तान, फारस और अरब के प्रमुख स्थानों का भ्रमण किया। उनके अनुयायियों में विभिन्न जातियों, पंथों और धर्मों के लोग शामिल थे। यात्रा के दौरान उन्होंने कई बानी की रचना की। उनकी रचनाएं श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब, जपुजी साहिब आदि में दर्ज हैं।

श्री गुरु नानक जयंती जी ने मूल मंत्र के साथ निराकार भगवान की व्याख्या की। उनके द्वारा प्रतिपादित गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब जी का प्रथम मंत्र है-

'एक ओंकार सतिनामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुर परसादि।'

इसका अर्थ है- ईश्वर एक हैं, सत्य-स्वरूप हैं और सृष्टि के रचयिता एवं सर्वव्यापक हैं। वे निर्भय, निर्वैर एवं समय और काल के परे हैं। परमात्मा अजन्मा है और स्वयंभू है। उनकी कृपा शीघ्र ही प्राप्त की जा सकती है।

'आदि सचु, जुगादि सचु, है भी सचु नानक होसी भी सचु' अर्थात, एक वही शाश्वत है, सत्य है। जगत बाहर से जैसा भी दिखाई दे, वस्तुतः तो वह ब्रह्म ही है। पहले भी वही शाश्वत था और 'जुगादि सचु' यानी सारे युगों के बीतने पर भी वही शाश्वत रह जाएगा।

जब गुरु नानक लगभग 55 वर्ष के थे, तब वे करतारपुर चले गए और सितंबर 1539 में अपने निधन तक वहीं रहे। गुरु नानक के चार प्रमुख शिष्य थे। मरदाना, लहना, बाला और रामदास। गुरु नानक के बाद भाई लहना उनके उत्तराधिकारी बने। उनका नाम बदलकर गुरु अंगद कर दिया गया। 22 सितंबर, 1539 को, करतारपुर में, अपने उत्तराधिकारी की घोषणा करने के कुछ ही समय बाद, गुरु नानक का 70 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया। जहां उनका निधन हुआ वहां करतारपुर साहिब गुरुद्वारा बना हुआ है।

अखंड पाठ : गुरु पर्व के दौरान गुरुद्वारे में अखंड पाठ का आयोजन होता है। यह निरंतर पाठ तीन दिन तक चलता रहता है। श्रद्धालु और आयोजन से जुड़े लोग अखंड पाठ में हिस्सा लेते हैं। गुरु पर्व के दिन इस पाठ का समापन किया जाता है।

सजावट : गुरु पर्व के अवसर पर गुरुद्वारे को ताजे फूलों से सजाया जाता है। रंग-बिरंगी रोशनी से पूरा दरबार जगमग रहता है। गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब को सिंहासन पर रखकर खूबसूरती के साथ सजाया जाता है। पर्व के दौरान काफी संख्या में श्रद्धालु पहुंचते हैं। उनके रहने और लंगर के लिए बड़े-बड़े भव्य पंडाल का निर्माण कराया जाता है।

गुरबानी कीर्तन : पर्व के दौरान देश-दुनिया से कीर्तन जत्था पहुंचते हैं। वे गुरबानी कीर्तन करते हैं। वे कथा व कीर्तन से संगत को निहाल कर देते हैं। इस दौरान विश्व शांति और भाईचारे के लिए अरदास करती है।

लंगर : पूरे आयोजन के दौरान अटूट लंगर की चलता रहता है। इस रसोई में श्रद्धालु अपनी श्रद्धानुसार अन्न, लकड़ी, घी-तेल, दाल-आटा आदि सामग्री दान देते हैं। लंगर में भोजन बनाने में सहयोग करते हैं। लंगर में स्वयंसेवक लोगों को भोजन परोसते हैं। यह सब सेवाभाव और दान का संदेश देता है।

गतका प्रदर्शन : पंजाब से आए गतका कलाकार हैरतअंगेज प्रदर्शन से लोगों को आर्श्चचकित कर देते हैंं। गतका शब्द के जन्मदाता सिखों के छठे गुरु गुरु हरगोविंद साहिब जी को माना जाता है, जिन्होंने सिखों को युद्ध कलाएं सिखाने के लिए प्रेरित किया। सिखों के 10वें गुरु गुरु गोविंद सिंह ने सिख फौज को तैयार कर गतका को अपने अनुयायियों के लिए अनिवार्य किया और योद्धा बनाया। पर्व के दौरान सिख निहंग गतका और तलवारबाजी के करतब दिखाकर लोगों को अचंभित कर देते हैं।

प्रकाश पर्व क्यों मनाया जाता है?

गुरु नानक जयंती जी का जन्म कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन पाकिस्तान में स्थित श्री ननकाना साहिब में हुआ था। गुरु नानक जयंती की जयंती को गुरु पर्व और प्रकाश पर्व के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस दिन गुरुद्वारों में विशेष शबद कीर्तन और गुरवाणी का पाठ होता है।

प्रकाश पर्व का मतलब क्या होता है?

प्रकाश पर्व का अर्थ बाहरी रोशनी नहीं बल्कि भीतर के अंधेरे को दूर करने का संकल्प है। प्रकाश पर्व के दिन सुबह 4-5 बजे से ही सिख समुदाय के लोग वाहे गुरु, वाहे गुरु जपते हुए सुबह-सुबह प्रभात फेरी निकालते हैं। विशेष अरदास का आयोजन होता है।
