Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Courses

WGU’s Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Certificate adds substantial value to the skill set of emerging marketers or those who have marketing responsibilities, empowering them to perform their roles effectively, pursue career growth opportunities, and contribute positively to marketing management processes of organizations. This certificate also offers a skills-based curriculum aligned with employer demand and provides an opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience with leading industry relevant tools, including HubSpot Marketing Automation Software, Shopify, Canva, Constant Contact, Google Ads, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, and X.

Students have the option to earn the Google Digital Marketing & E-Commerce Professional Certificate as well, but it is not required.

This certificate is a self-directed, competency-based program you can complete on your own schedule. We recommend dedicating 15-20 hours per week to successfully complete the program.

Please note that this program does not require a bachelor’s degree and provides transferable competency units toward a WGU School of Business degree program.

The 4 courses in this program are:

Marketing in the Digital Era

Some historians argue that the concept of marketing dates all the way back to ancient Mesopotamia. And marketing, much like human culture and technology, has evolved in many ways over time. As technology advances at incredible rates in the digital era, so must marketing best practices. In this course, you will explore the core areas of marketing, including branding and products, consumers, communications, and technology. You will study strategic marketing tools used to develop effective strategies for a relevant target market. And you will learn about emerging topics, such as marketing automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven communications. This course will teach you the skills needed to continue evolving as a successful marketing professional in a dynamic marketing environment.

Digital Marketing Science

When you hear the word science, you might first think of natural sciences like biology, chemistry, or physics. But did you know that digital marketing is a science, too? And just like other types of science, it is informed by research, hypotheses, experiments, data, and interpretation. In this course, you will gain foundational knowledge of digital marketing disciplines, including social media marketing, email marketing, content marketing, marketing automation, search engine optimization (SEO), web analytics, and so much more. You will explore how a digital marketing strategy is developed and executed. And you will learn how digital marketing is integrated within an organization's overall strategy.

E-Commerce and Marketing Analytics

Online shopping has evolved from once being a novelty to becoming an everyday event. But how we provide that service should be anything but ordinary. To manage consumer demand and make a profit, e-commerce professionals must keep up with the latest innovations. In this course, you will learn how to reach buyers online and complete sales. You will also learn best practices for evaluating your marketing campaign and website performance. You will develop skills through the practical application of building and optimizing a Shopify website designed to promote and sell products to customers. You will explore the latest technology platforms, with an emphasis on Google applications for hands-on experience. By taking this course, you will have the opportunity to complete the Google Search Ads certification. All this knowledge will enhance your expertise within the marketing profession.

Mastering HubSpot

To be successful, digital marketers must effectively keep track of sales, service, web content, operations, and other business essentials. That can be challenging! HubSpot is a powerful software tool that can assist by providing all-in-one solutions. In this course, you will learn about HubSpot and how to best utilize it. You will explore how this cloud-based platform can sync and connect your consumers, teams, and devices. You will discover the ways HubSpot can improve business functions by tracking potential clients, managing emails and social media posts, hosting web pages, and tracking customer service. Along the way, you will learn how the software analyzes campaign results and user behavior. Think of everything you’ll be able to accomplish!

This course does not offer competency units or credits. However, it will prepare you to take the HubSpot Marketing Software Certification exam. Passing the exam is a requirement of this program.

Note: Content in Digital Marketing Science and E-Commerce and Marketing Analytics aligns with the Online Marketing Certified Associate (OMCA) standard to prepare you for this third-party certification.
