Primary Benefits

  • Add to intellectual capital with up to  14 new presenters per course
  • Add value to your audiences
  • Enhance individual self-esteem
  • Build inter-group communication

Developing dynamic business-meeting presenters is an investment in your organisation’s intellectual capital.

The Business Presentation Skills Courses  provide you with up to 14 professional-level presenters from each course.

Because audiences are expensive to assemble, developing high-quality speakers and presenters is essential. Confident, expertly skilled presenters convert audiences into valuable company assets.

The Value/Cost equations of your existing presenters: Skilled presenters  x  audience size =  Intensified value. Poorly skilled presenters x  audience size =  Intensified loss.

Speak•NZ present their conference workshop, ‘PowerPoint for Professionals’.

Becoming a confidently effective presenter is magic for anyone’s self-esteem. That’s partly why most of our clients offer the course to everyone.

Can you identify your organisation’s presentation-benchmark? Do your average meeting leaders’ presentation skills reach excellent? No? Speak to us about resetting your quality-‘tipping point’.

Interaction, collaboration and trust are at the heart of the course. Clients routinely observe how much they value the lasting professional cross-department relationships this establishes.

Course Format

Why 3 (or 4) half – day workshops, a week apart (8-14 participants.).

Half days are more effective, more efficient instruments than 2 day back-to-back courses for this intense style of learning.  The gap-week between each workshop encourages quality preparation for the formal presentations participants will deliver. They appreciate having that time to reflect and to collaborate with colleagues.

It’s easier for staff to organise 4 disruption-free   hours per week than having to stop work for 2 full days.

The course format is based on cognitive psychology principles, our extensive teaching and speaking experience and collaboration with clients and partners.

Each group works in a fine-tuned coaching environment, alive with authentic experiences and vivid examples . There’s little background academic theory and zero voice or breathing exercises. We don’t submit people to tedious small group role-plays.

John Quinn… such an engaging presenter, had my attention right from the start. I will never use a bullet point again!

Great ideas and help thinking about how I can DISRUPT at my events!

Presentation training is crucial

If you’ve got confidence in yourself, and your communication skills then this will allow you to better communicate with others in public settings and sell your message. Having, or not having, these skills can be the difference between a great presentation and one that bomb’s. But not many are just born ‘great presenters’. It takes knowledge, time and practice to become an exceptional presenter but not to worry, Audience Alive’s presentation skills training helps guide you onto the path of presenter greatness.

Years of experience

Death-by-PowerPoint, Bullet-Points, Reading slides; these are just some of the mistakes today’s presenters make when trying to communicate effectively. We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again. These are boring, sleep-inducing techniques. Instead our presentation course focuses on the new skills, designs and artistry for your presentations and how to effectively use the latest interactive and multimedia technologies to light your presentation on fire! Trust us when we say that interactive presentations with interesting and slick visuals, graphics, videos and audio play like a work of art that captures your audience’s attention and brings the engagement level from 2 to 10 in minutes.

I’ve been on three of AudienceAlive’s workshops on Presentation Skills and each time I come out with a WOW experience. at first, I thought it was just me being an enthusiast for great presentations and using presentation software, but after I got AudienceAlive in to do a custom-course for the team, the vote was unanimous – it was a resounding WOW without exception from everyone in the audience. and just to put this into context – the audience were people who were ‘presenting’ for years. The greatest thing about the workshops that Audience Alive conducts that its contents are upto date, and you know that’s true because you’ve not even heard or seen these functions on PowerPoint yet (or just missed them completely the whole time). Then there’s John himself, who is a wealth of knowledge on the topic and has all the evidence to show that it works and YOU can do it as well – albeit with practice. Finally, the add-on’s – you get a ton of stuff for free, as though the knowledge and skills JQ has passed on wasn’t enough. A highly recommended workshop for anyone who is presenting to an audience. Go to AudienceAlive now, it’s never too late.

Good information, great ideas or the best proposal only gets you half way. To be a successful professional presenter you need to be able to capture your audience and take them on your journey using effective presentations.

Positioning yourself and your ideas in a consistently positive and professional manner enables you to make a professional impression — the first time and every time. Raw information is logical but being logical does not capture anyone’s attention for too long. Persuasive presentations start with raw information, opinions are added, coloured with imagery, and given personality. The more of the mind you tickle, the more retention and motivation you reap.

The PD Training  Presentation Skills  Program will teach you how to prepare quickly, utilise the best method for delivering your message, and maintain audience interest at all times.

In-House Training - We’ll focus on what matters most to you and tailor to your context

Delivery options for in-house training, face-to-face, live online, or hybrid class tailored to your needs.

When you want a tailored learning experience targeting exactly what you want without bringing everyone physically together, the best choice is a Live Online Class run by PDT.

We tailor the content and activities to be specific to your current needs and the needs of the people and run the course in our usual activity-based workshop style training, however, the participants can all be offsite, or some can be in the room with others offsite.

Unless you have a preferred tools we use 'Zoom for Education' that includes enhanced collaboration features such as One-click content sharing, real-time co-annotation (people can work together in activity files), and digital whiteboarding, we also include things like live polls and group chats so you virtually have the same collaborative learning experience of attending a course in a room with other people.

live online & hybrid

We have delivered these 100's (if not 1000's) of times, and get great outcomes. We achieve great outcomes because we keep our learner centric approach - just because it’s delivered through a screen to some or all participants doesn’t mean it needs to be less tailored or less personalised.

You still have an expert trainer who talks to you prior to the session and tailors the delivery to use your terminology, ensure activities are relevant and directly applicable and ensures an engaging learning experience that provide people with skills and techniques they can apply the very next day.

A hybrid class is with some people connecting online, and some people physically together in the same room.

Live Online Participant Feedback:

90% overall trainer rating, 88% delivery was adapted to me personally, 75% i would recommend this course to someone else, face to face options with everyone in the same room.

Some faq's about Advanced Presentation Skills Training .

0.1 what is theatre based learning.

Theatre Based Learning is the technique we use to bring learning to life by using our actors to perform scenarios, based on real case studies.

Theatre Based Learning can be either observational (where learners watch scenes and discuss) OR participative (where we use techniques like real-play and practice, forum where learners interact with the actors and direct them or hot-seating where learners give feedback to individual characters and make suggestions). This course uses our actors to both demonstrate presentation skills and often made mistakes and techniques with the ability for all learners to present and receive feedback

Our training is observational and participative, using teams of actors to bring it to life. We recognise that taking part in role-play is not for everyone, so we offer observational training – this is where two of our acting team demonstrate scenes related to the course and delegates observe and comment on the behaviors. Where a business is more confident working with actors, we take this to the next level with participative training so delegates get to practice their newly learnt skills.

Course subjects

You'll learn how to use specific tools and techniques for presentation creation and delivery, which will enable you to conduct powerful presentations that engage your audience every time.

21 Ways To Improve Your Public Speaking Skills

These are skills and qualities one should possess in order to develop and deliver a clear and understandable oration. Public speaking skill decides how far your thoughts are comprehended to the targeted audience. It is necessary to engage the audience throughout your speaking.

Here are few skills you should possess to be a good public speaker:

Verbal communication.

Your choice of words plays an important role. Avoid difficult words, and use only words that can be understood by the audience instantly.

Voice Control

Know to control your breath while speaking. Place the microphone at a right distance.

Presentations

Not all the public speakers use presentation slides. Slides are catchy, and keep the audience engaged.

Know the audience

Study about your audience before you start. Speak according to the mood of the audience.

Practice in front of a mirror. Practice until you are confident about yourself.

Wear a comfortable dress that does not disturb your attitude. Follow the dress code, if any.

Punctuality

Be present at the venue at least before half an hour. This will keep you calm and composed.

Prepare notes. Jot down important points, and do not forget to take it to the event.

Earmark the notes you carry to the event. This will avoid cluttering of the papers while turning the pages.

You should make the audience feel like you are the leader of the day’s event. This enables them to lend ears to you.

Delivery of Information

This includes your pauses, your stress on a word, and your tone. Be polite.

Humour touch

Try to add few humorous phrases when you speak. This will improve your connectivity with the audience.

Avoid filler words

Do not stammer. Stop, give a pause and continue. Do not use words like “uuh”, “umm”.

Time Management

Prepare your oration according to the time provided to you. Do not exceed the time limit.

Eye contact

Make eye contact with the audience. Do not recite the points looking at the notes you carry.

Interpersonal Relationship

Develop a rapport with your audience to make them feel like you are speaking directly to them.

Proper Gestures

Your gestures and body language has the capability to turn the audience to you. This creates a bond between you and your audience.

Storytelling

You can create a story to convey your ideas to the audience. This will help you grab the attention of the audience.

Interaction

Be interactive with your audience. Ask them general questions, and make them participate in your oration.

Accept Criticisms

Be ready to face any criticisms. You should be able to start off right from where you left after the criticisms and questions from the audience.

Stress Management

The questions, the surroundings, the mood of the audience may be stressful to you. The ability to manage your stress during public speaking is important.

  • Michael Brown

Let's get one thing out of the way. This method has nothing to do with stringing wall-to-wall slides together and using them to prompt you. I'm going to assume that the screen is blank unless your words need specific visual support. In other words: this will be about how to organize your thoughts swiftly for an  effective  presentation.

Here's the essence:

  • Write a purpose statement.
  • Write your key messages as the subheadings (what must be said).
  • List supporting detail under each key message - in order of importance.

Follow me through this simplified, fictional example.

You're an IT Manager. You're about to present to the board, to recommend what your research reveals as the best replacement for the computer hardware and network system.  The existing system is obsolete. It's low spec, it's slow, it can't handle modern demands, particularly security. In one year, outage frequency has doubled, maintence costs have tripled. Your proposed new system would have cutting edge specs, including world standard security. It would be designed and installed by Compak Solutions, which has a reputation for reliability. Although the cost is high - $7 million - it will pay for itself within 3 years. Compak will guarantee maintenance and future-proofing for the next 4 years.

1.  Write a purpose statement (first words after the greeting)

I want to recommend a replacement for our obsolete computer system.

Note that it's not a 'talk-about' title (e.g. 'I want to talk about the computer system'). Instead, it's why you're really there, your real purpose, what you really want to achieve with the audience: make a recommendation.

2.  Write your key messages as the subheadings

What must be said. Here are three likely ones you might choose:

We're at crisis point now  / The new system will fit our needs / It would pay for itself in 3 years

Note how dynamic those subheadings are.  How different from the usual way with neutral subheadings (which, in this example, might have been Background / Proposed system / What's ahead, or the standard What / Why / How structure.

3.  List supporting detail under each - in order of importance

There's a bonus to listing in order of importance. If you turn up with your 30 minute presentation and the chair tells you you've now only got 3 minutes, it's very easy to drop the bottom points in each list. You will still have a dynamic, effective presentation.

Any worries about identifying the key messages? Here's a tip. Imagine that your audience is standing up and about to walk and you have to blurt out what they really must know in a just a few short words. Chances are you'll get your key messages right there.

Have fun. Organise to grab and hold their attention.

Presentation skills

Like public speaking, the prospect of presenting to a group can make people nervous. It can however, like public speaking, help you progress your career and give you a reputation for being a reliable, engaging presenter. Whether you’re in a role that is called on to present often or on an ad hoc basis, it pays to improve and develop your presentation skills so when the time comes, you’re prepared and confident. Here are our top presentation tips.

The purpose of presenting

While the content of presentations will vary depending on your role, industry, level of seniority and the organisational strategies and goals you work to, presentations tend to be delivered with one of these purposes in mind:

Example: A CFO presenting the end of financial year results to the business, or IT announcing an organisation-wide software review.

Example: The Administration team presenting a new project management tool to be adopted by the department, or Marketing presenting the new brand guidelines to the organisation.

Example: A Sales Manager presenting products and services to potential clients, or an Accountant vying to get their new reconciliation process across the line with the executive team.

Example: The CEO presenting a new strategic vision to the organisation with ambitious new financial goals, or an executive presenting a partnership with a not-for-profit.

Improving your presentation skills

Your presentation skills will improve every time you do it, and your confidence will grow too. To fast track your development, employ these presentation tips while you research, prepare, practice and deliver your next presentation.

  • Research It’s an obvious point, but a tremendously important one. Research means knowing the content or information you’re delivering, but also knowing your audience, anticipating their concerns and questions, and understanding the environment or space you’re presenting in. Being able to tailor your presentation to these elements will strengthen it and reduce the presence of unknowns – a common source of presentation nerves.
  • Practice, practice, practice  If you’ve got a presentation coming up, whether it’s to your team, a small selection of executives or the whole organisation, you’ll always feel better if you’re well practised. Ask friends, family or colleagues to listen to your presentation in the days before, inviting their questions and feedback. In the absence of an audience, use a mirror. Focus on delivering your words at a manageable pace, breathing deeply to keep yourself calm and regular eye contact with your audience.
  • Arrive early Get to the location of your presentation before everyone else does, and allow yourself time to set up the equipment you need, read through your notes and take some calming deep breaths. If you’re rushing between meetings and aren’t able to arrive early, take a few quick minutes to relax and set yourself in the moment. Physical and mental readiness are just as important as the content you’ve prepared when it comes to possessing brilliant presentation skills.
  • Watch TED talks There are literally thousands of TED Talks and presentations that have been conducted all around the world at myriad different venues. Review those that are popular, as well as some that are closer to your field of work, or the content you might be presenting. Take note of what is most engaging about the best talks, and include these qualities in your own presentation.
  • Weave in stories Including stories and anecdotes in your presentation will ensure it’s unique, engaging and relevant. Whether you draw on your own experiences, use a colleague’s story or draw on something published and well-known, stories can help personalise the factual content and make it truly memorable. The inclusion of stories and anecdotes is a presentation tip that shouldn’t be overlooked.
  • Don’t leave it to PowerPoint If you're bringing slides, less is more. Keep the graphs and charts simple, using them to summarise points rather than explain them in detail. Pictures can be a powerful way to reinforce your key messages, but make sure they don't distract from your key messages.
  • Be gracious Being brash or arrogant probably won’t gel well with your audience, nor will it help you get your information across. Be polite, considerate and patient with your audience, no matter what their size or seniority, and always thank them for their time and attention at the conclusion of your presentation.

Most employees will be called on to present at some point in their career, whether it’s explaining a report in a weekly team meeting, or proposing a new business model to board members. Use these presentation tips to ensure that you’re confident and ready, and that you use every presentation as an opportunity to enhance your skills.
