তাহলে এসো কথা বলি তার শুরু জীবনের স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের জন্ম ১২ জানুয়ারি ১৮৬৩ সালে মকর সংক্রান্তির দিন হয়েছিল। মকর সংক্রান্তি একটা উৎসব ঐদিন গঙ্গা নদীর কিনারায় প্রচুর লোক পূজা করতে আসত|

স্বামীজীর ঘর থেকে ওই পুজো আরোতি আওয়াজ শোনা যাচ্ছিল, স্বামীজীর মা ভগবান কে খুব মানতো ও পূজা পাঠ করতেন, যাতে তার এক ছেলে হয় এবং সে তার পরিবারের নাম উঁচু করে। একদিন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের মা ভুবনেশ্বরী দেবী স্বপ্নে ভগবান শিবকে দেখলেন তিনি দেখলেন যে ভগবান তাকে বলছে যে সে তার ছেলের রুপে জন্মগ্রহণ করবে, এই কথা শুনে স্বামীজীর মা খুবই খুশি হন ও তার চোখের খুশির জল পরছিল|

এইজন্যই তার ছেলের নাম বীরেশ্বর যা ভগবান শিবের আরেক নাম রাখতে চেয়েছিল কিন্তু তার পরিবার স্বামীজীর নাম নরেন্দ্রনাথ রাখলেন|স্বামীজীকে সবাই ভালোবেসে নরেন বলে ডাকত, কে জানতো বড় হয়ে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ হবে যার সবাই এত সম্মান করবে |

হিন্দু ধর্মের জন্য তার ভালোবাসা ছোটবেলা থেকেই পরিস্কার দেখা যেত|তার জন্ম কলকাতার দত্ত পরিবারে হয়েছিল এবং তাঁর পরিবারের সবাই খুবই বুদ্ধিমান ও লেখাপড়া ছিল| আর প্রায়ই অন্যদের সাহায্য করত যার কারণে স্বামীজীর খুব নাম ছিল সবাই স্বামীজীকে খুব মানতো,

তার পিতা কলকাতার হাইকোর্টের লয়ার ছিলেন|নরেন তার পিতার মতো কম দাদুর মত বেশি ছিল| তার পিতা সব সুখ সুবিধা ভালো লাগতো কিন্তু নরেন সাধুর মত সিম্পল থাকতে পছন্দ করত|

তার জীবনের প্রথম শিক্ষক তার মা ছিলেন তার মা তাকে অ্যালফাবেট আর ইংলিশের ওয়ার্ড শেখাতো, সে তাকে রামায়ণ ও মহাভারতের গল্প শোনাতো, ছোট নরেন কে রামজির গল্প খুব পছন্দ হতো রাম নাম নরেনের হিরোর মত লাগত, সে তার স্ত্রী সীতাকে বাঁচানোর জন্য লড়াই অব্দি করেছিল|

নরেন সব বাচ্চা থেকে আলাদা ছিল মনে হয় তার জন্য তার স্বপ্ন আলাদা আসত| আর নরেন ভাবতো সবাইকেই এইরকমই স্বপ্ন আসে এটা কোন বড় কথা নয়| হঠাৎ একবার তার স্বপ্নের চকচকে বল দেখা গিয়েছিল, যেখান থেকে খুব আলোর রশ্মি বের হচ্ছিল, যার রং বদলাতেই আছে ওই বল ধীরে ধীরে বড় হচ্ছিল এবং এ পয়েন্টে এসে ফেটে গিয়েছিল, সেখান থেকে বেরোনো রশ্মি সাদা রং তার উপরে পড়তে থাকে এবং তাকে পুরোপুরি ঢেকে দেয়|

যখন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ (নরেন্দ্রনাথ) বয়স ৮ বছর তখন সে ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগরের ইনস্টিটিউশনে ভর্তি হন (১৮৭১ – ১৮৭৭) এবং নরেন ছোটবেলা থেকেই পড়াশোনায় খুবই মেধাবী ছিলেন|এরপর নরেন তার পরিবারের সঙ্গে রায়পুর চলে যায় এবং ওখানে বাড়িতেই দুই বছর পড়াশোনা করে|

এরপর রায়পুর থেকে ফিরে আসার পর ১৮৭৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দে মেট্রোপলিটন স্কুল থেকে প্রথম বিভাগে এন্ট্রান্স পাশ করে  নরেন্দ্রনাথ  প্রথমে প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে ভর্তি হন।

এরপর ১৮৮০ তে প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়ার পর কলকাতার সুপ্রতিষ্ঠা কলেজ স্কটিশ চার্চ কলেজ এ ভর্তি হন. এখানে তিনি পাশ্চাত্য যুক্তিবিদ্যা, পাশ্চাত্য দর্শন ও ইউরোপীয় ইতিহাস নিয়ে পড়াশোনা করেন, কলেজ থেকে স্নাতক শেষ করার সময় পর্যন্ত তিনি বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে বিস্তৃত জ্ঞান অর্জন করেছিলেন।

ছোটবেলা থেকেই আলাদা আলাদা ধর্ম যেমন হিন্দু মুসলিম ধনী গরিবের জন্য প্রশ্ন তুলতে থাকতো|একদিন তার পিতার অফিসে টোবাকো পাইপের বক্স দেখতে পায়, এটা তার পিতা ক্লায়েন্টের জন্য ছিল আর আলাদা আলাদা হিন্দু কাস্ট এর বক্স ও মুসলিমের জন্য আলাদা বক্স রাখা ছিল, নরেন প্রত্যেক বক্স থেকে টোবাকো পাইপ বের করে ট্রাই করল, তার পিতা যখন তাকে দেখল তাকে খুব বকলো কিন্তু নরেন বলল আমাকে তো কোনো আলাদা কিছু মনে হলো না|

নরেন কে সব সময় সব কথা জানার ইচ্ছা থাকতো একবার সে তার পিতাজি কে জিজ্ঞাসা করলো আপনি আমার জন্য কি করেছেন ? তার পিতা খুবই বুদ্ধিমান ছিলেন সে তাকে আয়নায় দেখতে বললেন আর বলল নিজেকে এই আয়নাতে দেখে বুঝতে পারবে আমি তোমার জন্য কি করেছি|

নরেন আবার একদিন জিজ্ঞাসা করল পিতাজি কে আমাকে কিরকম ইমেজ বিশ্বের সামনে রাখা উচিত ? তার পিতাজি বললো কখনো কোনো জিনিসকে দেখে সারপ্রাইজ হওনা| এই কারন ছিল সবাই এর সম্মান করা উচিত এবং কাউকে অসম্মান করা উচিত নয়, যখন সন্ন্যাস হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন মানে সাধুর মতো থাকতো তখন যে কোন রাজার মহলে বা কোন গরীবের ঘরে গেলে সে সবসময় একই রকম ব্যবহার করত|

সন্ন্যাস ধর্ম কেন ও কিভাবে নিলেন

নরেন যখন ছোট ছিল তাকে দু রকম স্বপ্ন এসেছিল একজন খুব লেখাপড়া মানুষ যার কাছে প্রচুর অর্থ ও সুন্দর বাড়ি ছিল ও সমাজে তার খুব নাম ছিল আর তার স্ত্রী এবং সুন্দর সুন্দর বাচ্চা ছিল|

দ্বিতীয় যে সন্ন্যাস এক জায়গা থেকে আরেক জায়গায় ঘুরতে থাকতো তাকে সিম্পল জীবন পছন্দ ছিল এইরকম সুখ-সুবিধা তাকে খুশি দিত না, তার তো একটাই ইচ্ছা যে সে ভগবান কে জানবে ওতার আরো কাছে যাবে|ও নরেন জানত এর মধ্যে সে যেকোনো একটা হতে পারে|

নরেন খুব ভেবে দেখল আর তার মনে হল সে এক সন্ন্যাস এর মতন জীবন যাপন করবে| বিশ্বে কি আবিষ্কার হচ্ছে কে কি প্রাপ্ত করছে এতে তার কোন জানার ইচ্ছে ছিল না| তার কাছে তার একটাই লক্ষ্য ছিল সে ভগবান কে দেখবে তাকে উপলব্ধি করবে, ভগবানের সাথে দেখা করলে কেমন লাগবে|

সে চেয়েছিল যে তাকে এমন কেউ মানুষ রাস্তা দেখায় যে নিজে উপলব্ধি করেছে যে নিজে ভগবান কে দেখেছে| সেই খোঁজে সে ব্রাহ্মসমাজ যুক্ত হলেন, এবং হঠাৎ একদিন সে এই গ্রুপের লিডার এর কাছে জিজ্ঞাসা করল স্যার আপনি কি ভগবানকে দেখেছেন ?

তার কথা শুনে দেবেন্দ্রনাথ খুব সারপ্রাইজ হয়েছিল, সে নরেনের মনকে ঘোরানোর জন্য তাকে বলল তুমি সাধুর মতো তোমাকে না খুব ধ্যান করা উচিত| তার কথা শুনে নরেন উদাস হয়ে গিয়েছিল, তার মনে হয়েছিল যে রকম গুরু সে চায় এ ঠিক সেরকম নয়, সে প্রচুর লোককে জিজ্ঞাসা করল অনেক খুঁজলো কিন্তু সে যা চায় তা পাচ্ছে না|তারপর সে একদিন রামকৃষ্ণের সম্পর্কে জানতে পারল

গুরু শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংস

তারপর শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের সম্পর্কে জানলো যার মন এত পরিষ্কার আর যে এত গভীরভাবে ধ্যান করত যে ভগবানকে অনুভব করেছে| নরেন দক্ষিণেশ্বর মন্দিরে শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের সঙ্গে দেখা করেন রামকৃষ্ণ নরেনের সাথে দেখা করে খুবই প্রসন্ন হয়েছিল|

নরেন পুরো মন দিয়ে ভজন গিয়ে শোনাতো আর রামকৃষ্ণ বুঝে যায় নরেন সব বাচ্চা থেকে আলাদা| এই রকম লাগতো নরেনের চোখ সবসময় ধ্যানমগ্ন হয়ে থাকতো, অন্যদের পোশাক বা তাকে কেমন দেখতে তার উপর কোন ধ্যান দিতোনা| শিক্ষক রামকৃষ্ণ খুবই খুশি ছিল যে ফাইনালি সেএমন এক ছাত্র পেয়েছেন যে তার নিজের বিচার তাকে বলতে পারে|

রামকৃষ্ণ কে ছাড়া কোন শিক্ষক কখনো বলেনি যে সত্যিই ঈশ্বরকে দেখেছেন| এবার নরেনের বিশ্বাস হয়ে গিয়েছিল যে সে যাকে খুঁজছেন তাকে পেয়ে গিয়েছিল|

একদিন সে জিজ্ঞাসা করল শিক্ষক আপনি কি ভগবান কে দেখেছেন ? রামকৃষ্ণ বলল হ্যাঁ আমি ভগবান দেখেছি যেভাবে আমি তোমায় দেখতে পারি, সেভাবে আমি ভগবান কে দেখতে পারি, ভগবানকে দেখা যেতে পারে, তার সঙ্গে কথা বলা যেতে পারে|

লোক তার পরিবার টাকা-পয়সার জন্য কাঁদে কিন্তু ভগবানের এক ঝলক দেখার ইচ্ছা কারো মধ্যে নেই কেউ ভগবান কে দেখার জন্য চোখের জল ফেলে না, সত্যিই কেউ ভগবানকে দেখতে চায় সে দেখতে পারি এই কথা শুনে নরেনের মনে খুব শান্তি হলো|এইভাবে কিছুদিন চলতে চলতে রামকৃষ্ণের মৃত্যু হয়ে যায় |

এরপর সব সন্ন্যাস হতাশ হয়ে যায় এখন নরেনের বয়স 23 বছর এবার তার দায়িত্ব ছিল নতুন সন্ন্যাসীদের লক্ষ্য রাখা আর তাদের পড়ানো| নরেন মন দিয়ে সন্ন্যাসীদের পড়ান ও লক্ষ্য রাখেন| এবং ধীরে ধীরে ছাত্ররাও সাধুর মতন জীবন-যাপন করতে শুরু করে|

নরেন সব সময় পুজোপাঠ লেখাপড়া ধ্যান ভজন এইসবের লিপ্ত হয়ে যেতেন| নরেন এইসবে এত মগ্ন হয়ে যেত কখনও কখনও খাওয়া ভুলে যেত এবং সে খুবই সাধারণ খাবার খেতে যেমন শুধু ভাত নুন দিয়ে|

সে বিশ্বাস করত কোন জিনিসের লোভ ভগবানের কাছ থেকে দূরে নিয়ে যায়| তিনি খুব সাধারণ কাপড় পরতো নরেন ছাত্রদের সাথে থাকত ও তাদেরকে জ্ঞান বাড়াতো বিশ্বের আলাদা আলাদা জায়গার বই পড়ে শোনাতো আর বিজ্ঞানী প্রোটো, অ্যারিস্টোটল, বুদ্ধ, সমস্ত মানুষের ব্যাপারে বলতো এবং নরেন কর্মযোগ ভক্তি শেখাতো|

এক সময় নরেনের মনে হল যে তার ভেতরে শক্তি কে সে দেখতে চাই, এবং সে চাইছিল সব সন্ন্যাসি নির্ভরশীল হোক এইজন্যে নরেন ঐ সমস্ত সন্ন্যাসী ছেড়ে বিশ্বভ্রমণে বেরিয়ে পড়ে|

এটা তার সবসময়ের ইচ্ছা ছিল যে সে এক সাধুর মতন জীবন যাপন করবে| আর তার কাছে শুধু একটা লাঠি ও বাটি ছিল|এইভাবে চলতে থাকল এবং এগোতে থাকলো এইভাবে এক নরেন সন্ন্যাসী থেকে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ তৈরি হয়েছিল|

আমেরিকা ভ্রমণ

রাজা রামনাথ স্বামীজীকে আমেরিকার শিকাগোতে যাওয়ার কথা বলল কারণ স্বামীজি যাতে Parliament of religion (ধর্ম সংসদ) এ হিন্দু ধর্মের ব্যাপারে সবাইকে বলতে পারে|এইভাবে স্বামীজি আমেরিকাতে যায়|

আমেরিকাতে স্বামীজীর অরেঞ্জ কাপড় দেখে সবাই অন্যরকম ভাবতো এর আগে এই রকম কাপড় আমেরিকার বাসি কখনো পড়েনি, যখন স্বামীজি রাস্তায় চলত ছোট বাচ্চারা তাকে অনুসরণ করতো.

ধর্ম সংসদ ১৮৯৩ এ খোলা হয়েছিল. ধর্ম সংসদের লক্ষ্য ছিল এটাই west counrty সায়েন্স আর টেকনোলজি তে কত এগিয়ে গিয়েছিল, এইজন্য পার্লামেন্টের রিলিজিয়ান লিডারদের ডাকা হয়| এই ধর্ম সংসদে 7000 এর বেশি লোক জমা হয়েছিল, গোটা বিশ্ব থেকে রিলিজিয়ান লিডার এসেছিল. এবং সমস্ত ধর্মের প্রচার এর জন্য একজন করে লিডার পাঠানো হয়েছিল,

এই ধর্মগুলি ছিলো ইসলাম, বুদ্ধ, ক্রিশ্চান, সিন্ধু, জেন ও হিন্দু প্রত্যেকে লিডারের কে সামনে এসে তাদের বক্তৃতা দিতে হবে|স্বামীজি এইসব দেখে ভয় পেয়ে গিয়েছিলেন এবং স্বামীজি কোন বক্তিতা তৈরি করে আনে নি, স্বামীজি জানত না এটা তার দরকার পড়বে|

স্বামীজি প্রথমবার এত লোকের সামনে বক্তৃতা দিতে যাচ্ছিলেন স্বামীজি ওখানকার পার্লামেন্টের কাজ করার টিমকে রিকুয়েস্ট করল তাকে যেন সবার শেষে ডাকা হয়, এবং শেষে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের বলার সময় আসলো তার প্রথম শব্দ ছিল Brothers and sister of America ( আমেরিকার ভাই ও বোন )

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের এই কথা শুনে পার্লামেন্টে থাকা সমস্ত লোক দাঁড়িয়ে স্বামীজীর জন্য হাত তালি বাজালো, এবং সবাই ভেবেছিল কেউ একজন আলাদা এসেছে সবার মনে হলো একজন পুরো মন থেকে বলছে এবং তার কথাই সত্য আছে স্বামীজি সবাইকে বলতে চাইছে যে একে অপরকে বিশ্বাস করতে ও সম্মান করতে, আমাদেরকে একে অপরকে বোঝার চেষ্টা করতে হবে এবং শান্তির চেষ্টা করতে হবে, কেউ আমাদের থেকে আলাদা তো কি হয়েছে আমাদের সবাইকে সম্মান করতে হবে|

স্বামীজি শুধু নিজের ধর্মের ব্যাপারে বলেনি সমস্ত ধর্মের ব্যাপারে বলেছেন, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের এইসব কথা ও তার জিজ্ঞাসা করার কৌশল তাকে সবার ভিড় থেকে আলাদা করত|

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের মৃত্যু কিভাবে হয়

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের আস্থামা হয়ে গিয়েছিল ডক্টর স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে নর্থ ইন্ডিয়া যেতে বলেছিল কারণ সেখানকার আবহাওয়া ভালো ছিল, এবং নর্থ ইন্ডিয়ান লোকেরা স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের সাথে দেখা করতে চাইছিলেন অনেকদিন ধরে, তাই স্বামীজি রাজি হয়ে যান এবং নর্থ ইন্ডিয়া চলে যায়| তারপর ধীরে ধীরে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের শরীর দুর্বল হতে থাকে কিন্তু চিন্তাশক্তি খুবই পরিষ্কার ছিল|

যদি কোন সন্ন্যাসী স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে আরাম করতে বলতো স্বামীজি সেটা মানতো না| স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ বুঝতে পেরে গিয়েছিলেন যে সে আর ৪০ বছর বয়স অবধি বাজবেনা স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের বয়স তখন ৩৯ বছর পাঁচ মাস হয়ে গিয়েছিল| স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ হিসাব করলে তার মৃত্যু কখন হবে, এবং স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের সব থেকে সিনিয়ার সন্ন্যাসীকে বলে দিয়েছিলেন যে তার অন্তিম সংস্কার কোথায় কারতে চায়|

শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যা সাতটায় বেল বাজলো পুজোর সময় হয়ে গিয়েছিল স্বামীজি তাঁর নিজের কক্ষে পুজো আর ধ্যান করতে চলে গিয়েছিলেন, সে তার সেবক কে বলল সে একঘণ্টা তার কক্ষে থাকবে কেউ যেন তাকে বিরক্ত না করে. তারপর স্বামীজি তাঁর সেবক কে সাহায্যের জন্য ডাকলো কক্ষের সমস্ত দরজা জানালা খুলতে বলল যাতে তাজা হাওয়া আছে স্বামীজি বিছানায় শুয়ে পড়লেন তার সেবক ভাবলেন স্বামীজি ঘুমিয়ে গিয়েছে,

স্বামীজি সেইরকমই শুয়ে আছে স্বামীজি চেহারায় খুব শান্তি ছিল, স্বামীজীর লম্বা নিশ্বাস নিচ্ছিল এবং তার হাত-পা কাঁপতে থাকে ও চোখ মুখ দিয়ে রক্ত বের হতে লাগলো. এই ঘটনা রাত নটায় হয়েছিল, তারপরের দিন সমস্ত সন্ন্যাসী স্বামীজীর শরীরকে সেই বেলুড়মঠে নিয়ে গিয়েছিল যেখানে স্বামীজি বলেছিল, হাওড়ার বেলুড়মঠ এর সমস্ত সন্ন্যাসীরা মিলি স্বামীজীর চিতায় আগুন দিল.

ছোটবেলায় স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ (নরেন) শিবের খুবই ভক্ত ছিলেন, তাই তিনি প্রায়ই শিবের পূজা ও ধ্যান করতেন, হঠাৎ একদিন নরেন এক বটগাছের তলায় বন্ধুদের সাথে ধ্যান ধ্যান খেলছিলেন হঠাৎ ‌খেলতে খেলতে একটি সাব এসে পড়ে।

সাপের ফোঁস শুনে তার বন্ধুরা চোখ খোলে দেখে এবং প্রকাশ্য সাপ দেখে বন্ধুরা ভয়ে চিৎকার করে ছুটে পালিয়ে যায়, বন্ধুদের এই চিৎকারেও নরেনের ধ্যান ভাঙ্গে নি এবং নরেনের বন্ধুরা কিছুটা দূর থেকে নরেন কে ডাকাডাকি করতে লাগলো এতেও নরেনের ধ্যান ভাঙলো না, কিন্তু ধ্যানমগ্ন নরেনের মধ্যে উঠে আসার কোনোও প্রবণতা না দেখতে পেয়ে তারা সেখান থেকে চলে যায়।

কিছুক্ষন পর সাপটি‌ও নরেনকে কিছু না করে তার পাশ কাটিয়ে অদৃশ্য হয়ে যায়। পরে নরেন ধ্যানভঙ্গ হলে তার বন্ধুরা জিজ্ঞাসা করে আর নরিন বলে আমিতো তোদের ডাক শুনতে পাইনি|ধ্যানমগ্ন অবস্থায় তার মনে হচ্ছিল যে সে যেন এক অন্য জগতের বাসিন্দা হয়ে গিয়েছে.

স্বামীজী এবং চম্পক গাছ

ছোটোবেলায় নরেন তার এক বন্ধুর বাড়ির পাশে চম্পক বন্ধুদের নিয়ে খেলতো। চম্পক ফুলগুলি শিবের পছন্দ বলে বলা হয় এবং ঘটনাক্রমে স্বামীজিরও প্রিয় ছিল। এটি ছিল স্বামীজির প্রিয় গাছ এই গাছ নরেন মাথা নিচু করে দুলতো প্রায়,একদিন যখন সে গাছ থেকে দোল খাচ্ছিল, তখন বাড়ির বৃদ্ধ এবং প্রায় অন্ধ দাদা তার কণ্ঠস্বর চিনতে পেরে তার কাছে এলেন।

বৃদ্ধ ভয় পেয়েছিলেন যে ছেলেটি পড়ে গিয়ে নিজের ক্ষতি করতে পারে বা আরও খারাপ যে সে তার মূল্যবান কিছু চম্পাকা ফুল হারাবে! নরেন কে গাছ থেকে নামিয়ে বলল তুমি এই গাছে উঠ না, নরেন জিজ্ঞাসা করল কেন? বৃদ্ধ মানুষটি বলল এই গাছে ব্রহ্মদত্ত বাস করে এবং রাতে সে সাদা পোশাক পরে ঘুরে বেড়ায়,

এটা নরেনের কাছে খবর ছিল, নরেন জানতে চেয়েছিলেন এই ভূত ঘুরে বেড়ানো ছাড়া আর কী করতে পারে। বৃদ্ধ উত্তর দিলেন আর যারা গাছে উঠে তাদের ঘাড় ভেঙ্গে দেয়! নরেন কেবল মাথা নাড়িয়া কিছু বলিল না এবং বৃদ্ধ লোকটি ভয়ঙ্কর হাসি হাসিয়া চলে গেল।

নরেনের মনে কৌতুহল জাগতে লাগলো, এবং নরেন বাড়ি গিয়ে ভাবল সে আজ রাতে ওই চম্পক গাছে থাকবে সে দেখতে চাই ব্রহ্মদত্ত দেখতে কেমন আর সে কি করে| ব্রহ্মদত্ত কে দেখার জন্য রাত্রিবেলায় চুপ চাপ করে সেই গাছে গিয়ে উঠে বসে থাকে। কিন্তু ভোর হলে গেলে কোনো ব্রম্ভদত্তের দেখা পেল না|

অন্যদিক সকাল হতেই নরেনের বাড়িতে হইচই শুরু হয়ে যায়। বাড়ির লোকও পাড়ার লোক মিলে সবাই নরেন কে খুঁজতে শুরু করে, খুঁজিতে খুঁজিতে সেই গাছের কাছে পৌঁছায় সবাই এবং সেই বৃদ্ধ লোকটি ও আসে, এবং সকলে মিলে নরেন কে জিজ্ঞাসা করল যে রাতে কেন সে এসেছিল এই গাছে ?

তখন নরেন বলেন যে ব্রহ্মদত্ত দেখার জন্য সে এই গাছে অপেক্ষা করছিল, অথচ কাউকেই সে দেখতে পায়নি। ফলতঃ খেলার আর বাঁধা র‌ইল না। তার কথা শুনে বিস্ময়ে হতবুদ্ধ হয়ে যান সকলে।

নরেন্দ্রনাথ খুব সুন্দর গল্প করতে পারতেন । তার কথা এবং ব্যক্তিত্বের এমন আকর্ষণ ছিল যে, তিনি গল্প আরম্ভ করলে সবাই সব কাজ ভুলে তার কথাই শুনতেন। স্কুলের ক্লাসের শিক্ষক আস্তে দেরী হচ্ছে দেখে নরেন্ তার বন্ধুদের নিয়ে গল্প করছিল, গল্প এতো জমে যায় যে কিছুক্ষণ পরে ক্লাসে শিক্ষক এসে পড়ানো শুরু করে দেয়, কিন্তু গল্পে এত মগ্ন যে কেউ বুঝতে পারেনি, সবাই মন দিয়ে ধরনের কথা শুনছিল|কিছুক্ষণ পরে ফিসফিস শব্দ শুনে শিক্ষক ব্যাপারটা বুঝতে পারলেন।

এই ঘটনা দেখে শিক্ষক বিরক্ত হয়ে তিনি এক এক করে সবাইকে পরীক্ষা করলেন যে, তিনি যা কিছু পড়াচ্ছিলেন ছাত্ররা তা শুনেছে কিনা? কেউ শিক্ষকের প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে পারল না। এরপর নরেন কে জিজ্ঞাসা করলে নরেন সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর সঠিক দিয়ে দেয়|

কারণ নরেনের মন ছিল দু-মুখো ছিল যখন শিক্ষক পড়াচ্ছিলেন তখন শুনছিলেন এবং বন্ধুদের গল্প শোনার ছিলেন| তাই শিক্ষক বাকিদের ক্লাসে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতে বলল| সকলের সঙ্গে নরেন্ ও উঠে দাঁড়ালেন, তখন শিক্ষক বললেন তোমাকে দাঁড়াতে হবে না। নরেন্দ্র বললেন না আমাকেও দাঁড়াতে হবে, কারণ আমিই তো কথা বলছিলাম।সকলের সাথে তিনিও দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন।এ ই দেখে শিক্ষক অবাক হয়ে গেলেন নরেনের সততা ও বুদ্ধি দেখে|

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ পড়াশোনায় খুবই ভাল ছিলেন। স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের নতুন নতুন বই পড়ার খুব শখ ছিল| শিকাগোতে থাকাকালীন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ সেখানকার এক লাইব্রেরীতে যেতেন ও প্রতিদিন একটি করে নতুন বই নিয়ে আসতেন ও তারপরের দিন ফিরিয়ে দিতেন|

এই দেখে লাইবেরিয়ার একটু সংকোচ বোধ করলেন, এবং লাইবেরিয়ার একদিন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন আপনি যখন বইগুলো পড়তে চান না তাহলে কেন নিয়ে যান? তখন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ বললেন আমার এই বইগুলো পড়া হয়ে গিয়েছে, তখন লাইব্রেরিয়ান আরো বিরক্তি হলেন এবং বললেন এটা সম্ভব নয়|

তখন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ বললেন আপনি এই বইগুলোর মধ্যে যেকোন প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞাসা করতে পারেন আমাকে, এবং লাইব্রেরিয়ান বিরক্ত হয়ে তাকে কিছু প্রশ্ন করল এবং স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ সব প্রশ্নের সঠিক উত্তর দিল. এই দেখে লাইব্রেরিয়ান অবাক হয়ে গেলেন এইরকম মানুষ এর আগে কখনো দেখেনি সে.

আজকে আমরা জ্ঞানী পুরুষ স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের জীবনী ও বাণী সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করব, যার কথা আমরা শৈশব থেকে বইয়ের পাতায় পড়ে এসেছি। বাঙালির কাছে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ একজন উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র। এই মহান জ্ঞানী মানুষের জন্য সমগ্র বিশ্ব গর্বিত।

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন ১৮৬৩ সালে ১২ ই জানুয়ারি। তার আসল নাম ছিল নরেন্দ্র নাথ দত্ত। ছোটবেলায় সবাই তাকে বিলে বলে জানতো। শৈশব থেকে তিনি খুব চঞ্চল এবং মেধাবী প্রকৃতির বালক ছিলেন। উত্তর কলকাতায় একটি কায়স্থ পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন তিনি। তাঁর পিতার নাম ছিল বিশ্বনাথ দত্ত এবং   মা ছিলেন ভুবনেশ্বরী দেবী।

কলকাতার মেট্রোপলিটান ইনস্টিটিউশনে তার স্কুল জীবনের শিক্ষা সম্পূর্ণ হয়। পড়াশুনোর প্রতি তার চিরকাল গভীর আগ্রহ ছিল এবং বলাই বাহুল্য তিনি একজন অত্যন্ত মেধাবী ছাত্র ছিলেন। ১৮৭৯ সালে ম্যাট্রিক পাস করেছিলেন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ। ম্যাট্রিক পাশ করে তিনি প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে এবং তার পর স্কটিশ চার্চ কলেজে ভর্তি হন দর্শন নিয়ে পড়াশুনো করার জন্য। প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে পড়ার সময় তিনি প্রবেশিকা পরীক্ষায় প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হয়। গীতা, বেদ, উপনিষদ ইত্যাদি বিষয়ে তার প্রচুর আগ্রহ ছিল। ধ্যান ধারণায় আগ্রহী ছিলেন এবং কেশব চন্দ্র সেনের নেতৃত্বে তিনি ব্রাহ্মসমাজ আন্দোলনে যোগদান করেন।

ভারতের বিভিন্ন জাতি, বিভিন্ন ধর্ম, বিভিন্ন ভাষা এবং বিভিন্ন মানুষের সঙ্গে মিশে তিনি নিজের এক নতুন রূপ গঠন করেন এবং নিজেকে তৈরি করেন মানুষের সেবার উদ্দেশ্যে। শহর শহর ঘুরে ঘুরে মানুষকে তিনি দেশের প্রেম, সংস্কৃতি এবং ধর্ম ইত্যাদি নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে থাকেন।

১৮৯৭ সালে ১ লা মে কলকাতায় প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ। তাঁর মূল আদর্শই ছিল সাধারন মানুষের সেবা করাই। তারপর স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ বেলুড়ে তৈরি করেন বেলুড় মঠ। যা আজও বিখ্যাত।

• স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ জীবনী

দেশবাসী যখন দারিদ্র্যপীড়িত, পরাধীনতার অন্ধকারে দিশাহারা ,শিক্ষিত শ্রেণী পরানুকরণে মত্ত, ব্যক্তিত্ব দাসসুলভ দুর্বলতায় অপসৃত, ধর্ম কুসংস্কার ও অস্পৃশ্যতার রাহুগ্রাসে নিষ্পিষ্ট ঠিক সেই সময় মহান পুরুষ স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ভারতবর্ষকে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করতে চেয়েছিলেন মানবধর্মের বাণী দিয়ে। মূর্খ, দরিদ্র, অজ্ঞ, মুচি, মেথর ইত্যাদি সকল ধর্মবর্ণের মানুষকে তিনি একই রক্তের বন্ধনে বাঁধতে চেয়েছিলেন। তাঁর আদর্শ ও অমৃত স্বরূপ বাণী,জাতির নিস্তরঙ্গ জীবনে এনেছিল দুর্বার যৌবন -তরঙ্গ যা জাতিকে উজ্জীবিত করেছিল নবজীবনের অগ্নিমন্ত্রে। আজ আমরা এই মহান আত্মার জীবনী সম্পর্কে জানবো। তার আগে একনজরে দেখে নেওয়া যাক তাঁর সম্পর্কে জরুরি তথ্যগুলি!

বিবেকানন্দের ছেলেবেলা:

১৮৬৩ সালের ১২ জানুয়ারি উত্তর কলকাতায় স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতার নাম ছিল বিশ্বনাথ দত্ত ও মাতা ভুবনেশ্বরী দেবী। স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের ঠাকুরদার নাম হল দূরপ্রসাদ দত্ত ও তিনি একজন সন্ন্যাসী ছিলেন যে কারণে তিনি বেশিরভাগ সময় ভারতের বিভিন্ন তীর্থস্থান ভ্রমণে বেরিয়ে পড়তেন।

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের পিতা শ্রী বিশ্বনাথ দত্ত কলকাতা উচ্চ আদালতের একজন বিশিষ্ট আইনজীবী ছিলেন তাঁর মাতা সংসারের সমস্ত কাজকর্ম সামলাতেন ও নিয়মিত পূজা পাঠ করার সাথে সাথে রামায়ণ, মহাভারত শাস্ত্রপাঠ করতেন। স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ছোট বেলা থেকে তাঁর নয় জন ভাই বোনের সাথে বেড়ে উঠে। তাদের মধ্যে এক ভাই পরবর্তীকালে স্বামীজীর সাথে সন্ন্যাস জীবনে সঙ্গী হন।স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের পিতৃপ্রদত্ত নাম ছিল নরেন্দ্রনাথ কিন্তু তাঁকে ছোটবেলায় নরেন বা বিলে নামে বেশি ডাক হতো।ছোটবেলায় নরেন ছিল খুব জেদি ও দুরন্ত মনের বালক ছিল তিনি যা মনে করতেন তাই করতেন।

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের শিক্ষাবস্থা:

নরেনের প্রথম শিক্ষা তাঁর মা এর কাছে থেকে শুরু হই। তার মা তাকে সর্বপ্রথম বাংলা এবং ইংরেজি ভাষার বর্ণমালা গুলির শিক্ষা দিয়েছেন। এছাড়া তাঁর মা তাকে রমায়ান এবং মহাভারতের বিভিন্ন গল্প শুনতেন যা নরেন খুবই মনোযোগ সহকারে শুনতেন! এরপর নরেন যখন আট বছর বয়সের হয় তখন তাঁর মাতাপিতা তাকে লেখাপড়া করিয়ে একজন বড় মানুষ করতে চেয়েছিলেন যা স্বাভাবিক সেই কারণে ১৮৭৭ সালের নরেনকে প্রাথমিক শিক্ষার জন্য বিদ্যাসাগরের মেট্রোপলিটন ইনস্টিটিউশনে ভর্তি করা হয়। সেখানে তিনি তাঁর প্রাথমিক পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যেতে থাকেন। কিন্তু ১৮৭৭ সালে তাঁর পিতার চাকরির কারণে নরেনসহ পুরো পরিবার ছত্তিসগড় রাজ্যের রায়পুর শহরে সাময়িককালের জন্য চলে যান।১৮৭৯ সালে নরেনের পরিবারে আবার কলকাতায় ফিরে আসে, তখন নরেনের বয়স হয়েছিল ১৬ বছর, কলকাতায় এসে নরেন আবার তার পড়াশোনা শুরু করার জন্য সেই সময়ে কলকাতার সবথেকে বিখ্যাত কলেজ প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজ প্রবেশিকা পরীক্ষা দেন এবং তিনি সেই পরীক্ষায় প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হয় এমনকি তিনি সেই বছর প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়া একমাত্র ছাত্র ছিলেন! তাঁর পড়াশোনার প্রতি ভালোবাসা ও মেধার নিদর্শন ভালোমত পাওয়া যায় এই ঘটনাতে। তাঁর এই ভালোবাসা তাঁকে দর্শন, ধর্ম, ইতিহাস, সামাজিক বিজ্ঞান, সাহিত্য, বেদ, উপনিষদ, ভাগবত গীতা, রামায়ণ, মহাভারত, পুরাণ এবং অন্যান্য বিষয়গুলিরও এক মহান জ্ঞানী করে তুলেছিল। শুধু পড়াশোনাই নয়, অন্যান্য বিষয়েও তাঁর জুড়ি মেলা ভার। নরেন্দ্রনাথ আমাদের ভারতীয় সংস্কৃতির সংগীতের ক্ষেত্রে শাস্ত্রীয় সংগীতের গভীর প্রশিক্ষণও পেয়েছিলেন। তিনি কেবল শিক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে আগ্রহী নন, তিনি নিয়মিত শারীরিক অনুশীলন ও খেলাধুলায়ও অংশ নিতেন।

শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেবের সঙ্গে নরেনের সাক্ষাৎ:

ছাত্রাবস্থায় নরেন্দ্রনাথ দর্শনশাস্ত্রে প্রগাঢ় পাণ্ডিত্য অর্জন করেন যার ফলে তিনি প্রথমে সংশয়বাদী হয়েছে উঠেছিলেন। ঈশ্বর জ্ঞানের জন্য তিনি ব্রাহ্মসমাজে যাতায়াত শুরু করেছিলেন কিন্তু তাঁর ঈশ্বর জিজ্ঞাসার কোনো সদুত্তর তিনি তখনও পর্যন্ত পাননি। এ রকম মানসিক অবস্থায় তিনি লাভ করলেন “যত মত তত পথে” এর প্রবক্তা শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেবের সান্নিধ্য লাভ। প্রতিবেশী সুরেন্দ্রনাথ মিত্রের বাড়ি ধর্মমূলক গান গাইবার জন্য ডাক পড়েছিল নরেন্দ্রনাথের আর সেখানেই হয়েছিল তাঁর রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের সাথে প্রথম সাক্ষাৎ। প্রথম দর্শনেই অভিভূত হয়ে পড়েছিলেন নরেন্দ্রনাথ। ঠাকুরের কাছ থেকে দক্ষিণেশ্বরে আসার আমন্ত্রণ পেলেন নরেন্দ্রনাথ এবং সেই আকর্ষণ ক্রমশ তীব্র থেকে তীব্রতর হয়ে উঠল । সেই সময় পিতার আকস্মিক মৃত্যু ও চরম অর্থসংকট নরেন্দ্রনাথের পরিবারে চরম বিপর্যয় হেনেছিল। রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের সান্নিধ্যে এসে তাঁর সমস্ত সংশয় দূরীভূত হয়েছিল। এক দিন শুভ লগ্নে তিনি শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের কাছ থেকে সন্ন্যাস ব্রতের দীক্ষা নিলেন। নরেন্দ্রনাথের সন্ন্যাসজীবনের নাম হল ‘স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ’। শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের মহাপ্রয়াণের পর স্বামীজি পরিব্রাজক হয়ে সমগ্র ভারতে ঘুরতে লাগলেন। জাতি -ধর্ম -নির্বিশেষে সকলের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে মিশে তিনি ভারতের প্রকৃত রূপের সন্ধান পেলেন। ভারতের অগণিত মানুষের সীমাহীন দারিদ্র্য তাঁর মনকে ব্যথিত করল। ধীরে ধীরে স্বামীজি ও রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের মধ্যে পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক আরো গাঢ় হতে থাকে।

রামকৃষ্ণ পমমহংসদেবের মৃত্যু ও স্বামীজির সঙ্গে তাঁর বিচ্ছেদ:

স্বামীজি তাঁর গুরুর একদম শেষ দিন পর্যন্ত সেবা করেছিলেন। ১৮৮৫ সালে যখন রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেব ক্যান্সার রোগে আক্রান্ত হন, সে সময় স্বামী যে তাঁর গুরুর সেবায় দিনরাত অতিবাহিত করেছিলেন। অবশেষে ১৮৮৬ সালের ১৬ই আগস্ট রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেবের মৃত্যু ঘটে এবং স্বামীজি সহ তাঁর আরো ১২ জন শিষ্য মিলে কলকাতার বরাহনগরে রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ স্থাপন করে তাঁরই স্মরণে এবং সেই মঠে গুরুর কাছ থেকে শেখা সমস্ত আধ্যাত্মিক সাধনাগুলির অনুশীলন করতে থাকেন। তখন থেকে নরেনের নাম হল ‘বিবেকানন্দ’। তিনি ভারত ভ্রমণে বের হলেন। পরিক্রমা করলেন হিমালয় হতে কন্যাকুমারিকা। সুপ্ত ভারত উঠলো জেগে। নবজীবনের জাগরণ মন্ত্রের প্রভাবে নবজাগরণের সৃষ্টি হল। শুধু ভারতই নয়, বরং বিদেশযাত্রাও করেন ‘বিবেকানন্দ’!

i) ভারতভ্রমণে বিবেকানন্দ:

ভারত পথিক বিবেকানন্দ ভারত পর্যটনে বেরিয়ে পরিক্রমা করলেন হিমালয় থেকে কন্যাকুমারিকা। মিশলেন হিন্দু, মুসলমান, চন্ডাল, দরিদ্র, অজ্ঞ, সাধারণ মানুষের সঙ্গে।অনুভব করলেন নির্যাতিত মানুষের হৃদয়ের যন্ত্রণা ব্যথিত হলেন শত শত যুগের সামাজিক ও ধর্মীয় অত্যাচারে বিনষ্ট-মনুষ্যত্ব ভারতীয়দের জন্য। তাঁর অগ্নিগর্ভ বাণীতে স্পন্দিত হলো আ -কুমারিকা হিমাচল। জেগে উঠল শক্তি মগ্ন ভারত। ভবিষ্যৎ ভারতের স্বপ্নদ্রষ্টা ,অনাগত দিনের পথপ্রদর্শক, ভারত পথিক বিবেকানন্দ শোনালেন নবজীবনের জাগরণ মন্ত্র।

ii) আমেরিকা সফরে বিবেকানন্দ:

১৮৯৩ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ ছিল ইতিহাসের এক স্মরণীয় দিন। আমেরিকার শিকাগো শহরে বিশ্ব মহাধর্ম সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হবার সংবাদ পেলেন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ। কিন্তু সেখানে তিনি ছিলেন অনাহূত; তা সত্ত্বেও কিছু ভক্তের অনুরোধে তিনি আমেরিকার পথে পাড়ি দিলেন বেদান্ত ধর্মপ্রচারের মহৎ উদ্দেশ্য কে সঙ্গে নিয়ে। গৈরিক শিরভূষণ, গৈরিক পরিধান ও সন্ন্যাসীর বেশে বিবেকানন্দ এসে পৌঁছালেন শিকাগো শহরে। কিন্তু প্রবেশের ছাড়পত্র তাঁর ছিল না কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত মহৎ হৃদয় আমেরিকাবাসীর সহায়তায় তিনি কিছু সময়ের জন্য বক্তৃতা দেওয়ার অনুমতি নিয়ে ধর্মসভায় প্রবেশ করলেন।মঞ্চে উঠে শ্রোতাবর্গকে আত্মীয়তার উষ্ণ আবেগে সম্বোধন করলেন,”আমেরিকাবাসী ভাই ও বোনেরা”। মুহূর্তে উচ্ছ্বসিত করতালির ধ্বনিতে অভিনন্দিত হলেন প্রাচ্যের এই বীর সন্ন্যাসী। তিনি উদাত্ত কণ্ঠে শোনালেন, কোনো মানুষেরই ধর্ম পরিবর্তন করার প্রয়োজন নেই। আধ্যাত্মিকতা, পবিত্রতা -কোনো ধর্মসম্প্রদায়ের একচেটিয়া নয়। তিনি বললেন সামঞ্জস্য ও শান্তির কথা, প্রশংসা- মুখর শ্রোতামণ্ডলীরা হলেন অভিভূত। এরপর স্বামীজি আমেরিকা ও ইংল্যান্ডের নানা স্থানে বেদান্ত দর্শন ব্যাখ্যা করে বেড়াতে লাগলেন। অনেকেই তাঁর শিষ্যত্ব গ্রহণ করলেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে অন্যতম ছিলেন মার্গারেট নোবেল; ভারতের মাটিতে এসে যিনি হয়েছিলেন,’ভগিনী নিবেদিতা’! ১৮৯৬ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ স্বদেশে প্রত্যাবর্তন করেছিলেন।

স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের যুবসমাজ রচনা:

স্বদেশে ফিরেও বিবেকানন্দ ক্লান্তিহীন কর্মী। বিবিধ সাংগঠনিক কাজে তিনি ডুবে গেলেন। পরমুখাপেক্ষী, পরাণুকরণ-প্রিয় ভীরু ভারতবাসীকে নবজীবনের আদর্শে অনুপ্রাণিত ও আত্মশক্তিতে বলীয়ান করার ব্রত নিয়ে গড়ে তুললেন এক দল আদর্শ সন্ন্যাসী। তাঁরা স্বামীজির বাণী বিগ্রহ হয়ে ছড়িয়ে পড়লেন দিকে দিকে। ১৮৯৭ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে বিবেকানন্দ প্রতিষ্ঠা করলেন মানবসেবার অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠান,’রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন’। ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে গড়ে উঠল তাঁর পরিকল্পিত ব্রহ্মচর্যাশ্রম। ১৮৯৯ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে বিবেকানন্দ তাঁর নিরলস পরিশ্রমে গঙ্গার পশ্চিম তীরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করলেন নবযুগের অন্যতম পুণ্য পীঠস্থান ‘বেলুড় মঠ’। ১৯০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে প্যারিসে বিশ্বেধর্ম সম্মেলনে যোগদান করার জন্য তাঁর কাছে আমন্ত্রণ আসায় তিনি পাড়ি দিলেন ইউরোপের পথে।বিশ্ববাসীকে মুগ্ধ করলেন তাঁর বৈপ্লবিক চিন্তা ভাবনায়।হিন্দুধর্মের অন্তর্নিহিত সত্য বাণী প্রচারের কাজে তিনি নিজেকে উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন। পরবর্তীকালে তিনি স্বদেশে ফিরলেন তবে অত্যধিক পরিশ্রমের ফলে তাঁর স্বাস্থ্য ভঙ্গুর হয়ে উঠেছিল।

বিবেকানন্দের সাহিত্যে অবদান:

শুধু কর্মের জগতেই নয় সাহিত্য সাধনার পুষ্টিবিধানের ক্ষেত্রেও তিনি ছিলেন নতুন যুগের বাণীবাহক। তাঁর, ‘পরিব্রাজক’, ‘ভাববার কথা’, ‘প্রাচ্য ও পাশ্চাত্য’ , ‘বর্তমান ভারত’ এর মতো বিভিন্ন প্রবন্ধ আর অজস্র চিঠিপত্রে তাঁর সেই অমোঘ বাণী মুদ্রিত হয়ে আছে। তিনি অনায়াস স্বাচ্ছন্দে বেশির ভাগই চলিত বাংলা গদ্য লিখতেন। তাঁর গদ্য ভাষা থেকে যেন আগুনের স্ফুলিঙ্গের বিচ্ছুরণ হতো। প্রকাশভঙ্গী ,সাবলীলতা ও বক্তব্যের বলিষ্ঠতায় তাঁর প্রতিটি গদ্য রচনা স্বাতন্ত্র্যে চিহ্নিত ।তাঁর বহু রচনা ইংরেজি ভাষায় রচিত ।

মহাপ্রয়াণ:

১৯০২ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৪ঠা জুলাই এই মহানতপস্বী হলেন সমাধিমগ্ন। সমস্ত শিষ্যদের বলেছিলেন তাঁকে বিরক্ত না করতে! সেই সমাধি আর ভাঙল না। মাত্র ঊনচল্লিশ বছর বয়সেই এই মহাজীবনের ঘটল মহাপ্রয়াণ।

• শৈশব ও শিক্ষাজীবন

শৈশবে বীরেশ্বর ছিলেন দুরন্ত এবং সাহসী। সব বিষয়েই ছিল তাঁর জানার অদম্য কৌতূহল এবং একাগ্রতা।তাছাড়া তাঁর সবকিছুই যাচাই করে নেওয়ার এক আশ্চর্য মানসিকতা ছিল । তিনি ছিলেন অত্যন্ত মেধাবী এবং প্রখর বুদ্ধির অধিকারী । ছোটবেলা থেকেই মাঝে মাঝে ধ্যানস্থ হয়ে পড়তেন তিনি। ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগর প্রতিষ্ঠিত  উত্তর কলকাতার মেট্রোপলিটন স্কুলে তিনি ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন যেখানে তিনি নরেন্দ্রনাথ নামেই পরিচিতি লাভ করেছিলেন।  

১৮৭৭ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে তাঁর  পরিবার কিছুদিনের জন্য রায়পুরে চলে আসেন। তার আগে অবধি  তিনি এই বিদ্যালয়ে পড়াশোনা করেছিলেন। ১৮৭৯ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে দত্ত পরিবার আবার কলকাতায় ফিরে আসেন। নরেন্দ্রনাথ প্রেসিডেন্সি কলেজে ভর্তি হন এবং প্রবেশিকা পরীক্ষায় প্রথম বিভাগে উত্তীর্ণ হন।  এরপর জেনারেল অ্যাসেম্বলি কলেজ বর্তমানে  যা স্কটিশচার্চ কলেজ হিসেবে খ্যাত  , সেখানে দর্শনশাস্ত্র নিয়ে পড়ার সময় তিনি পাশ্চাত্য দর্শন ও যুক্তিবিদ্যা এবং ইউরোপীয় ইতিহাস নিয়ে ও অধ্যয়ন করেছিলেন।

১৮৮১ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে চারুকলা পরীক্ষায় নরেন্দ্রনাথ সফলভাবে  উত্তীর্ণ হন। ১৮৮৪ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে স্নাতক ডিগ্রি প্রাপ্ত করেছিলেন। ছোটবেলা থেকেই তাঁর বই পড়ার এক অদম্য নেশা ছিল ;  দর্শন, ধর্ম, ইতিহাস, সমাজবিজ্ঞান, শিল্পকলা ও সাহিত্য বিষয়ে বই পড়তে তাঁর খুব ভালো লাগত।এ ছাড়াও তিনি বেদ, উপনিষদ্‌, ভগবদগীতা, রামায়ণ, মহাভারত, পুরাণ প্রভৃতি হিন্দুধর্ম সম্বন্ধীয় রচনা পঠন পাঠনে তাঁর আগ্রহ বিশেষভাবে লক্ষণীয় ছিল। মধুর কণ্ঠের অধিকারী নরেন্দ্রনাথের সঙ্গীত, খেলাধুলো ,বক্তৃতায়  ছিল  সুগভীর আগ্রহ। শরীরচর্চার প্রতিও তাঁর অনুশীলন নিষ্ঠা শিক্ষণীয় । তিনি হিন্দুস্তানী শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতে তালিম  ও নিয়েছিলেন কিছুদিন।

• ঈশ্বর জিজ্ঞাসা ও শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের সান্নিধ্য লাভ

ছাত্রাবস্থায় নরেন্দ্রনাথ দর্শনশাস্ত্রে প্রগাঢ় পাণ্ডিত্য   অর্জন করেন  যার ফলে তিনি প্রথমে সংশয়বাদী হয়েছে উঠেছিলেন । ঈশ্বর জ্ঞানের জন্য তিনি ব্রাহ্মসমাজে যাতায়াত শুরু করেছিলেন কিন্তু তাঁর ঈশ্বর জিজ্ঞাসার কোনো সদুত্তর তিনি তখনও পর্যন্ত পাননি। এ রকম মানসিক অবস্থায় তিনি লাভ করলেন "যত মত তত পথে" এর প্রবক্তা শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংস দেবের সান্নিধ্য লাভ। 

প্রতিবেশী সুরেন্দ্রনাথ মিত্রের বাড়ি ধর্মমূলক গান গাইবার জন্য ডাক পড়েছিল নরেন্দ্রনাথের আর সেখানেই হয়েছিল তাঁর রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের সাথে প্রথম সাক্ষাত্। প্রথম দর্শনেই অভিভূত হয়ে পড়েছিলেন নরেন্দ্রনাথ। ঠাকুরের কাছ থেকে দক্ষিণেশ্বরে আসার আমন্ত্রণ পেলেন নরেন্দ্রনাথ এবং সেই আকর্ষণ ক্রমশ তীব্র থেকে তীব্রতর হয়ে উঠল । সেই সময় পিতার আকস্মিক মৃত্যু ও চরম অর্থসংকট নরেন্দ্রনাথের পরিবারে চরম বিপর্যয় হেনেছিল।

রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের সান্নিধ্যে এসে তাঁর সমস্ত সংশয় দূরীভূত হয়েছিল। এক দিন শুভ লগ্নে তিনি শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণ দেবের কাছ থেকে সন্ন্যাস ব্রতের দীক্ষা নিলেন। নরেন্দ্রনাথের সন্ন্যাসজীবনের নাম হল 'স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ'। শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের মহাপ্রয়াণের পর স্বামীজি পরিব্রাজক হয়ে সমগ্র ভারতে ঘুরতে লাগলেন। জাতি -ধর্ম -নির্বিশেষে সকলের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে মিশে তিনি ভারতের প্রকৃত রূপের সন্ধান পেলেন। ভারতের অগণিত মানুষের সীমাহীন দারিদ্র্য তাঁর মনকে ব্যথিত করল।

ভারত পথিক বিবেকানন্দ ভারত পর্যটনে বেরিয়ে পরিক্রমা করলেন হিমালয় থেকে কন্যাকুমারিকা। মিশলেন হিন্দু, মুসলমান, চন্ডাল, দরিদ্র, অজ্ঞ, সাধারণ মানুষের সঙ্গে।অনুভব করলেন নির্যাতিত মানুষের হৃদয়ের যন্ত্রণা ব্যথিত হলেন শত শত যুগের সামাজিক ও ধর্মীয়  অত্যাচারে বিনষ্ট-মনুষ্যত্ব  ভারতীয়দের জন্য। তাঁর অগ্নিগর্ভ বাণীতে স্পন্দিত হলো আ -কুমারিকা হিমাচল। জেগে উঠল শক্তি মগ্ন ভারত। ভবিষ্যৎ ভারতের স্বপ্নদ্রষ্টা  ,অনাগত দিনের পথপ্রদর্শক, ভারত পথিক বিবেকানন্দ শোনালেন নবজীবনের জাগরণ মন্ত্র।         

• শিক্ষক  বিশ্বধর্মসভায় বিবেকানন্দ | স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের মানবতাবাদ

১৮৯৩ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ ছিল ইতিহাসের এক স্মরণীয় দিন। আমেরিকার শিকাগো শহরে বিশ্ব মহাধর্ম সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হবার সংবাদ পেলেন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ। কিন্তু সেখানে তিনি ছিলেন অনাহূত; তা সত্ত্বেও কিছু ভক্তের অনুরোধে তিনি আমেরিকার পথে পাড়ি দিলেন বেদান্ত ধর্মপ্রচারের মহৎ উদ্দেশ্য কে সঙ্গে নিয়ে।গৈরিক শিরভূষণ,গৈরিক পরিধান ও সন্ন্যাসীর বেশে বিবেকানন্দ এসে পৌঁছালেন শিকাগো শহরে।

কিন্তু প্রবেশের ছাড়পত্র তাঁর ছিল না কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত মহৎ হৃদয় আমেরিকাবাসীর সহায়তায় তিনি কিছু সময়ের জন্য বক্তৃতা দেওয়ার অনুমতি নিয়ে ধর্মসভায় প্রবেশ করলেন।মঞ্চে উঠে শ্রোতাবর্গকে আত্মীয়তার উষ্ণ আবেগে সম্বোধন করলেন,"আমেরিকাবাসী ভাই ও বোনেরা"। মুহূর্তে উচ্ছ্বসিত করতালির ধ্বনিতে অভিনন্দিত হলেন প্রাচ্যের এই বীর সন্ন্যাসী।তিনি উদাত্ত কণ্ঠে শোনালেন ,কোনো মানুষেরই ধর্ম পরিবর্তন করার প্রয়োজন নেই।

আধ্যাত্মিকতা, পবিত্রতা -কোনো ধর্মসম্প্রদায়ের একচেটিয়া নয়। তিনি বললেন সামঞ্জস্য ও শান্তির কথা, প্রশংসা- মুখর শ্রোতামণ্ডলীরা হলেন অভিভূত।এরপর স্বামীজি আমেরিকা ও ইংল্যান্ডের নানা স্থানে বেদান্ত দর্শন ব্যাখ্যা করে বেড়াতে লাগলেন। অনেকেই তাঁর শিষ্যত্ব গ্রহণ করলেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে অন্যতম ছিলেন মার্গারেট নোবেল; ভারতের মাটিতে এসে যিনি হয়েছিলেন,'ভগিনী নিবেদিতা '।   ১৮৯৬ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ স্বদেশে প্রত্যাবর্তন করেছিলেন ।

• সংগঠক বিবেকানন্দ | স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ও যুব সমাজ রচনা

স্বদেশে ফিরেও বিবেকানন্দ ক্লান্তিহীন কর্মী। বিবিধ সাংগঠনিক কাজে তিনি ডুবে গেলেন। পরমুখাপেক্ষী, পরাণুকরণ-প্রিয় ভীরু ভারতবাসীকে নবজীবনের আদর্শে অনুপ্রাণিত ও আত্মশক্তিতে বলীয়ান করার ব্রত নিয়ে গড়ে তুললেন এক দল আদর্শ সন্ন্যাসী। তাঁরা স্বামীজির বাণী বিগ্রহ হয়ে ছড়িয়ে পড়লেন দিকে দিকে।

১৮৯৭ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে বিবেকানন্দ প্রতিষ্ঠা করলেন মানবসেবার অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠান, 'রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন'। ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে গড়ে উঠল তাঁর পরিকল্পিত ব্রহ্মচর্যাশ্রম। ১৮৯৯ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে বিবেকানন্দ তাঁর নিরলস পরিশ্রমে গঙ্গার পশ্চিম তীরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করলেন নবযুগের অন্যতম পুণ্য পীঠস্থান 'বেলুড় মঠ'।

১৯০০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে প্যারিসে বিশ্বেধর্ম সম্মেলনে যোগদান করার জন্য তাঁর  কাছে আমন্ত্রণ আসায় তিনি পাড়ি দিলেন ইউরোপের পথে।বিশ্ববাসীকে মুগ্ধ করলেন তাঁর বৈপ্লবিক চিন্তা ভাবনায়।হিন্দুধর্মের অন্তর্নিহিত সত্য বাণী প্রচারের কাজে তিনি নিজেকে উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন। পরবর্তীকালে তিনি স্বদেশে ফিরলেন তবে অত্যধিক পরিশ্রমের ফলে তাঁর স্বাস্থ্য ভঙ্গুর হয়ে উঠেছিল।

১৯০২ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৪ঠা জুলাই এই মহা তাপস  হলেন সমাধিমগ্ন ।সেই সমাধি আর ভাঙল না। মাত্র ঊনচল্লিশ বছর বয়সেই এই মহাজীবনের ঘটল মহাপ্রয়াণ।

• সাহিত্যকীর্তি

শুধু কর্মের জগতেই নয় সাহিত্য সাধনার পুষ্টিবিধানের ক্ষেত্রেও তিনি ছিলেন নতুন যুগের বাণীবাহক। তাঁর, 'পরিব্রাজক', 'ভাববার কথা', 'প্রাচ্য ও পাশ্চাত্য' , 'বর্তমান ভারত' এর মতো বিভিন্ন প্রবন্ধ আর অজস্র চিঠিপত্রে তাঁর  সেই অমোঘ বাণী মুদ্রিত হয়ে আছে। তিনি অনায়াস স্বাচ্ছন্দে বেশির ভাগই চলিত বাংলা গদ্য লিখতেন। তাঁর গদ্য ভাষা থেকে যেন আগুনের স্ফুলিঙ্গের বিচ্ছুরণ হতো। প্রকাশভঙ্গী ,সাবলীলতা ও বক্তব্যের বলিষ্ঠতায় তাঁর প্রতিটি গদ্য রচনা স্বাতন্ত্র্যে চিহ্নিত ।তাঁর বহু রচনা ইংরেজি ভাষায় রচিত । 

• স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ হিন্দু ধর্ম

বৈদান্তিক  সন্ন্যাসী হয়েও স্বামীজি সংসার পলাতক ছিলেন না। 'যত্র জীব,তত্র শিব'- এই মহাবাণী দ্বারা উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে তিনি সারাজীবন স্বদেশের ও স্বদেশীয় দুর্গত মানুষের কল্যাণ ভাবনাতেই ব্যয় করেছেন। তিনি ছিলেন আধুনিক ভারতের ভাগীরথ ;ছিলেন নবযুগের চালক। তমসাচ্ছন্ন আদর্শভ্রষ্ট জাতিকে অভিশাপমুক্ত করতেই তাঁর পুণ্য আবির্ভাব।

তিনি ধর্মান্ধ জাতিকে দৃপ্তকণ্ঠে বলেছিলেন ,দরিদ্র নিপীড়িত আর্ত মানুষের সেবাই হলো ঈশ্বর সাধনা; অসহায় মানুষই আমাদের  প্রকৃত  ঈশ্বর। এক বলিষ্ঠ ভারত গঠনই ছিল তাঁর স্বপ্ন ,তাঁর ব্রত।প্রত্যক্ষ রাজনীতিতে যোগ না দিলেও তাঁর প্রেরণায় সেদিন হাজার হাজার ভারতীয় যুবক যে দেশপ্রেমের দীক্ষা নিয়েছিলেন পরবর্তীকালে দেশ জননীর মুক্তির জন্য তারা যে আত্মত্যাগের ব্রত গ্রহণ করেছিলেন, তার পিছনে স্বামীজির প্রেরণা কাজ করেছিল ।

শ্রী অরবিন্দ ,নেতাজি সুভাষ প্রমুখ কালজয়ী প্রবুদ্ধ মহাপুরুষ স্বামীজির মন্ত্রে উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়েছিলেন -এ কথা ঐতিহাসিক সত্য। যথার্থই, স্বামীজি ছিলেন ভারত আত্মার জ্যোতির্ময় বিগ্রহ; ছিলেন নবযুগের প্রাণপুরুষ ।তাঁর জীবনবেদ আজও আমাদের প্রেরণার উৎস।

Margaret Elizabeth Noble was a teacher, social reformer and an Indian nationalist, who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of women’s education in India. Sister Nivedita was a disciple of Swami Vivekananda and was famous for her philanthropic works and also as a beloved teacher. Sister Nivedita Biography

Margaret Noble was born in Tyrone, Ireland, on October 28, 1867, and came from Irish ancestry. 

• Her father, Samuel Noble, served as a priest in an Irish Church, and her mother, Mary Noble, was a young kindhearted woman.
• She used to frequently accompany her grandfather and father to the homes of the poor, offering her assistance. Margaret had a remarkable capacity for empathy.
• This led to growing dissatisfaction with the practices of the existing orthodox religion, causing her to suffer from doubt and uncertainty. 
• She became an ardent supporter and disciple of Swami Vivekananda after she met in the year 1895.
• It was during this period that Swami Vivekananda arrived in London, spreading his message of Vedanta. Margaret described his words as “living water to men perishing of thirst.”
• She became a teacher at the age of 17 and was supposed to get married. However, her fiance died before their marriage. 
• She came back to Bengal in the year 1895 after extensively studying subjects like physics, literature, music and various religious books.

Sister Nivedita: As Teacher

Nivedita established her school at No.16, Bosepara Lane in Bagh Bazar, Kolkata on November 13, 1898, with the blessings of the Holy Mother. 

• At that time, parents from the Orthodox Indian society were reluctant to send their daughters to a school, especially one led by a woman from a different culture. 
• However, Nivedita succeeded in starting with a few girls of various ages. Meeting the school’s expenses and sustaining herself was extremely challenging. 
• Her life was forever altered on 25 March 1898, the day she entered monastic life. Swami Vivekananda welcomed her into the Brahmacharya vow, bestowing upon her the name ‘Nivedita’, which translates to ‘the dedicated one’.
• This made her the inaugural Western woman to formally commit to monastic life in India.
• She also formed a deep bond with Sarada Devi, the wife of Ramakrishna, and became deeply devoted to her.

“If the many and the One be indeed the same Reality, then it is not all modes of worship alone, but equally all modes of work, all modes of struggle, all modes of creation, which are paths of realization. No distinction, henceforth, between sacred and secular. To labour is to pray. To conquer is to renounce. Life is itself religion. To have and to hold is as stern a trust as to quit and to avoid.” ― Sister Nivedita

Sister Nivedita embarked on extensive travels throughout India, gaining profound knowledge of Indian history and philosophy, as well as acquiring the ability to speak Bengali. Swami Vivekananda entrusted her with the mission of advancing women’s education in India. 

In June 1899, Nivedita travelled to Europe and America to seek financial support for her school in India. She returned in February 1902, the same year Swami Vivekananda passed away. To honour his legacy, she intensified her efforts, driven by her belief that a nation under foreign rule could not hope for social, political, or cultural renewal. Nivedita made her school a hub for nationalistic activities, with Vande Mataram as the school’s prayer.

The Kolkata Plaque

In March 1899, a plague epidemic struck Kolkata. Inspired and guided by Vivekananda, Nivedita took immediate action to combat the crisis. 

• She formed a team of dedicated individuals among the inspired youth who joined her in the fight. 
• They cleaned the streets and alleys and cared for the sick. Nivedita worked tirelessly, often forgoing meals and rest. 
• She even stopped drinking milk to save money for others. Her health deteriorated as she travelled from house to house, desperately seeking to overcome death. 
• At times, Nivedita stayed with the grieving for hours, providing comfort and sympathy. Her team continued their relentless efforts for a month before they managed to control the disease.

Books by Sister Nivedita

Some of her notable works include – 

In 1911, at the age of 43, Sister Nivedita passed away in Darjeeling, West Bengal due to poor health. A memorial was built in Darjeeling to honour her, which reads, ‘Here lies Sister Nivedita, who dedicated her life to India.”

Nivedita was a follower of Swami Vivekananda and hence, Swami Vivekananda gave her the name Nivedita.

Sister Nivedita was an author, Irish teacher, social activist and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. She relentlessly worked for the upliftment of women’s education and worked on the path described by Swami Vivekananda.
