How to Write an Effective Information Technology Personal Statement

Most universities require you to submit a personal statement that has a description of your personality. They want to know your interests and needs to qualify you to enroll for the course. The length of the personal statement entirely depends on the institution because others allow you to write above 1000 words statement while others will restrict it below 100 words. 

Introduce yourself well in the first paragraph

The first paragraph of your personal statement should tell a brief story about your personality, character, and your interests in the course. The person reading your statement should get to know you before anything else. Tell the admission officer at the college that you are excited and ready to learn and build your career by enrolling in their university.

By introducing yourself, you capture the admission officer’s attention and will want to continue reading your personal statement further. Let the admission officer feel like he knows you as soon as he starts reading. Also, you should state what you wish to gain after successful completion of the course. 

Outline your skills, strengths, and experiences

Within the body, you should express your skills, experiences, or any other thing that drives you to want to take a course in the Information Technology field. Mention also the work experiences you have gained through your career. 

Be honest with your skills because even if you get the admission, it is a matter of time the truth to be known. Highlight what you can do in the best honest way possible, even if it is little.

Finish with a strong conclusion

When you conclude well, you create an unforgettable impression in the mind of the University admission officer. To increase the chances of getting an enrollment call or an admission letter, you can also highlight some of the key points.

In your conclusion, you can include a short text of one sentence, especially if the length of the personal statement is short. Be sure to link your personal experiences, strength, and skills with the university. 

Go through your work before submitting

The quality of your work determines the dedication you can accord to a task and the level of your seriousness. When you submit clean work, it shows that you know what you are doing, you gave it enough time, and you are really interested in the course. 

If you want your personal statement to be read beyond the introduction paragraph, consider spending a lot of time planning ideas, writing, proofreading, and editing it before submitting.

This section contains additional writing tips to consider when writing a personal statement. A personal statement is all about yourself, so use your own words to describe yourself, strengths, skills, goals, and achievements. Your personal statement should be uniquely yours, and you should not copy someone’s work. 

Include some of your  personal achievements , projects completed, and goals to make it look unique and personalized. Most of the personal writings have a fixed length that some are shorter than 150 words. For this reason, you should make it simple and while targeting everything. Lastly, use a positive tone and active voice to express your enthusiasm and to engage the reader directly.

ICT and Computing Personal Statement

I wish to study an IT and Computer related course as I believe both of these subjects will provide the basis for me to progress into a career with great potential.  I am a hardworking, ambitious young man who is looking forward to the many challenges that University will bring me.

I believe the use of IT are the foundations of major businesses and help them to grow and develop. With the improvements in technology businesses are always looking to strengthen their IT systems to enhance their performance and efficiency. I hope to develop my existing skills and knowledge to become a successful computer technician.

Currently I am studying Level 3 Business and IT Double Award. These are my favourite subjects because I am a huge enthusiast of IT and Business. I have learned the key components of a computer system and how each components works within the system. This knowledge would allow me to consult others and possibly support individuals or businesses to upgrade their IT operations.

Computer development has been a part of my life since an early age. During my childhood I would enjoy developing and constructing technology devices. Learning kinetically about new and advance technological equipment sparked my interest in the subject. My interest rapidly developed through my education at school, these experiences combined with my Business acumen has strengthened my desire to study these subjects at a higher level.

Presently I am learning about the history of computer technology. This was part of my assignment to acknowledge how our society has changed the way we use computers.  To reinforce my knowledge I recently attended a trip to the Centre of Life to learn the history of gaming, computers and IT systems. I was able to use and assess the quality of the computers equipment, nowadays modern day laptops have 1.9GHZ speeds and 1TB RAM  of memory compared to a 30 year old, Commodore 64 which is a  8-bit home computer with a 1.023MHz processor, 64kb RAM memory, 320×200 display output, 16 colours with a weight of 1.8kg, a basic 2.0 Commodore GEOS operating systems and an estimated of 10,000 commercial software which are specifically designed for this computer including office applications, games and development tools. This visit allowed me to gain the knowledge on how technology improves within the years and learnt me about the different parts of computer system. Attending university will offer me the opportunity to gain more experience and learn about computer information and systems.

When I was in year 11 I secured a week’s work experience at Sainsbury’s, my role was to interact with the customers, insure the shelves were frequently stocked and to help the cashiers. This experience was great as I was able to work as part of a successful team and the job allowed me to take on additional responsibilities. I learnt the importance of being reliable, trustworthy and excellent customer service. During my time there I developed my decision making and communication skills. I also realised how important their IT system was insuring the smooth running of the business. There main IT system at Sainsbury’s was the barcode scanners because each item has a unique code to clarify the right product and price that the company have listed on the till monitoring screen. This also takes into consideration stock control and informs the company of how many items the store has sold.

In my spare time I like to play seven a side football weekly at my local Sport Centre. I enjoy keeping healthy alongside the socially interaction of playing sports with my friends. We also visit the cinemas to watch the latest films. As a football fan I attend all of my favourite football team’s home games.

I am a highly motivated individual, thieve under pressure and capable to work in any circumstances, that involves in my subjects and I always give my 100% because I am determined to do well in my future career and to have a satisfied life that I deserve.

Having grown up in a world increasingly dependent on computers, I have witnessed the fast-paced innovative world that computer scientists work in. From a young age I have been following the advanced technical developments humanity has made in exciting fields such as AI and Robotics. I remember being in awe at what was possible with technology after seeing the footage in 2017 of Atlas, the robot made by Boston Dynamics, doing a backflip. The work conducted in Japan is equally, if not more, impressive, with the development of Pepper, the first robot designed to read emotions, in 2014. Watching what computer scientists make possible greatly inspires me and I believe a Masters in Computer Science at your university will help me enter a fascinating field.

I am on track to graduate from my undergraduate degree in Computer Science with a first. I have enjoyed studying the subject at this level and look forward to continuing to more advanced content.

Since school age I have been good at mathematical subjects. I believe that logical thinking comes naturally to me. During my teenage years I took an interest in self-assembling my own computer. This allowed me to explore the inner workings of computers and learn how each part fits together to work as a larger system. What I enjoy about computers is that behind the complex structures, it is just a lot of simple elements.

After working with the hardware side, I went on to explore software. I first became interested in the different operating systems available. I then went on to learn different coding languages, mainly Python, after starting a GCSE in Computing. I believe that coming from a multilingual family helped me learn coding languages. After finishing my GCSE course, I continued to develop my abilities in Python and began to read about other languages and their uses.

During the first year of my undergraduate I also had the fortunate opportunity to build a robot for the Robot Wars reboot with a team made up of my course mates. Not only was this a particularly valuable learning experience, but I greatly enjoyed the teamwork element of creation. Being able to bounce ideas off each other showed me just how exciting technological creation can be as you face a world of possibilities. Unfortunately, our robot did not win but we had a lot of fun and were able to learn from our mistakes.

Throughout my life my hobbies and qualifications have led up to a growing passion for computers. The world is becoming increasingly reliant on computers to help solve many of humanity’s problems. In addition, Computer Science also a fun medium to work with because of the many possibilities it presents. It is rare to find a field that is so vital to society and is extremely enjoyable and that is why I hope to work in a Computer Science field one day. I believe the education opportunities that this course can provide will help me get there.

Business and ICT degree personal statement example (1b)

At college the various courses that I currently study are A2 Economics, AVCE ICT Double Award, and AS Chemistry. In the previous year I studied AS Geography, however I decided that I did not wish to continue the course into the second year. My favourite subject that I am studying is ICT. The ICT industry has been becoming more prominent and influential in the running of most businesses and corporations. A Personal Computer is being relied on more for domestic use as well

Computers and their technology affect each and every one of us. So the demand for people with considerable ICT knowledge is ever growing

The main reason that I find this course interesting is the knowledge that I gain in a large amount and variety of software. I have already used many applications, and I am able to use this software extensively. The software that I have been practising includes Microsoft Excel, Microsoft FrontPage, Illuminatus Opus Pro, and Sage

I am currently conducting coursework's on Microsoft Access and Visual Basic. I understand that a lot of these applications are used in businesses today

I also enjoy looking at how ICT is applied in businesses. This is also part of the AVCE ICT course - it teaches you how businesses apply ICT and how it affects their company. My enthusiasm for both ICT and businesses has led me to want to pursue a degree that involves the theme's Business and Information Systems. I hope this degree will aid me in a conceivable career in the information technology sector

For work experience, I worked as an assistant manager in Superdrug. At first, my responsibilities were on the shop floor where I stocked the shelves and helped customers. I helped them with any difficulties such as finding a product, or assisting them. As the week progressed, I was given tasks such as ordering goods that needed to be re-supplied, doing picking lists etc. I had to work co-operatively in the stock room to find certain items, and to ensure that all the goods had been delivered that morning

When I was younger, I went weekly to Scouts. A lot of my friends attended scouts as well. I participated in charity walks for 2 years running. Here I had to walk continuously for 20 miles in order to raise money for charity. It was good for me, as I felt that I was doing something productive for charity. I was proud of what I did. At Whitmore High School, I was part of my form's indoor football squad. I got the opportunity to play with my classmates in a school tournament

It was a great experience, as it involved communication and a lot of teamwork, and because of the fact that football is my favourite sport

I also attended weekly badminton sessions at high school, over the course of the final year. I looked forward to playing every week, as I was able to compete against my friends in an accessible, yet fun sport

I have been fortunate enough to travel to many destinations around the world on holiday. I have been to India, Florida, France and several Spanish islands over the last 11 years. Visiting such locations has broadened my perspective on life, and has made me aware of other people's lifestyles. I really enjoy meeting a wide range of people and learning about different cultures and traditions. Out of the various locations that I have visited, I would say that the Spanish (and European) lifestyle is the one that I am most intrigued by. This is because the cities are vibrant and the people are quite relaxed and laid back - but at the same time they have a great work ethic. If I have the opportunity to travel in my future career, I would like to be working somewhere in Western Europe

I am greatly looking forward to university life, as I will have the opportunity to meet new people, become more independent and further my life experience. I believe that with my hardworking, enthusiastic and devoted attitude I will be very successful at completing my degree to the highest standard. In the future, I hope to use my degree to begin a successful career as an Economic Analyst.

Degree Objective: Ph.D. in Management Information Systems

It has been my childhood dream and a long-term academic goal to teach and publish research. Having majored in accounting in my undergraduate and graduate studies. I would now like to obtain a doctorate degree in Management Information Systems. I became interested in Information Technology several years ago when I served as both a project accountant and IT Manager at a design company and later as a business analyst for another firm. In my undergraduate study, I had the opportunity to be exposed to a range of business, statistics and information systems courses which reinforced my interest in accounting and information systems. In addition, I am a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and have taken graduate courses in financial statement analysis, data analytics, taxation of business entities, etc. which were enjoyable and enlightening providing me with a different view on the world in which we live. My undergraduate and master’s degree coursework involved a combination of accounting, statistics and Data Analytics courses. For the research requirement of my masters degree, I concentrated on the potential impact of blockchain technology for CPA’S and other practitioners.

My academic and professional goal is to conduct a world class research in Management Information Systems and publish in tier one journals drawing from influences of my academic studies. In terms of a career, I see myself teaching and publishing in finance My long-term career objective is to teach, conduct research and produce research publications that would add value and contribute to my field of specialisation. Completing a doctorate degree will bring a deep sense of accomplishment. It will give me the priceless opportunity to be challenged, motivated and learn. Although my career experience has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to further my knowledge in business analysis, project accounting and management, a doctoral program will allow me to continue with my quest for knowledge and provide me with an environment where I can conduct research.

Doctoral studies would be valuable to me in several ways. With an impressive faculty and a strong academic reputation, I believe my academic goals align with the Georgia State University (GSU) graduate program to which I am applying. Your doctoral program would allow me to think innovatively, use cutting edge research in Information Systems and establish myself as a leading researcher in information systems. I have no doubt that your school would contribute tremendously towards the achievement of my long-term goal. Throughout the course of my doctoral studies, I hope to examine the conflict between the traditional role of IT project management and innovation. Completing projects on time, within budget, and within scope has become a huge challenge for many organisations. Nearly half of businesses are experiencing project failure in a given year. I am interested in looking at the phases and processes in project management from the perspectives of people, process & tool focusing my research on project manager leadership, team work, team member competencies, project team effectiveness, including how to effectively initiate, plan, execute, control, and complete projects as well as examine new tools that are available to IT project managers, Through the Ph.D. program, I hope to find answers to the question of how to find the right strategy that allows for oversight without stifling creativity and how can businesses re-imagine IT project management to suit their unique needs. I plan to work further on best practices for managing large Information Technology projects using emerging technologies and prepare a paper suitable for publication in my studies toward the doctoral degree, I hope to examine more closely the relationship between people, processes and tools in project management and consider role of each of them..

I believe I can make a great contribution to Management Information Systems using my background and experience in project accounting and business analysis. My capabilities and motivation to do independent research at the doctoral level is enhanced by my strong knowledge of Information Technology and Business Administration, strong analytical ability, a passion for analyzing problems rigorously and solving them ingenuously, and an excellent writing and presentation skills. I am highly motivated and driven with a capacity to make significant contribution to society. As a professor, I would impact knowledge, encourage innovation, inspire students, and bring out their hidden talents.

There is still much to be explored and studied in information systems academia, and I believe that Georgia State University doctoral program would provide me with the knowledge necessary to understand and apply information systems theories which I could in turn bring to my teaching and research career. I am committed and determined to succeed at the Ph.D. program, and I am confident that I will be able to contribute to the university community in my area of interest. SIE 554A: Systems Engineering Process

This program covers the process and tools for systems engineering of large-scale, complex systems: requirements, performance measures, concept exploration, multi-criteria tradeoff studies, life cycle models, system modeling, etc. Graduate-level requirements include extensive sensitivity analysis of their final projects.

SIE 558: Model-based Systems Engineering

This course introduces model-based systems engineering (MBSE), the formalized application of modeling to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification, and validation activities beginning in the conceptual design phase and continuing throughout development and later life cycle phases. It emphasizes the practical use of the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and MBSE methods.

SIE 550: Theory of Linear Systems

This is an intensive study of continuous and discrete linear systems from the state-space viewpoint, including criteria for observability, controllability, and minimal realizations. It also optionally covers aspects of optimal control, state feedback, and observer theory.

SIE 531: Simulation Modeling and Analysis

Learn discrete event simulation, model development, statistical design and analysis of simulation experiments, variance reduction, random variate generation, Monte Carlo simulation. Graduate-level requirements include a library research report.

SIE 520: Stochastic Modeling I

In this course, you will focus on modeling stochastic processes from an applied viewpoint. Markov chains in discrete and continuous time, renewal theory, applications to engineering processes.

SIE 530: Engineering Statistics

Learn about the statistical methodology of estimation, testing hypotheses, goodness-of-fit, nonparametric methods, and decision theory related to engineering practice – with significant emphasis on the underlying statistical modeling and assumptions. Graduate-level requirements include additionally more difficult homework assignments.

Through the studying of this course, I will be able to gain invaluable in-depth and practical knowledge which will help me in starting a successful career. In addition, the opportunity to apply my theories and ideas in practice will benefit me to enhance my skills and knowledge and to achieve a deeper understanding of the field of programming, database systems, software engineering, computer architecture and networks.

According to my research I have found that the MSc Computing and Information Communication Technology develops future leaders who can bring data skills and insight to their profession. After reading through the modules and the learning outcome of the MSc Computing and Information Communication Technology course, I have realized that they are conceptually invigorating and very contemporary. Following the completion of mySenior School Certificate Examination, I studied Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Enugu State University of Science, Enugu, Nigeria in 2021. Since my graduation, I have been researching on the various computer related higher education courses both in the UK and other English-speaking countries. After much research, I have found this course at UEL to be a perfect fit to both my previous education, as well as my future career goals I have. My previous course and my interest in this subjectwill be complementary to my prospective study since my existing knowledge in the field through my bachelor’s degreemeans I will be able to better understand the concepts of the course. These are the things which have motivated me to pursue this course at University of East London. If I can successfully complete this course, it will create a platform to pursue different career opportunities in Nigeria and establish my career as a Senior Software Architect in a leading tech company, such as 9Mobile, Google Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria.

UEL offers Programming Fundamentals, Computer Architecture and Networks, Database Systems, Software Engineering, and Mental Wealth: Professional Life. All the modules are highly demanding and suitable totoday’s world. For professionals, I believe that this course would be the right choice who are looking for a successful career in Computer and Software Development sector.

I am determined to study this course in the UK as the study environment in my country is quite different and we only have the opportunity to study with local students. Furthermore, due to periods of unexpected political unrest, students often struggle to finish their degrees on time. Conversely, the UK has a great multicultural and diversified student community which is an opportunity for me to learn with lot of students from different nationalities. UK education brand is highly respected by employers in our country as UK degree prepare graduates with academic competencies, developed personal and professional skills that are imperative for organizational success. Data Security Incident (July 3rd, 2024) FAQ

Q: what happened.

A: On June 29, 2024, we learned that your personal information in your Roll20.net account may have been exposed when a bad actor gained access to our administrative website account. The bad actor modified one user account, and we promptly reversed those modifications. During this time, the bad actor was able to access and view all user accounts.

Q: When did the event occur?

A: We realized our network had been compromised at approximately 6:30 P.M. Pacific Standard time on June 29. By 7:30 P.M., we had blocked all unauthorized access and ended the network Breach.

Q: What kind of information was exposed in this event?

A: The bad actor had access to administrative account website controls during the breach. This allowed the bad actor to access, view, and modify user accounts, and it is possible that the bad actor may have been able to view Roll20 users’ personally identifiable information, including:

• The user’s first and last name;
• The user’s e-mail address;
• The user’s last known IP address; and
• The last four digits of the user’s credit card, if the user maintained a stored payment method in their Roll20 account.

Notably, your password was not exposed (because we only store a salted, bcrypt hash of your password), nor was payment information such as your full card number (we do not store that information on our servers, it is stored with our payment processors).

Q: What is Roll20 doing in response to the event?

A: State laws require that we notify you in writing and we want you to be aware of this incident because some of your personal information may have been taken. We’re committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. While we have no reason to believe that your personal information has been misused, we are notifying you so that you have the information and tools necessary to help detect and prevent any misuse of your personal information.

Q: What is Roll20 doing to prevent similar events from happening in the future?

A: Roll20 has examined and analyzed existing procedures and systems, and, in response to that analysis, is now implementing an action plan which will:

• Further restrict access to the administrative accounts to prevent unauthorized account access;
• Further restrict the data that an administrative user can access; and
• Add enhanced security measures as needed to prevent this incident from happening again.

Business and it personal statement example 2.

What would life be without technology? In this world that we live in it is impossible to be fully efficient in a business society without having grasp knowledge of information and communications technology. Information technology ever changing in our business society and I desire to be a part of this changing process.

Through out years of studying Information Technology I have grown to like the subject. Although, part of the course is somewhat demanding, the further involvement in the course is what has drawn me most to the course.

My utmost belief is that a combination of both courses would enlighten and engage me through out my degree course. In my years of studying information and communication technology I have used softwares like Macromedia Flash and Macromedia Dreamweaver to create websites and also the use of Microsoft Access to arrange data bases for businesses as my coursework.

Both Business and Information and Communications Technology are subjects I am totally in love with and testimony to this fact is the AS Award for Information and Communications Technology I received in the recent past. I have also excelled greatly in Business Studies both in GCSE level and AS level and hope to excel further in years to come at your university.

The world has had a rapid grown in global markets through automation and e-commerce and this can be linked with Information Technology and the web with the ultimate goal of being more efficient in the rapidly growing global market. All these have provided me with inspiration to be involved in a world where new technology is being developed.

On a lighter note, I work in my school as a lunch time supervisor every lunch time for the past two years.

This job has taught me what commitment, hard work and time management is all about as I have managed to blend both my academics and my job together and still be prompt in submitting in work and preparing for exams and excelling in them.

I thrive in situations where I have to work under pressure as it makes me alert and spurs me in doing even greater things. My further sense of responsibility comes from my post as been Sanderson's events captain for my school. This has given me the opportunity to be in control and create events for the house as well as feel as part of a team.

Other aspects of life that interests me out of school are charitable works. I have seen first hand, the misfortune of people being born into the poverty trap and the human rights violations that ordinary people like us have to face because of the misfortune of being born into one of the poorest countries and continents on earth.

This has made me more aware than other teenagers of the less privileged and handicapped in every society I live and always eager to render my help and support in any way I can. This has led me to volunteer at the Little Monkey's Toddler group in Shaftesbury every week.

In addition to that every Friday, I go to a neighbouring disabled children's primary school to help the teachers out with their sporting activities. Furthermore I am a member of the global student forum in which our aim is to see changes in our society by using our initiative to make the world a better place.

Sometimes I see my self at the top floor of a business institution looking down at the works of my hands and I feel a sense of achievement, fulfilment, accomplishment and triumph all at the same time. In faith, this dream would be completed through hard work and commitment inside an Information technology and business degree for the next four years.

A wise man once told me that there are three types of people in this life, those that make it happen, those that watch it happen and those that ask: what happened? My aim is to be in the group of those who make it happen. I hope to be an asset to your university both academically and socially.

Boeing Agrees to Buy Spirit AeroSystems, a Longtime Supplier

The multibillion-dollar deal will reverse a decision the plane maker made two decades ago to outsource production of key parts to independent suppliers.

Boeing said on Monday that it had agreed to buy a major supplier, Spirit AeroSystems, ending a nearly two-decade experiment in outsourcing production of major components of its commercial planes, including the body of the 737 Max and parts of the 767, 777 and 787.

In buying Spirit, Boeing hopes to stem quality problems that have plagued the supplier in recent years. While it already has significant influence over Spirit, Boeing will more easily be able to monitor and change production practices by owning the business. Boeing has taken internal steps to improve quality, too, after a harrowing incident in which a panel blew out of one of its planes on a flight in January.

“By reintegrating Spirit,” Boeing’s chief executive, Dave Calhoun, said in a statement, the company “can fully align” its production and safety systems with its work force.

The deal, which was widely expected, was valued at $4.7 billion in stock or $8.3 billion including Spirit’s debt. It is subject to approval by regulators and Spirit’s shareholders. Boeing will also spin off portions of Spirit to Airbus, its European rival, as part of the transaction. Boeing said it expected its acquisition of Spirit to close by the middle of next year.

The purchase represents a strategic reversal for Boeing, which started relying more extensively on independent suppliers in the early 2000s to cut costs and raise profits. Spirit was created during that outsourcing drive in 2005, when Boeing sold a division in Wichita, Kan., and operations in Oklahoma.

Besides its work for Boeing, Spirit makes components for aerospace companies including Airbus, Bombardier, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Rolls-Royce. Boeing accounted for 64 percent of Spirit’s net revenue last year, while Airbus accounted for 19 percent. Boeing offered to buy Spirit at $37.25 per share, a 30 percent premium over Spirit’s stock price at the end of February before the two companies announced they were in talks.
