As a public relations employee, excellent writing skills are equally important as speaking skills. The cover letter should therefore reflect this. You should aim to keep the letter informative and engaging. The steps outlined in this article below can be used to create a professional public relations cover letter. 

Step 1: Header

The first element of the cover letter is the header. The header is used to identify who wrote the letter and who they were addressing it to. To this effect, consider writing down the following information.

Include your personal information

Start the header by providing personal details that the hiring manager can use to identify who you are. Write down your full name, job title (public relations officer in this case), and contact details. Provide a physical address, valid phone number, email, or LinkedIn profile URL as contact details. As a PR/Marketing Intern , you will be responsible for assisting in the management of one of our company’s clients and their public relations/marketing efforts. You will work closely with our team to plan and execute marketing campaigns, create engaging content, and support our new partnership with a dating app. Your role is crucial in maintaining a positive brand image and increasing our reach. The client is in entertainment/wellness. This gives you the opportunity to learn what it’s like to work on the client side of an agency (external marketing vs. internal marketing).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing PR and marketing content calendars and strategies.
  • Create and curate engaging content for various marketing channels (social media, email, blogs).
  • Monitor marketing channels, respond to inquiries, and engage with our community.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop visually appealing graphics and videos.
  • Analyze marketing insights and performance metrics to optimize content and campaigns.
  • Event Organization
  • Stay updated with marketing trends, best practices, and platform updates.
  • Support the planning and execution of events and promotional activities.
  • Help build and nurture relationships with influencers and brand advocates.
  • Assist in managing and growing our partnership with the dating app.
  • up to 10 hours per week.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Psychology, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with major marketing platforms and their features.
  • Strong written communication skills with a flair for creativity.
  • Basic graphic design skills and knowledge of photo/video editing tools are a plus.
  • Understanding of marketing analytics and reporting.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • For Credit – Will work with your instructor/school to ensure you receive school credit if available.
  • Hands-on experience in the wellness/entertainment and the marketing industry.
