In the near future, replacing the battery inside an iPhone won’t be a risk-prone, complex, and messy affair with glue everywhere. According to The Information, Apple is exploring a new technology that will make it easier for people to remove the battery unit inside their iPhones, making replacements and repairs more convenient.

Here’s the detail right from the horse’s mouth: "The new technology—known as electrically induced adhesive debonding—involves encasing the battery in metal, rather than foil as it is currently. That would allow people to dislodge the battery from the chassis by administering a small jolt of electricity to the battery, the people said."

It’s the first thing you’ll see upon waking up your phone , and it will always be waiting to be seen as the backdrop of your home screen. While Apple offers several fantastic default options for your wallpaper, it’s not unheard of to want just a little bit more than what Apple has to offer.

But, going online to find wallpapers can be frankly overwhelming. A quick search will return you more results than you could ever possibly comb through, and a lot of what you find might not even appeal to you. With well over a decade of smartphone usage behind me, I’ve found quite a number of fantastic wallpapers, but more importantly, quite a few great places to find more.

There are many iconic handheld gaming consoles, but one of the most iconic is the Game Boy Advance SP. With the GameBoy Advance SP - Wallpaper Collection by Isa Pinheiro , you can bring some of that iconic look to your iPhone. Each wallpaper in the collection is an unfolded Game Boy Advance SP of varying colors, including the NES-styled one. While the idea is simple enough on its face, what makes these wallpapers truly incredible is the framing. Specifically, Subreddits such as /r/iPhoneWallpapers , /r/MobileWallpapers , and /r/PhoneWallpapers . There are also plenty of niche Subreddits centered around wallpapers for various specific interests.

You can also use apps such as Vellum to find more wallpapers for your iPhone if your looking for a slightly more curated feed of wallpapers. There’s no end of choice when picking a backdrop for your phone’s home screens, and if you cannot settle on a single image, why not make an auto-rotating selection? It’s not difficult to do on either Android or iOS, and it means you can see your favorite loved ones, favorite landscapes, or whatever it is in a looping cycle.

With a little bit of extra know-how, you can go even further—changing your wallpaper based on location, for example, so you can have something professional and corporate in the office and something fun and goofy when you get back home.

Android Wallpaper

Android doesn’t have the innate ability to change the wallpaper automatically, but—as with most missing Android features—there are a host of third-party apps out there to help fill the gap. Most include a gallery of backdrops and the ability to change the wallpaper on a schedule.

One of the better ones we’ve come across is Auto Change Wallpaper , which is free with ads. Selecting the pictures you want to rotate between is straightforward. You can choose from the provided selection or pick your images from your gallery. Wallpapers can be changed at set times or with user actions (like double-tapping on the screen or locking the phone).

Walpy is also a really neat option. It lets you change the wallpaper on Android on a schedule you choose, but you can set some limits: You can only switch it when the phone is charging or on Wi-fi, for example, or when it’s idle. There are a bunch of great images sourced from Unsplash to choose from, and extra picture collections are available for a small fee—otherwise, the app is free to use.

Another app we’d recommend in this area is the sensibly named Wallpaper Changer . You can set the rotation schedule based on a certain number of minutes, hours, or days or have the wallpaper change every time you lock your phone (which might be an awful lot for many people). The app is free to use, though you get a few extra features in terms of options if you pay.

It’s also worth quickly mentioning Tasker , which can automate all kinds of tasks on your Android device, including changing the wallpaper. It takes a little while to learn the ropes of Tasker, but it’s worth the investment—one of the tricks you can do with it is automatically changing the wallpaper at sunrise and sunset, as explained here .

iPhone Wallpaper

iOS beats Android in this department because it has a built-in way to change the wallpaper automatically based on a schedule. To get to the wallpaper settings for your iPhone, open up Settings, then tap Wallpaper. You can swipe left and right to see the current wallpaper choices.

Tap Add New Wallpaper then Photo Shuffle to set up a slideshow that can be automatically cycled through as you go about your day. The next screen lets you choose one of the preset wallpaper albums or an album in your gallery. You can also choose Select Photos Manually to pick out pictures individually.

Via the Shuffle Frequency option, you can set how often these pictures change: every day, every hour, every time you lock your phone, or every tap you make on the lock screen. The wallpaper is set as the lock screen, and you can add a blurred version of the same image to your home screen if you want—this is an option at the end.

Apple doesn’t let third-party apps change the iPhone wallpaper, so you don’t get the same selection as you do on Android (so Android beats iOS here). You can do a few extra tricks via Apple’s own Shortcuts app, though it’s not quite as easy to change the wallpaper in this app as it used to be.

You first need to create a shortcut to select photos and set one of them as the wallpaper. If you’re not sure exactly how to do this, use this ChangeWallpaper shortcut as a template and adapt it. Then, switch to the Automation tab to run your new shortcut based on a certain trigger (like the time of day or a new location, for example).

iOS 18 to Feature New Dynamic Color-Shifting iPhone Wallpaper

Apple is including a new "dynamic" iPhone wallpaper in iOS 18 that automatically changes its appearance at various times by shifting colors.

It's not yet clear what triggers the color shift in the dynamic ‌iOS 18‌ wallpaper, but it changes automatically depending on the time of day. iOS 18 will finally give you Mac-style dynamic wallpapers – and they look great

Dynamic wallpapers to liven up your screen

Your iPhone will soon get a neat new feature when iOS 18 launches later this year: dynamic wallpapers. These will subtly change at various points throughout the day, giving you a phone background that automatically adjusts itself as the hours pass.

The feature has been spotted in the latest iOS 18 developer beta 3, which was released yesterday. If you’ve signed up to the developer beta, you can get the update by opening the Settings app on your iPhone and going to General > Software Update and selecting the Update Now button.

In previous iOS 18 betas, Apple had launched a handful of new wallpapers, as it does every year, including four named Yellow, Pink, Azure and Purple. However, these were static images – while each one had a light and a dark option, they would not change unless you specifically adjusted your wallpaper choice.

Now, there’s a fifth option named Dynamic (as you can see above). With this, iOS 18 handles the wallpaper change on your behalf. Instead of simply having light and dark editions, each background has numerous different versions that it cycles through over the course of the day. 

It’s not yet clear what the conditions are for each adjustment (such as how many hours elapse between each alteration), but it’s a pleasant feature to have on your iPhone.

Finally arriving on iOS

The macOS operating system for Apple’s Mac computers has featured dynamic wallpapers for years, so in a way it’s strange that iOS has taken so long to catch up.

The reason for the delay might be something to do with Apple’s increased customization options in iOS 18. For instance, there’s a new setting that can automatically change certain app icons from light to dark when you enable dark mode. Perhaps Apple wanted to wait for this feature to be ready before pairing it with dynamic wallpapers, as the two seem to go hand in hand.

Right now, iOS 18 is only available as a developer beta. However, the public beta is expected to launch at some point in July, with the full release following in a few months’ time. With plenty of interesting new features on the way, it could be one of the biggest overhauls in the history of iOS.

• Visit either website using a web browser on your phone, tablet or computer
• Select the album from which you want to download the photos
• Next, select the photo you like and tap/click on it
• Right-click and select the “Save Image as” option
• Choose the location and save the image on the device.

At WWDC, the tech giant stated that the next iPhone operating system will include a lot of new features, like more ways to customize your home screen , updates to the Messages app and an updated Siri with Apple Intelligence . Apple said online that the next operating system will be available to the general public this fall .

While many people won't get iOS 18 until later this year, developers can download the second iOS 18 developer beta now. We recommend downloading a beta on something other than your primary device. Since this isn't the final version of iOS 18, these features might be buggy and battery life may be short, and it's best to keep those troubles on a secondary device.

Customizable home and lock screens

Updated Control Center

Apple also announced that iOS 18 updates your iPhone's Control Center. With the next operating system, you'll be able to access more controls for things, like whatever music you're listening to and specific apps. You can also change which apps you see, as well as their size, so you have quicker access to the buttons you use more often.

Messages gets an upgrade

Your iPhone's Messages app will also get an update with iOS 18. Lock and hide certain apps

Letting someone borrow your iPhone can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially if you don't want them to see or access certain apps. But iOS 18 will allow you to lock and hide apps.

If you lock an app, it will then require your Face ID or passcode to unlock and access it. And if you just don't want someone to know you have a certain app on your iPhone, you can stash it in a Hidden apps folder in your App Library. This is similar to removing apps from your home screen without deleting them from your iPhone, but it arranges all your hidden apps in one place.

Redesigned Photos app

It can be fun to look at memories in your Photos app, but navigating through the app can be challenging if you take a lot of photos. So Apple announced iOS 18 will  redesign your iPhone's Photos app .

The redesign should make it easier to find specific photos by organizing your photos in more ways, like month and year. Photos will also be organized by theme, so if you're looking for photos from a trip, you should be able to find them faster.

The updated Photos app in iOS 18 will also let you filter out receipts and screenshots so they don't clog up your Library.

New password manager app

Apple is turning its password keychain feature into a full-blown app called Passwords . According to Apple, Passwords safely stores all your credentials in one place. It can also sync your passwords across your Apple devices. That way if you change your Netflix password on one device but not on another, the password will follow you so you don't forget it.

Apple Intelligence for Siri and more -- on certain iPhones

Apple announced that it's rolling out Apple Intelligence , its spin on generative AI, in iOS 18. But on Apple's website, the tech giant said these improvements will be available only on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max  for now. 

Apple Intelligence will bring improvements to Siri to make the assistant more capable and helpful, it will allow you to create new images called Genmojis and it will bring new writing tools and capabilities to those iPhones.

AirPods and hands-free Siri interactions

With iOS 18, if you're wearing the second generation of AirPods Pro, you'll be able to interact with Siri by nodding or shaking your head. So if you need to be quiet because the baby is sleeping or your partner is on an important phone call, you can keep Siri working without saying a word.

New Gestures Will Enhance the Way You Interact with Apple Devices

Notes app upgrades

Apple's iOS 18 will improve your Notes app. Notes will get live audio transcripts, collapsible sections to keep the app organized and the ability to highlight certain phrases. You'll also be able to solve mathematical problems in the app while you type.

These upgrades are similar to the Notes app upgrades Apple announced for  iPadOS 18 .

Game Mode will minimize background activities on your iPhone to improve your game's performance. It will also have improved responsiveness with AirPods and wireless gaming controllers, Apple says.

iPhone Mirroring

With iOS 18, iPhone users with a Mac will be able to access their iPhone remotely from their Mac. Apple is calling this feature iPhone Mirroring, and it will work in conjunction with the upcoming MacOS Sequoia. So instead of sending a file from your iPhone to your Mac, you'll be able to just access the file right on your Mac without any extra steps in between.

SharePlay screen sharing

SharePlay was introduced with iOS 15 in 2021 and lets Apple users share their screen with other people via FaceTime. And iOS 18 is giving SharePlay an upgrade. 

"With enhanced screen sharing capabilities, you can draw on someone's screen so they can see what they can do on theirs, or control their screen and take actions yourself," Apple wrote online. 

More ways to organize Mail

Apple said that with iOS 18, your iPhone's Mail app will organize your emails better. Your app will have new categories for things like receipts, newsletters and more. That way you don't have to dig through your emails and find an invitation to a party you forgot to respond to.

Tap to Cash

With iOS 18, it will be easier to send cash to your friends and family with Tap to Cash. With this new feature, you can send Apple Cash directly to others by bringing your iPhones close together, similar to how you can quickly AirDrop a photo or message to someone, or NameDrop your contact information to others, by bringing your iPhones close together.

Updates coming to Apple Wallet

Speaking of cash, your Wallet app is getting an upgrade in iOS 18, too. In the app, you'll be able to view your rewards or points balance, and you'll be able to redeem those points with Apple Pay online or in one of your apps. The app will also let you access any installment financing options your bank might offer.

Apple is also bringing new features to your event tickets in Wallet. Apple wrote online that the new features includes, "an event guide combining helpful information about the venue with recommendations from Apple apps."

With the second developer beta of iOS 18, Wallet also now lets you easily add a chipped debit or credit card to the app. Now, if you go into Wallet, tap the plus sign in the top right corner, tap Debit or Credit Card , then tap Continue , Wallet will ask you to bring the chipped card near your iPhone to add that card. If your card doesn't have a chip though, you can tap Enter Card Details Manually across the bottom of the screen.

Safari gets highlights and a redesigned Reader

With iOS 18, your iPhone's Safari app will detect important information on a page and highlight it for you. For example, directions and quick links to people and movies should be highlighted and easily findable.

Topographic maps in Maps

When Apple introduced iOS 17 in 2023, it brought offline maps to your iPhones Maps app. With iOS 18, Apple said your iPhone's Maps app will get topographical information, too. Maps will also get detailed hiking trail information, including routes from over 50 US national parks, so you can plan your next hike.

Journal app improvements

Apple also announced that iOS 18 will bring some changes to your iPhone's Journal app . Once upgraded, the app will let you log your state of mind, as well as help you track your goals. It will also give you certain stats, like writing streaks. You'll also be able to search within Journal for previous entries so you can find older thoughts and more.

Those are a few of the new features some developers will see in the second iOS 18 beta. That doesn't mean these are the only features coming to the next iOS update or that these changes will stick when iOS 18 is released to the public. As of now, Apple has only said iOS 18 will release this fall.

On June 21 st the U.S. Supreme Court found, in what will become an historic 8-1 ruling , that, “When an individual has been found by a court to pose a credible threat to the physical safety of another, that individual may be temporarily disarmed consistent with the Second Amendment.”

This decision in United States v. Rahimi comes just days before another landmark moment: the U.S Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has issued a Surgeon General’s Advisory on firearm violence in America, declaring it “an urgent public health issue” that “require[s] the nation’s immediate awareness and action.”

He’s right. If you look at the data, the numbers are shocking.

A stunning 54% of U.S. adults report in a recent national survey that either they, or a family member, have experienced a firearm-related incident. And nearly one in five American adults report having a family member who was killed by a firearm, including by suicide.

Our country has reached a near three-decade high in firearm-related deaths; and the latest CDC data finds suicides are at an all-time high – with firearms as the leading means of suicide completion.

These preventable deaths are making our nation feel less safe:

· Four out of five (79%) adults in the U.S. report “experiencing stress from the possibility of a mass shooting, and one in three adults (33%) say fear prevents them from going to certain places or events.”

· Half of 14-17 year olds in America reportedly worry about schools shootings, and according to The Washington Post , over 370,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine in 1999.

According to a 2023 Kaiser Family Foundation national survey, one in five adults say they’ve had a ... [+] family member killed by a gun, including suicide, and one in six have witnessed a shooting.

We as a nation have always held dear our right to bear arms – indeed, it was integral to our founding. As we reflect on Independence Day and celebrate all that makes our nation great – and there is truly so much to celebrate – we should remember we are a nation that has tackled our problems and shortcomings in the past with innovative solutions.

After some confusion following the interpretation of New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn., Inc. v. Bruen , courts and lawmakers have grappled with how they can legally address this growing challenge of firearm injury and death. Now, the Supreme Court has made clear that when an individual poses a threat to others, it is constitutional and in line with historical precedent to temporarily remove access to firearms. In this ruling, they have given states and the federal government a clear ability to solve our current crisis. The evidence base is growing with studies that indicate what laws can turn the tide: we know background checks on every firearm transaction reduce homicides in states that have this in place; temporary transfer laws that temporarily remove access for those who are in crisis and pose a threat reduce suicides by as much as 13% and have been used to prevent mass shootings; and requiring the responsible, secure storage of firearms – when paired with child access prevention laws – can reduce youth firearm deaths.

Looking at 29 high income countries in 2015, more than 9 in 10 children (ages 0‑14) who died from firearm‑related injuries lived in the United States. We have a firearm death rate that’s 11.4 times higher than that of these other 28 nations. We do not have a monopoly on mental illness – as some attribute our firearm crisis to – nor are we a much more violent nation by other indicators such as burglary and theft. Our children do not have to live with regular active shooter drills. We do not have to live in fear of firearm violence at parades, in grocery stores, or at movie theaters.

As citizens, we must vote for those who are willing to stoically and responsibly tackle this crisis. As lawmakers, we must do the hard work of finding compromise that honors the Constitution but also keeps our communities and children safe. As gunowners, we must recognize the awesome right and responsibility of the Second Amendment, get proper training, and always securely store our firearms. As parents, we must normalize conversations about firearm safety with our children, and with other parents.

This moment calls for action. The Supreme Court has made clear we have the ability to protect our communities from those who pose a threat to themselves or others. The Surgeon General has laid out a clear case of why we must act. We have the tools to address this public health crisis – now we must do the hard work of putting them to use.
