Publish your thesis

Your thesis will be published in the WorldCat Discovery. What requirements must your thesis meet?

Theses are published in WorldCat Discovery  by the university library . There are procedures for students per School for publishing a digital version of the thesis to the library database. 

It is important that the thesis meets the following requirements in order for it to be entered into the database:

• The thesis has a cover page, title page and a table of contents
• title (and possible subtitle)
• full initials/first name, surname and (ANR) student's registration number
• date and year of graduation
• name of graduation department
• supervisor(s) full initials and surname
• faculty name
• The pages must be numbered
• The thesis must be one single pdf-file

NB. Don't put any personal information (address, Tel.nr) on your thesis pages.

Delivery in pdf format

The digital version of your thesis needs to be sent in pdf format. To this purpose you can use the program PDF995 that is available as standard software on the student desktop (in the Utilities menu). The digital version of the thesis should consist of one single pdf file.

Check special characters and symbols

Check whether all pages of your thesis can be read in the program Adobe Acrobat. Sometimes special or exceptional letter types, symbols or figures may be a problem.

Please note that your thesis will be made publicly available in the Thesis database via the library (i.e. your thesis will be found by Google). If for some reason your thesis cannot be made publicly available, please indicate this when you send it to the service desk.

In case of problems with the use of PDF995 contact the Library Support .

Additional information per school

Students of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology submit a pdf-file of their thesis via the e-mail address [email protected] . The secretariat will then forward the thesis to the library.

Students of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management may hand in their thesis by delivering a PDF file to the secretariat of their department. See also the general guidelines.

Students of the Tilburg School of Humanities hand in a digital version of their thesis at the Service desk Education, Research and Communication (D 353). This can be done on CD-r/rw, usb-stick or via the e-mail address [email protected] . The Service desk will redirect the thesis to the library.

Students from the Tilburg Law School should register in the electronic thesis file. One of the functions of this electronic system consists of establishing the thesis' final version. This end version should also be handed in to the thesis supervisor on paper. As soon as the electronic end version has been set down in the thesis file, it is automatically sent to the library for insertion in the thesis database. There is no need to send a paper copy to the library.

Students of the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences submit the pdf-file of their thesis, together with the printed version, to the secretariat of their department. There they will check whether the pdf-file has been delivered correctly. If this is the case, the secretariat ensures that the thesis is included in the library's thesis file, and thus becomes publicly accessible.

If the thesis contains (company) sensitive information and for that reason may not be made public, the student clearly indicates this to the secretariat, supported by a letter from the thesis supervisor.

ETDs: Virginia Tech Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Virginia Tech has been a world leader in electronic theses and dissertation initiatives for more than 20 years. On January 1, 1997, Virginia Tech was the first university to require electronic submission of theses and dissertations (ETDs). Ever since then, Virginia Tech graduate students have been able to prepare, submit, review, and publish their theses and dissertations online and to append digital media such as images, data, audio, and video.

University Libraries staff are currently digitizing thousands of pre-1997 theses and dissertations and loading them into VTechWorks. Most of these theses and dissertations are fully available to the public, but we will, in general, honor requests by the item's author to restrict access to Virginia Tech only. See our process for Requesting that Material be Amended or Removed .

Materials that are restricted to Virginia Tech only may be requested via your own university or public library's Interlibrary Loan program or through the VTechWorks request form that appears when you try to access the item. You might also be able to obtain a copy of the work through ProQuest's database of theses and dissertations. If you are on a Virginia Tech campus but are unable to find the pre-1997 thesis or dissertation you are seeking in VTechWorks, you may also be able to order a physical copy from library storage. WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

Elektrostal , city, Moscow oblast (province), western Russia . It lies 36 miles (58 km) east of Moscow city. The name, meaning “electric steel,” derives from the high-quality-steel industry established there soon after the October Revolution in 1917. During World War II , parts of the heavy-machine-building industry were relocated there from Ukraine, and Elektrostal is now a centre for the production of metallurgical equipment. Pop. (2006 est.) 146,189.

Om opname in de Scriptie-database mogelijk te maken is het belangrijk dat de scriptie voldoet aan de volgende eisen:

• volledige voorletters/voornaam, achternaam en ANR van de student
• datum en jaartal van afstuderen
• naam van het departement van afstuderen
• volledig voorletters en achternaam van de begeleider(s)
• naam van de faculteit
• De bladzijden zijn genummerd
• De scriptie bestaat uit één pdf-bestand

NB - geen persoonlijke gegevens zoals adres en telefoon vermelden.

Aanleveren in pdf-formaat

De digitale versie van je scriptie moet aangeleverd worden in pdf-formaat. De digitale versie van de scriptie moet bestaan uit één enkel pdf-bestand.

Controleren van speciale tekens en symbolen

Controleer of alle pagina's van je scriptie in het programma Adobe Acrobat leesbaar zijn. Soms kunnen speciale of bijzondere lettertypes, symbolen of figuren een probleem zijn.

Scriptie openbaar

Let wel: je scriptie wordt online full text openbaar toegankelijk via de bibliotheek (en is bijvoorbeeld vindbaar via Google). Als je scriptie (bedrijfs)gevoelige informatie bevat en om die reden niet openbaar gemaakt mag worden, geef dat dan duidelijk aan bij het inleveren van je scriptie.

Aanvullende informatie per faculteit

Studenten van de Tilburg School of Catholic Theology leveren een pdf-bestand van hun scriptie in via het e-mailadres [email protected] . Het secretariaat stuurt de scriptie vervolgens door naar de bibliotheek.

Studenten van de Tilburg School  of Economics and Management (TiSEM) leveren het pdf-bestand van hun scriptie, samen met de gedrukte versie in bij het secretariaat van hun departement. Daar wordt bekeken of het pdf-bestand correct is aangeleverd.

Studenten van de Faculteit Geesteswetenschappen leveren een digitaal exemplaar van hun scriptie in bij de Servicebalie. Dit via het e-mailadres  [email protected]. De Servicebalie stuurt de scriptie vervolgens door naar de bibliotheek.

Studenten van de Tilburg Law School dienen zich aan te melden bij het elektronische scriptiedossier. Een van de functies van dit elektronische systeem bestaat uit het vastleggen van de definitieve versie van de scriptie. Deze eindversie dient ook op papier bij de scriptiebegeleider te worden ingediend. Zodra de elektronische eindversie is vastgelegd in het scriptiedossier, wordt deze automatisch naar de bibliotheek verstuurd om in het scriptiebestand ingevoerd te worden. Aan de bibliotheek hoeft geen papieren exemplaar aangeleverd te worden.

Studenten van de Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences leveren het pdf-bestand van hun scriptie, samen met de gedrukte versie in bij het secretariaat van hun departement.
