We refer to such a thing as a pastime, something essential to one's happiness. No one in this world is exempt from having a passion; it might be anything from travelling to reading literature.

Hobby Types

We can demonstrate interest in and grow many other kinds of hobbies, including singing, dancing, playing sports, watching TV, talking, drawing, collecting antiques, bird watching, writing, photography, eating, playing, and engaging in any other activity we can think of. Our many interests can be turned into a source of income and a means of support, and we can create a highly lucrative career out of them. While a hobby is something we do in our free time, it has the potential to grow into much more.

My Favourite Hobby

My hobby is reading, whether it be volumes of short stories, newspapers, magazines, or novels. I simply adore reading. In fact, I believe that my personal collection of books is the greatest treasure at my home.

How It Started

We were required to read the newspaper every day in class and present three national, three international, and three sports stories. For us, this resembled a routine exercise. I became interested in reading newspapers because of this. We all developed a habit of reading the daily newspaper as we grew older, and eventually this habit turned into a full-time activity. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of reading the Harry Potter series—which is still the best—the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and other books by deserving Indian and international authors.

Books : Our Companion

Living without friends is challenging in every way. Like a good companion, great books enrich our brains with insightful ideas and knowledge. When we are around literature, we cannot feel lonely. While reading a good book, we can pick up a lot of useful knowledge. Books written by well-known, accomplished authors help us develop personally and also teach us the best practices for serving the public.

Books are our closest friends because they inspire us to achieve extraordinary things in daily life and overcome our setbacks. Books will always be there for you through difficult times. Books inspire us to dream big.

Benefits of Hobby

In addition to being enjoyable, hobbies can fully revitalise a person and aid in maintaining strength, vitality, and happiness. Spending time doing the activities we enjoy can delay ageing and elicit favourable emotions that aid in the fight against particular diseases. You become happier and more substantial as a person when you have a pastime. My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.

My favourite hobby is watching TV. Whenever I have free time, I love watching Television. It never obstructs my studies. Hobbies help us to expand our knowledge, and it teaches us several things. First, I like to finish all my school homework and then start watching TV. This lightens my mood and sparks up the excitement inside me, as it increases my curiosity about the world. Watching different useful stuff on TV enhances my knowledge horizons and gives me lots of joy.

Benefit of My Hobby

It is a good habit because watching TV escorts a lot of knowledge in various fields. There are several channels on TV, which represent worldwide affairs. I watch the news and I like channels, such as animal planet, discovery channel or another informative channel. These channels increase my curiosity and encourage me to learn about different aspects of life.

I interestingly watch a cartoon network that provides me with creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts. Some of my favourite comics are Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and many more. Many art-themed cartoons, like The Pink Panther and SpongeBob, inspire me to draw them. Primarily, the artworks of comics attract me and inspire me to decorate my scrapbooks with their figures.

Parents Find Hobbies Useful

My parents praise my hobby, and they are also happy when they see me watching national and international news and several events on the TV. Moreover, they feel proud when they listen to the news update from me.

Now, I study in class with two and eight years old girls. Creating jokes, sitting idle and spending time roaming around is unproductive, according to my parents. My parents made sure that I developed my hobbies from childhood. Therefore, they encouraged me to create some good habits.

Watching TV in a proper way gives you so many important roles. It helps us to make something creative. It provides us with knowledge about different places, their cultures, climatic conditions and especially their history. Furthermore, it widens our imagination by showing imaginary characters from the marvellous Disney World and Jungle Book.

Importance of Hobby

Getting the latest updates and gaining knowledge about today’s incident is so important. It provides us with a lot of benefits, which help us in developing our knowledge and thoughts. It also enhances our minds of thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Hobbies are all about interest and can only be done in our leisure time. These activities help us in keeping our mind and body in a relaxed and refreshed state.

Moreover, hobbies also increase our productivity and improve our overall health. It protects us from the risk of dementia and also protects us from sadness in our life. It also helps in our overall development and ignites our hidden talents and passions. So it is essential to have hobbies in our lives.

Several Aspects of Watching TV as an Hobby

Watching TV is not only about fun and joy; it also introduces us to new characters and stories to analyse. Every show comes with a new set of characters and stories that tickles our brains. As a hobby, you can compare these different storylines and their characters with one another.

There are different types of programs on TV that are so crucial to enhancing our awareness about worldwide matters. TV channels also telecast different types of educational programs to improve our knowledge of history, science, economics, math, culture, and geography etc. In such programs, you get to analyse the different acting styles, writing and overall good and bad behaviours of various communities, their thoughts and cultures.

Different Genres on TV

Each TV show has different types of content or genres. These TV genres are sci-fi, dramas, adventurous shows, action, animations and reality shows. While Watching TV, it is not necessary to stick to any one genre and thus, you get to explore various other genres.

And this is the most valuable part of my hobby. Television brings together numerous elements of imagination and ideas from different genres and allows me to explore them.

Some Other Hobbies

You can have more than one hobby, as they are not restricted to any particular limit. All the things that you have an interest in can be regarded as a hobby. A person can have multiple areas of interest and have more than one activity as a hobby.

I, too, have more than one hobby. Other than watching TV, I like to listen to music. This helps me keep myself calm after doing lots of work and gives my ears and heart a soothing effect.

Besides these, I also have hobbies, such as reading comic books, painting, writing narrative stories, and maintaining a scrapbook. These activities make me happy and enhance my hidden qualities. Writing and reading boost my imagination. Along with these activities, I participate in gardening in my leisure time because I love to plant new and colourful flowers.

Moreover, I like dancing and singing. These are the activities I often do whenever I find time after completing my studies and homework. I do participate in singing and dancing competitions as well because I like to sing and dance. My teachers and parents always appreciate and encourage me to pursue my hobbies.

Every human being on this Earth is unique. Not only in terms of appearance but also for inherent characteristics. All the people work, think, talk, interpret, act, etc. , in countless ways. These are all the things which express me. One needs to have a good command of themselves before going to write something about their life. If you are a normal player hopeful of getting selected in India Cricket Team one day, then the traditional procedure for you is to begin from playing in your school or club level cricket team. Not only that, you must also make a mark by playing in local tournaments and get noticed. If you play good enough, you will be selected for the under 13 cricket team of your district. Remember this all has to happen during your early teens.

After getting selected in District under 13 team, you need to maintain your form and get selected for under 13 state team from then on moving up to under 16 and then under 19. The Indian under 19 cricket team is selected out of the state under 19 teams that play against each other.

There are many factors that come into play here including your luck, skills and competitors.

The Non-Traditional Way

If for some reason you cannot get into the cricket teams by the traditional ways as described above, there is still hope, but I must remind you that the nontraditional way is very difficult and no one, not that I can remember, had been selected this way.

You begin with enrolling in a good cricketing club in your city or town and practice for unusually longer hours. In fact, practice is what you must be doing 24/7, and money also should not be a problem for you. All you should be caring about is your fitness and game.

Thereby, by performing well in club cricket, you should get noticed by the upper-division teams. If you are lucky enough you will be asked by the team to join them. From there on it all depends on you and by performing extraordinarily you can play for state team or the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Cricket is one of the most popular sports of the world and offers an extraordinary career option. However, the key to become a successful cricketer is to practice hard and also to start early in life. If your are passionate about cricket and in your early teens the chances of your getting selected in the under 19 India Cricket Team one day are brighter.

Describe what the hobby is

And then say why you like it

So, for example, someone who likes football might say something like this:

I like to play football at the weekend with my friends. We have a small club and we get together and play a game of football. Nothing serious just for fun, really.

But we like it because it is good fun and we can all have a laugh together plus it is good exercise and gets us out of the hous

In the first sentence, the speaker says what the interest is, when he does it and who with. He then goes on further to explain that he and his friends are members of a small local football club.

He says that is it Nothing serious just for fun really — this means that no one takes the football club very seriously. They are not trying to be professional football players. They just want to have some fun.

He then goes on to explain why they do it. He repeats that it is fun and they can all have a laugh together — this is another way to say that it is good fun. Then he mentions that playing football is good exercise — another reason why he plays football.

And lastly he says it gets us out of the house — this means that it is good to leave the house. Staying indoors all day is considered an unhealthy thing to do.

Let’s look at another example.

I am an avid reader and every weekend you can find me with my nose in a book. There is nothing I like better than curling up with a good book in my favourite armchair and losing myself in whatever world the book is set in.

I love reading because I can enter other worlds and meet all these amazing characters. I love seeing all of the scenes play out in my imagination.

This speaker talks about her deep interest in reading.

She says she is an avid reader — this means she loves reading and has a very strong desire for reading.

She goes on to say that every weekend you can find me with my nose in a book — this means that if we were to find her we could see her reading. She also uses the phrase curling up with a good book in my favourite armchair , to describe in more detail her love for reading. She likes to sit in an armchair curled up in a ball so that she is comfortable.

The speaker mentions the world the book is set in because the setting in the book is not like the real world.

She then explains why she likes reading and talks about other worlds , amazing characters and seeing all the scenes play out in her imagination .

This is what you need to do when talking about your hobby or interest.

You need to go into deeper detail of what the interest is and where and when you do this hobby. And are you alone or with friends?

Then talk about why you like it. Try to think of three reasons why you like this special hobby of yours.

Like Doing vs Like To Do

We often use these two phrases when talking about our interests and hobbies. Or to describe things we like to do or things we like doing.

Like + gerund – I like swimming

Like + infinitive – I like to swim

Loosely speaking, you can use either of these expressions. Each one has the same meaning.

How to Talk at Length About Your Hobbies

If you are asked about your hobbies in the IELTS test for Part Two, then you will have to talk about your hobby or interest at length. The same if you are asked this question in an interview for college or a job interview.

You need to think about how to talk about the things you like to do and how to speak for a long time. This is where all the English question words can help you.

Think about the question words what , where , when , why , who and how .

What – I like to paint

Where – in my shed in the garden

When – at the weekend and whenever I have spare time

Why – I just lose myself in the moment, it is very relaxing and time just flies by

Who – by myself it is a very solitary hobby

How often – whenever I can!

And then you can put all of this together and it might look like this:

I like to paint in my free time. I can’t paint in the house because my parents say it is too messy, all the paint and oil, so I use the shed in our garden. I can sit in there and no one disturbs me.

I usually paint at the weekend and after school, I like to paint whenever I have some spare time.

I like painting because I can just lose myself in it, I just get lost in the moment and forget time completely. It is very relaxing and time just flies by very quickly.

I like to spend time on my own and paint. I like to be able to think and be quiet. I like to be on my own and think.

I try to paint whenever I can but I have exams coming up so I don’t have as much free time any more. But after my exams, I will probably get back into it.

Now you try.

Use all the question words and ask yourself questions about your hobby or interest. Interview yourself about your hobby and when you have all the answers put them together into one long talk.

Then recite it out to yourself.

Describe Feelings About the Hobby

First of all, let’s look at some words we can use to describe how we feel about something in English.

I think you probably know how to use these words to describe general emotional states you might have on different days, but you can also use them when talking about your interests.

We played a game of cricket against another local team but we lost terribly. I was kind of angry even though it’s only a game. I just felt frustrated because we had practiced for so long.

Our band played live for the first time last week. We were all really nervous, but it went pretty well. I think we were all surprised by how much the crowd liked us.

I really believe that going to the gym can help you live a long and healthy life. As we get older we need to have more strength to do daily things in our life.

As far as I’m concerned, doing carpentry is a very rewarding and satisfying hobby. I have made some really beautiful chairs and a bookcase for our home.

You could be asked to talk about your hobbies or interests in Part Two of the IELTS speaking test. Or in an interview for college or a job interview.

In this situation, you will need to talk at length about what you like to do in your free time.

TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 02, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COMPUTEX -- NVIDIA today announced that the world’s 28 million developers can now download NVIDIA NIM ™ — inference microservices that provide models as optimized containers — to deploy on clouds, data centers or workstations, giving them the ability to easily build generative AI applications for copilots, chatbots and more, in minutes rather than weeks.

These new generative AI applications are becoming increasingly complex and often utilize multiple models with different capabilities for generating text, images, video, speech and more. NVIDIA NIM dramatically increases developer productivity by providing a simple, standardized way to add generative AI to their applications.

NIM also enables enterprises to maximize their infrastructure investments. For example, running Meta Llama 3-8B in a NIM produces up to 3x more generative AI tokens on accelerated infrastructure than without NIM. This lets enterprises boost efficiency and use the same amount of compute infrastructure to generate more responses.

Nearly 200 technology partners — including Cadence, Cloudera , Cohesity , DataStax , NetApp , Scale AI and Synopsys — are integrating NIM into their platforms to speed generative AI deployments for domain-specific applications, such as copilots, code assistants and digital human avatars. Hugging Face is now offering NIM — starting with Meta Llama 3 .

Enterprises can deploy AI applications in production with NIM through the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform. Starting next month, members of the NVIDIA Developer Program can access NIM for free for research, development and testing on their preferred infrastructure.

40+ NIM Microservices Power Gen AI Models Across Modalities NIM containers are pre-built to speed model deployment for GPU-accelerated inference and can include NVIDIA CUDA ® software, NVIDIA Triton Inference Server ™ and NVIDIA TensorRT™-LLM software.

Over 40 NVIDIA and community models are available to experience as NIM endpoints on ai.nvidia.com , including Databricks DBRX , Google’s open model Gemma, Meta Llama 3, Microsoft Phi-3, Mistral Large, Mixtral 8x22B and Snowflake Arctic.

In my experience ABA is about skill building, not taking away a person’s unique interests. I want my child to learn about cars if they like cars, but not engage in severe tantrum behavior and/or dangerous self-injurious behavior. Guidance with acquiring language is helpful too. ABA can be implemented with parents/caregivers aiding and involved with the goal setting. Mary has multiple degrees, and understands the challenges that families may experience. She invites a variety of guests on the podcast who provide well-informed perspectives. Machine learning is a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) that uses algorithms trained on data sets to create self-learning models that are capable of predicting outcomes and classifying information without human intervention. Machine learning is used today for a wide range of commercial purposes, including suggesting products to consumers based on their past purchases, predicting stock market fluctuations, and translating text from one language to another.

In common usage, the terms “machine learning” and “artificial intelligence” are often used interchangeably with one another due to the prevalence of machine learning for AI purposes in the world today. But, the two terms are meaningfully distinct. While AI refers to the general attempt to create machines capable of human-like cognitive abilities, machine learning specifically refers to the use of algorithms and data sets to do so.

Machine learning is typically the most mainstream type of AI technology in use around the world today. Some of the most common examples of machine learning that you may have interacted with in your day-to-day life include:

Recommendation engines that suggest products, songs, or television shows to you, such as those found on Amazon, Spotify, or Netflix.

How does machine learning work?

Machine learning is both simple and complex.

At its core, the method simply uses algorithms – essentially lists of rules – adjusted and refined using past data sets to make predictions and categorizations when confronted with new data. For example, a machine learning algorithm may be “trained” on a data set consisting of thousands of images of flowers that are labeled with each of their different flower types so that it can then correctly identify a flower in a new photograph based on the differentiating characteristics it learned from other pictures.

To ensure such algorithms work effectively, however, they must typically be refined many times until they accumulate a comprehensive list of instructions that allow them to function correctly. Algorithms that have been trained sufficiently eventually become “ machine learning models ,” which are essentially algorithms that have been trained to perform specific tasks like sorting images, predicting housing prices, or making chess moves. In some cases, algorithms are layered on top of each other to create complex networks that allow them to do increasingly complex, nuanced tasks like generating text and powering chatbots via a method known as “ deep learning .”

As a result, although the general principles underlying machine learning are relatively straightforward, the models that are produced at the end of the process can be very elaborate and complex.

Machine learning vs. deep learning

As you’re exploring machine learning, you’ll likely come across the term “deep learning.” Although the two terms are interrelated, they're also distinct from one another.

Machine learning refers to the general use of algorithms and data to create autonomous or semi-autonomous machines. Deep learning , meanwhile, is a subset of machine learning that layers algorithms into “neural networks” that somewhat resemble the human brain so that machines can perform increasingly complex tasks.

Types of machine learning

Several different types of machine learning power the many different digital goods and services we use every day. While each of these different types attempts to accomplish similar goals – to create machines and applications that can act without human oversight – the precise methods they use differ somewhat.

To help you get a better idea of how these types differ from one another, here’s an overview of the four different types of machine learning primarily in use today.

1. Supervised machine learning

In supervised machine learning, algorithms are trained on labeled data sets that include tags describing each piece of data. In other words, the algorithms are fed data that includes an “answer key” describing how the data should be interpreted. For example, an algorithm may be fed images of flowers that include tags for each flower type so that it will be able to identify the flower better again when fed a new photograph.

Supervised machine learning is often used to create machine learning models used for prediction and classification purposes.

2. Unsupervised machine learning

Unsupervised machine learning uses unlabeled data sets to train algorithms. In this process, the algorithm is fed data that doesn't include tags, which requires it to uncover patterns on its own without any outside guidance. For instance, an algorithm may be fed a large amount of unlabeled user data culled from a social media site in order to identify behavioral trends on the platform.

Unsupervised machine learning is often used by researchers and data scientists to identify patterns within large, unlabeled data sets quickly and efficiently.

3. Semi-supervised machine learning

Semi-supervised machine learning uses both unlabeled and labeled data sets to train algorithms. Generally, during semi-supervised machine learning, algorithms are first fed a small amount of labeled data to help direct their development and then fed much larger quantities of unlabeled data to complete the model. For example, an algorithm may be fed a smaller quantity of labeled speech data and then trained on a much larger set of unlabeled speech data in order to create a machine learning model capable of speech recognition.

Semi-supervised machine learning is often employed to train algorithms for classification and prediction purposes in the event that large volumes of labeled data is unavailable.

4. Reinforcement learning

Reinforcement learning uses trial and error to train algorithms and create models. During the training process, algorithms operate in specific environments and then are provided with feedback following each outcome. Much like how a child learns, the algorithm slowly begins to acquire an understanding of its environment and begins to optimize actions to achieve particular outcomes. For instance, an algorithm may be optimized by playing successive games of chess, which allows it to learn from its past successes and failures playing each game.

Reinforcement learning is often used to create algorithms that must effectively make sequences of decisions or actions to achieve their aims, such as playing a game or summarizing an entire text.

Machine learning benefits and risks

Machine learning is already transforming much of our world for the better. Today, the method is used to construct models capable of identifying cancer growths in medical scans, detecting fraudulent transactions, and even helping people learn languages. But, as with any new society-transforming technology, there are also potential dangers to know about.

At a glance, here are some of the major benefits and potential drawbacks of machine learning:


AI and machine learning may help businesses to automate some of its jobs, causing overall operational costs to decrease.	as some jobs are automated, workers in the impacted field will likely face layoffs that could force them to switch to a new career or risk long-term unemployment.
Machine learning models are able to perform certain narrow tasks with extreme efficiency and accuracy, ensuring that some tasks are completed to a high degree in a timely manner.	Models that are tasked with doing a very narrow task may also miss many of the “human” aspects of the job that are important to it but potentially overlooked by developers.
Machine learning has the potential to quickly identify trends and patterns in large amounts of data that would be time consuming for humans. These insights can equip businesses, researchers, and society as a whole with new knowledge that has the potential to help them achieve their overall goals.	Just like the humans that create them, machine learning models can exhibit bias due to the occasionally skewed data sets that they’re trained on.

A hobby is an activity that is done regularly mostly in the free time and it is done for enjoyment. We all have some hobbies like singing, dancing, cooking, listening to music, etc.

My hobby is dancing. If you are bored with your routine in life, you should start learning some dance moves. The best thing about dance is that it has various forms such as classical, Bollywood, bhangra, Kathak, Kuchipudi, etc. You can choose the style you like. I personally like bhangra because of the music beats and dance steps.

Dancing as a hobby is packed with a lot of health benefits. It keeps you physically and mentally active. When you dance, your body releases endorphins which are also known as happy hormones as they are responsible for your feeling of happiness. Hence, it helps in improving stress levels.

It is a good activity for people with cardiovascular diseases. Such people can dance and improve their heart health. It also opens career opportunities for people. Many people aspire to be a choreographer today.

By mastering dance moves you gain a lot of confidence and self-esteem. You also get an opportunity to interact with people from diverse cultures as this improves communication skills.

In the end, I would like to say that even if you don’t have dance as your hobby, do try some dance moves. You will be a happier person.
