Free Year 2 Maths Worksheets And Homework: Printable, Downloadable Or Just View Online

Sophie Bessemer

Here you can find all our free Year 2 maths worksheets and Year 2 maths resources, many of which are suitable for homework and home learning .

All our KS1 and KS2 maths worksheets are printable and most are in pdf format, but they can also be viewed online too. If you’re looking for other slides-based teaching resources and lesson plans, we recommend you look at our range of White Rose maths lessons.

The hope is that these pdf Year 2 maths worksheets and free resources can be used with minimal support from parents as part of a 6 or 7 year old’s Year 2 maths homework routine and by teachers as part of a planned lesson framework.

For parents working with their children at home we would recommend you focus on practising and improving pupils’ core numeracy skills using the numbers worksheets as these generally require less input than topics like geometry – 2d shapes and 3d shapes. Place value and number after all are the building blocks of Key Stage 1 and later Key Stage 2 maths.

We have also included some telling the time worksheets; these will require support from a teacher or parent but the method used is truly revolutionary.

National curriculum guidance is given where relevant and each Year 2 worksheet includes answer sheets.

If you’re a parent then our home learning hub is full of home learning packs , workbooks, tips and further teaching ideas for Year 2 Maths at home and maths homework .

If you’re a teacher or school leader who is interested in improving maths attainment in your school or classroom, then Third Space Learning is here to support you with our online tutoring programme of maths interventions , together with maths resources and CPD.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on place value: Worked Examples

Understanding place value is essential for all children of any age. In Year 2, children will need to know the value of digits in a two digit number as well as comparing numbers and continuing sequences. This worksheet shows children common errors that are made in the place value topic. Children then become ‘the teacher’ and check the answers and explain any errors they find.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on addition and subtraction: Worked Examples

In Year 2, children will focus on adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. It is important that children know addition and subtraction facts they were taught in Year 1, for example number bonds . This worksheet focuses on a range of addition and subtraction problems that have been incorrectly solved. Children will need to check and correct questions such as subtracting using a bar model, using known facts and missing number problems.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on multiplication and division: Independent Recap

Children will start to focus on more formal methods of multiplication and division when in Year 2, including understanding patterns in the 2s, 5s and 10s times tables . These worksheets allow children to work independently on the ten times tables, odd and even numbers, grouping and sharing through a range of question types (word problems, fluency questions and so on).

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on multiplication and division: Worked Examples

There are many misconceptions that can form when first looking at multiplication and division. This worksheet focuses on addressing common misconceptions or errors in multiplication and division. The worksheet covers understanding what equal groups are, the relationship between repeated addition and multiplication as well as finding missing numbers in given calculations.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on times tables: Ultimate Times Tables

In Year 2, children will start to learn their times tables after learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s in Year 1. These games are a fun way of learning times table facts, including the related inverse division calculations.

Download Year 2 times tables worksheets: Ultimate Times Tables

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on fractions: Independent Recap

There is a lot of new vocabulary introduced in fractions in Year 2 (including the use of actual fractions). These worksheets allow children to work independently through the new vocabulary and concepts introduced, so would be useful for homework or home learning tasks. The worksheets work through unit fractions and non-unit fractions, finding a half and finding a quarter. For each worksheet, there is at least one question that encourages children to explain their answers and develop their reasoning skills.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets on fractions: Worked Examples

Many children struggle with the concept of fractions. At a young age, children can develop a range of misconceptions that could under them in future years. This worksheet aims to identify common misconceptions and errors children make in the Year 2 fractions topic (such as a fraction being equal parts) and encourage them to discuss them.

Year 2 Maths Worksheets for improving mental maths skills, arithmetic and fluency: Fluent in Five

We recommend every primary school child starts their day with Fluent in Five. It’s 5-10 minutes of daily arithmetic questions and is available for every primary school year group. In Year 2 children have 3 questions per day to answer. They are given prompts of concrete or pictorial resources (such as counters or number lines) they could use to help them solve the question presented to them. You’d be amazed at how quickly young people will build their number confidence with this resource.

Year 2 Maths worksheets for telling the time

For some reason learning to tell the time proves a challenge for most children, regardless of their prior attainment in maths. If you have a child who’s struggling with telling the time these worksheets provide a step by step process to help them master it. The key is to start with a number line.

Year 2 maths games worksheets and activities

Getting children fully engaged can be a struggle at times, especially towards the end of the summer term. We have over 20 great ideas for KS1 maths games which bring out the fun side of problem solving and get children excited about maths. Each gameplay outline includes a ‘What You Will Need’ section, so that you can be fully prepared to bring out Fraction Snap or Subtraction Bowling during your next lesson.

Australian Curriculum Mathematics V9 : AC9M2M01

Numeracy Progression : Understanding units of measurement: P3

Students extend their understanding of uniform informal units  to measure and compare lengths, mass and capacities.

Provide opportunities for students to:

  • select the appropriate size of an informal unit to measure and compare attributes
  • choose and use appropriate uniform informal units to measure length without gaps or overlaps (e.g. use the same sized paper clips to measure the length of a book)
  • use multiple uniform informal units to measure the mass of objects (e.g. a balance scale and a number of same-sized marbles to compare mass)
  • use multiple uniform informal units to measure the capacity of objects (e.g. a number of cups of water or cups of sand to measure capacity.

Use a variety of teaching strategies to facilitate learning.

  • Provide access to a range of physical materials to use as uniform informal units (e.g. Multilink cubes, marbles, paperclips, matchsticks and popsticks) and provide hands-on opportunities to measure and compare items.
  • Encourage visualising as a strategy for estimating length and capacity using uniform informal units. Probe student thinking to draw out mathematical reasoning when estimating and making measurements.
  • Provide explicit explanations to support their learning, such as how to use tiling (using many copies of a unit to measure without gaps or overlaps) and iteration (using one copy of an informal unit to measure by repeatedly moving it along) to measure the length or area of a shape.

Teaching and learning summary:

  • Estimate, compare and measure lengths using informal units.
  • Estimate, compare and measure capacities using informal units.
  • Estimate, compare and measure mass using informal units.
  • Compare length, mass and capacities of objects using informal units and everyday language.
  • Apply measurement skills and knowledge to familiar and unfamiliar problems.
  • Look for opportunities to explicitly teach the key ideas of measuring.

mass homework year 2

  • choose appropriate uniform informal units to measure and compare length, mass or capacity
  • measure and describe length, mass or capacity of two or more objects in order to then make comparisons.

Some students may:

  • inaccurately measure by having gaps or overlapping units when tiling or by not tracking carefully when iterating. Provide feedback and discuss the need for accuracy.
  • not yet understand that using smaller units will produce a larger total measure than using larger units, and that using larger units will produce a smaller total measure than using smaller units. Provide opportunities to use small and large units and make explicit the impact of using each on the overall measurement.
  • not yet understand that capacity is the property of a container and describes how much a container can hold. When measuring capacity, ask how much the container holds. Discuss the appropriate types of informal units that could be used such as cups of sand or water, or cubes for a rectangular object.

The Learning from home activities are designed to be used flexibly by teachers, parents and carers, as well as the students themselves. They can be used in a number of ways including to consolidate and extend learning done at school or for home schooling.

Learning intention

  • We are learning how to measure length using informal units.

Why are we learning about this?

  • We often need to measure things to work out which is longer.
  • Find three things to measure.
  • Measure each item using the unit you chose.
  • Order the items shortest to longest.
  • Draw your ideas to show someone else.
  • Compare two of the items. How much longer is one than the other?
  • How would you measure something that is curved?

Success criteria

  • use an informal unit to measure something
  • work out how much longer an object is compared to another
  • order objects by length.

3 people killed, 2 children critically hurt in Chicago South Side mass shooting

By Jeramie Bizzle , Sara Machi , Shardaa Gray , Asal Rezaei

Updated on: July 5, 2024 / 6:58 PM CDT / CBS Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — Two women and a child were killed, and two other children were critically hurt after a mass shooting in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood Thursday morning, according to Chicago police.

Deputy Chief Don Jerome said around 6:15 a.m., officers responded to an alert of shots fired in the 7100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue, where they found five people shot.

Two cars pulled into the area. Several people got out and fired shots from a rifle and handgun at the home.

The shooters fled the scene in an unknown direction, and no one is in custody.

The victims were two women, identified by the family as Capri Edwards, 24, Nakeeshia Strong, 45, and a 7-year-old boy who died. Two other boys, ages 5 and 8, were injured. They all had gunshot wounds and were given first aid by the officers.

woodlawn-mass-shooting-victims.png

Strong died at the scene. Edwards was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she died.

All three children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, initially reported in critical condition. Later on Thursday, Chicago police said one of the 8-year-old boys had died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office had not identified the 8-year-old boy who died as of Thursday night.

"I'm just numb"

Markita Scott, Edwards' mother, told CBS News Chicago that her daughter died trying to save her children. Scott said Edwards was not only her daughter but also her best friend.

"She shielded her babies so that he wouldn't get hit," Scott said. "So she really died to save her children."

Scott described Strong as a mother, grandmother, aunt, and a very loving person.

"I'm just numb," Scott said. "I just want somebody to come forward with some kind of information so [there's] justice for my daughter."

Police said they were investigating into the possibility that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute.

One neighbor said he heard the shots and ran to his window.

"Thought it was fireworks, it wasn't fireworks. Two people jumping off the porch they had masks on so I couldn't even see no face they took off and they went right. They went straight down. I go to run back in the house to get away from that," he said.

Ald. Desmon Yancy (5th) called for an end to the violence and says he prays it doesn't happen again.

"This senseless violence has to stop. Personal conflict and guns its become a bad combination. You know, the summer is just getting started. I don't want to stand in front of another group of microphones and have another discussion about the pain that's causing our communities," Yancy said.

Area detectives are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip to CPDTip.com .

California man charged in 'random' July 4th stabbing attack that left 2 dead, 3 injured

A man suspected in a brutal Fourth of July stabbing attack in Southern California that killed two people and injured three others was charged with murder on Tuesday.

Logan Christopher Kelley, 26, of Redondo Beach, California, was charged with two counts of felony murder, three felony counts of attempted murder, o ne felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of battery on a police officer, according to a statement from the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

The attack occurred just after 11 p.m. in the town of Huntington Beach when Kelley allegedly approached a group of people who were watching fireworks and began stabbing people with a knife.

Orange County prosecutors identified the deceased at Eric Hodges, 42, who was stabbed in the heart, and William Collins, 47, who was stabbed in the lung and neck. Three other victims, two 35-year-old men, and a 68-year-old man were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Kelley was also charged with assaulting a 16-year-old who helped restrain him immediately after the attack.

Mass shooting: Philadelphia mass shooting leaves 8 people injured, 1 dead; no arrests made, police say

'Random attack': Suspect had no connection to stabbing victims

Kelley, who officials said had no prior relationship with any of the victims, had been drinking and taking hallucinogenic drugs before the stabbing.

“A day of celebrating America and all the freedoms we all enjoy turned into deadly chaos at the hands of a stranger,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement on Tuesday. “We as Americans should be able to enjoy spending time with our friends and families without worrying about being brutally stabbed in the street in a random attack.”

The murder charges against Kelley are considered “special circumstances” that make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

Thank you very much. I have just adapted it a little to add an estimation column and measuring the length of their hand. Great to do at home for maths in lockdown and easier than teaching in school with a whole class.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A 23-year-old Oakland man has been charged in connection with a mass shooting that broke out at a Juneteenth celebration in the San Francisco Bay Area last month.

Prosecutors charged JaJuan Kelly, 23, with four counts of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm for the shooting of four people at the Oakland event, the Alameda County district attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday.

Authorities are looking for multiple suspects, and District Attorney Pamela Price said she was “deeply relieved to announce that one of the individuals” has been charged.

Kelly was one of 14 people shot and wounded June 19 at an unsanctioned sideshow following a peaceful celebration attended by thousands. No one was killed, and those injured ranged from 20 to 30 years old. Police initially said 15 people had been shot, but later revised the figure.

Ernie Castillo, an attorney for Kelly, said Wednesday it could be a case of self-defense, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the day in 1865 enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, found out they had been freed — after the end of the Civil War, and two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth was designated a federal holiday in 2021 and has become more universally recognized beyond Black America.
