Personal Story: My Journey to Developing Self Confidence

I understand how challenging it can be to develop self-confidence. For many years, I struggled with low self-esteem and a lack of belief in myself. However, I eventually realised that the only person holding me back was myself. I made a conscious effort to work on my self-confidence, and I have seen a significant improvement in my life as a result.

One of the things that helped me the most was focusing on my strengths and accomplishments. Instead of dwelling on my weaknesses and failures, I made a list of things I was proud of and things I was good at. This helped me see that I had valuable skills and qualities to bring to the table.

Another technique that helped me to build self-confidence was to practice self-care. Taking care of my physical and mental health was crucial in helping me to feel good about myself. I also made a point of surrounding myself with positive, supportive people who encouraged me and helped me to see the best in myself.

Hence, morality and ethics are two important tools to sustain self-respect. For this reason, if a person with self-respect does anything wrong, he can not make eye contact with himself.

Moreover, it needs to be understood that there is a very thin line between self-respect and ego. Self-respect is all about our inner positive feelings. It does not mean developing an ego of being superior to others. If you fail to differentiate between the two, it will destroy your relationship with others.

Most importantly, a lack of self-respect can drive a person to indulge in bad activities. Plus, a person without self-respect loses his identity and purpose of living. No one likes or respects him. Then, life becomes boring. He feels just lost in his own negative thoughts.

1. Recognise your strengths- We give respect others for their achievements and extraordinary traits. We also possess some unique strengths. When we start recognising our strengths, we start feeling a sense of respect for ourselves.

2. Be kind to yourself- Kindness is a good virtue for all. But we forget to be kind toward ourselves. We do a lot of negative self-talk about ourselves. We must be very kind when we think about ourselves. It will help you accept yourself the way you are.

3. Celebrate small achievements – Generally, we ignore our small achievements in life which is not fair. Once we start celebrating our small achievements, we feel that we did something meaningful in life. This feeling puts on some weight on our self-respect.

4. Build a positive circle – Our company impacts us more than anything else so choosing your company is an important task which requires wisdom. Make friends who accept you and respect you the way you are. Once you get respect from others, your start giving more respect for yourself.

Good afternoon… 

I have just returned from Buckingham Palace… 

Where I accepted an invitation from His Majesty the King… 

To form the next government of this great nation. 

I want to thank the outgoing Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. 

His achievement as the first British Asian Prime Minister of our country… 

The extra effort that will have required…  

Should not be underestimated by anyone. 

We pay tribute to that today… 

And we also recognise the dedication and hard work he brought to his leadership.

But now our country has voted, decisively… 

For change.  

For national renewal. 

And a return of politics to public service.

When the gap between the sacrifices made by people… 

And the service they receive from politicians…

Grows this big. 

It leads to a weariness in the heart of a nation.  

A draining away of the hope, the spirit, the belief in a better future…

That we need to move forward, together. 

Now, this wound…

This lack of trust… 

Can only be healed by actions not words… 

I know that.  

But we can make a start today… 

With the simple acknowledgment… 

That public service is a privilege.  

And that your government should treat every single person in this country… 

With respect. 

If you voted for Labour yesterday… 

We will carry the responsibility of your trust, as we rebuild our country. 

But whether you voted Labour or not… 

In fact - especially if you did not… 

I say to you, directly…

My government will serve you. 

Politics can be a force for good - we will show that. 

And that is how we will govern. 

Country first, party second. 

Yet, if I’m honest… 

Service is merely a pre-condition for hope. 

And it is surely clear to everyone… 

That our country needs a bigger reset…  

A rediscovery of who we are. 

Because no matter how fierce the storms of history… 

One of the great strengths of this nation…

Has always been our ability to navigate a way through to calmer waters. 

And yet this depends upon politicians… 

Particularly those who stand for stability and moderation - as I do… 

Recognising when we must change course. 

For too long now… 

We have turned a blind eye as millions slid into greater insecurity.  

Nurses, builders, drivers, carers… 

People doing the right thing 

Working harder than ever… 

Recognised - at moments like this, before. 

Yet as soon as the cameras stop rolling… 

Their lives are ignored. 

I want to say very clearly to those people - not this time. 

Changing a country is not like flicking a switch… 

And the world is now a more volatile place. 

This will take a while. 

But have no doubt that the work of change begins - immediately.

Have no doubt - that we will rebuild Britain… 

With wealth created in every community. 

Our NHS back on its feet, facing the future. 

Secure borders…

Safer streets… 

Everyone treated with dignity and respect at work. 

The opportunity of clean British power…

Cutting your energy bills for good. 

And, brick by brick… 

We will rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity… 

The world class schools and colleges…

The affordable homes that I know… 

Are the ingredients of hope for working people… 

The security that working class families like mine… 

Could build their lives around. 

Because if I asked you, now… 

Whether you believe that Britain will be better for your children… 

I know - too many of you would say: no. 

And so my government will fight, every day… 

Until you believe again. 

From now on… 

You have a government unburdened by doctrine… 

Guided only by a determination to serve your interests…

To defy, quietly…  

Those who have written our country off.  

You have given us a clear mandate… 

And we will use it to deliver change… 

To restore service and respect to politics… 

End the era of noisy performance… 

Tread more lightly on your lives… 

And unite our country. 

Four nations… 

Standing together again… 

Facing down, as we have so often in our past…

The challenges of an insecure world…

Committed - to a calm and patient rebuilding. 

So with respect and humility… 

I invite you all… 

To join this government of service…

The prime minister has described England's win over the Netherlands in the Euros last night as "fantastic".

Sir Keir Starmer told broadcasters: "I managed to pop out from one of my sessions [at the NATO summit] for just five minutes, which is when I saw Harry Kane get the first goal.

"I missed the second one, but it was brilliant."

He went on to say: "I've always said this team were going to go all the way, so I'm really, really pleased - and just good luck for [the final on] Sunday."

Asked if he will arrange an extra bank holiday if England wins, the PM replied: "We should certainly mark the occasion, I don't want to jinx it. I went to the last Euros final, I don't want to go through that again.

"I don't want to jinx anything, but we must mark it in some way. But the most important thing is getting it over the line on Sunday."

Sir Keir has previously called for bank holidays if England won past tournaments.

Figures published today show that a total of 1.6 million children are now affected by the two-child benefit cap.

The Conservative government introduced the cap, which prevents parents from claiming child tax credit or Universal Credit for more than two children for those born after April 2017.

It means families cannot claim about £3,200 a year per extra child, the Resolution Foundation has said - and experts say it pushes many children into poverty.

Despite having said he won't, Sir Keir Starmer is under vast pressure to scrap the cap from both inside and outside his party.

Speaking to broadcasters, Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey said: "The quickest way to reduce child poverty, the most efficient, the most cost-effective way to get rid of the two child limit."

"I hope the government listens to Liberal Democrat arguments and to those who are experts in this to make sure that we can have a fairer society and that we can dramatically reduce child poverty."

Asked if he will try to force the issue by laying an amendment to the King's Speech next week, Sir Ed replied: "Let's see what happens in the King's Speech.

"We've made our arguments. We think we've won the argument."

Pushed on the question, he added: "We believe that the strength of our arguments are so good that the government will be forced to listen."

We've just been hearing from Sir Ed Davey following the news that water bills are set to rise by an average of 21% over the next five years.

The water regulator says it will allow a tripling of investment to stop future sewage spills, but the Liberal Democrat leader argues that customers should not foot the bill to fix what should already have been done.

He told broadcasters: "The British public have seen these water companies pumping their filthy sewage into our rivers, into our lakes, onto our beaches for years now.

"And the water regulator and the government let them get away with it.

"I don't think they [customers] should be paying for the economic incompetence of these water companies or the regulator's mistakes."

His party wants a "stronger regulator" to replace Ofwat to hold companies to account.

Sir Ed called for the water industry more broadly to be "quite transformed", saying "the current position is just not acceptable" - but would not so far as to say water companies should be nationalised.

This was a question posed to environment secretary Steve Reed this afternoon, after he met with water companies and regulators.

He held talks with executives from all 16 of the suppliers in England and Wales, including Thames Water, Yorkshire Water and Severn Trent.

And today, Ofwat declared that it was minded to slash, by a third, the combined increases that the companies had submitted in their business plans for the next five years.

It left the average bill, the watchdog said, set to rise by £19 a year or 21% over the period.

Asked if Labour would consider nationalising Thames Water, Mr Reed says this would "cost billions of pounds and take years potentially".

He said that this would also "slow down" plans to "clean up the unacceptable levels of pollution that are so outraging the public".

Pressed if this is a firm no, Mr Reed said: "No, it would cost billions of pounds."

Instead, he is pushing for a toughening of regulations.

The home secretary will make a decision soon on whether to change the laws around crossbow following the deaths of a mother and her two daughters.

Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of racing commentator John Hunt, and two of their daughters, Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28, were  killed on Monday  in an apparent crossbow attack.

Kyle Clifford, 26, who is believed to be known to the victims, was found injured by police and has been arrested following a manhunt.

Police said the killings involved the use of a crossbow and possibly other weapons.

Their deaths have led to calls for stricter laws on crossbows, possibly in line with stringent shotgun licence requirements.

Currently, the only legal requirement to owning or buying one is having to be 18 years old or over.

New security minister Dan Jarvis has told Sky News' Breakfast with Kay Burley that Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is currently considering the evidence and will take a view "in the near future".

A total of 1.6 million children are now affected by the two-child benefit cap as the Labour government faces pressure to lift it.

It means families cannot claim about £3,200 a year per extra child, the Resolution Foundation has said.

Economist at the organisation Lalitha Try said there was little evidence that policy had achieved its aims of boosting employment, but there was "clear evidence" of financial loss for families.

"Unless the policy is abolished, the majority of children in large families will fall below the poverty line by the end of the parliament," she added. "Any new child poverty strategy should find the funds to remove it."

The latest government statistics show a total of 1.6 million children in April were affected by the cap.

Sir Keir Starmer had previously said the cap should be scrapped,  but U-turned last year , saying he would not axe it if Labour won power due to the state of finances they have inherited.

He has faced pressure to scrap the cap from within his party, including former  Labour prime minister Gordon Brown , who said it is "condemning children to poverty".

Two of the contenders to become the next Conservative Party leader have started to bicker in public over leaks to a newspaper, which claimed one had accused the other of having a "very public" nervous breakdown.

The Times published the story on Tuesday, saying the remark had been made by shadow housing secretary Kemi Badenoch about ex-home secretary Suella Braverman during a shadow cabinet meeting.

The article also said Ms Badenoch had hit out at former prime minister Rishi Sunak for calling an election without informing his cabinet, and blamed his decision to  return from D-Day commemorations in France early   for the loss of cabinet ministers last Thursday.

Posting on X a day later, Ms Badenoch said it was a "shame" the discussions had been leaked, adding: "If there is no private space to discuss our party's challenges, we will never fully address what the electorate told us last week."

But this was followed by a tweet from her rival, Ms Braverman, appearing to call her party colleague out.

We reported earlier that Nigel Farage has reshuffled his top team, making Richard Tice the deputy leader of Reform UK.

That means that Ben Habib - who had served in that role since October last year - has been removed ( see post at 11.30 ).

He has not reacted well to the news, writing on X after Mr Farage informed him of the change: "I am considering my position more generally".

He went on: "I have long held concerns about the control of the party and the decision-making processes. I will reflect on all of this.

"The key for me is that Reform UK stays true to the promises made to the British people. The movement we have created does not belong to us, it belongs to the people. We are obliged and indebted to the British people."

As we've reported over recent months, the former veterans' minister, Johnny Mercer, has been fighting an order from the Afghanistan Inquiry to hand over the names of people who told him about alleged extra-judicial special forces killings.

While giving evidence in February, Mr Mercer repeatedly refused to hand over names of "multiple officers" who told him about allegations of murder and a cover-up.

He applied to the chair to be able to withhold the names - but that application has today been rejected.

In his ruling, Sir Charles Haddon-Cave quoted from the British Army’s values and standards by saying: "Integrity requires moral courage to do what is right, even when it may not be popular."

He ordered the former Tory MP to hand over the names by 25 July.

Biden Stumbles Over His Words as He Tries to Steady Re-Election Campaign

The president’s appearances have come under intense scrutiny since he appeared feeble in his debate against former President Donald J. Trump.

President Biden sought to steady his re-election campaign by talking with two Black radio hosts for interviews broadcast on Thursday, but he spoke haltingly at points during one interview and struggled to find the right phrase in the other, saying that he was proud to have been “the first Black woman to serve with a Black president.”

He also stumbled over his words during a four-minute Fourth of July speech to military families at the White House, beginning a story about former President Donald J. Trump, calling him “one of our colleagues, the former president” and then adding, “probably shouldn’t say, at any rate” before abruptly ending the story and moving on.

Mr. Biden made the mistake on WURD radio, based in Philadelphia, as he tried to deliver a line that he has repeated before about having pride in serving as vice president for President Barack Obama. Earlier in the interview, he boasted about appointing the first Black woman to the Supreme Court and picking the first Black woman to be vice president.

The president also made a mistake earlier in the interview when he asserted that he had been the first president elected statewide in Delaware. He appeared to mean that he was the first Catholic in the state to be elected statewide, going on to speak admiringly of John F. Kennedy, a Catholic.

Mr. Biden and his top aides have said the president’s activities in the coming days are part of a series of campaign efforts designed to prove to voters, donors and activists that the president’s debate debacle was nothing more than what he has called “a bad night.”

Ammar Moussa, a spokesman for Mr. Biden’s campaign, criticized the news media for making note of the president’s stumbles.
