After seven months of Ponniyin Selvan’s part 1 release, its sequel has hit the screens today. Mani Ratnam directed this star-studded action drama based on the novel Ponniyin Selvan penned by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The first part’s Tamil version was a massive hit, but the reception was not the same in other languages. So let’s see to what extent this sequel entertains.

The second part begins precisely where the first part ended. Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) and Vallavaraiyan Vandhiyadevudu (Karthi), who sank into the sea while fighting with Pandyas get saved by a mute woman Mandhakini (Aishwarya Rai). Later Arunmozhi Varman gets treated by Buddhas in Lanka. At the same time, Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai), along with Pandyas, plans a conspiracy to eradicate the Chola dynasty. This is also the time Chieftains of the Chola dynasty try to make Madhuranthakudu (Rehman) the Chola King by dethroning Aditya Karikaludu (Vikram). What happened later? Who exactly is this Mandhakini? What’s the mystery behind Nandhini looking alike Mandhakini? Did Arunmozhi and Vallavaraiyan Vandhiyadevudu return to the Chola dynasty? Who had the upper hand finally? The movie has the answers.

Plus Points:

The first part was heavily panned in other languages due to its convoluted screenplay and too many characters. But in part two, the screenplay is clear and straightforward without any confusion. All the unanswered questions of Ponniyin Selvan 1 will be answered in this sequel. All the dots are nicely connected towards the end.

The drama at places is neat, and there are a few nicely presented sequences in the movie. The focus was mainly on Aishwarya Rai’s character, and she did a fantabulous job as Nandhini. She also played another role as Mandhakini, which is very crucial to the film’s plot. An important sequence between Aishwarya Rai and Chiyaan Vikram which comes in the second half, is too good. Vikram gives a subtle performance as Aditya Karikaludu, and the actor amuses as always.

Jayam Ravi, who played the titular role, did an excellent job. He shines as Raja Raja Chola and brings the royalty required for the character. Again Karthi scores high for his all-round performance. He evokes laughs in the hall with his antics and shares a neat chemistry with Trisha. Karthi’s character is again used here for delivering entertainment.

Others like Prakash Raj, Rahman, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Kishore, Jaya Chitra, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi are decent in their respective roles. Almost every character, in one or the other way, drives the story forward.

Minus Points:

Just like part one, the sequel also suffers from slow pacing, which at times might cause irritation to the viewers. Even the scenes which have neat drama get stretched unnecessarily. The slow-motion close-up shots are way too many in the movie. Had the editing team cut short the length of many scenes, the impact could have been multifold.

The movie lacks any high moments though there was a chance to include them. There should have been some adrenaline moments without deviating from the story. This actually could have spiced up things taking the film to the next level. But it looks like the makers wantedly stuck to a flat narrative. This might not work well with all the sections of the audience. The war sequences are clumsy, and they needed better execution.

Technical Aspects:

Technically Ponniyin Selvan 2 is just splendid. The production design is exquisite, and Thota Tharrani did a stupendous job. The songs by AR Rahman are decent, but his background score in a few scenes is very effective. The cinematography by Ravi Varma is fair. The VFX works are nice, and the production values are fantastic. The editing team should have cut short the film by at least fifteen minutes.

Coming to the director, Mani Ratnam, he has done an okay job with the sequel. Though the movie has a decent amount of drama and good performances, the slow-paced narrative hampers the overall impact. That being said that Ponniyin Selvan 2 is definitely a better outing than the first part. The second hour is better than the initial hour, with some exciting moments taking place between the key characters.

On the whole, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a satisfactory sequel that has some interesting and well-executed sequences. The absorbing storyline, decent drama, and solid performances are its assets. PS 2 is surely better than its predecessor, but to enjoy the film, one has to sit through the slow-paced narrative. Give it a shot if you love watching period dramas.

బాహుబ‌లి... కె.జి.ఎఫ్ సినిమాల స్థాయిలో త‌దుప‌రి భాగం ఎప్పుడెప్పుడా అంటూ ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్లో ఆస‌క్తి రేకెత్తించిన చిత్రం `పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వ‌న్‌`. 9వ శతాబ్దం నాటి చోళ సామ్రాజ్యం నేప‌థ్యంలో సాగే క‌థ ఇది. క‌ల్కి కృష్ణ‌మూర్తి ర‌చించిన న‌వ‌ల ఆధారంగా రూపొందింది. ప‌లువురు ద‌ర్శ‌కులు చేసిన ప‌లు ప్ర‌య‌త్నాల త‌ర్వాత  ఈ సినిమాని విజ‌య‌వంతంగా తెర‌కెక్కించారు అగ్ర ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు మ‌ణిర‌త్నం. తొలి భాగం సినిమా గ‌తేడాది విజ‌య‌వంతంగా ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని మెప్పించింది. రెండో భాగంగా `పి.ఎస్‌2` పేరుతో వ‌చ్చిన ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉందో తెలుసుకునే ముందు క‌థేమిటో చూద్దాం..

క‌థేంటంటే:  చోళ యువ‌రాజు అరుణ్‌మొళి వ‌ర్మ అలియాస్ పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వ‌న్ (జ‌యం ర‌వి) త‌న‌పైకి వ‌చ్చిన శ‌త్రుమూక‌లతో పోరాడుతూ స‌ముద్రంలో మునిగిపోవ‌డంతో తొలి భాగం క‌థ ముగుస్తుంది.  అరుణ్‌మొళికి ఎప్పుడు ఆప‌ద వ‌చ్చినా కాపాడే ఓ వృద్ధురాలు ఈసారి కూడా అత‌ని కోసం స‌ముద్రంలో ప్ర‌త్య‌క్ష‌మ‌వుతుంది. నందిని (ఐశ్వ‌ర్య‌రాయ్‌) పోలిక‌ల‌తో క‌నిపించే ఆ వృద్ధురాలు ఎవ‌రు? ఈసారి వ‌చ్చిన  ఆప‌ద నుంచి అరుణ్‌మొళిని ఆమె కాపాడిందా లేదా? వీరపాండ్య హ‌త్య‌కి ప్ర‌తీకారంగా చోళ రాజుల్ని అంతం చేయ‌డ‌మే ల‌క్ష్యంగా వేచి చూస్తున్న పాండ్య సైన్యం ల‌క్ష్యం నెర‌వేరిందా? మ‌రోవైపు  మ‌ధురాంత‌కుడి (రెహ‌మాన్‌)ని చోళ రాజ్యానికి  ప‌ట్ట‌పురాజుని చేయాల‌ని సొంత రాజ్యంలోనే  న‌డుస్తున్న  రాజ‌కీయాలు ఎంత‌వ‌ర‌కు చేరాయి? త‌న‌పై మ‌న‌సుప‌డిన ఆదిత్య క‌రికాలుడు (విక్ర‌మ్‌)ని వ్యూహం ప్ర‌కారం త‌న కోట‌కి ర‌ప్పించిన నందిని అత‌డిని ఏం చేసింది? అస‌లు 9వ శ‌త‌కంలో చోళ సామ్రాజ్యంలో ఏం జరిగింద‌నేది రెండో భాగం సినిమాలోని క‌థ‌.

ఎలా ఉందంటే:  నందిని పోలిక‌ల‌తో ఉన్న ఆ వృద్ధురాలు ఎవ‌రనే ఆస‌క్తిని రేకెత్తిస్తూ తొలి భాగాన్ని ముగించిన ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు... ఆ అంశంపైనే రెండో భాగం  ప్ర‌ధాన క‌థ‌ని తీర్చిదిద్దాడు. తొలి భాగం సినిమాలో చోళ సామ్రాజ్యం.. అందులోని ప్ర‌ధాన వ్య‌క్తులు.. వారికున్న ఆకాంక్ష‌లు ప‌రిచ‌యం కాగా రెండో భాగం  సినిమా మ‌రింత లోతుల్లోకి తీసుకెళ్లి క‌థ‌ని వివ‌రిస్తుంది. ఒక రాజ్యంపై శ‌త్రువుల‌కి ఉండే ప‌గ, ప్ర‌తీకారాలు... వాటిని తీర్చుకోవ‌డం కోసం చేసే ప్ర‌య‌త్నాలు, రాజ్యాధికారమే ప‌ర‌మావ‌ధి అనుకున్న‌ప్పుడు సొంత  మ‌నుషుల మ‌ధ్యే చోటు చేసుకునే కుట్ర‌లు, కుతంత్రాలు.. ఆ క్ర‌మంలో చోటు చేసుకునే నాట‌కీయ ప‌రిణామాలు,  ప్రేమతో ద‌గ్గ‌రై ఆ త‌ర్వాత దూర‌మైన  కొన్ని  మ‌న‌సుల మ‌ధ్య సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ‌, వీరోచిత సాహ‌సాలు, త్యాగాల నేప‌థ్యంలోనే ఈ క‌థ సాగుతుంది. చరిత్రాత్మ‌క న‌వ‌ల పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వ‌న్ ఆధారంగా అదే పేరుతోనే ఈ సినిమా రూపుదిద్దుకుంది. న‌వ‌ల‌లోనే సినిమాకి కావ‌ల్సినంత డ్రామా ఉంది. దాన్ని ప‌క్కాగా తెర‌పైకి తీసుకొచ్చారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. నందిని, ఆదిత్య క‌రికాలుడి ప్రేమ స‌న్నివేశాల‌తో ఆహ్లాద‌క‌రంగా సినిమా మొదల‌వుతుంది. చిరంజీవి వాయిస్ ఓవ‌ర్‌తో అస‌లు క‌థ‌లోకి ప్ర‌వేశిస్తుంది.

అరుణ్‌మొళి స‌ముద్రంలో మునిగిపోయిన త‌ర్వాత చోళ‌రాజ్యంలోనూ, పాండ్య‌నాడులోనూ చోటు చేసుకునే ప‌రిణామాలు, బౌద్ధ గురువుల స‌మ‌క్షంలో చోటు చేసుకునే  నాట‌కీయ ప‌రిణామాలు ప్రేక్ష‌కుడిని క‌థ‌లో లీనం చేస్తాయి. మందాకిని ఎవ‌ర‌నే అంశం చుట్టూ అల్లిన స‌న్నివేశాలు, ఆదిత్య క‌రికాలుడు... నందిని మ‌ధ్య  సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ ఈ సినిమాకి కీల‌కం. ఆ రెండు పాత్ర‌లకి ముగింపునిచ్చిన తీరు మ‌న‌సుల్ని హ‌త్తుకుంటుంది. తొలి భాగం క‌థ ఎక్కువ‌గా వ‌ల్ల‌వ‌రాయుడు చేసే సాహ‌సాలు, అతడు చేసే అల్ల‌రి చుట్టూనే సాగుతుంది. ఈసినిమాలోనూ ఆ పాత్ర కీల‌కం. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ఈ క‌థ సాగే 9వ శ‌తాబ్దంలోకి ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని తీసుకెళ్లి కూర్చోబెట్టాడు. ఆయ‌న‌కి సాంకేతిక విభాగాలు చ‌క్క‌టి స‌హ‌కారాన్ని అందించాయి. యుద్ధ స‌న్నివేశాల‌తో ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాలు సాగుతాయి. వాటిని తీర్చిదిద్దిన విధానంలో కొత్త‌ద‌నమేమీ లేదు. కానీ ఆ త‌ర్వాత స‌న్నివేశాలు ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటాయి. అయితే పాత్ర‌ల విష‌యంలో మాత్రం కాస్త గంద‌ర‌గోళం త‌ప్ప‌దు. తొలి భాగం చూసినా స‌రే, మ‌రోసారి ఆ క‌థ‌ని ప‌క్కాగా గుర్తు చేసుకుని వెళితే త‌ప్ప రెండో భాగం సినిమా అర్థం కాదు. అస‌లు నందిని... ఆదిత్య క‌రికారులుడు యుక్త వ‌య‌సులో దూరం కావ‌డానికి నిజ‌మైన కార‌ణాలేమిటి? దాని వెన‌క ఎవ‌రున్నారు? మ‌ందాకినికి సుంద‌ర చోళుడుకీ మ‌ధ్య సంబంధం ఏమిటి? అత‌ను ఆమెకి ఎలా అన్యాయం చేశాడు?  త‌దిత‌ర ప్ర‌శ్న‌ల‌కి స‌మాధానాలు స్ప‌ష్టంగా చెప్ప‌లేక‌పోయారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. ఆ విష‌యాల్లో గంద‌ర‌గోళ‌మే ఎక్కువ‌.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే:  తారాగ‌ణ‌మే సినిమాకి ప్ర‌ధాన‌బ‌లం. ప్ర‌తి ఒక్క‌రూ ఆయా పాత్ర‌ల్లో ఒదిగిపోయారు. ముఖ్యంగా రెండో భాగంలో విక్ర‌మ్‌, ఐశ్వ‌ర్య‌రాయ్ పాత్ర‌లు మ‌న‌సుల్ని హ‌త్తుకుంటాయి. విక్ర‌మ్ క‌నిపించేది త‌క్కువ సమయమే కావొచ్చు, కానీ.. ఆ పాత్ర బ‌ల‌మైన ప్ర‌భావమే చూపిస్తుంది. ఐశ్వ‌ర్య‌రాయ్ రెండు కోణాల్లో సాగే పాత్ర‌లో క‌నిపించి ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటారు. కార్తీ, జ‌యం ర‌వి ఆయా పాత్ర‌ల్లో ఒదిగిపోయారు. తొలి భాగంలో జ‌యరాం పాత్ర న‌వ్వించింది. ఇందులో ఆ పాత్ర ప‌రిధి త‌క్కువే. కుంద‌వై పాత్ర‌లో  త్రిష త‌న అందంతో ఆక‌ట్టుకున్నారు. ఐశ్వ‌ర్య‌ల‌క్ష్మి, శోభితా ధూళిపాళ్ల‌,  శ‌ర‌త్‌కుమార్‌, పార్తీబ‌న్‌, విక్ర‌మ్ ప్ర‌భు, ప్ర‌భు, రెహ‌మాన్ త‌దిత‌రులు ప‌రిధి మేర‌కు న‌టించారు. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. ర‌వివ‌ర్మ‌న్ కెమెరా అద్భుతాలే చేసింది. కోట‌లు, రాజ‌మందిరాల్లో తీర్చిదిద్దిన స‌న్నివేశాలు, యుద్ధ స‌న్నివేశాలు ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటాయి. ఆయ‌న లైటింగ్ 9వ శతాబ్దంలోనే ఉన్నామా అనిపించేలా ఉంది. ఎ.ఆర్‌.రెహ‌మాన్ సంగీతం మ‌రో ఆక‌ర్ష‌ణ‌. పాట‌లు, నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం సినిమా స్థాయికి త‌గ్గ‌ట్టు కుదిరాయి. తోట త‌ర‌ణి క‌ళా ప్ర‌తిభ ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. కూర్పు, విజువ‌ల్ ఎఫెక్ట్స్ ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటాయి. జ‌యం ర‌వి, కార్తీ సొంతంగా చెప్పిన సంభాష‌ణ‌లు,  జ‌యరాం పాత్ర‌కి త‌నికెళ్ల భ‌ర‌ణి చెప్పిన డ‌బ్బింగ్ సినిమాకి తెలుగుద‌నాన్ని తీసుకొచ్చింది. నిర్మాణం ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. ప్ర‌తీ స‌న్నివేశం బ‌ల‌మైన హంగుల‌తో కనిపిస్తుంది. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు మ‌ణిర‌త్నం త‌న మార్క్ మేకింగ్‌తో సినిమాని తీర్చిదిద్దారు.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: An Epic That Looks Primed To Stand The Test Of Time

With the scale and spectacle of the first part intact in every respect, the Ponniyin Selvan follow-up is shorn of the information overload that made huge demands on those segments of the audience that were not familiar with the long and eventful history of the Chola dynasty. The two parts are roughly identical in length but they differ in the matter of how the plot is underwired. Ponniyin Selvan-2 (PS-2) feels far leaner and more briskly paced than its predecessor.

Palpably more straightforward, the PS-2 narrative, a Tamil historical epic released nationwide in multiple languages, is much easier to grasp and savour. But like the first part, it is frequently eye-popping in terms of its visual grandeur. Mani Ratnam's measured directorial style ensures that the film is much more than just dazzling. It is consistently entertaining and engaging.

PS-2 starts off with a lavishly filmed, wonderfully mounted prologue that takes the audience back to the time of the young Aditha Karikalan's first meeting with orphan girl Nandini, who strays into the kingdom and catches the eye of the Chola prince. The film then dives into the many conspiracies, internecine tussles and secret liaisons that threaten the kingdom.

The script does not let the spotlight move away from the wide spectrum of the drama that is at the heart of the sweeping saga of ambition, betrayal, guilt and expiation. An enemy's enemy is a friend - that is a line that is spouted on more than one occasion. The Cholas have no dearth of enemies lying in wait to forge strategic alliances and launch an attack.

Ponniyin Selvan , based on an adaptation of Kalki's magnum opus by director Mani Ratnam, B. Jeyamohan and Elango Kumaravel, takes some liberties with the much-loved literary work. It yields dividends because the departures are never unduly self-conscious. The overall impact of the construct is accentuated by Ratnam's firm grasp on the technical aspects and the textual essence of the story.

PS-2 , certainly to a significantly greater extent than the first part, is remarkably sinewy and compact whole despite its nearly three-hour runtime. The film is a treat for the eyes. Cinematographer Ravi Varman composes frames that capture the expanse of the locations even as they drill into the granular details of the exquisite images that the camera conjures up. The appeal is neither just sensory or superficial. PS-2 has enough in its folds to touch the mind and the heart.

The pomp and pageantry that are woven into the narrative tapestry do not take attention away from the story - a testimony to Ratnam's ability to achieve an alchemy of visual flourishes, emotional traction and technical finesse. The multiplicity of characters can still baffle a tad, but the free-flowing drama and action on the screen is never less than spellbinding.

On one level, PS-2 continues to be a story of unrequited love. Karikalan's (Vikram) choppy relationship with Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and the danger that it poses to the Chola crown prince constitute an important part of the sprawling plot.

On another, the film addresses the making of the model ruler who was destined to usher in the golden age of the Chola dynasty. It tracks the steps taken by Aditha Karikalan's younger, even-tempered brother, Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi), towards the throne as well as the ups and downs that confront Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan (Karthi), the Vanara clan warrior-prince, as he fights off a series of physical threats.

Arunmozhi's voice of reason and restraint is central to the film because it delivers one of the central themes of the story - the nature of power and ambition weighed against the duties of a ruler. The benign and brave Prince puts a King's purpose into perspective. In one scene, he is advised to hoodwink his people and slip out of a tight spot. He refuses. Without trust in your subjects, governance isn't possible, he asserts. That truism has timeless resonance.

When PS-2 gets into its stride post-credits, Arunmozhi is believed to have perished in a shipwreck, there is talk of revenge in the air and a band of Pandyan warriors are in the middle of covert preparations for an attack on the Cholas. The kingdom is surrounded by traitors and threats lurk at every corner for the ailing King Sundara Chola (Prakash Raj) and his children.

PS-2 reveals the story of the grey-haired Mandakini (Aishwarya in a double role), who the audience had seen briefly in the final moments of PS-1 . It delves into the reason for the resemblance that she bears to Nandini and the nature of her relationship with Veerapandiyan, whose dastardly beheading drove a wedge between the Cholas and the Pandyans.

The quality of the performances that the director extracts from the actors is extraordinarily consistent, with Chiyan Vikram's powerful presence serving as a firm anchor for a few of the film's most important sequences. The others in the cast, notably Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi and Jayam Ravi, are also always on the ball and lose no opportunity to make their presence felt.

Trisha (as Chola Princess Kundavai), Sobhita Dhulipala (as Kodumbalur Princess Vaanathi) and Aishwarya Lekshmi (as Poonghuzali alias 'lady of the sea' Samuthirakumari), too, have their moments although they are somewhat crowded out of the film.

With literally a cast of hundreds to deal with, Ratnam does remarkably well to fit them all in and impart to each of the characters a distinct space in the larger scheme of things. Veteran actors like Prakash Raj, R. Sharath Kumar and R. Parthiban have to make do limited footage but they are by no means reduced to irrelevance.

Ponniyin Selvan-2  completes what PS-1 set out to create - a screen version of a daunting text. The result is a cinematic work of monumental proportions, an epic that looks primed to stand the test of time.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: Mani Ratnam Finally Lets His World Bloom With Its Lethalness, Mysticism & Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Ethereal Presence

Adapted by mani ratnam, jayamohan, and kumaravel from kalki’s iconic work, ponniyin selvan 2 finally manages to find its soul and a hook to put the multiple threads it intimated in the first part..

What’s Good: it is the sudden shift to detail,  finding the moment amid the pristine grandeur and Aishwarya’s deep sea-like eyes that make part 2 a much more poignant movie than the first.

What’s Bad: Ratnam introduces a platter full of characters, but some don’t get the redemption their arcs deserve.

Loo Break: Part 2 is a fascinating watch that finally dives deeper into the lethal world of Cholas and the enemies around them. You don’t get to miss the moments.

Watch or Not?: You must because this is finally Mani Ratnam, the master bringing out the complexities of the world he has borrowed from Kalki Krishnamurthy.

Taking ahead the story of the Cholas, Arunmozhi (Jayam Ravi) is alive, Nandini (Aishwarya) still seeks revenge, Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) continues to be the protector and a broken lover, Kanduvai (Trisha), and Vallavaraiyan (Karthi) continues to weave them all in a single tale. Plans are laid against the Cholas and war is fought only to realise that the real battles were more personal than we thought.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: Script Analysis

We have to agree with the fact that the fuel to Mani Ratnam’s cinema is the unrequited love and the abundance of it. The filmmaker knows how to make people fall in love and then drag them out of it while making his audience a part of a destructive love story. For someone who didn’t like Ponniyin Selvan 1, Part 2 came in as a massive shift and a beautiful surprise, mostly because Ratnam has a love saga to tell here at the helm of a story about a reigning house.

Adapted by Mani Ratnam, Jayamohan, and Kumaravel from Kalki’s iconic work, Ponniyin Selvan 2 finally manages to find its soul and a hook to put the multiple threads it intimated in the first part. While I still believe the first left too much for the second, it is in Ratnam’s mastery that he made it all work. PS 2 exists in its moments more than the grandeur that is designed by the creators so skilfully. Yes, the fight is for the throne, but that never makes an impactful entry to the movie visually. But that does work well, too, because all the key moments are created away from the treasures and the thrones, leaving a long-lasting impact.

PS 2 works as a redemption for at least the key characters in more ways than one. Mani Ratnam is in no haste at the beginning to take you where he left with the first part. He rather invests the opening 10 minutes or so in telling you the love story that was introduced in bits and pieces. Aditha and Nandini’s saga becomes the centre conflict and is so poignant. A fierce prince in love with an orphan who is ousted because she has no house to be eligible for becoming a queen. That makes her fantasise power and work towards it, only to meet the lover in the most traumatic turn of life.

Ratnam’s magic unfolds right here when he weaves the entire widespread narrative around this plot. While he does move the other parallel storylines, but he always kind of creates a void purposely so a viewer’s mind would keep wanting to come back to it. The first half is spent busting the evil plans and letting the love between its multiple characters bloom.

The problem begins beyond the interval where Ratnam picks up pace, and doesn’t let us breathe in the heavy moments. It doesn’t let us process some of the most pivotal twists one of which even involves the mysterious aged Aishwarya, introduced at the end of part 1. Her mystery is revealed only to snatch bet away in one scene, making it all look like a waste of opportunity. Similarly, multiple characters do not get their deserving redemption.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: Star Performance

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has to be one of the most underrated actors. Her demand in the circle of period cinema somewhere made people think that the grandeur compensates for her but that was never the case. As an actor, she brings so much to the table, and Ponniyin Selvan 2 lets her go wild with Nandini. She commands your attention and doesn’t let you move even a bit in her presence. There is so much mystic beauty even when she walks into Ravi Varman’s camera that it makes the frame even more beautiful.

Vikram is a performer who knows his job well. Adding Aditha to his characters that go wild after a point and let it leak into their behaviour, he adds a lot more than what you see on the screen. There is so much to learn from the way he approaches the part that is the King In Line, but he manages to make him human first.

Ponniyin Selvan cannot be mentioned without talking about Karthi and his acting range, that makes him the most prominent cast members. His casting must have been the toughest bait because he is the voice of the viewer in here. Karthi knows humour, he is good at action, and can make you root for him.

Jayam Ravi, as Arunmozhi, is likable and also very charming. Trisha shows her vulnerable side this time, and she is brilliant. Wish Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi deserves much more screentime. Dhulipala shows so much potential in the little she gets, some more complex scenes would have done wonders for her.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: Direction, Music

Mani Ratnam as the director in PS 2, is in his glory. The filmmaker creates a visual spectacle expected from him and worships his story more than anything. Be it the moment where the three Chola siblings finally meet after investing two movies in saving them, or the final moments between Nandini and Aditha, or Vallavaraiyan’s helplessness; he captures all of it with ‘theraav’.

With DOP Ravi Varman, Ratnam’s longtime collaborator, he creates visuals which are stunning and detailed. Top angle shots of two people talking, or Aishwarya Rai Bachchan simply breathing. They all look ethereal. How does Mani Ratnam managed capture Aishwarya in such a godly manner should be a case study. The set design and costumes are worth every minute.

The only place where Ponniyin Selvan 2 flickers visually are the war sequences. Two reasons lead to the bothering aspect. First being the haste in which they appear in the story and second, that very flat execution.

AR Rahman and his music evolve 10 folds from one, and there is so much nuance that his music adds in every single frame. Gulzar Sahab only accentuates this set up with his words.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: The Last Word

Ponniyin Selvan 2 works like a brilliant compensation for sitting through a scattered part 1. There is so much to grasp here and a Ratnam brand lethal love saga in the centre of it all LLP. You must invest in this one.

ఇంతకీ ఈ రెండవ భాగంలో ఉన్నదేంటంటే..పాండ్యుల దాడిలో దెబ్బతిని అరుళ్ మొళి (జయం రవి) సముద్రంలో మునిగిపోతే ఒక వృద్ధమహిళ అతనిని కాపాడుతుంది. అతనితో పాటూ వందియ దేవుడు (కార్తి) కూడా బతికి బట్టకడతాడు. అరుళ్ మొళికి ఒక బౌద్ధ విహారంలో చికిత్సలు, సేవలు జరగగడంతో అతను పూర్తిగా కోలుకుంటాడు. 

ఇదిలా ఉంటే, ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడిని (విక్రం), సుందర చోళుడిని (ప్రకాష్ రాజ్), కుందవి (త్రిష) ని ఒకేసారి అంతమొందించి చోళసామ్రాజ్యానికి తెర దించేయాలని పన్నాగాలు పన్నుతుంటుంది నందిని (ఐశ్వర్యా రాయ్). ఇంతకీ ఆమె కక్షకి గల కారణమేంటి? ఆమె ఎవరి కూతురు? ఆమె ఎత్తుగడలు ఎంతవరకు నెరవేరుతాయి? చివరకు ఆమె కథ ఏమౌతుంది? ఇదంతా ఒక పార్శ్వం. 

మరో పక్క అరుళ్ మొళి కి చిచాన్న (మధురాంతకుడు) చోళసామ్రాజ్యాధినేత అవ్వాలనుకుంటాడు. అతనికి ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడి చేతిలో దెబ్బతిన్న రాష్ట్రకూటులు, మరికొందరు శివభక్తులు దన్నుగా నిలుస్తారు. 

మధ్యలో పల్లవ రాజు ఒకడు అప్పటి వరకు ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడితో మిత్రుడిగా ఉన్నవాడు నందిని వైపు మొగ్గి పార్టీ మారి చోళ రాజ్యానికి శత్రువౌతాడు. 

ఇలా చోళ, పాండ్య, పల్లవ, రాష్ట్రకుట రాజ్యాల మధ్యన రకరకాల రాజకీయాలు, కుట్రలు, కుతంత్రాలు, హత్యల నడుమ సాగి చివరికి సుఖాంతమౌతుంది. 

తమిళ సాహిత్య చరిత్రలో ఎంతో గొప్పదని చెప్పబడే ఈ నవలలో అంత ఆశ్చర్యపోయే విషయమేముందో బోధపడదు. ఈ భవన కలగడానికి కారణం కల్కి కృష్ణమూర్తా లేక మణిరత్నమా అన్నది నవల చదివి సినిమా చూసిన వారికే తెలియాలి. 

ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడిని చంపిందెవరో పూర్తి క్లారిటీ ఇవ్వకుండా మణిరత్నం తికమకపెట్టాడా లేక నవలలోనే అలా ఉందా అనేది తెలియదు. 

నవలని సినిమాగా తీస్తున్నప్పుడు ట్విస్టులు, సర్ప్రైజులు, షాక్ ఎలిమెంట్స్, "వారెవా" అనిపించే సంభాషణలు వంటివి ఎన్నుంటే అంత గొప్ప చిత్రరాజమౌతుంది. ఇక్కడే రాజమౌళి ఎప్పుడూ టాప్ మార్క్స్ కొట్టేస్తాడు. మణిరత్నం మాత్రం వెనకబడ్డాడు. 

తనికెళ్ల భరణి సంభాషణలు తమిళంలోంచి తెలుగులోకి అరవవాసన లేకుండా రాసి మెప్పించారు. కానీ ఒరిజినల్లో ఏదుంటే అది నేటివిటీ చెడకుండా రాబట్టగలిగారు కానీ "ఔరా" అనిపించడానికి మూలంలో అంత పస ఉన్న డైలాగ్స్ లేవు మరి. 

అన్నేసి పాత్రల పేర్లు, మధ్యలో ఆ ఊళ్ల పేర్లు గుర్తు పెట్టుకోలేక సతమతమవ్వాల్సిన పరిస్థితి తప్పదు. మొదటి భాగాన్ని శ్రద్ధగా చరిత్ర పాఠం నేర్చుకుంటున్న విద్యార్ధిలాగ చూసిన వాళ్లకి రెండవ పార్ట్ ఎక్కొచ్చేమో కానీ లేకపోతే అర్ధంకాక నీరసమొస్తుంది. 

ఈ భాగంలో జయం రవి పాత్ర పెద్దది. ఈ కథ రిత్యా ఎక్కువమంది తెలుగువాళ్లకి తెలిసిన ఒకేఒక్క పేరు రాజరాజచోళుడు. అతని అసలు పేరే అరుళ్ మోళి. అతనే కావేరీనది పుత్రుడు..పొన్నియన్ సెల్వన్. "పొన్ని" అనేది కావేరీ నదికి స్థానిక నామం. చేసినంత వరకు బాగానే చేసి మెప్పించాడు. 

కరికాలుడిగా విక్రం కొన్ని చోట్ల బాగా నటించాడు. అంత బాధ్యతాయుతమైన వీరుడు తనని చంపేసుకోమని ప్రధేయపడడం దేనికో అర్ధం కాదు. ఈ పాత్ర ట్రీట్మెంట్ వీక్ గా ఉన్నట్టే. 

కార్తిది ఇందులో కూడా పూర్తి నిడివున్న పాత్రే. 

ఐశ్వార్యా రాయ్ నెగటివ్ షేడ్ మరింతగా చూడొచ్చు ఇందులో. అయితే ఆమె చేస్తున్న పనులకి కారణమేంటో బలమైన ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ లేనే లేదు. ఏదో ఉందిలే అనుకుంటే అది సరిపోలేదు. 

వృద్ధ ఐశ్వర్యా రాయ్ పాత్ర శుద్ధ దండగయ్యింది. మొదటి భాగం ముగింపులో ఇచ్చిన బిల్డప్పుకి, రెండవ భాగంలో అతిధి పాత్రగా కనిపించిన తీరుకి అస్సలు బ్యాలెన్స్ అవ్వలేదు.  

పాటలు పెద్దగా గుర్తుంచుకునేలా లేవు. ఒక్క "వీర రాజ వీర" తప్ప మిగిలినవన్నీ అరవ పాటలు వింటున్నట్టే ఉన్నాయి. ఎక్కడా నేటివిటీ ధ్వనించలేదు. నేపథ్య సంగీతం కూడా ఉండాల్సిన స్థాయిలో లేదు. ఈ విషయంలో రెహ్మాన్ నిరుత్సాహ పరిచాడనే చెప్పాలి. 

కెమెరా, వీ.ఎఫ్.ఎక్స్, కాస్ట్యూంస్, ఆర్ట్ శాఖ, మేకప్ అన్నీ మొదటి భాగంలో లాగానే చాలా బాగున్నాయని చెప్పాలి. 

ఏది ఏమైనా "పొన్నియన్ సెల్వన్-2" అద్భుతమనిపించదు. బాహుబలి లాంటి సినిమాని చూసేసాక మేకింగులో కానీ, కంటెంట్ లో కానీ దానిని మించి ఉంటే తప్ప అద్భుతమనే పరిస్థితి కనిపించడంలేదు. కనీసం ఆ స్థాయిలో నిలబడ్డా మెచ్చుకోవచ్చు. 

మొత్తానికి మణిరత్నం ఇంత భారీ సినిమాని మీదేసుకుని చేయడం ప్రశంశార్హం. పడిన శ్రమ, చిత్తశుద్ధి అన్నీ ప్రస్ఫుటంగా కనిపిస్తున్నాయి. ఫలితం దక్కకపోయినా వ్రతం మాత్రం చెడినట్టు కాదు. ఈ సినిమా ఫలితం ఏమైనా మణిరత్నం తన గౌరవాన్ని మాత్రం నాలుగింతలు పెంచుకున్నారు. 

ఇష్టపడి చూస్తూ, కష్టపడి అర్ధం చేసుకునే వాళ్లకి ఈ సినిమా నచ్చవచ్చు.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: గతేడాది సెప్టెంబర్‌లో రిలీజ్ అయిన ‘పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ 1’ తమిళనాట ఇండస్ట్రీ హిట్‌గా నిలిచింది. ఏకంగా రూ. 500 కోట్ల వరకు వసూళ్లను సాధించింది. విక్రమ్, కార్తీ, జయం రవి, ఐశ్వర్య రాయ్ బచ్చన్, త్రిష వంటి భారీ స్టార్ట్ కాస్టింగ్‌, ఏఆర్ రెహమాన్ మ్యూజికల్ మ్యాజిక్ ఈ సినిమాను బ్లాక్‌బస్టర్‌గా మార్చాయి. ప్రముఖ తమిళ రచయత కల్కి రాసిన ‘పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్’ నవల ఆధారంగా ఈ సినిమాను తెరకెక్కించారు. మొదటి భాగం కేవలం ట్రైలర్ మాత్రమేనని, రెండో భాగం మరింత అద్భుతంగా ఉంటుందని సినిమా ప్రమోషన్‌లో స్టార్లందరూ చెప్పారు. మరి మణిరత్నం మోస్ట్ అవైటెడ్ ప్రాజెక్ట్ హిట్ అయిందా?

కథ (Ponniyin Selvan 2 Story): వల్లవరాయ వందియ దేవుడు (కార్తీ), పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ (జయం రవి)... చోళనాడుకు నౌకపై వెళ్తుండగా వారిపై దాడి జరిగి నీటిలో మునిగిపోవడంతో మొదటి భాగం ముగుస్తుంది. రెండో భాగాన్ని ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడు (విక్రమ్), నందిని (ఐశ్వర్యా రాయ్) చిన్ననాటి ప్రేమకథ నుంచి మొదలు పెడతారు. ఆ ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ తర్వాత నీటిలో మునిగిపోయిన వందియ దేవుడు, పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్‌లను పూంగుళి (ఐశ్వర్య లక్ష్మి) కాపాడుతుంది. మరోవైపు ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడు, కుందవై (త్రిష), పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్‌లను ఒకేసారి చంపడానికి నందిని... పాండ్యులతో కలిసి పథకం వేస్తుంది. మరి నందిని పథకం సఫలం అయిందా? చోళనాడుకు చివరికి ఎవరు రాజు అయ్యారు? ఇవన్నీ తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.

విశ్లేషణ: ‘పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ 1’ తమిళనాట పెద్ద హిట్ అయినప్పటికీ తెలుగులో మాత్రం సో సో గానే ఆడింది. స్క్రీన్ మీద లెక్క పెట్టలేనన్ని పాత్రలు, ఒక్కో పాత్రకు మరిన్ని పేర్లు... ఇవన్నీ కథపైన కాన్సన్‌ట్రేట్ చేయనివ్వలేదు. అయితే మొదటి భాగం తర్వాత దాదాపు ఆరు నెలలు గ్యాప్ రావడంతో ఆడియన్స్‌కు ఈ కథపై ఒక ఐడియా వచ్చింది. రెండో భాగం మొదటి సన్నివేశం నుంచే కథలోకి వెళ్లిపోయారు దర్శకుడు మణిరత్నం.

ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడు, నందినిల చిన్ననాటి ప్రేమ కథ స్క్రీన్‌పై అందంగా కనిపిస్తుంది. పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ చనిపోయాడని తన కుటుంబం పడే బాధ, ఇదే అదనుగా రాజ్యం కోసం శత్రువులు పన్నే పన్నాగాలు, మరోవైపు శ్రీలంకలో వందియ దేవుడు, పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ తమను తాము కాపాడుకోవడానికి చేసే ప్రయత్నాల మధ్య ఫస్టాఫ్ చాలా రేసీగా సాగుతుంది.

కానీ సెకండాఫ్ కొంచెం సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెడుతుంది. కథలోని కీలక పాత్రల మధ్య డ్రామా పండించడానికి మణిరత్నం ప్రయత్నించినా అది ల్యాగ్ అనిపిస్తుంది తప్ప అంత ఎఫెక్టివ్‌గా కనిపించదు. సెకండాఫ్‌లో విక్రమ్, ఐశ్వర్యా రాయ్‌ల మధ్య వచ్చే సన్నివేశం అద్భుతంగా తెర మీదకు వచ్చింది. అలాగే నందిని పాత్రకు సంబంధించిన ట్విస్టులు బాగా వర్కవుట్ అవుతాయి. చివర్లో వచ్చే యుద్ధ సన్నివేశం ఏదో పెట్టాలి కాబట్టి పెట్టారు అన్నట్లు ఉంటుంది తప్ప కథకు కీలకం ఏమీ కాదు. బాహుబలిలో వార్ సీన్లు చూసిన కళ్లతో ఈ యుద్ధ సన్నివేశాలను అస్సలు చూడలేం.

విజువల్ ఎఫెక్ట్స్ క్వాలిటీ కూడా అంత బాగాలేదు. దానికి తగ్గట్లు వైడ్ ఫ్రేమ్స్ ఉండే షాట్లు సినిమాలో చాలా తక్కువగా ఉంటాయి. యాక్టర్లకు క్లోజప్ షాట్లు ఎక్కువ పెట్టారు. పాటలు సినిమాకు స్పీడ్ బ్రేకర్లు అవుతాయనుకున్నారేమో బ్యాక్‌గ్రౌండ్ సాంగ్స్ మాత్రమే వాడారు. ‘ఆగనందే’ సాంగ్ చిన్న బిట్ మాత్రమే సినిమాలో ఉంటుంది. దానికి సంబంధించిన విజువల్ స్క్రీన్ మీద కూడా అద్భుతంగా వచ్చింది. ఏఆర్ రెహమాన్ బ్యాక్‌గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. రవివర్మన్ కెమెరా పనితనం అద్భుతం అని చెప్పాలి. రూ. 500 కోట్ల బడ్జెట్‌తో ఈ సినిమా రూపొందినట్లు వార్తలు వచ్చాయి. తెర మీద మాత్రం అంత ఖర్చు కనిపించదు.

ఇక నటీనటుల విషయానికి వస్తే... అందరివీ కీలక పాత్రలే కానీ నటనకు స్కోప్ ఉన్నది మాత్రం ఆదిత్య కరికాలుడు, నందిని పాత్రలకే. విక్రమ్, ఐశ్వర్యరాయ్ ఈ పాత్రలకు ప్రాణం పోశారు. పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్, వందియ దేవుడు, నందిని పాత్రలు కథలో కీలకమే కానీ ఆ పాత్రలకు ఎమోషన్స్ పండించే సీన్లు పడలేదు. త్రిష, కార్తీల మధ్య వచ్చే లవ్ సీన్‌లో ఇద్దరూ బాగా నటించారు. మిగతా నటీనటులంతా పాత్రల పరిధి మేర నటించారు.

ఓవరాల్‌గా చెప్పాలంటే... మొదటి భాగంతో పోలిస్తే ‘పొన్నియిన్ సెల్వన్ 2’ కచ్చితంగా బెటర్ సినిమానే. కానీ సెకండాఫ్ మీద మరింత కాన్సన్‌ట్రేట్ చేసి ఉంటే మంచి సినిమా అయి ఉండేది. హిస్టారికల్, పీరియాడికల్ మూవీస్‌ను ఇష్టపడేవారు మాత్రం కచ్చితంగా డిజప్పాయింట్ అవ్వరు.

The first part of "Ponniyan Selvan" did not create much impact in Telugu, but the original Tamil version broke box office records, and Tamilians embraced the film wholeheartedly. Now, the second and final part of the movie is here.

Let's analyze it.

Story: Part 2 picks up the story where Part 1 left off. Arul Mozhi (Jayam Ravi) and Vanthiya Devudu (Karthi) are both still alive in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) plots Aditya Karikaludu's (Vikram) murder and sends him a message to meet her at her palace.

Vanthiya Devudu travels to Nandini's palace to rescue Aditya upon learning of her plan, while Arul Mozhi embarks on his return journey to the Chozha kingdom from Sri Lanka.

Will Nandini succeed in killing Aditya? Will Arul Mozhi ascend to the throne and become king?

Artistes’ Performances: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays two characters: Mandikini, an elderly woman, and Nandini. Aishwarya Rai excels in the role of Nandini. She brilliantly conveys both love and hatred for Vikram. Her beauty and performance are both appealing.

Vikram gives an outstanding performance as an erratic prince. In two scenes, he stands out: one with his brother and sister and the other with Aishwarya at her palace. 

All of the characters from the first installment return, but with the exception of  Mandakini character of Aishwarya Rao which did not get enough screen time.

Among others, Jayam Ravi, who plays the title character, shines. He is ideal for the role of King. Trisha is fine. So is Karthi.

Technical Excellence: AR Rahman's songs don't add much, but his background score is fantastic. The cinematography is superb. Ravi Varman's lighting scheme is fantastic. Editing is adequate. The production design is impressive.

Analysis The first part of 'Ponniyan Selvan' was a blockbuster hit in Tamil Nadu, but the rest of India was unimpressed due to the dense plot with multiple characters and relationships that were hard to follow. However, the sequel does not have that issue as it picks up from where the first part left off, focusing on the romantic story of Vikram and Aishwarya Rai before delving into the main drama of Nandini and Aditya's relationship and the Chola kingdom's succession battle.

Compared to the first part, 'Ponniyan Selvan 2' solely concentrates on the central plot, making it more accessible and interesting for Telugu audiences. The film features some excellent sequences, including Jayam Ravi being protected by Buddhist monks and the thrilling duel between Vikram and Aishwarya Rai. Additionally, a standout moment is the scene on an island between blindfolded Karthi and Trisha, which showcases director Mani Ratnam's signature style.

The film's strengths are its camera work, outstanding performances, and straightforward screenplay. However, it suffers from a slow-paced narrative, overstretched sequences, and unimpressive songs. The final battle scene is also tedious.

Overall, 'Ponniyan Selvan 2' is a decent sequel to watch, with a focused narrative and strong performances from its lead cast. It is a better experience than the first part for non-Tamil audiences.

Bottom line: Okay watch

Fans sing praises for PS-2 after it's release in cinema halls on April 28. Some even called it better than Bahubali 2.

The much talked about sequel of 2022 Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 is out and it seems to be competing with its predecessor in terms of reception from the audience. The release of PS-2 has really amped up the fans and those who happened to catch the first screenings of the film are singing praises on social media. Some even called it bigger than SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2.

Ponniyin Selvan is adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s widely acclaimed novel Ponniyin Selvan (The Son of Ponni) and boasts star-studded cast members such as Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi. Additionally, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi also feature in the film. AR Rahman, Sreekar Prasad, and Ravi Varman are among the technical crew working on the movie as the composer, editor, and cinematographer, respectively. The next part of the movie has finally hit the theatres on April 28.

On the other hand, Ponniyin Selvan broke several box office records upon it’s release. The film managed to amass Rs 500 crore gross and went on to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022, the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and the 15th highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Additionally, it also bagged six nominations at the 16th Asian Film Awards, including Best Film.

Kalki Krishnamurthy’s five-part novel series Ponniyin Selvan is adapted into film with the same name by maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam and made into two parts. The film has a stellar cast – Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu. While the first part drew mixed reception in Telugu, let’s delve into the second part and find out.

Madhurantaka Chola (Rahman) wants to take over the reigns of Chola dynasty against his parents will. Pedda Paluvettaraiya along with Samanta kings conspire against Aditya Karikala (Vikram) to dethrone him and grab the Chola dynasty. Aditya is in shock of Arun Moli aka Ponniyin Selvan’s feared death in sea tragedy. Huge relief comes with the safe return of Arun Moli. Spy Vallavaraya (Karthi) plays a crucial role in this. But Aditya vows to take revenge against the people behind the conspiracy against Arun Moli.

Pandyas with the help of Paluvur Queen Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) hatch a plan to eliminate Chola Kings – Sundar Chola (Prakash Raj), Aditya Karikala (Vikram) and Arun Moli aka Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi). Nandini being Aditya’s former lover, he could not say no when she invited him to Kadambur. Despite knowing that Nandini conspired against his murder, Aditya Karikala goes to Kadambur where he dies. The story is all about how Arun Moli and Vallavaraya (Karthi) wipe out the enemies and retain the Chola dynasty.

Performances

Ponniyin Selvan 2 has an ensemble cast and their brilliant performances. Of all, Vikram and Karthi deliver knockout performances as Aditya Karikala and Vallavaraya. While Vikram shows myriad emotions involving anger, love and sadness, Karthi’s role too goes through various ups and downs. His character has a funny side but there is a depth and motive behind his words, actions. From loyalist to the King to becoming suspect in King’s murder, his character journey is nice. Jayam Ravi is decent in titular role Ponniyin Selvan. The story revolves around his character.

Aishwarya Rai lives up to her charm and high expectations of her. Her character Nandini has negative shades and she pulls it off well. She is seen in a dual role. Aishwarya also plays aged woman and speech-impaired Mandakini, mother of Nandini. She does justice to both the roles. Sobhitha Dhulipala is alright as princess Vanathi who is the love interest of Prince Arun Moli. However, she has very little scope to perform. Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poongulali also has brief portion, but she delivers what is expected of her.

Vikram Prabhu turns Parthi Sarathkumar as Pedda Paluvettaraiya got an important role and he does a decent job. Parthiban as Chinna Paluvettaraiya gets sidelined in this vast story. Prakash Raj as patriarch Sundara Chola sticks to his usual style but makes the impact. Jayaram as spy Nambi shines in his portions and different get-ups. Rahman as Madhurantaka is okay and Ashwin Kakumanu as Senthan gets only a couple of scenes with his love interest Poongulali (Aishwarya Lekshmi). Overall, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has talented actors who gave praise-worthy performances.

Technicalities

Critically-acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam makes this epic into a rich and grandeur tale on screen with high technical values. Cinematographer Ravi Varman brings life with impressive visuals and picturesque locales. AR Rahman’s background score heightens the impact of the visuals. VFX work is impressive. Editor Srikar Prasad shows his editing skills.

Lack Of High Moments Slow Narration More Drama, Less Action

Ponniyin Selvan is an epic whose story is well-known in the public domain and came out as a five-part novel. When it is being adapted on to the big screen, it naturally has its advantages and mammoth challenges for director Mani Ratnam. The whole story of Ponniyin Selvan happens between 3 forts – Thanjavur fort, Kadambur fort and Palayarai fort. But to understand and enjoy Mani Ratnam’s PS 2 on the big screen, one must be aware of the story and its characters prior. For those who already know or read the Ponniyin Selvan novel, the film narration is like a cakewalk. For the unknown, it is indeed challenging.

The film begins with the childhood episodes of Aditya Karikala and Nandini which acts as base for the Ponniyin Selvan 2. The love story of Aditya and Nandini is crucial which is unraveled in the latter half of the film. Who is Nandini and what is her real identity and who is her father have a great interconnection to the proceedings. Why Nandini is owned by Pandyas and why she wants to take revenge against Cholas is depicted well.

The characters, drama unfolding, underlying emotions are herculean tasks to deal with. This is where an experienced filmmaker like Mani tried to keep it as simple as possible with his story-telling. Instead of focusing more on action, he rather played it on emotion and drama. The era of Cholas is well created. He made audiences transport into the Chola dynasty. This is the major victory of the director.

The pre-interval episode and climax sequences are well-made. The scenes between Vikram and Aishwarya Rai are the soul for the film. There is a scene where Vikram addresses Pedda Paluvettaraiya and his Queen Nandini. The expressions of Aishwarya deserve special mention. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai shine and Karthi walks away with laurels in this whole epic. Dialogues penned by Tanikella Bharani are good. Karthi’s funny one-liners bring cheers even in a serious situation.

What bothers Ponniyin Selvan is its slow narration. The film is lengthy but it has honesty. The soul of the film is intact. Definitely, Mani Ratnam took some cinematic liberties in order to narrate such a large tale within the film’s run-time. It also suffers with predictability at portions since the story is well-known. But Mani Ratnam managed to maintain the curiosity throughout on how it happened. This is where the filmmaker and his team scored. He has got strong support from technicians. Ravi Varman’s camera work and AR Rahman’s background score are the two pillars of PS 2.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a one-time watch. It is recommended for those who love kings, dynasties, history and drama. The first part may not appealed to many, but the second part has got better and ends on decent note.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 resumes the story from where it ended in part one. Nandini’s (Aishwarya Rai) plan to end the Chola Empire by killing the heirs reaches its concluding stages as she makes the final moves.

Did Nandini succeed with her plans? Why did she intend to kill the Chola heirs in the first place? The answers to these form Ponniyin Selvan 2’ core plot.

Performances The primary cast of Ponniyin Selvan Part One remains in the second. Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha lead from the front playing vital roles. Only the screen time varies here according to the story.

The second part is primarily an emotional drama as each character goes through an arc, putting them under or overcoming dire circumstances. The fun quotient is less for the same reason. Vikram nails his part with ease and effortlessly presents the pain and anguish of a crown prince who feels betrayed in love.

Aishwarya Rai gets the more prominent role in the second part among all the actors. She looks ethereal and conveys the moral dilemma well. She also has a dual role, an old woman part, and is alright in it.

The most awaited Vikram and Aishwarya Rai confrontation scenes have come out well, presenting all the tension and anguish neatly.

Karthi’s character isn’t as fun as it was in part one. His role has more drama, and he goes about the proceedings clinically in his style. Jayam Ravi shines in a couple of emotional moments, highlighting his character. And finally, Trisha is good, but relatively she doesn’t have the bigger moments like in the first outing.

The legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam director Ponniyin Selvan 2. It is the concluding second part of Ponniyin Selvan, based on the namesake epic novels written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. 

Ponniyin Selvan 2 resumes from where it left off at the end of part 1. The heirs of Cholas are under attack, and the messenger to save the kingdom from doom is captured. It is this intriguing story that holds the attention from the start. 

The issues from part one resurface, like the slow pace. However, the neatly staged drama by the excellent eclectic cast holds the attention. It also helps that we already know many of these characters. 

Despite knowing many of the roles, and the slow pace, one is still lost sometimes concerning the characters, and the plot shows how dense the narrative is. It remains the biggest issue with the two-part films. 

The narrative is drama-driven out and out, with many face-offs and (mildly) charged moments. There are no highs dramatically, though, as they are done understatedly. The closest thing to that feeling comes around the interval mark when there is a small twist. 

Post intermission, the drama resumes as we move to critical moments in the story. The second half is where the emotions roll out as a few threads reach their closure. The Vikram-Aishwarya Rai one is the most prominent one among them. Both actors nail their parts, which helps the narrative. 

All the drama leads to a final big battle for the throne. A huge war scene is shot neatly but without too much high. This and the lack of conclusion to the threads of some popular characters leave one a little unsatisfied at the end. 

Overall, Ponniyin Selvan 2 holds attention despite all the issues to those who are already connected to the characters and the world. The scale, ambition and casting make the movie a one-time watch with the right expectations set in from the start.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a vast canvas movie with multiple actors essaying bits and pieces roles. We have Prakash Raj , Jayaram, Parthiban, Rahman, Shobita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Lal etc., playing small but vital roles. They are fine in their respective parts and make the narrative come alive as a whole.

AR Rahman’s music fits the mood and narrative even though they don’t inspire much confidence outside. The background score is relatively more in the local zone than the western one (sound-wise) compared to the previous part.

Ravi Varman’s cinematography is top-notch. The lighting and images enhance the naturalistic feel of the proceedings. The editing is decent, considering the enormity at hand here. A lot is condensed from the novels, and simultaneously it is fitted into a regular movie runtime. There is not much action barring a war sequence at the end. The action choreography is on the expected lines. The writing is good and helps one easily navigate through the proceedings.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is a slow-paced, drama-driven film that works for those familiar with the characters and the setting. The sense of conclusion, although not entirely satisfying, overrides the issues. Mani Ratnam delivers in his style, provided one has the right expectations.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie Review: An Exceptionally Intimate Epic That Thrives When It’s Not Chasing Bigness

It’s the intimacy of  Ponniyin Selvan 2  that is likely to be remembered for longer than its many stretches of spectacle or grandeur. Right from the start, which opens with a detailed flashback that takes us to young Nandini and Adhita Karikalan, we’re reminded that the stakes may be high with the fate of an entire kingdom left hanging, but the priority is always to address deeply personal matters of the heart. The cliffhanger at the end of the first film might not have been a shocking endpoint but the new film takes its own time to get back there because it wants to be rooted in the individual politics of its characters before it reaches the larger politics of the State. 

If the first film only had so much room to go into the specifics of these relationships, given how we first needed to be introduced to these characters,  PS2  thrives on the collective affection/resentment we now feel for them. This gives rise to a series of parallels in the new film which eclipse similar moments from the first. This could be something light and playful like the many times Vandhiyathevan ( Karthi ) runs into Alwarkkadiyan (a hilarious Jayaram) in the weirdest of places or the absolute joy of romance when Vandhiyathevan meets Kundavai (delightful Trisha ) again, this time in a tiny heart-shaped islet (their first meeting was on water too and Vandhiyathevan’s face is covered on both occasions). 

Yet this feeling of familiarity does not fully prepare you for the impact these characters leave you with at the end of the film. The full extent of this is only felt when you analyse the whirlwind of emotions as we go through the many stages of Nandini’s ( Aishwarya Rai ) complex relationship with Adhita Karikalan (Vikram). At first, we may not have understood their respective heartbreaks and the madness it has led them to, yet the novel’s two most fascinating characters get their full arc and the sort of closure befitting two lovers constantly separated by fate. In fact, the soul of  PS2  is dependant so much on this relationship that we feel a void whenever we switch to another chapter or when the focus shifts to other people. 

What makes  PS2  a special film is how we’re always accepting of these characters for who they are as regular people, devoid of the stature their positions come with. Instead of constantly placing them at a pedestal as royalty or as warriors with their lives at stake, the film is capable of showing us a side to them that other films of this scale rarely get to. This is perhaps why the best scene in the film has nothing to do with the kingdom, a throne or an army. It is simply the most private of moments inside a small room within a monastery in which three siblings simply hug (the choreography of this intimate moment is exquisite). It is when this moment hits you that you realise how we’ve invested close to two full films before these siblings finally get to meet and Rahman’s music in this stretch, with a hint of melancholy, also suggests how there may not be another moment such as this.

This is also what makes it exciting to observe how the first film was so different in spirit from  PS2 . If the highlight of the first film included brilliant scenes such as the one in which Kundavai dismantles an entire conspiracy with one clever tactic, the second film dwells on the vulnerabilities of the same individuals, none of whom are at their tactical best. Kundavai fails as a tactician, the same way in which Vandhiyathevan fails as a protector; Nandini fails in her mission much like how Karikalan remains a slave to his past. 

All of these complexities lead us to a terrific character study rather than just remain a visual spectacle (Ravi Varman’s cinematography is expectedly unforgettable) meant to display splendour. When these larger-than-life moments click into place, like a thrilling action block that involves Karthi stumbling down a tall bamboo structure, there is a lot of fun to be had. But for the most part, it is these action set pieces that remain underwhelming later on when the complex conflicts need to be set aside for the resolutions. This is felt strongest in a long stretch that follows a major scene involving Karikalan and Nandini. Without a moment to pause, and with so many major events that happen one after another, this major battle rushes us into a space that is not just emotionally draining but also flat as an action sequence. 

The smooth flow of events in the first half and the complexity of an entire machinery working against the three siblings get diluted as the film rushes past major events later on in the film. A shocking revelation involving Sundara Chola ( Prakash Raj ) and another significant character does not leave you with a moment to reflect. If you’ve read the novels and have lived with these characters for days, you feel you deserve a second to fully absorb the gravity of this information. And if you’re discovering this detail afresh, the film’s pace is such that it remains a mere twist without giving us the space to place it in context and the impact it has on other characters.

But with long stretches of intense interpersonal drama before that, the second film takes us into deeper spaces that remain constantly engaging and consistently rewarding. And even if we find the film moving towards a need to impress with its brute force, it has already given us moments of sensitivity that will remain with us long after the battles. Who else but Mani Ratnam to redefine the term ‘epic’ to mean the hugeness of one’s emotions than the hugeness of budget.

The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s five-part novel series of the same name. Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 covered one-third of the novel series and the rest is expected to be told in the second part.

From the trailer of Ponniyin Selvan 2, we already know that Vikram’s Karikalan is offered to rule half of the Chola kingdom and for the other half, a new crown prince has been announced after the apparent death of Ponniyin Selvan. However, Jayam Ravi, who plays the titular character, is shown to be alive.

Ponniyin Selvan 1 received mixed reviews. But the film did a smashing business at the ticket counter, minting over Rs 480 crore globally.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 marks the fifth collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after Iruvar, Ravan, Guru, and Ponniyin Selvan 1.

When asked if Aishwarya is his lucky charm, the filmmaker said during a press conference, “Filmmakers are very selfish people. Absolutely heartless and selfish, the only thing they care for is the film. However much I love her, I ask her only if I think she is right for the role. Every time I have asked her is because I have believed that she was absolutely right for the role and she has been nice enough to say yes. So, she is not just a lucky charm for me, it is her talent and her personality that was right to portray this character.”

In an earlier interview during the promotion of Ponniyin Selvan 2, Jayam Ravi said playing the title role was a “big responsibility”.

“Down south, this is an epitome of a character. They look at him as God, the ruler of the rulers, that’s why Rajaraja means ‘king of kings’. Mani sir called me and said ‘I don’t worry about other characters…’ what he meant was ‘I can handle every other character, but (in) this you have to bring something. You go and live as Rajaraja Chola for six months,” he shared.

Like PS1 PS2 is also long and there are some stretches especially the action sequences in which fatigue sets in despite the duration the screenplay isn’t able to make space for key Revelations to sink in and some characters don’t get enough play like vanity played by shobhita dulipala or the boat woman bungali played by Aishwarya Lakshmi she was so formidable in the first film but gets lost here however PS2 does give Aishwarya Rai Bachchan one of her careers besters

The story of the sequel is very interesting and although it does get confusing at places, it is not as difficult to understand as the first part. The human dramas in the sequel are more interesting, engaging and compelling. The screenplay, written by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel, is pretty interesting. There are so many twists and turns that the audiences eyes remain glued to the screen. Also, the drama moves at a very fast pace, not letting boredom creep in at any stage. On the whole, Ponniyin Selvan-2 is a lovely entertainer and will do well in Hindi. Its Tamil version will prove to be a hit.

In fairness, the climactic portions are hugely impacted by this emotional high, as the events that follow Karikalan’s death cannot match the suspense and the drama the narrative held until then. And Mani Ratnam seems to realise this too, and decides to have a war scene in the end to amp up the drama to give us an adrenaline rush. But the more underwhelming moment is the climax. Even in Kalki’s book, we get a rather low-key ending, with one too many twists, but here, while the writers sensibly give us a more agreeable twist, they fail to pack a punch with the speech that Arulmozhi delivers in the end to make the ultimate sacrifice.

For someone who didnt like Ponniyin Selvan 1, Part 2 came in as a massive shift and a beautiful surprise, mostly because Ratnam has a love saga to tell here at the helm of a story about a reigning house.Ponniyin Selvan 2 works like a brilliant compensation for sitting through a scattered part 1. There is so much to grasp here and a Ratnam brand lethal love saga in the centre of it all LLP. You must invest in this one.

After watching Ponniyin Selvan 2, one can say that the first part was Manis way of introducing and establishing the epic, where he didnt shy away from using screen time for lavish song sequences. In the second part, he is bolder and deviates majorly from the books. Here, Mani Ratnam, the filmmaker, is more faithful to his craft than to the written material. This makes Ponniyin Selvan 2 better cinema, and superior to its first part.

Having watched both films now, I feel Ponniyin Selvan deserved a tad more depth, given the various characters and plotlines. The two-part series could have been explored as a grand web series of sorts, something similar to Game of Thrones, or even as a three-part film series, allowing the characters to be fleshed out fully and letting people pick their favourites. Overall, when Ponniyin Selvan was announced, it appeared like a great door-opener for those who werent aware of the five-part novel. However, the two-part series concludes as a great cinematic experience that fell short on storytelling.

All the drama leads to a final big battle for the throne. A huge war scene is shot neatly but without too much high. This and the lack of conclusion to the threads of some popular characters leave one a little unsatisfied at the end. Overall, Ponniyin Selvan 2 holds attention despite all the issues to those who are already connected to the characters and the world. The scale, ambition and casting make the movie a one-time watch with the right expectations set in from the start.

( Spoiler-free review ) The first ended with Pandiya rebels taking an oath to spill royal blood and Chola chieftains planning a mutiny against their own. The stage was set with the question of whether the next king will be prince Aditya Kariklan or the hermit Prince Arunmozhi or their estranged uncle Madhuranthakan or Pandiya rebel Amarabujanga.

Writing and Direction

The epic writing by Amarar Kalki weaves a web of conspiracies, mysteries, political turmoil, and impending war with an element of surprise and shock at every step of the way. Mani Ratnam took the burden of huge responsibility on his shoulders to do justice to the epic Tamil novel. The narration pace is not hurried as more knots unfold with unexpected twists and turns. The master admirably delivers a sure-fire winner cautiously and confidently in a self-assured manner.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 faced unfair comparisons to Baahubali . The fans of the novel came in with an expectation that may have been different from the director's vision. The bold decision to set the pace, tone, and mood of the first half part helped clear up all the noise. In the second part, Maniratnam could operate with more creative space to deliver a fitting finale that Amarar Kalki would have been proud of.

Even though Ponniyin Selvan is touted as a multi-starrer, every character plays a part and the success of the movie is when you forget the stardom of these artists. For example, in the scene when Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha share the screen space, you will not hear whistles as the gravity of the scene will keep you glued.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in an author-backed and director-backed role has two of the best emotional scenes in the second part. Every bit of cinematic element comes together to elevate Aishwarya Rai's arguably career-best role.

Every character makes a mark and special place irrespective of screen time. Not a single character was wasted or compromised due to the movie's length. Again, this shows the confidence of Mani Ratnam to give enough breathing space between scenes. The scenes do not feel rushed and as a result, every character gets a moment under the spotlight.

Technicalities

The success of the technical department lies in the fact that you will not break away from the movie to appreciate it. They all blend in seamlessly. Be it AR Rahman's solid background score or the songs. Exceptional art design work (Thotta Tharani) with minute care and detailing for Cholas and Pandyas. The costume design (Eka Lakhani, Chandrakanth Sonawane) and numerous actors who grew their facial hair irrespective of how far back they will be standing in a scene. The computer graphics are used in a subtle and effective way without standing out. Again, a conscious decision to not fall for the comparisons and expectations.

Ponniyin Selvan will be a magnum opus in many ways. Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2 will go down in history for reasons beyond just box office collections.

Ponniyin Selvan team has done their part. Now do your part. Go watch it in theaters.

చిత్ర అర‌వింద్ (సిద్ధార్థ్‌) ఓ యూట్యూబ‌ర్‌. అవినీతి, లంచ‌గొండి ఆఫీస‌ర్ల అక్ర‌మాల‌ను రెడ్ హ్యాండెడ్‌గా బ‌య‌ట‌పెడుతుంటాడు. సామాన్యుల‌కు జ‌రిగిన అన్యాయాల‌ను త‌మ ఛానెల్ ద్వారా వెలుగులోకి తీసుకొస్తుంటాడు. యూట్యూబ్ ఛానెల్ కారణంగా అర‌వింద్‌, అర్తి (ప్రియా భ‌వానీ శంక‌ర్‌) టీమ్‌కు శ‌త్రువులు పెరిగిపోతారు.వారి జీవితాలు చిక్కుల్లో ప‌డ‌తాయి. ఈ ప‌రిస్థితుల్లో మార్పు రావాలంటే భార‌తీయుడు మ‌ళ్లీ రావాల‌ని ప్ర‌జ‌లు కోరుకుంటారు. చైనీస్ తైపే నుంచి ఇండియాకు వ‌స్తాడు సేనాప‌తి.

క‌మ‌ర్షియ‌ల్ సినిమాలు తీయ‌డంలో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు శంక‌ర్‌కు ప్ర‌త్యేక‌మైన శైలి ఉంది. తొలి సినిమా జెంటిల్‌మెన్ నుంచి 2.ఓ వ‌ర‌కు ప్ర‌తి సినిమాలో ఏదో ఒక సామాజిక స‌మ‌స్య‌ను ట‌చ్ చేస్తూ వ‌చ్చారు శంక‌ర్‌. ఈ సోష‌ల్ ఇష్యూకు క‌మ‌ర్షియ‌ల్ హంగుల‌ను, టెక్నాల‌జీని జోడించి ఆడియెన్స్‌ను మెస్మ‌రైజ్ చేస్తుంటాడు శంక‌ర్‌.

భార‌తీయుడు 2లో అదే ఫార్ములా...

భార‌తీయుడు 2 (Bharateeyudu 2 Review)ఆ కోవ‌కు చెందిన సినిమానే. భార‌తీయుడు సినిమాలోని సేనాప‌తి క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌ను ప్ర‌ధానంగా తీసుకొని నేటి ట్రెండ్‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగా ఈ సీక్వెల్‌ను చేయాల‌ని శంక‌ర్ అనుకున్నారు. ఇండియ‌న్ క‌ల్ట్ క్లాసిక్‌గా నిల‌వ‌డం, అందులో సేనాప‌తిగా క‌మ‌ల్ హాస‌న్ న‌ట విశ్వ‌రూపం కార‌ణంగా ఇండియ‌న్ 2 కోసం తెలుగు, త‌మిళ ఆడియెన్స్ చాలా ఏళ్లుగా ఆస‌క్తిగా ఎదురుచూశారు. ఆ ఎదురుచూపుల‌కు త‌గ్గ ఫ‌లితం మాత్రం ద‌క్క‌లేదు. ఇండియ‌న్ మ్యాజిక్‌ను సీక్వెల్ తో అందించ‌లేక‌పోయాడు శంక‌ర్‌.

త‌మ‌కున్న అధికారాల‌ను అడ్డంపెట్టుకొని కొంద‌రు నాయ‌కులు ప్ర‌జ‌ల‌ను ఎలా దోచుకుంటున్నారు, బ్యాంకుల‌కు కోట్ల రూపాయ‌ల‌ను ఎగ‌వేస్తూ ఎలా స్వేచ్ఛ‌గా తిరుగుతున్నార‌నే అంశాల‌తో భార‌తీయుడు క‌థ‌ను రాసుకున్నాడు శంక‌ర్. విజయ్ మాల్యా లాంటి అవినీతి పరుల జీవితాల‌ను కొన్ని పాత్ర‌ల ద్వారా చ‌ర్చించ‌డం బాగుంది.

ముఖ్యంగా త‌ల్లిదండ్రులు అవినీతి, అక్ర‌మాల‌కు పాల్ప‌డ‌కుండా యువ‌త అడ్డుకుంటే స‌మాజం బాగుప‌డుతుంద‌నే పాయింట్‌ను సందేశాత్మ‌కంగా ఈ సినిమాలో చూపించాల‌ని శంక‌ర్ అనుకున్నారు. పేప‌ర్‌పై పెట్టిన ఆలోచ‌న‌ల‌ను స్క్రీన్‌పై తీసుకురావ‌డంలో శంక‌ర్ త‌డ‌బ‌డిన‌ట్లుగా అనిపిస్తోంది. సినిమా క‌థ‌లో ఎమోష‌న‌ల్ క‌నెక్టివీటి లేక‌పోవ‌డంలో భార‌తీయుడు 2 (Bharateeyudu 2 Review)మొత్తం మిస్ ఫైర్ అయిన ఫీలింగ్ క‌లుగుతుంది.

దేశంలో పేరుకుపోయిన అవినీతి, అక్ర‌మాల‌ను చ‌ర్చిస్తూ ఇండియ‌న్ 2 సినిమాను ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా ఆరంభించారు శంక‌ర్‌. క‌మ్ బ్యాక్ ఇండియ‌న్‌ అనే హ్యాష్ ట్యాగ్ ట్రెండ్ అయిన‌ట్లుగా చూపించి క‌మ‌ల్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌ను స్క్రీన్‌పై చూపించారు. బ్యాంకు రుణాల‌ను ఎగ‌వేసి విదేశాల్లోజ‌ల్సాలు చేస్తోన్న ఓ వ్యాపారిని అంతం చేసే యాక్ష‌న్‌ సీన్ తో కమ‌ల్ ఎంట్రీ ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. అక్క‌డి నుంచే క‌థాగ‌మ‌నం మొత్తం రొటీన్‌గా మారిపోయింది.

ఒక్కో అవినీతి ప‌రుడిని క‌మ‌ల్ అంతం చేసుకుంటూ వెళ్లిపోవ‌డం, వాటిని పార్ట్ పార్ట్‌లుగా చూపించుకుంటూ వెళ్లిపోయారు శంక‌ర్‌. సిద్ధార్థ్ అతడి తండ్రి ఎపిసోడ్.... తెలుగులో చిరంజీవి ఠాగూర్ మూవీలోని ఓ సీన్ ను గుర్తుకు తెస్తుంది. మ‌ద‌ర్ సెంటిమెంట్ సీన్స్‌ను మ‌రింత డెప్త్‌గా రాసుకుంటే బాగుండేది. క్లైమాక్స్ యాక్ష‌న్ ఎపిసోడ్ భారీగా ప్లాన్ చేశారు శంక‌ర్‌. కానీ లెంగ్త్ ఎక్కువ అయిన ఫీలింగ్ క‌లుగుతుంది. పార్ట్ 3కి సంబంధించి క‌మ‌ల్‌, కాజ‌ల్‌పై వ‌చ్చే అప్‌డేట్ మాత్రం గూస్‌బంప్స్‌ను క‌లిగించింది.

సేనాప‌తిగా న‌ట విశ్వ‌రూపం...

సేనాప‌తిగా క‌మ‌ల్ హాస‌న్ యాక్టింగ్‌కు ఎలాంటి వంకా పెట్ట‌లేం. యాక్ష‌న్ తో పాటు త‌న డైలాగ్ డెలివ‌రీతో అద‌ర‌గొట్టాడు. అయితే క‌మ‌ల్ హాస‌న్ లుక్ విష‌యంలో శంక‌ర్ అండ్ టీమ్ జాగ్ర‌త్త‌లు తీసుకుంటే బాగుండేది. ఈ సీక్వెల్‌లో క‌మ‌ల్ హాస‌న్ కంటే సిద్ధార్థ్ ఎక్కువ సేపు స్క్రీన్‌పై క‌నిపిస్తాడు.

ఎమోష‌న‌ల్ సీన్స్‌లో సిద్ధార్థ్ మెప్పించాడు. సిద్ధార్థ్ తండ్రిగా స‌ముద్ర‌ఖ‌ని న‌ట‌న బాగుంది. ప్రియా భ‌వానీ శంక‌ర్‌, ర‌కుల్ ప్రీత్ సింగ్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్స్ రొటీన్‌గా ఉన్నాయి. భార‌తీయుడులోని న‌డిముడి వేణు క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌తో సీక్వెల్‌లో బాబీ సింహా పాత్ర‌కు లింగ్ చేయ‌డం ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. భార‌తీయుడు సినిమాకు ఏఆర్ రెహ‌మాన్ బీజీఎమ్, పాట‌లు ప్ల‌స‌య్యాయి. సీక్వెల్‌కు మ్యూజిక్ మైన‌స్‌గా మారింది. అనిరుధ్ బీజీఎమ్ ప‌వ‌ర్ క‌నిపించ‌లేదు. పాట‌లు సినిమా లెంగ్త్‌ను పెంచ‌డానికే ఉప‌యోగ‌ప‌డ్డాయి.
