Select the type and color of the paper to use when you print out your student planner template. You may also want to think about the type of template to use to organize all the information you need for school. After choosing and downloading a template, either customize it according to your needs or use it as it is.
After printing out the sheets of your daily, monthly or weekly homework planner, arrange the sheets in the order you want them to appear in your binder or notebook. Think about how you plan to use the sheets of your planner to find the perfect arrangement.
Organizing the different sections of your template allows you to keep all of your similar sheets for planning in one place. This is what successful planners to and it’s what allows you to remain flexible as you deal with your daily tasks.

Standard notebook

Decorate the notebook by starting with the cover. Use paint, stickers, and other craft supplies to do this.
Divide the notebook into how many sections you need for your planner. Think about how many sections you need then think about how many pages of the notebook you need for each of the sections.
Label the sections either by hand or using printed labels. You can also decorate the label covers of the notebook as you may see fit.

Select the binder to use for your homework planner. In your selection process, consider the size of the banner. If you need a lot of space for your planning, you may choose a bigger binder. However, a smaller one is a lot easier to carry around. Therefore, considering the size is very important.
Think about the planning method you’d like to use. You can have daily, weekly or monthly planning or to-do lists . Using a binder is a lot easier, especially in terms of adding new sections when you need them.
Print out the homework or student planner templates you need after downloading or designing them. You can either use the templates you’ve downloaded or customize them as needed.
Insert all of the planning sheets and dividers into your binder. As you insert these sheets, separate them using standard dividers to make it easier for you to find the different sections. Using dividers also makes it easier for you to label the different sections for better organization.

#1 School Assignment Organization App

I am currently a sophomore in college and have been using this app since my sophomore year in high school. I cannot even imagine how i would stay organized without it. It is so easy to see what assignments need to be turned in, and i can also see my schedule day by day. I also uplaod pictures of needed pages in my textbook so i do not have to bring it home with me. The schools i have not had teachers that use the app to post assignments and it has still been very benneficial to me. you can fully use the app for free, but i choose to pay the annual fee which is very affordable at around just $5 i beleive. You can also sync your classes and assignments to your icloud calendar so it is all visible on your iphone. everything syncronizes easily between my devices and can even be accessed online from a school computer. In college i have gone to complete paperless work, where i have all my textbooks and nots on my ipad, and when i need to turn in an assignment i just print it off after completing it on my ipad. This app really helps with that where i can easily track all assignments that i have due right on my ipad, along with my notes and textbooks. I tried multiple different homework tracking apps and this is by far the best on the market.

Most useful app on Mac and iPhone

Mid-semester this spring, I had to reorganize my classes before starting two condensed courses on March 23. I searched for an app that would act as a digital homework planner with a clean interface, reminders, satisfying check boxes to click after completing assignments. Every traditional planner I’ve ever bought has ended up in the recycle bin so I figured it might be time to take my academics into the 21st century with some sort of organizer app geared specifically toward school. I found exactly that. This little widget has made my life exponentially more manageable and productive. The free version can do pretty much everything I would need it to do in order to stay organized. When I found out that the paid subscription is $4.99 for a year, I bought it to unlock the additional features like uploading documents, personalize the theme, but most importantly to support the developers who designed this app that has added much more than $4.99 of value to my life. I Love It, But...

I really enjoy this app - I use it everyday as HS student to keep organized with my classes. It has great features (I love the calendar, how you can preview your month with the tasks you've already put in, etc...) and I also enjoy the themes. The thing I love the most is the way it syncs between my iPhone and my Mac, so I can have my calendar everywhere! I plan to use this in college when I graduate at the end of this year. My only complaints are that it sometimes goes through phases of crashing (which can be so frustrating when you're trying to punch a deadline in as soon as the teacher verbally announces it in the middle of a lecture!), and the fact that you don't have the option to separate your tasks by time. By this I mean, just like in the previous homework app I used, it doesn't separate tasks by week, two weeks, three weeks, month, etc. I just feel like it would be more organized and nicer looking this way. When I have 6 tasks for the upcoming week and 3 that are over a month away in one place, it makes me feel cluttered - constantly reminding myself that "Oh, that isn't due until-" is a slight nuisance. May just be me but I'd love the option to organize things better in that way!

If you’re a parent, you know how incredibly overwhelming it can be for students to stay on top of studying and all other homework assignments.

Especially when they’re juggling multiple classes.

Due dates can pile up quickly if they aren’t staying organized and managing their time wisely.

However, there is a tool that can be quite helpful – A printable homework planner! You’ll find a few different styles below.

Weekly homework planners

These free printables will help students plan and track all their assignments for each day of the week.

They can write down the class, a description of the homework assignment, and when it’s due. Once it’s completed it, check “done” and move on to the next!

I recommend printing a few copies at a time. Encourage your middle schooler or high schooler to keep one in their binder.

Monthly homework calendars

In addition to weekly planners , older students may benefit from a blank homework calendar as well.

It’s nice to have a bird’s-eye view of each month.

Monthly assignment and exam trackers

A good study planner is a key to academic success. It allows you to be in charge of your schedule and tasks rather than just reacting (and usually in a panic) as things come up or you happen to remember them. I’m a professional organizer , parent educator and mom of three. I know that using a school planner increases academic success for students of all ages. Studies have shown that the act of writing tasks down helps your brain process the task and remember it much better.

I’m personally a big fan of planners and bullet journals . Writing tasks down helps you process them differently than when you type them or speak them into an app. The physical act of writing aids your brain in processing/understanding the task and in remembering it. If you’re a visual learner, seeing the task written down also help you remember it better.

Think of your phone or computer – what happens when you have too many apps or too many windows open? The function and speed is decreased. It’s the same with your brain as you try to “just remember” all the things you have to do. Don’t be deluded into thinking you can remember all your homework assignments. Trust me (and the research), you need to use a study planner.

How to Use a Study Planner

Use a study planner that allows you to remove pages after you’re done with them and add more pages as you need them. This helps keep your planner at a manageable size. Kids carry more than enough weight in their backpacks, they don’t need to carry extra pages.
You can also use a 3-ring binder ( this version is available in in 12 different colors and is under $5) or ring clips ( these come in a range of colors) .
You need to use the first month of school to develop the habit of using your study planner . Set reminders on your phone and use sticky notes to remind you to add to your homework planner after each class and to check your student planner multiple times a day.
Be committed to using your study planner. Just carrying it around with you is useless. You have to be faithful in writing assignments in the planner and then checking the planner when doing your homework.
When you sit down at the start of each class to see if you have any questions to ask or assignments to turn in.
When your teacher gives you assignments or just before you leave each class.
As soon as you get home, so you can plan your homework load for the day.
Refer to the study planner several times while you are doing your homework to make sure you don’t forget any tasks.
Just before you finish up with your homework to make notes for the next day.
Add note pages to your study planner so that you always have a spot to write down anything you need to remember.
Add document pockets to hold loose papers or forms that you need.

Very nice! I agree that there is something about writing things down by hand that makes it stick with you more. I greatly enjoy using a paper planner. I know a lot of kids today rely on being able to “look up the homework online” when they get home, but you never know what might happen if you rely on technology. A combination of the two is probably the best. Write it down if you can, and then check to make sure you have it right when you get home. I think teachers can help by providing homework assignments in class and encouraging kids to record them before they leave the room.

Printable Assignment Planner for Kids and Teens

Happy Freebie Monday! Your assignment planner awaits today! So if you’re l ooking for a free homework organizer to print, scroll down, you may be able to use what I have for you! It’s designed for kids and teens to help them sort out their school work!

The idea of releasing an assignment planner here in Shining Mom started when I saw the need of creating one for my kid. As the school year is closing near, I have noticed that Kyle is having more and more homework! His little school diary is sometimes no longer enough to hold his tasks for the week, hence the momma needs to come to rescue! I created one for him and happily, I finished it outright. So inspired, I created more templates!

For my son’s homework planning sheet, the layout is rather simple. He needs a basic planner where he can easily manage his assignments. A planner where he can write the assignment subjects, tasks, due dates, and of course, an area where he can tick the done or undone assignments. And this is exactly what I created for him.

The Assignment Planner: A Binder of Free Homework Organizing Printables
