i'm tired of seeing women getting brutalized for the entirety of a movie to have only like a single minute of righteous revenge. i'm tired of women being brutalized at all lol but whatever that's never gonna end is it

This was not what Aerosmith meant with love in an elevator.
Review by Tony the Terror ★★½ 2
I mean, I guess this is an ok time waster. It’s better than I was expecting a movie about 2 people stuck in an elevator to be really because there’s only so many times a single location movie can work and it’s not nearly as often as they are made k?
The script has the characters doing some seriously dumbass shit, but a couple of moments were suspenseful and there is one kill that is truly delightful, but it’s just not enough to bring this rating any higher. 2.5 is the best I can do, folks!
Review by Freyr ★★★½ 2
An enjoyable little thriller, with another single location focus. Both leads give good performances, with Lauria handling his tone swaps surprisingly well. The final shot is a little hammy, but otherwise I think it was all handled quite well.

~The Podcast Macabre Horror 2023~ Challenge - #- 40 Pick a holiday and celebrate it with a film - Down
Blumhouse, Valentine day, Elevator
A Blumhouse horror taking place on an elevator that is stopped on the 4th floor with two occupants. One female Jennifer, and one male named Guy. A "I have to go potty and don't feel comfortable" scene. To build character profiles. There are plenty of opportunities for this, as they are stuck in an elevator. As I was watching this, I asked myself. What is Blumhouse going to do differently than the other horror movies taking place on an elevator? Nice plot twist, It's different. Some of the stuff is not believable.

Review: Down (2019)
Down is the latest installment in the Into The Dark series, a 12 film horror series that releases one movie each month centered on a relevant holiday. The series is a collaboration between Blumhouse Television and Hulu, with Down being directed by Daniel Stamm and written by Kent Kubena. This film is February’s entry and focuses, naturally, on Valentine’s Day. Over the course of the movie, a man and a woman become trapped in an elevator over the long weekend that the holiday falls on and develop a love connection. Things go south for them, however, when it becomes apparent that everything is not as it seems.
I didn’t dislike this movie, and I also didn’t love it. The first act was excellent, but the middle of the film dragged. Things picked back up at the end, but although the finale was a satisfying and exciting resolution to the story, the movie itself wasn’t satisfying as a whole. Too much of the film’s punch was hung on a twist that could be seen from a mile away, and once that twist occurred it wasn’t difficult to guess each step that would lead the story to its closing credits. It was entertaining to watch but very difficult to feel emotionally invested in. That being said, the trapped-in-an-elevator conceit added some interesting flair and (especially if you’re claustrophobic like I am) made the stakes feel a lot higher than they would have otherwise.
Despite its flaws, Down was a decent way to spend an hour and a half. Valentine’s Day isn’t too deeply embedded in the film either, meaning that it would be entertaining on any day of the year. Watching it around the holiday has a special kind of charm, however. While I wouldn’t recommend planning a Valentine’s Day date around watching this movie, it’s a good film to throw on when you want to spend some time cuddling with a loved one.

Reviews From The Comfort Of Our Sofas!
07/31/2019 Fool on the Hill Leave a Comment
It’s Valentine’s Day, everybody! Well, not really, but I get to relive whatever holiday happens to be the latest in my adventure through this Hulu series, Into the Dark . This month I am watching the February film, Down . I’ve seen a surprising number of Valentine’s Day horror movies, and one horror film that takes place entirely in an elevator like tonight’s feature, so I wasn’t expecting anything innovative, but I was still looking forward to something fun!
First, an anecdote: when I was a kid, my dad and I went to Target every Saturday to get groceries and things. Our Target is built into the side of a hill, and only has an up-escalator, so to get back to our car we had to take the elevator. Everyone did. One day, while my dad and I were the only ones on the elevator, he suggested to me that I should film a movie that takes place only in an elevator. I made short horror movies all the time as a kid, and I loved this idea. We talked about it for years. When M. Night’s Devil came out in 2010, we couldn’t believe it – it was our idea from years before! The personal connection to elevator movies (weird sub-genre, I know) left me with a predisposition to enjoy this film. I really hoped I would!
Down begins with an unnamed woman (played by Natalie Martinez of Death Race and End of Watch ) typing an email to her ex-boyfriend about taking a plane to New York and meeting up that night. We then see an unnamed man (played by Matt Lauria of Kingdom and Friday Night Lights ) washing his hands in a public bathroom. He’s carrying a bottle of wine with a little bow on it. They’re obviously trying to make us care about these two from the start, so I assume these are our main characters.
Nice filming. Beautiful shots. I don’t get that indie-film feel like I got with some of the other movies in this series. There are some nice shots of the main characters in the same building through security cameras before they meet one another. This was a really creative way of showing both of our main characters at one time. The lady gets in the lift, the man sees something he’s excited about on his phone and then ends up in there as well. This is where I assume they’ll spend the remainder of the movie.
While they are in there, they make some small talk, and the Man jokes about the etching someone has carved into the wall of the lift. When the camera closes in on it and you see it’s a stick figure person that is trying to get out of the elevator…that was actually something I wasn’t expecting. I knew it was a movie about people being stuck in a lift together, but I had assumed it was going to be an accident, not something that was reoccurring. Maybe the elevator is sentient and it just eats people every so often.
When the audience sees the main characters through the security camera again, then we know someone is definitely watching them through that camera. Not even ten minutes in and it’s already headed in a different direction than I thought. Is there a person in the control room just trapping people for fun? Already, this movie was making me think about what could really be happening. Props for keeping me interested.
After they start talking to one another, we learn their names are Jennifer and Guyman or ‘Guy’, which is handy because I was calling him ‘Man’ anyway, and those are similar. The story started out so well, dropping hints all over the place to what was really going on, and then they spend ten minutes focusing on relationship building between the two characters. They try everything to get out, shout for help, break through the ceiling…nothing works.
One thing I will say is that I actually like both of these people. I have a tendency to think most protagonists are annoying, but Guy is funny, and Jen curses a lot and hates everything and I relate to both of them. They share a bottle of wine and they get over the awkwardness of peeing in front of one another. I wrote a lot of notes about the two characters here, but many of them are spoilers, so I will say this: the pleasantries that they exchange end up being important because of the things they talk about. One of them seems to have too much knowledge of the building and the other person. One of them seems to be forthcoming about their life, while the other is a little too secretive. It might seem like niceties on the surface, but it definitely hints to a twist.
It is definitively established that neither one of them have anyone waiting for them, which seemed like a very important detail, because now both of them can go missing for a long time without the audience wondering why no one has come looking for them.
My complaint at the twenty-six-minute mark is that nothing scary or stressful has happened at all. They have been in the elevator for hours at this point and they are both giggly and happy and basically just on a date. Some of the things they’ve said to one another did get awkward, and my compliments to the actors for being able to change a scene from happy-go-lucky to oddly stressful just with a facial expression. Being stuck in a lift, they only have their ability to deliver dialogue that dictate the emotion of the scenes. They do a great job.
It is because of their acting skills that the plot twist in Down is so effective. Long before the big reveal, the audience is aware that something is wrong. It’s felt in the elevator before it’s physically seen by anyone in the movie or in the audience. However, it took a long time to get to this twist, and somehow the twist has still come too early. About forty-five minutes in and we hit a patch of action that lasts five minutes or so. It is the most action we’ve seen in the film…and then the whole tone of Down changes.
At first, I was afraid that there wouldn’t be much to entertain me after the ‘big reveal’ in the middle of Down , but they actually did a nice job of introducing new events that made for an entertaining plot. Down kind of evolved from the initial plot into a whole other movie. The writers did a nice job of keeping the plot revolving around the elevator adventure without letting it get boring. It escalates again and again right up until the last few minutes of the movie.
Overall, decent film. My only personal complaint is that I liked where I thought Down was going over where it truly went. I was picking up on hints that were not hints at all or were hinting to something entirely different. There’s no real issue here, except that the story itself was a little slow. The actors did a nice job of carrying the tone and every detail of this movie in their mannerisms and expressions. They carried the dialogue nicely, but, as I said, this seems like the type of movie where I wouldn’t relate to the characters and that would ruin it for me. That didn’t happen.
After watching five of these movies, I’m starting to get the idea that ‘horror’ may not be the correct genre to apply to many of them. ‘Psychological thriller’ seems closer, but even then, it doesn’t seem like an appropriate descriptor. I am determined to figure out what these could be called by the time I finish all twelve.
Join me next time for a scary adventure into…Mardi Gras? St. Patrick’s Day? International Women’s Day? Who knows! We’ll definitely find out when we watch the next installment of Into the Dark !
Fool on the Hill:
Down was okay, but I wouldn’t really say that I liked it. I thought it was well made and the actors involved did a fantastic job, but it wasn’t the type of horror film I like. I thought it was a little slow, a little boring, but I can see how fans of that subset of horror would enjoy it (no, I don’t mean elevator horror). After the first half an hour, there was plenty of action, lots of violence, lots of blood, and a few good surprises.
Jack Savage:
Down feels like someone had a concept for a thirty-minute story and put in a lot of filler to hit an hour and a half. The second half of this film just isn’t worth sitting through the first. Also, it’s tie to Valentine’s Day is strenuous at best.
About Fool on the Hill
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she grew up in a family of ex-hippie musicians and went to school to be a music teacher. About halfway through, she decided that teaching English would be fun too, so now she does both. She grew up on a cocktail of Disney, BBC, and 80's slasher flicks.

Before the screening of “Countdown,” a horror film about a phone app that can supposedly tell you the exact moment when you are going to die, the radio personality hosting the screening told the not-exactly-rapt crowd that such an app actually existed. He then encouraged audience members to download it for themselves just before the movie started. Needless to say, I did not bother. But if anyone in the crowd did and found themselves with less than 90 minutes to live, it might have been the one time when they might have been considered to be among the lucky ones. After all, it would have meant that they would not have had to actually sit through this idiocy in full.
As the film opens, a bunch of college kids at a party stumble upon an app that promises to reveal when you are slated to shuffle off this mortal coil. Unfortunately for one coed, her countdown is scheduled to end in a couple of hours and while she tries to avoid the obvious dangers—not getting into the car with her super-drunk boyfriend driving—things inevitably do not end well for her. Meanwhile, at a local hospital, new nurse Quinn Harris ( Elizabeth Lail ) is informed of the app by that drunken boyfriend (who did crash his car and whose own countdown is imminent) and eventually downloads it herself, only to learn that she herself is slated to die in less than two days. She initially dismisses it but when the drunk boyfriend dies suspiciously and she is unable to remove the app from her phone, she begins to suspect that it's real, and that she's going to die unless she can figure a way out. The rest of the film is a race against the time clock in which she, along with her younger sister (Talitha Eliana Bateman) and handsome lad Matt ( Jordan Calloway )—both of whom are similarly doomed—try to get to the bottom of the app and work out a way to beat it. I won’t give away what happens from this point except to note that I think it is the first time that supernatural evil has been combated not by the use of an old priest and a young priest, but by a young priest (P.J. Byrne) and a snarky tech guy ( Tom Segura ).
My guess is that most discerning readers will have already dismissed “Countdown” as little more than low-grade junk and they would not be wrong. However, even taken simply as low-grade junk designed simply to kill 90 minutes and more than a few brain cells, writer/director Justin Dec comes up pathetically short. At first, you get the sense that maybe it is going to try to serve as a commentary on the dark side of how we have allowed technology to take over all aspects of our lives. That clearly must have proved to be too much because it then quickly devolves into a blatant, if notably less gory, knockoff of the “ Final Destination ” films in which a group of attractive boneheads go to absurd lengths to try to cheat death and generally wind up failing regardless. Actually, there are moments here that are so absurd—such as the suggestion that Satan’s greatest trick was convincing the world that they didn’t need to actually read any terms and conditions agreements—that I started to think that I was watching an exceptionally straight-faced “Airplane!”-style spoof. Unfortunately, it isn’t that funny either, though some amusement can be gleaned from the realization that the actors look and act like the generic brand versions of the name stars who wouldn’t go near this with a ten-foot pole—Lail is virtually a clone of Jennifer Lawrence , Calloway is clearly a match for John Boyega and Peter Facinelli ... okay, in this case, he probably was the first choice.
Facinelli is featured in the most patently unnecessary element in a film that is chock-full of unnecessary elements. He plays a doctor at the hospital who initially seems nice enough, but then shows his true colors when he tries to stick his tongue down her throat while they are looking over a comatose patient. Then, before she can lodge a complaint, he lodges one against her and gets the hospital to suspend her after a meeting in which she is literally not given a moment to speak. Look, if you want to inject something as serious as the #MeToo movement into a throwaway genre piece, that is fine. But unless you handle it in just the right way and have a legitimate point for doing so, it is just going to come off as crass and exploitative. That proves to be the problem here—not only is it handled as incompetently as everything else, it winds up not even having much bearing on the story when all is said and done.
“Countdown” pretty much fails on every level that a horror film can—the characters are uninteresting dullards, the story is idiotic, and the scares are nonexistent. Even as a dumb exercise in gore-free PG-13 horror designed to separate gullible teenagers from their allowances on the weekend before Halloween, it is an abject failure whose only virtue is its utter forgettability. Put it this way, in terms of brutally hideous experiences in telephone-based terror, you would be better off sitting through “ The Emoji Movie ” again.

Stream it or skip it: ‘the exorcism’ on vod, an almost-meta horror flick that puts the frock and collar on russell crowe again, shelley duvall’s ‘shining’ eyes were the audience’s portal into the overlook hotel, is ‘longlegs’ really the scariest movie of the year, ‘the acolyte’ proves to be yet another divisive ‘star wars’ offering, but everyone agrees this scary ass mask is pure nightmare fuel.
A new horror film called Down On The Farm may be trending on TikTok , but does the movie actually exist?
In a teaser for the potential new film, 🍿MR.MOVIE🎥 (@tmi_7) claims that the film is streaming on Max and that “some people are saying [it] is the scariest movie ever made.”
Featuring a poster topped with the A24 logo, the TikToker cites an alleged “HBO Max algorithm report,” which reportedly reflects that “only three out of every 100 people that put the movie on made it past nine minutes and 36 seconds.”
While he claims to have “watched this movie past nine minutes and 36 seconds,” he says that “most of the people that [he] told to watch this movie said they couldn’t make it past that point” and “were all pissed” that he even recommended the film to them.
According to the TikToker, Down On The Farm “follows real-life events that happened outside of Rosenberg, Texas.”
“In 2022, members of the FDA were doing a routine inspection on a farm there,” he explains. “At first, everything seemed to be normal, but then one of the agents notices that a lot of the animals’ behavior is very peculiar. They start asking questions — questions that they get bizarre answers to. That’s when they realize something was up.”
So, does the Down On The Farm horror movie exist? Is Down On The Farm streaming on HBO Max? Fortunately, Decider’s here to help.

Is Down On The Farm a real movie? Is Down On The Farm streaming on HBO Max?
Unfortunately for scary movie fans, Down On The Farm is not a real horror film. The TikTok creator who shared the video promoting the film describes himself as a “parody movie critic” in his bio. The creator even shared another TikTok days later, featuring bloopers of him laughing as he attempted to film the video.
Another indicator may have been the following quote from the late O.J. Simpson on the poster: “Beyond messed up.”
While there is a 2017 film titled Down On The Farm , the movie is animated, and features the following synopsis, per IMDb : “When a bale of hay goes missing on the farm, only one animal can solve this mystery: OINK, the FLYING PIG!”
What to watch instead of Down On The Farm :
Max offers a “Horror” tab under “Movies” for those seeking out a good scare. Among the slew of scary titles currently available are Scream , Midsommar , The Strangers , and The Killing of a Sacred Deer . For those eager to get out of the house, you can check out Longlegs , starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage , which hit theaters on July 12. Amazon Prime Day is underway now through July 17, 2024. The main sale began on the 16th at 12:01 a.m. PT (3 a.m. ET). Amazon will be unleashing fresh deals throughout the sale, though many discounts will be available both days. Lightning deals will be staggered throughout the 48-hour event and will only run for a limited time, or until stock sells out.
Amazon Prime Day is the retailer's annual mega sale and one of the major benefits of Prime membership. It's a two-day sales event, usually during the summer, that features products from every category, from fashion staples to hot new tech.
Though it used to be a deal holiday on a much smaller scale, Prime Day has grown exponentially since the first one in 2015. Now, you can find almost everything on sale for all-time low prices, matching discounts we see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
What should I buy during Amazon Prime Day?
Everything is fair game to buy during Amazon Prime Day. Whether you've been holding out on a pricey new TV or just need to stock up on toiletries, Prime Day is a good time to make your move.
We're seeing incredible prices on tech, including 4K TVs , Fire TV streaming devices , Apple products, Kindle e-readers , PC gaming accessories, Echo smart speakers , and top headphones picks. Prime Day tech deals feature brands like Logitech, Bose, Jabra, Sony, Roku, Samsung, TCL, and more.
If you're looking for style and beauty deals during Prime Day, brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tatcha, Laneige, Levi's, Carhartt, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs all feature products at rare low prices. That means skincare, makeup, shoes, men's clothing, women's fashion, and accessories will all be available for less.
Home and kitchen products are also seeing no shortage of Prime Day deals, with big names like Dyson, Shark, iRobot, Philips, KitchenAid, Nespresso, Casper, Leesa, and Coop down to all-time lows for the event. So, whether you need an air fryer , robot vacuum , mattress , or just some sturdy mixing bowls, Prime Day is a good time to buy.
You don't need to be focused on fancy new gadgets or treatments to shop smart during Amazon Prime Day either. We also catch tons of affordable household essentials available for even less every year, like toilet paper, dish soap, doggy bags, and makeup wipes. These deals are sweet since they save you money on stuff you needed to buy anyway.
How long do Prime Day deals last?
How long a Prime Day deal lasts differs between items, but in general, the best discounts start during the event and end before the 48-hour holiday is over. Some will last the whole two days while others will only last one, so it's always wise to act on a good sale when you see it. Lightning deals especially go fast, the most popular of which dwindle away in less than an hour.
I always recommend buying a product you've had your eye on as soon as it's highlighted as a Prime Day deal. Regardless of how long it's set to last, oftentimes, the best sales run out of stock, resulting in shipping dates being pushed out or the deal no longer being offered at all. We'll be providing all of the deal context you need to shop confidently and quickly, so be sure to check our roundups of the best discounts when the event rolls around.
Do you need to be a Prime member to shop Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is locked to Prime members only. It's one of the major benefits of subscribing to the service, in addition to other perks like free two-day shipping and Prime Video streaming.
If you have yet to become a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test it out. This should allow you to shop the sale, but it's not a guarantee since sometimes retailers will lock out free members from shopping the best deals.
Do other stores participate in Prime Day?
Although Prime Day is an Amazon-specific event, it's grown so large that other major retailers have started kicking off competing sales to overlap with it. If past years are any indication, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will be holding competing sales.
These are definitely worth checking out; they often match the best deals on popular items you can find from Prime Day. We'll also be rounding these deals up so you can shop from the retailer that best suits you, whether you're a Target Circle cardholder, My Best Buy Plus member, or Walmart Plus subscriber.
Prime Day occurs in several other countries, but not all of them. Here's a list of countries where Prime Day will be available to shop:
- Netherlands
- Saudi Arabia
- The United Arab Emirates
- The United States
- The United Kingdom

In Episode 3, “Out of the Mud,” Annan lands in Dallas, where he connects with MC Marley Santana, a.k.a. Bandana Fresh, a gay rapper who shares a very similar story to “P-Valley” character Lil’ Murda (J. Alphonse Nicholson). Throughout this section, the rapper reflects on the pain of being closeted, using hypermasculinity and violence as a mask, and what happened when he was outed by someone he loved and trusted. Like Parker, Santana’s story could have been platformed on its own in an hour-long block.
Though Annan is endlessly watchable and “Down in the Valley” encompasses several locations and a whole cast of characters, the manic speed of the show makes it feel rushed and fragmented. If the viewers’ only window into this specific ecosystem within the south is “P-Valley,” then “Down in the Valley” still barely scratches the surface. While the Deep South’s music, food, and residents are emphasized, and the ramifications of poverty and violence are also present, there is so much more to explore. Hopefully, this quick glimpse is just the beginning.
“Down in the Valley” will premiere July 5 on Starz, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays.
