Everything announced at Xbox Games Showcase 2024
The next Xbox Games Showcase finally took place, and it was an important one for Microsoft. As we hit the midway point of a tumultuous year that has been full of layoffs, studio closures, and the genesis of a multiplatform approach that had divided the fan base, we have learned that Xbox has a lot of neat-looking games coming later this year and into 2025. Highlights include known games like Avowed and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle , as well as newly announced titles like Doom: The Dark Ages and Gears of War: E-Day .
Doom: The Dark Ages was finally confirmed
Perfect dark looks fantastic in gameplay reveal, a new fable will finally be released in 2025, max caulfield returns in life is strange: double exposure, an all-digital xbox series x is coming soon, gears of war: e-day gets announced, everything else.
Microsoft showed off a lot, so to help you keep track of everything revealed, we put together this roundup of everything announced during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase.
The second announcement of the show was a brand new Doom game. Titled Doom: The Dark Ages , it has more of a medieval theme and aesthetic, although Doom Guy will still mow down enemies with a shotgun and other awesome weapons like a chainsaw shield. Doom: The Dark Ages will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 in 2025. It will be a day one Xbox Game Pass title.
The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics finally showed off some gameplay for their new Perfect Dark game during the Xbox Games Showcase. It’s a first-person stealth action game with some parkour elements to its movement. We also got our first look at what this game’s redesigned version of Joanna Dark looks like. “Earth has been struck by a series of disasters, bringing ecosystems around the world to the verge of collapse. In this first look at gameplay, follow agent Joanna Dark as she hunts down the world’s most wanted criminal, Daniel Carrington, to uncover the mysteries that threaten the lives of millions,” its official description reads. We did not get a release window for Perfect Dark , but Xbox reaffirmed that it will be on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Playground Games finally showed off some gameplay from Fable , its revival of Lionhead Game Studios’ RPG series. It highlighted a world where players don’t really appreciate heroes anymore. We also saw some flashy magic and combat animations. Most importantly, Microsoft confirmed that Fable will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, making it one of its biggest releases of next year.
Deck Nine and Square Enix unveiled the next entry in its Life is Strange narrative adventure series. It follows Max Caufield as she attempts to solve murders with her powers, which she now understands let her see events from parallel timelines. Its full title is Life is Strange: Double Exposure, and the game will be released on October 29 of this year across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
Sarah Bond came onstage at the Xbox Game Showcase to talk more about Xbox hardware. Specifically, she reaffirmed that Microsoft is hard at work on its next-generation console. More imminently, we can expect new colors for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, as well as an all-digital Xbox Series X and S. The all-digital Xbox Series X will cost $450, according to an Xbox Wire post, and come with 1 TB of storage. The consoles will all be released sometime this holiday season.
To conclude the showcase, The Coalition announced Gears 6, the next entry in its sci-fi shooter series. It’s called Gears of War: E-Day , and it looks like it is a prequel about Emergence Day, which is when the Locust Horde first attacked the surface of Sera. The trailer was purely cinematic, but apparently in-engine. It gave us a look at younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Gears of War: E-Day did not get a release window, but we know it will be on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 got a story trailer ahead of its dedicated Direct following the showcase.
- State of Decay 3 got a cinematic trailer.

Xbox has had a rough year. From the divisive reactions to its multiplatform plans to layoffs and the shuttering of lauded studios like Tango Gameworks, there hasn't been much of a reason to be excited for Xbox recently. Microsoft is hoping to change that on Sunday as it will hold its annual Xbox Games Showcase to give us a glimpse at titles coming from its first-party studios and third-party partners over the course of the next year or two.
It's even holding a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct right after. If you're an Xbox fan, this is obviously an event that you need to tune into. To help with that, we've rounded up everything you need to know about where and when to watch 2024's Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct, as well as what your expectations for the presentation should be. When is the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct The 2024 Xbox Games Showcase will begin at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, June 9. It’s the most exciting time of year to be a video game fan, as almost every notable video game publisher is getting ready to drop new showcases highlighting upcoming games. Across Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, and the next Nintendo Direct, we’ll have a ton of new video games to be excited about. Although titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have already been confirmed for some of these shows, the fun part of this summer gaming marathon is predicting what’s going to show up.
There are five announcements in particular that I’m hoping to see during this summer’s showcases. From games that have leaked, but not been officially confirmed to titles announced years ago that have gone dark since, each of these will likely jump to the top of my personal most anticipated list if they are shown off during a showcase this summer. With some luck, they’ll be out not long after. The reemergence of Metroid Prime 4
Microsoft has set the date for its Xbox Games Showcase this June. It's also teasing a Direct that will immediately follow the showcase, but won't say what that's for just yet.

Xbox Developer Direct 2024: all the news and trailers
By Ash Parrish , a reporter who has covered the business, culture, and communities of video games for seven years. Previously, she worked at Kotaku.
Xbox is having its first gaming presentation of 2024 with a Developer Direct showcase that will share news about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II , Avowed, and more.
Xbox has confirmed that MachineGames’ Indiana Jones video game will make its debut during the showcase. Expect “more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights, including details about the game’s setting and story, how fans will actually play as Indy.”
In addition to a first glimpse of the Indiana Jones game , the Developer Direct might also confirm (or put to bed) rumors that Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will venture beyond the land of Xbox exclusivity for multi-platform shores. Additionally, after Xbox Wire mistakenly announced that Final Fantasy XIV was now available in open beta , there might also be news on when you can finally play the “critically acclaimed” MMORPG on Xbox.
Temper your expectations if you’re hoping to hear about what Activision Blizzard is up to. According to Xbox, news from those publishers will come sometime later. Check out all the details from the Xbox Developer Direct below.

Here’s our first look at Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
A few years after it was first announced, we finally have a glimpse at the Indiana Jones game from Bethesda studio and Wolfenstein developer MachineGames. It’s called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle , and the gameplay reveal was shown during Microsoft’s Developer Direct event . It’s an action-adventure game that takes place in both first and third person, depending on the scenario, and it’s set between the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade , with Bethesda boss Todd Howard serving as executive producer. It doesn’t have a release date, but Microsoft says it’s coming later in 2024 to Xbox and PC.
And yes, there’s a lot of whip-based action.

Ninja Theory shared some updates on development on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II during Xbox’s Developer Direct showcase . For Senua’s next adventure, she’s on a journey of revenge, going after a troop of Vikings that have been raiding her village.
During the game’s short featurette, the developers at Ninja Theory spoke about traveling to Iceland for environmental references used to make the game feel more realistic. Ninja Theory also announced that Hellblade II would be a digital-only release with a $49.99 price tag.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II launches May 21st.

The next game from Obsidian is out this year. And during today’s showcase , the studio gave a deep dive into Avowed ’s colorful fantasy realm, real-time combat, and choice-based narrative. We didn’t get an actual release date, though, instead learning that it’ll be out sometime in the fall. I, for one, can’t wait to dual-wield some wands.
It starts at 3PM ET, and we’re expecting a bunch of news about upcoming games, including the Indiana Jones title from MachineGames . You can watch via the embed below, or check out some more options right here .
How to watch the Xbox Developer Direct 2024
We’re only a few weeks into 2024, and it’s already time for a gaming event. Kicking things off this year is the Xbox Developer Direct 2024 , which is described as “a deep-dive into some of the biggest games coming to Xbox platforms.”
Right now, we know that includes at least a few previously announced titles: an Indiana Jones game from the studio behind Wolfenstein , the very intense-looking sequel to Hellblade , the upcoming Obsidian RPG Avowed , and Ara: History Untold , a turn-based strategy game from a new studio founded by Firaxis Games developers.
Why Microsoft might be considering Xbox exclusives on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch
Rumors are swirling that Microsoft has been considering bringing some Xbox exclusives to rival PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms. Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush have both reportedly been under cross-platform consideration, and when you combine the rumors with recent comments from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Xbox CFO Tim Stuart, it’s clear Microsoft is weighing its Xbox strategy now that the Activision Blizzard deal is complete.
At a Wells Fargo summit in late November, Stuart detailed what he described as “a bit of a change of strategy” for Microsoft Gaming, the division that houses Xbox and Microsoft’s overall gaming efforts. “Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games,” said Stuart. “That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo.”
Microsoft’s second Xbox Developer Direct on January 18th will feature Indiana Jones
Microsoft is holding a second Xbox Developer Direct event on January 18th. Much like last year’s initial event, Microsoft will detail some of its plans for Xbox this year and provide updates on games that are planned for release. The developers of the Indiana Jones game, MachinesGames, are going to reveal how the title is progressing with “more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights.”
The game will be exclusive to Xbox and PC, according to testimony during the FTC v. Microsoft case last year. The game was originally announced in 2021 , just months before Microsoft finalized its $7.5 billion deal to acquire ZeniMax Media , the parent company of Doom and Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks. The Indiana Jones game is being developed by the same studio behind the Wolfenstein franchise.
When to watch the Xbox Games Showcase 2024
Here's when and where to catch the latest reveals from Xbox and all its many studios.
Even after the loss of E3, the console manufacturers are soldiering on with traditional summer showcases direct to our home screens. With PlayStation wrapped and Nintendo yet to come, it's time to tune in for the Xbox Games Showcase to cap off the Summer Game Fest weekend.
When to watch the Xbox Games Showcase
The Xbox Games Showcase will premiere at 10 am Pacific / 1 pm Eastern on Sunday, June 9 on YouTube and Twitch . Check your local equivalent here or see how that breaks down in other timezones:
- 10 am PDT (Los Angeles)
- 1 pm EDT (New York)
- 6 pm BST (London)
- 7 pm CEST (Berlin)
- 3 am Monday, June 10 AEST (Sydney)
- 5 am Monday, June 10 NZST (Auckland)
As for what to expect during the showcase, "This will also be our first Showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision , Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners," Xbox says.
Your guess is as good as ours. Will we see more of Fable or Avowed? What about Starfield's first Shattered Space DLC? Personally, I'd love to see something from that lovely creature befriending game Everwild that Rare has been working on. Okay yes, it is technically possible that we hear about The Elder Scrolls 6 finally. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
Xbox has also confirmed that it will be hosting a Black Ops 6 direct immediately after the main show, the way it did with Starfield previously. It's calling that "a special deep-dive into the next installment in the beloved Call of Duty franchise."
More seriously, I wonder if Microsoft will make any mention during the presentation of the numerous studio closures it has made this year. Layoffs and closures around the industry have been incessant since the beginning of 2023 and the sizable contribution that Micorosft has made to that total has been on our own minds, as well as those of other developers. Some of them went so far as to eulogize shuttered studios —including former Microsoft stalwarts Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks—with a billboard near the Summer Game Fest.

What could we see at the Xbox Games Showcase?
5 Xbox Series X exclusives which are overdue an update at the Xbox Games Showcase
What's interesting about the Xbox Games Showcase teasers is that Microsoft has been very clear that this year's showcase will feature both new games (as you'd hope) and "updates on major titles". Now, this is particularly interesting because there are many Xbox exclusives that we've not heard about in several years.
For example, it's gone very quiet on the likes of Rare's Everwild , and we've not even heard about Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment , The Outer Worlds 2 , the reboot that is the New Perfect Dark , or Avalanche's new IP Contraband since they were first announced back in 2020.
There's also the elusive Fable , along with games like Project 007 or the Indiana Jones game that admittedly feel much farther off.
With Starfield out in September and Redfall now in the rear-view, we could also get a glimpse of some upcoming Bethesda games - although that may be a little optimistic.
