Level: Beginner

Do you think people should be kind to one another? This speaker sure does. And she knows how to convince you of the same.

This is a perfect informative speech for beginner English learners . The speaker is a child who is able to speak fluently but with simple words . She also uses her gestures and facial expressions to communicate her emotions with the audience.

This speech is perfect for listening practice . However, learners should be aware that her pauses are not perfect. Learners should focus more on her words and the content of the speech than her intonation or pacing while practicing.

  • Thousands of learner friendly videos (especially beginners)
  • Handpicked, organized, and annotated by FluentU's experts
  • Integrated into courses for beginners

Even though the speaker is a student in the fourth grade, her speech is one of the most interactive speeches I have seen. She starts with a game and is able to make her main point through the game itself.

English learners will enjoy her speech especially because the vocabulary she uses is simple and can be easily learned. But it does not feel like a beginner wrote this speech because she uses her words so well.

If you want to learn the art of making basic arguments while speaking, you should watch this speech. She is able to convince her audience because she is able to connect with them through games and stories.

She also uses scientific studies to back up (support) her main points.

short speech on english day

This is a short and simple speech about why everyone in the world should get an education. Because the speaker is a child, the speech does not have complex words or sentence structures.

This is also a classic example of an informative speech. The speaker presents the main argument and the facts simply and clearly . She also gives the basic definitions of important terms in the speech itself.

This speech is perfect for English listening and speaking practice because it is so short but also full of useful information. It is also a good example of the standard American English accent .

Emma Watson is a famous English actress who is best known for her role in the “Harry Potter” movie series as Hermione. She is also a United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador .

In this speech, she is trying to both inform and convince the audience  of why men should support feminism. Feminism is a movement that asks for equal rights and opportunities for women.

She mixes her formal tone with personal stories to do this. The speech is also a good example of British English .

short speech on english day

This is a speech taken from the movie “Rocky Balboa.”  In this scene, Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone, is talking to his son.

His speech is a classic example of a motivational speech . In these kinds of speeches, a person tries to inspire someone else, especially when the listener feels hopeless or is full of shame.

The basic message of the speech is that no matter how strong a person is, he or she will always face difficulties. And even though the message does not sound positive, Stallone’s way of speaking still makes it inspiring.

Stallone is able to communicate his message with love, even though he is criticizing his son and telling him difficult facts about the world. Generally, this is called “tough love” in English.

Listeners should also notice how he uses gestures to make his point .

Compare this speech with the Oprah Winfrey and Martin Luther King speeches (later in this list). All of them inspire their audiences but have really different tones. Stallone’s speech is the most informal and personal while Martin Luther King’s speech is the most formal and written for a large audience. All these speeches are in American English.

  • FluentU builds you up, so you can build sentences on your own
  • Start with multiple-choice questions and advance through sentence building to producing your own output
  • Go from understanding to speaking in a natural progression.

Barack Obama was the first African American elected as president by U.S. citizens. He gave this speech after he won the election.

English learners can discover a lot from his speech. Obama talks about the most important issues Americans were facing back then and are still important to them. He also uses a kind of American English that is easy to understand . His speech is mainly about the values that he and Americans stand for.

Obama’s accent is a mixture of standard American English and the way of speaking commonly popular in African American communities. He is an expert in using pauses so that the audience can follow his words without breaking his rhythm.

As the speech is longer than most others on this list, you may want to listen to it in parts rather than beginning-to-end.

  • Images, examples, video examples, and tips
  • Covering all the tricky edge cases, eg.: phrases, idioms, collocations, and separable verbs

short speech on english day

This speech is a perfect example of the mixture of casual and formal English . David Foster Wallace was an award-winning American writer who wrote about the culture of the U.S.

In this speech, he talks about the value of an education in liberal arts (general academic subjects, as opposed to technical/professional training). He believes that this kind of education teaches you how to think and think about others.

This is a good example of American English. Be aware that in some parts of the speech he also uses swear words (rude/offensive words) to create an emotional impact on the audience. This is very close to how people generally communicate with one another in daily life.

So, this speech is better for learning casual English even though it is a speech given at a university.

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Charlie Chaplin is generally known for his gestures and facial expressions. In this movie, he proves that he can use speech as well to inspire and entertain the viewers.

short speech on english day

The movie “The Great Dictator” is a satire about the rise of authoritarian governments in Europe. The word “authoritarian” means a person or a government that believes in controlling others and does not believe in freedom.

In this speech, Charlie Chaplin copies Adolf Hitler , but his message is exactly the opposite of Hitler’s ideas.

The interesting thing about the speech is how Chaplin uses short sentences for the most impact . There is also a lot of repetition that makes it easy for the audience to follow the speech.

Chaplin uses the tone, rhythm and pitch of his voice to make the speech interesting instead of using varied words. Chaplin’s speech can be categorized as inspirational or motivational. It does not use formal words but neither is it casual or informal.

Oprah Winfrey is an American talk show host and actor who is known around the world for her interviews. In the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, she was awarded the Cecil B. deMille award .

Her speech at the award show is about many different topics related to American society. She is the first African American woman to be awarded the prize . She talks about how watching an African American celebrity get another big entertainment award many years ago changed her life.

She also talks about sexual assault and the search for justice in American society. The MeToo movement is the main subject of the speech.

Even though the speech is in formal English , Oprah is able to make it emotional and personal .

Learners should focus on how she uses chunking in her sentences . Chunking is the technique of grouping words (called chunks) in a sentence with a slight pause between every chunk. It also helps with intonation and the rhythm of speaking.

This is one of the most well-known speeches of the last century . Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the civil rights movement in the U.S. The movement demanded that people of different races should be treated equally. This speech summarized the main vision of the movement using metaphors and repetition .

The speech begins by referring to the “Emancipation Proclamation.”  The proclamation (official announcement) was an order by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 that freed many slaves in the U.S. Martin Luther King talks about this because most of the slaves were African Americans and it was their first step towards freedom.

Advanced learners can learn about the history and cultural conflicts of America through this speech. It is also a perfect example of the use of formal English to convince other people .

Some of the words used in this speech are no longer common in American English. “Negro” is often regarded as an insult and learners should use words like “African American” instead.

This speech, delivered by the 16th president of the U.S. (Abraham Lincoln, whom we just discussed above) is considered to be one of the best speeches in English .

Lincoln delivered this in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where many soldiers had died fighting a civil war. It was fought between Americans who wanted to ban slavery and people who did not. Lincoln was there to dedicate a graveyard to the soldiers.

In this speech, Lincoln reminds the people why this was an important war. He mentions that the U.S. was created on the values of liberty and equality. And this civil war was a test of whether a nation based on these values can last for long or not.

He honors the soldiers by saying that they have already “consecrated” the land for the people of America. (“To consecrate” means to make something sacred or holy.) He reminds the audience that they have to make sure that the idea of America as a nation of freedom continues so that the efforts of these soldiers are not wasted.

This is a very short speech . Learners can easily listen to it multiple times in a practice session. But only advanced learners can understand it since it has several difficult words in it. For instance, “score” is an outdated term used for the number 20. And when he mentions the word “fathers” in the first line he is actually referring to the leaders who had founded the country of America.

Even though Shashi Tharoor is not a native English speaker, his English is so fluent that he sounds like one. Learners from India will instantly recognize him because he is famous there for his English skills.

In this video, he is giving a speech as a part of a debate at Oxford University . He lists out arguments that support the idea that the U.K. should give reparations to its colonies. “Reparations” are payments to a country or community for some harm done to them. A colony is a region or a country that is controlled by another country by force.

Britain had a large number of colonies throughout the world between the 16th and 20th centuries. In this speech, Tharoor tries to convince his audience that the U.K. should give something for the damage they did to the countries they had colonized.

This is one of the finest examples of a formal speech in today’s English . Learners who want to go into academics can learn how to organize their arguments with evidence.

The speech is also great for vocabulary practice . Plus, Tharoor has deep knowledge of both the national history of the U.K. and the colonial history of India. Apart from the content of the speech, his way of speaking is also impressive and is similar to formal British English .

This speech is part of a play called “Julius Caesar”  written by William Shakespeare. The play is based on the life and murder of Caesar who was a leader of the Roman Empire. The speech is considered to be one of the finest pieces of English literature .

It is also one of the best examples of the use of rhetoric (the art of speaking and persuasion).

Mark Antony makes this speech after Caesar is killed by other leaders of the Roman Empire. Antony was a close friend of Caesar’s and here he tries to remind the people of Rome that Caesar was actually a good man. He has to convince the people that his murderers like Brutus are actually criminals. But he has to do so without directly blaming the murderers.

Advanced learners should know this speech mainly because of its cultural value.

Many words in this speech have been replaced by other words in today’s English. “Hath” is the older form of “has” or “had.” “Thou” has also been replaced by the word “you.”

So rather than memorizing the vocabulary, learners should focus on how Damian Lewis delivers the speech instead. The intonation, tone, pitch and rhythm is similar to the formal English used today. He is also good at conveying emotions through pauses and expressions.

If you keep watching videos of native speakers talking, you’ll get used to hearing how different people talk in English. After watching these speeches, you could look for more speeches or interviews on YouTube.

Trump Picks J.D. Vance As VP: RNC Live Updates

short speech on english day

The Republican National Convention kicks off in earnest tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Donald Trump will be making his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt on Saturday — as well as introducing his new running mate, Senator J.D. Vance , who is joining the Trump ticket against Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this fall. Below are live updates on Trump’s VP pick , the run up to tonight’s primetime speeches, and how the first night of the RNC plays out.

J.D. Vance’s shapeshifting rise

Earlier this year, Sarah Jones re-read Vance’s memoir Hillbilly Elegy:

When a person first confronts the realities of elite power, they have a decision to make. Play along or burn it down. Vance has always played along with whoever can offer him the most power. He was never a voice for the voiceless, as Charen once called him; with his book, he sold out the working poor for prestige.  Hillbilly Elegy  traded in old stereotypes about poverty and Appalachia and fed them to elites with resounding success. When Appalachians object to a 2009 ABC News segment on a supposed epidemic of “ Mountain Dew mouth ” in the region’s children, Vance criticizes them. Hillbillies, he argues, “tend to overstate and to understate, to glorify the good and ignore the bad in ourselves.” In his family’s Kentucky hometown, the people “are hardworking, except of course for the many food stamp recipients who show little interest in honest work,” he complains. After a pharmacy clerk forbade his uncle from playing with a toy, Vance’s grandparents entered the store and threw merchandise around while his grandmother screamed, “Kick his fucking ass!” He may be telling the truth about his family, but the rest of his story is a lie. Appalachia wasn’t impoverished by cultural decline or personal choices but by capitalist extraction and government austerity. He says nothing useful about the region, whose residents defy caricature if you know or care for them at all.

Read the rest of her take on the book, here .

Vance isn’t just a VP pick to Trump

As I write in my insta-take on Trump’s choice :

It seems clear Trump picked Vance not only to serve as vice-president but as  presumptive heir to the leadership of the MAGA movement . At 39 (he turns 40 next month), Vance will be the third-youngest person ever to be nominated for vice-president by a major party (John Breckinridge was 36 when he was put on the Democratic ticket in 1856, and Richard Nixon was a few months younger than Vance is today when he became the VP nominee in 1952). Vance is half Trump’s age, which means with skill and luck he will be prominent in the national political picture for decades to come. And unlike Burgum, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, or any of the other prospects people talked about during the long months of veep speculation, Vance has no real pre-Trump, pre-MAGA political profile.

You can read the rest here .

It’s Vance.

Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post , writing that “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”

RNC speakers have been asked not to add Trump’s assassination attempt to their speeches

Reports NBC News :

Trump aides and convention leadership have not told those speaking at the weeklong convention in Milwaukee to alter their original speeches after the shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump did not want to show signs of weakness or signal that the shooting affected the long-planned convention, according to seven people who are either set to give RNC speeches or their aides. “It seems people are just going to talk about what they were going to talk about,” a source familiar with the speaking arrangements said. “Trump is setting the tone, and the tone is business as usual.” The one issue that has been discussed is which specific speakers will bring up the assassination attempt. There was concern that the topic would come up in every speech, which organizers wanted to avoid.

An initial vibe check

National political correspondents are feelin’ the electricity:

And yes, there are already assassination-focused t-shirts inside the convention:

Trump’s VP isn’t Doug Burgum, either

Trump’s vp pick isn’t marco rubio.

The candidates are reportedly being notified they weren’t chosen.

Trump has reportedly made his VP pick

But hasn’t announced it yet, unsurprisingly:

Trump picks Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, a once-fierce critic turned loyal ally, as his GOP running mate

Donald Trump announced that Sen. JD Vance, (R) Ohio, will be his running mate and vice-presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former President Donald Trump chose Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate on Monday, picking a onetime critic who became a loyal ally and is now the first millennial to join a major-party ticket at a time of deep concern about the advanced age of America’s political leaders.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social network as the Republican National Convention got underway in Milwaukee.

The 39-year-old Vance rose to national fame with the 2016 publication of his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” He was elected to the Senate in 2022 and has become one of the staunchest champions of the former president’s “Make America Great Again” agenda, particularly on trade, foreign policy and immigration.

But he is largely untested in national politics and is joining the Trump ticket at an extraordinary moment. An attempted assassination of Trump at a rally Saturday has shaken the campaign, bringing new attention to the nation’s coarse political rhetoric and reinforcing the importance of those who are one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Image

Vance himself faced criticism in the wake of the shooting for a post on X that suggested President Joe Biden was to blame for the violence.

What to know about the 2024 Election

  • Democracy: American democracy has overcome big stress tests since 2020. More challenges lie ahead in 2024.
  • AP’s Role: The Associated Press is the most trusted source of information on election night, with a history of accuracy dating to 1848. Learn more.
  • We want to hear from you : Did the attempted assassination on former president Donald Trump change your perspective on politics in America?
  • Read the latest: Follow AP’s live coverage of this year’s election.

“The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” Vance wrote. “That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”

Law enforcement has not yet specified a motivation for the shooting.

The pick will energize Trump’s loyal base

Vance, Trump said, “will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.” Several of those Midwestern states are expected to play a critical role in November’s election.

Trump and Vance spoke about 20 minutes before the Truth Social post and Trump formally offered him the job, according to a person familiar with the call who, like others, requested anonymity to share the private conversation.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, the other contenders on Trump’s shortlist, had been informed earlier Monday afternoon that they were not his pick, according to people familiar with their conversations.

Conversations in the last 10 days between Rubio and Trump’s campaign had focused on concerns about the residency issue and how they would work around both men residing in the same state, according to a person familiar with the private talks who insisted on anonymity to discuss them.

The Trump campaign wanted to be 100% sure that there would not be a protracted legal battle over the issue, and Rubio was unwilling to uproot his family, the person said.

Trump had spent months testing the field, assessing how his contenders performed on television, at fundraisers and on rally stages. Several, including Burgum and Vance, joined him at his criminal hush money trial in New York. Others were there at the debate last month, where Biden’s disastrous performance upended his campaign, leading to widespread calls for him to step aside in favor or a younger candidate.

The pick is sure to energize Trump’s loyal base. Vance has become a fixture on the conservative media circuit and frequently spars with reporters on Capitol Hill, helping establish him as the kind of leader who could carry Trump’s mantle into the future, beginning with the next presidential election in 2028.

But the pick also means that two white men will now lead the Republican ticket at a time when Trump has sought to make inroads with Black and Latino voters.

In “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance detailed life in Appalachian communities that drifted from a Democratic Party many residents found disconnected from their daily travails. While the book was a bestseller, it was also criticized for sometimes oversimplifying rural life and ignoring the role of racism in modern politics.

Vance once was a harsh Trump critic

Vance’s fame grew in tandem with Trump’s unlikely rise from a reality television star to Republican presidential nominee and eventually president. During the early stages of Trump’s political career, Vance cast him as “a total fraud,” “a moral disaster” and “America’s Hitler.”

But like many Republicans who sought relevance in the Trump era, Vance eventually shifted his tone. He said he was proved wrong by Trump’s performance in office and evolved into one of his most steadfast defenders.

“I didn’t think he was going to be a good president,” Vance recently told Fox News Channel. “He was a great president. And it’s one of the reasons why I’m working so hard to make sure he gets a second term.”

Vance was rewarded for his turnaround during his bid for an open Senate seat in 2022, during which he landed Trump’s coveted endorsement and rode it to victory in a crowded Republican primary and a general election hard fought by Democrats. He is close to Trump’s son Donald Jr.

Vance is now a Trump loyalist who has challenged the legitimacy of criminal prosecutions and civil verdicts against him and questions the results of the 2020 election.

He told ABC News in February that, if he had been vice president on Jan. 6, 2021, he would have told states where Trump disputed Biden wins “that we needed to have multiple slates of electors, and I think the U.S. Congress should have fought over it from there.”

“That is the legitimate way to deal with an election that a lot of folks, including me, think had a lot of problems in 2020,” he said.

Many states adopted emergency measures four years ago to allow people to vote safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. But judges, election officials in both parties and Trump’s own attorney general have concluded there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

The relationship between Vance and Trump has been symbiotic.

Vance’s book vaulted him to national prominence

Vance’s book — subtitled “A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis” — was embraced for its insights into Trump’s appeal in middle America , where manufacturing job losses and the opioid crisis had driven many families like his into poverty, abuse and addiction.

The tale of Vance’s hardscrabble childhood in Middletown, Ohio, where he was born, and his familial eastern Kentucky hills region also captivated Hollywood. Ron Howard made it into a 2020 movie starring Amy Adams as Vance’s mother and Glenn Close as his beloved “Mamaw.”

With his grandmother’s encouragement, Vance went on to serve in the Marine Corps, including in Iraq, and to graduate from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. From there, he joined a Silicon Valley investment firm before returning to Ohio to launch a nonprofit that he said would aim to develop opioid addiction treatments that might be “scaled nationally.”

Ultimately, Our Ohio Renewal failed at that mission and was shuttered. During the 2022 campaign, then-U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, his Democratic rival, charged that the charity was little more than a front for Vance’s political ambitions. Ryan pointed to reports that the organization made payments to a Vance political adviser and conducted public opinion polling, even as its actual efforts to address addiction largely floundered. Vance denied the characterization.

As a senator, Vance has shown some willingness to work across the aisle. He and Ohio’s senior senator, Democrat Sherrod Brown, have teamed up on a number of issues important to the state, including fighting for funding for a $20 billion chip facility Intel is building in central Ohio and introducing rail safety legislation in response to the fiery derailment in East Palestine, Ohio .

Smyth reported from Butler, Pennsylvania. Associated Press writers Mary Clare Jalonick, Michelle L. Price and Will Weissert contributed to this report.

Teachers are the guiding lights that enlighten our paths. They nurture our minds, support our dreams, and inspire us to achieve greatness. Speech on Teacher’s Day (500 Words, 5 Minutes Speech)

गुरुर्ब्रह्माग्रुरुर्विष्णुःगुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः।

गुरुःसाक्षात्परंब्रह्मतस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः।।

Good Morning! Honorable Principal sir, director sir, teachers, chief guests, and my dear friends. I am Jagdish Rathor and I study in class 10 th . It’s an honour and a huge pleasure for me to be standing here today. On this special occasion, I want to say few words on behalf of our respected teachers, who are thought of as the backbone of our society. Today is Teacher’s Day, which is a celebration of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday. He was one of the best teachers our nation has ever had. He was also India’s second president. Dr. Radhakrishnan told that it would be a great honor for him if they didn’t celebrate his birthday on September 5 but instead made it Teachers’ Day. This really shows how much he cared about teaching and how much he wanted to honor all teachers.

We all know that the word “teacher” is hard to describe. It’s not easy to be a teacher, because they have to teach students all day without sitting down, figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, and then work on them in the right way. Teachers don’t just shape the lives of the students they teach, but also the lives of the whole generation. Teaching is more than just a good job. It’s also one of the greatest contributions to mankind. A teacher is an intellectual and spiritual guide, and they help their students so that they can spread their wings and fly. They give us the strength to get through life’s hard times. They help us turn our raw potential into beautiful realities. They plant the seeds of knowledge, grow our skills, and give us the power to become the best versions of ourselves. In addition to giving us knowledge, teachers also teach us essential values and qualities that shape us. They teach us how important it is to be honest and have ethics, to respect others, and to never give up. They make us want to dream big, follow our interests, and keep going even when things get hard.

Teacher’s Day is a good time to tell our teachers how much we appreciate them and how important they are to us. Without them, our lives would be useless. As we celebrate Teachers’ Day today, let’s thank the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. Let’s appreciate the pleasure of remembering how hard they worked to make their lessons interesting, how patiently they answered all of our questions, and how much they cared about us when we needed it the most. I bow my head and thank them from the bottom of my heart, now and always. Have a happy teacher’s day! Last but not least, I’d like to end my speech with a quote from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam: “The goal of education is to make good people who are skilled and knowledgeable. Teachers can help people become more enlightened.” Thank you to all of my teachers, who have always shown us the way and been there for us.

Prince Harry Accepted His ESPY Award with a Touching Nod to Princess Diana

"The bond between a mother and son is eternal and transcends even the greatest honors."

short speech on english day

Prince Harry was awarded the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPY Awards last night in Los Angeles.

Harry looked emotional as his name was read out by the presenters. His wife, Meghan Markle , who made an unexpected appearance alongside her husband at last night's ESPY Awards in a slinky white halter gown , squeezed his arm, before she rose to her feet to give Harry a standing ovation as he mounted the stage. Harry then gave a touching speech as Markle watched on proudly from the crowd.

"I'd like to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone at the Pat Tillman Foundation," he began. He then spoke about Pat's mother, Mary. “[Mary’s] advocacy for Pat’s legacy is deeply personal and one that I respect," he said, adding, in a seeming reference to his own mother, the late Princess Diana, "The bond between a mother and son is eternal and transcends even the greatest honors.”

Harry went on to dedicate the award to "the thousands of veterans and service personnel across 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality." He added, "This award belongs to them, not to me. That said, it is of great importance to me to highlight these allies, athletes and their amazing families for their achievements their spirit and their courage at every opportunity, especially on nights like this in front of people like you.”

He continued, speaking about the importance of the Invictus Games. “For those who may not know, ‘Invictus’ comes from Latin, meaning ‘undefeated’ or ‘unconquerable’. Nelson Mandela credited the poem of the same name, written by the poet William Ernest Henley, for giving him the strength to endure nearly 30 years of imprisonment," he said. “Like that poem, the spirit of the Invictus Games transcends race, time, and borders. It is born from unity, and exudes purpose." As he said these words, the crowd began to applaud, and Meghan could be seen smiling proudly in the crowd.

The Pat Tillman Award is given to someone who has contributed to Pat Tillman's legacy through their contributions to the sporting community. Tillman was an American football player who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2004. Harry was honored for his ongoing work as the cofounder of the Invictus Games, a yearly sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

This is not the first time Harry has nodded to his late mother while discussing his work. "I certainly hope and believe everything I do makes her proud," he told People in 2022. "In the 12 short years I was lucky enough to have with her, I saw and felt the energy and lift she got from helping others, no matter their background, ailment or status. Her life and theirs was better for it, however short theirs or hers was. I honor my mother in everything I do. I am my mother's son."

What We Know About the Assassination Attempt Against Trump

The former president was holding a rally when he said he was shot in his ear. Two people, including the suspected gunman, were killed and two were critically injured.

Some people walk through an area of mostly empty chairs and bleachers decorated with red, white and blue bunting.

By Michael Levenson

  • Published July 14, 2024 Updated July 15, 2024, 2:50 p.m. ET

A man fired “multiple shots” toward the stage during former President Donald J. Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday evening, killing one spectator and critically injuring two others, according to the Secret Service.

Mr. Trump was rushed off the stage, blood visible around his right ear, and was pronounced fine. The Secret Service said its agents had killed the shooter, whom federal law enforcement officials identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pa.

The attorney general’s office and the F.B.I. are investigating the shooting as a possible domestic terrorism attack and assassination attempt.

Here’s what we know about the shooting.

The Former President

Mr. Trump ducked quickly after the shots began and as members of the crowd began to scream. Secret Service agents then rushed Mr. Trump off the stage. As he was escorted to his motorcade, Mr. Trump, whose face and right ear were bloodied, pumped his fist in a defiant gesture to the crowd.

How the Assassination Attempt on Trump Unfolded

Footage from the scene of the shooting at a rally in pennsylvania on saturday shows the suspected gunman had a clear line of sight toward the former president, despite being outside the rally’s secure perimeter..

Former President Trump was speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania when shots rang out. Multiple people at the rally were filming at the time. The F.B.I. has said the shots were fired by a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour’s drive from the rally. Trump was on stage speaking for just over six minutes and talking about illegal immigration when the first sound of gunfire is heard. There are two bursts of fire. First three shots and then five shots Three seconds after the first shot is fired, he is surrounded by Secret Service agents who attempt to hurry him from the stage. They’re followed by other law enforcement personnel who are more heavily armed. For a brief moment, Trump tells them to stop until he can get his shoes. Let me get my shoes. Let me get my shoes. Sir, I got you, sir. Let me get my shoes on. When he gets up, blood is visible on his right ear. He pauses again before being rushed off stage and raises his fist in the air, appearing to mouth the word fight. The former president was standing on stage at this location. Soon after the first gunfire is heard, a video captured what appears to be the suspected shooter dead on the roof of this building. The building is the closest one to the rally that wasn’t within the security perimeter and is roughly 400 feet north of where Trump is standing. The location of the body matches the likely firing position. This is because the injury to the ear of Trump, who is facing northwest, is consistent with gunfire from that location. An audio analysis of the shots by an acoustic expert at Montana State University found the gunfire reached the stage from the same approximate distance as the body’s location. A Secret Service spokesman also said the suspected shooter fired from an elevated position and was killed. A video filmed during the rally showed a law enforcement sharpshooter positioned here on a roof roughly 400 feet from that suspected gunman and aiming in the gunman’s general direction before Trump was shot. Footage recorded after the shooting shows one spectator bleeding from a head wound in the bleachers to the north of where Trump was standing. According to the Secret Service, one person at the rally was killed and two others were critically injured. The shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt.

Remarks by President   Biden

Roosevelt Room

2:05 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT:   Good afternoon.  Last night, I spoke with Donald Trump.  I’m sincerely grateful that he’s doing well and recovering.  And we had a short but good conversation.

Jill and I are keeping him and his family in our prayers.

We also extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who was killed.  He was a father.  He was protecting his family from the bullets that were being fired, and he lost his life.  God love him.

We’re also praying for the full recovery of those who were injured.  And we’re grateful to the Secret Service agents and other law enforcement agencies who — and individuals who risked their lives, literally, for our nation.

As I said last night, there is no place in America for this kind of violence or for any violence for that matter.

An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a na- — as a nation.  Everything.  It’s not who we are as a nation.  It’s not America, and we cannot allow this to happen.

Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is important than that right now — unity.

We’ll debate, and we’ll disagree.  That’s not — that’s not going to change.  But it’s going to — we’re going to not lose sight of the fact of who we are as Americans.

Look, Vice President Harris and I were just briefed in the Situation Room by my homeland security team, including the director of the FBI, the secretary of Homeland Security, the attorney general, the director of the Secret Service, my homeland security advisor, the national security advisor.  And we’re going to continue to be briefed.

The FBI is leading this investigation, which is still in its early stages.  We don’t yet have any information about the motive of the shooter.  We know who he is.  I urge everyone — everyone, please, don’t make assumptions about his motives or his affiliations.

Let the FBI do their job, and their partner agencies do their job.  I’ve instructed that this investigation be thorough and swift.  And the investigators will have every resource they need to get this done.

Look, as this investigation continues, here’s what we’re going to do.

First, Mr. Trump, as a former president and nominee of the Republican Party already receives a heightened level of security, and I have been consistent in my direction to the Secret Service to provide him with every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure his continued safety.

Second, I’ve directed the head of the Secret Service to review all security measures for the — all security measures for the Republican National Convention, which is scheduled to start tomorrow.

And third, I’ve directed an independent review of the national security at yesterday’s rally to assess exactly what happened.  And we’ll share the results of that independent review with the American people as well.

And, finally, I’ll be speaking more about this tonight at greater length from the Oval Office: We must unite as one nation.  We must unite as one nation to demonstrate who we are.

And so, may God bless you all.  And may God protect our troops.

Thank you very much.

30 Famous and Short Inspirational Speeches (5 minutes or less)

  • December 13, 2023

This post is all about the best short inspirational speeches.

Short Inspirational Speeches.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

Short Inspirational Speeches

Believe in yourself speeches.

If you lack confidence or you are doubting yourself, these short motivational speeches will help you to believe in yourself again.

1. Rocky’s Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA

In less than 5 minutes, you’ll watch Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) explain to his son that if he wants to have the life he desires, he needs to believe in himself. He needs to stop listening to the people that tell him who he is, and instead go be his own person, and stop looking for someone to blame when things aren’t working out for him because ultimately it’s on HIM. This is one of the greatest inspirational speeches of all time.

2. Find Your Purpose | David Goggins – Motivational Speech

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

Listen to this video if you want to be great. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get there.

Also, if you’ve never read David Goggins’ book “Can’t Hurt Me” , I highly recommend it. He talks about his rough upbringing, and how he was able to essentially become an entirely new person to become a Navy SEAL.

3. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF – Motivational Video (ft. Jaret Grossman & Eric Thomas)

This video is all about how important it is to have the proper belief system. If you truly believe that you are one of the best, you will start acting that you are one of the best, and eventually you may just be one of the best.

4. DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS DIE – Motivational Speech

This YouTube short by Mel Robbins is so good, I had to share it. A light bulb went on in my head when I first watched this. If there is something that is always on your mind, don’t let it haunt you forever because you never put yourself out there to try it. Go and DO!

Motivational Speeches About Not Giving Up

The following short motivational speeches are all about not giving up on your dreams. If you are losing hope, these short motivational speeches will inspire you to keep going.

5. Brené Brown It’s Not The Critic Who Counts

This speech will give you chills, and it is packed with great lessons about life. Brené Brown is a researcher who went viral for a Ted Talk, and here she talks about how to overcome critics and to keep believing in yourself no matter what. If you are worried about what people think of you, you NEED to watch this.

6. Amazing Motivational Speech by Denzel Washington

This is another video that gave me chills. The main theme of this famous speech is “ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship”. Stay consistent even when it’s hard. Easy task after easy task won’t get you to where you want to be.

7. Steve Harvey – Inspirational Speech | Motivational Short Video | Incredible You

This short motivational speech by Steve Harvey is short but impactful. If you are someone who stepped out of your comfort zone to pursue something really difficult, and you’re thinking about giving up, this speech may just prevent you from doing so.

8. Ed Mylett on The Power of One More

Ed Mylett shares the story of how his father stayed sober until his dying day, and how Ed himself uses that same philosophy to never give up. Personal stories like these are always the most inspiring.

By the way, if you REALLY want to push yourself and become the best, read Ed Mylett’s most recent book on this same topic, “The Power Of One More” .

Motivational Speeches If You’re Feeling Behind

Are you feeling behind in life? If so, let’s change that. Watch these videos to be reminded that you are on your own unique path. You have no competition other than your past self. These short motivational videos will help you believe that.

9. Before You Feel Pressure – WATCH THIS | by Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty talks to a school class about how there’s no one “perfect” life timeline to follow, and that we are all on our own clock.

10. Kevin Hart Motivational Speech

If you’ve made mistakes in your life (haven’t we all) this is a great story from Kevin Hart (famous comedian and actor) that will remind you of the power of making mistakes and pushing through hard times.

11. Oprah Winfrey | 5 Minutes For The NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

In this video, Oprah talks about the importance of really knowing who you are and what you want in your life. She talks about surrounding yourself with great people, and how to have enormous success. “Let excellence be your brand.”

Listen To These If You Need Perspective

Sometimes in life, we get so caught up in the day to day that we forget what truly matters – the people we love. If you are having trouble with something in life, give these videos a listen, because they just might help you realize what is really important.

12. Arnold Schwarzenegger – Organize Your Day | 1 MINUTE MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO

Are you the kind of person who always complains that you don’t have enough time to do something? If so, you’re not alone. We are all busy humans, running around doing a million things. But if you aren’t prioritizing what you know you should be doing, listen to this video.

13. How to Judge Your Life Using 3 Simple Questions | Brendon Burchard Speech| Goalcast

Have you ever heard of Mortality Motivation? It’s essentially what it sounds like… being motivated by the impending reality of your death. It sounds a little morbid, but it’s actually quite beautiful and it can be really beneficial if you harness it for good.

In this video by motivational speaker Brendon Burchard, he shares how a car accident when he was 19 gave him mortality motivation and changed everything for him.

14. FALL, SUFFER AND LEARN | MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH BY OPRAH WINFREY

This speech by Oprah was given to Harvard graduates, and it’s a unique speech because she talks about failing, even after the major success of her television show for over 20 years.

It’s refreshing to hear that even the most successful people fail. What really matters, though, is what you do with your failure. Do you learn from it and move on? Or do you give up?

15. YOU VS YOU – Best Motivational Video

This is a pretty intense video about competition. If your #1 competition is someone else, you need to change your perspective. Your only competition is YOU. The only thing preventing you from moving forward is you.

16. The Speech That Brought This Entire School To Tears

This is a speech about a man who never really paid much attention to his mother, until she passed away. It’s an emotional reminder to cherish the time you have with your loved ones, because you never know if the next time you see them will be the last time.

In my opinion, this speaker embodies many qualities of the best motivational speakers because he really knows how to capture the audience’s attention and pull on their heart strings.

17. 5 Minutes to Start Your Day Right! – MORNING MOTIVATION

This motivational speech is by a Navy SEAL who will remind you to start each day with a task completed, respect everyone, take risks, step up during tough times, and never give up. If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

19. Ed Mylett Motivational Speech

I posted another motivational video by Ed Mylett above, but if you don’t know much about him, prepare to have your world rocked. He’s probably my absolute favorite motivational speaker because he is successful and he works hard, but he’s also (seemingly) a kind, family guy who’s been through a few things.

In this video, he talks about being “the one” that changed his family tree. Take a listen because I’m sure it’ll get you thinking on whether or not you can be “the one” in YOUR family.

P.S. If you love personal growth content, you should check out Ed Mylett’s podcast . I listen to it every week and it is one of my favorites.

20. If You Feel LOST, LAZY & UNMOTIVATED In Life, WATCH THIS! | Tony Robbins Motivation

If you are someone who is constantly blaming others or your circumstances for your unhappiness, you need to listen to this video by Tony Robbins . Bad things happen to us all, it’s up to you to focus on what you can control.

Great Inspirational Speeches About Hard Work

How hard do you think you work? Could you be doing more? If there’s a little voice inside of your heart that knows you could be doing more and better, these motivational videos about the value of hard work will help you push yourself.

And a side note: your chances of having good luck increase the harder and longer you work.

21. You’re Not Tired, You’re Just Weak – David Goggins Motivation

If you’re feeling lazy or like you don’t want to do something, watch this video til 2:25 . It will give you the push you need to put your head down and do the work. It’ll remind you to keep pursuing your goals and to keep challenging yourself. Key takeaway: push yourself beyond your perceived limits.

22. Hard Work & Patience – A Gary Vaynerchuk Original Film

If you want to be motivated to work hard, listen to Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk is a creative genius known for his marketing tactics. This famous motivational speech is all about playing “the long game”, as in, working for a long time and having patience instead of working hard for a short period of time and expecting to win quickly.

23. OBSESSION – Best Motivational Speech

This is one of my favorite short motivational speeches because it makes me feel a little more normal for being “weird”. I’m the kind of person who chooses to work on the weekends instead of hanging out with people. Crazy, right? But it’s because I’m working toward a dream of mine and it’s something that’s really important to me. The most important thing to remember: it’s okay to devote yourself to something. It’s the only way to get what you want in life.

24. WORK LIKE HELL – Best Motivational Video

This is a series of motivational speeches about doing a little bit more and outworking your competition. I’m not going to lie – I’m up late writing this post and listening to this very video is what’s motivating me to keep going.

25. The video EVERY woman should watch!

Whether or not you’re a Rachel Hollis fan may be up for debate (and that’s okay!) but I happen to think she’s a great motivational speaker. This entire speech will inspire you to work hard and take massive action – today.

26. NEVER SURRENDER – Powerful Motivational Speech (by Kobe Bryant)

This one minute video by the late Kobe Bryant is one of the most famous short speeches. I read a book recently by his former personal trainer and I learned that Kobe really outworked everyone. He talks about a quote in this video that really stuck with him, and I think it’s great advice if you’re the kind of person who needs motivation to keep working hard.

Motivational Speeches About Working Smart

Have you ever heard the saying “work smarter, not harder”? That saying is all about ensuring that the work you are doing is actually efficient. Are you getting to where you want to go with all of the work that you are putting in? Are you getting closer to your goals and your dreams? Or are you sprinting like a hamster on a wheel and just running in circles?

Here are great videos on the importance of working hard but also working intentionally.

27. SET SYSTEMS RATHER THAN GOALS – Motivational Speech – James Clear

A goal gives you a sense of direction, but if you don’t spell out precisely how you are going to get to a goal, it is useless. You must develop systems. Listen to this James Clear video to gain valuable life lessons.

By the way, James Clear is an author who wrote perhaps my favorite book of all time: “Atomic Habits” . It’s life-changing if you haven’t read it yet.

28. Matthew McConaughey | 5 Minutes for the NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

This is one of the best motivational speeches of all time about how to live a great life for YOU. It’s filled with little pieces of wisdom that’ll really get you thinking about how you live your life and in what direction you want to go.

29. Visualization is the key – Bob Proctor

Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? If not, I have to say I’m surprised! I’ve experienced it in my own life more than once, and it is incredibly powerful. Here’s a great video that sums up the power of visualization, and if you want to learn more about the Law of Attraction or manifestation in general, read this post .

This video shows the true power of words, thoughts, and feelings that you have.

30. How to Stay Motivated – Carla Harris

Here is a YouTube short with very practical advice from Carla Harris on HOW to stay motivated. It’s all about having a vision!

What is Project 2025? Is it Trump's plan? What to know about the right-wing plan for a conservative nation

short speech on english day

Social media has been abuzz with the ultra-conservative initiative Project 2025. So just what is it?

The Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank out of Washington, D.C., launched the 2025 Presidential Transition Project to "assemble an army of aligned, vetted, trained, and prepared conservatives to go to work on Day One to deconstruct the Administrative State."

It is based on a more than 800-page  "Mandate for Leadership,"  published in April 2023 by the Foundation, reimagining the executive branch and as a plan to overhaul multiple federal government agencies, including the FBI, Department of Justice and Department of Education, and that isn't even talking about the want to ban certain words from the legislature and what jobs in the federal government will be appointed.

All of this is intended to be the playbook for the next conservative president to follow .

Here's what we know about Project 2025 and what it could mean for the 2024 presidential election.

What is Project 2025?

For many it is being referred to as just Project 2025, and it has become a hot topic among celebrities, political figures, media and on social media in recent weeks.

The  "Mandate for Leadership" outlines conservative agendas that would mean the repeal of parts of initiatives President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama brought forth during their tenure at the White House, including student debt forgiveness and the Affordable Care Act. Beyond that, the deportation of undocumented immigrants is high up on Project 2025's to-do list.

There is also a section of this plan that appears to undo LGBTQ+ rights in multiple different areas, including banning people with HIV or those who are transgender from serving in the military, rescinding regulations  that bar discrimination “on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, and sex characteristics,” and also seems to oppose same-sex marriage and gay couples adopting children by seeking to "maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family."

Here are just some other items that Project 2025 entails:

  • Passing sweeping tax cuts and changes to the tax code which will impact those with lower incomes while benefiting those with a higher income .
  • Reversal of DEI programs
  • Development of new nuclear weapons and building of more nuclear power plants
  • Dismantling of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration due to it being "one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry.”
  • Ending Head Start and dismantling the Education Department
  • Outlawing pornography

Why are people worried about Project 2025?

One of the main things in this playbook? The reinstatement of a  Trump executive order  augmenting a president's power to hire and fire federal officials by replacing civil servants with political appointees throughout government.

Project 2025 has been “pre-screening the ideologies” of thousands to become part of the federal government once a conservative takes office to have, “a pre-vetted, pro-Trump army of up to 54,000 loyalists."

Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation leadership have also called this group "conservative warriors," and enacted imagery of them marching into Washington, D.C., like an army.

While the Heritage Foundation's nearly 900-page mandate is a blueprint for a far-right way of "taking back control" of the federal government, it is also the rhetoric that is coming from people like the group's president, Kevin Roberts.

“We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless ― if the left allows it to be,” Roberts  said  on a conservative media outlet called Real America’s Voice.

"Project 2025 should scare every single American," said President Joe Biden, in a speech slamming former President Donald Trump for having any part of Project 2025. "It would give Trump limitless power over our daily lives and let him use the presidency to enact 'revenge' on his enemies, ban abortion nationwide and punish women who have an abortion, and gut the checks and balances that make America the greatest democracy in the world."

Is Project 2025 part of Trump's plan if he wins the 2024 presidential election?

Though the plan's organizers want Trump to follow Project 2025 if he wins the November election ― it even has his name in different areas throughout the plan ― the businessman turned politician has tried to distance himself from the Heritage Foundation after Biden slammed him in the press for being affiliated with the group.

Trump took to his Truth social media account in an attempt to lead the narrative away from his affiliation with Heritage Foundation writing. "I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them."

In a post early Thursday morning he wrote, " I know nothing about Project 2025. I have not seen it, have no idea who is in charge of it, and, unlike our very well received Republican Platform, had nothing to do with it. The Radical Left Democrats are having a field day, however, trying to hook me into whatever policies are stated or said. It is pure disinformation on their part. By now, after all of these years, everyone knows where I stand on EVERYTHING! DJT"

And while Trump denies knowing the people who are "in charge of it," some are members of his previous staff.

  • Russ Vought (Project 2025 writer) headed the Office of Management and Budget under Trump
  • John McEntee (senior adviser for Project 2025) was the director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office under Trump
  • Paul Dans (head of Project 2025 team), former Trump staffer
  • Spencer Chretien (head of Project 2025 team), former Trump staffer
  • Troup Hemnway (head of Project 2025 team), former Trump staffer

Project 2025 said it “does not speak for any candidate or campaign” in a  July 5 post on X , formerly Twitter. Its playbook is comprised of suggestions the coalition believes will benefit the "next conservative president."

Who is involved with Project 2025?

The Heritage Foundation has pulled together 100 coalition partners of conservative groups in the country. Here are the partners of Project 2025 reported by the Heritage Foundation:

Good morning to all the teachers and my dear friends. First I wish all of you a very Happy Teachers’ Day. It is my honour and privilege to talk about our teachers on this special occasion. In India, September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day as a tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society.

The day also marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President of India who was also a teacher and a philosopher.

Teachers’ Day is the best way for us to acknowledge and honour the hard work and contributions of the teachers. A good teacher is an asset to the students. They not only teach us but also guide us and inspire us. Teachers serve the country best by making their pupils into good citizens.

I wish the teachers continue to inspire young generations like that. I would like to conclude with a quote of APJ Abdul Kalam –

“Teachers are the backbone of any country, the pillar upon which all aspirations are converted into realities.”

A very good morning to my respected principal, teachers, and my dear friends. Today, on this lovely morning, I, name of the student, am here to deliver a short speech on Children’s Day

Children’s Day is observed on 14th November every year in India since 1954. The day has been chosen in the loving memory of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday who was also very fond of children. In ancient time, it was observed that children’s rights and freedom was being exploited by the people. Given the important role of children in shaping a nation’s future, an action was decided to be taken against the injustices on children. After thorough research and plenty of observations, the fellow demanded the collection of funds to save children in India. He took inspiration from the Flag Day observed in England on the birth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth. Following the same lines, Pandit Nehru’s birth anniversary was chosen as the required day for the collection of children's funds. It was in 1951, when 14th November was observed as Children’s Day and the process has continued since then.

As we all know, children are the future pillars of our nation. It is important to protect them and grow them in a loving environment to ensure that they end up becoming responsible citizens and loving people in their later lives. It is also true that a child’s personality is majorly influenced by their childhood trauma and abuse. This creates a negative impact on the development of the country since instead of taking part in the development of the nation, they end up becoming irresponsible and cruel citizens. Bringing change in the way a child is brought up can do wonders for society. Children are the future-builders, creators, and shapers. A nation’s future progress is completely dependent on children, the youth of the country. Hence, it becomes immensely important to protect the children and provide them with a safe and sound developing environment.

Governments, NGOs, and schools organize various events on this day to keep students happy and remind them about their importance and what they have to do in the future. And for the society, it acts as a reminder of the importance of children in society.

2 Minute Speech on Children’s Day

Find the 2-minute speech on Children’s Day, here. This speech will add a lot of information to your knowledge related to the Children’s Day celebrations in India. It can be an exceptional piece of delivery if added with some personal touch and experiences and spoken confidently.

Governments, NGOs, and schools organize various events on this day to keep students happy and remind them about their importance and what they have to do in the future. And for the society, it acts as a reminder of the importance of children in society. Usually, government schools declare leave on this day to let them enjoy themselves on their own but various private schools organize grand celebrations for their children. Sometimes, they're taken on an excursion, picnic, or educational tour. Acts, monologues, singing and dancing competitions, art competitions, and various such activities are organized by the schools to pass on the right message to their children and build beautiful humans out of them.

Long Speech on Children’s Day

The long speech on Children’s Day is attached below for school students. Read this speech carefully and pick the relevant and important lines to create a beautiful speech for your examinations or speech competitions.

In 1951, a United Nations Social Welfare member came across a study that revealed that there was no organization and awareness on protecting underprivileged children in India.

Children’s Day celebrations do not limit themselves to the collection of children’s funds. Over the years, it has expanded itself and the celebrations have started focusing on building awareness related to child crimes, exploitation of their rights, and many deadly diseases that are pretty common in children. There have been campaigns and events focused on protecting girl children and providing education to them, just like their male counterparts. But, providing education and building awareness is just not enough to protect our children and ensure that they have a happy and cheerful childhood. After this realization, various laws and schemes have been formed and implemented to protect children and work for their welfare. Now, various NGOs have also been established throughout the country to look after the disabled, underprivileged, and orphan children to ensure that their childhood is secured.

We have all gathered here to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Teachers day. On behalf of me and all my fellow students, I would wholeheartedly like to thank our teachers for everything that they have done for us. I have prepared a few words in honor of our teachers.

As we all know that Teachers day is celebrated on the occasion of Dr. Radhakrishnans birthday on the 5th of September. Dr. Radhakrishnan was the second president after independence who was also a teacher and educationist. His excellent guidance helped pave the future path for many of the brightest minds of our country. India has been celebrating Teacher Day since 1962 in his honor who has been an inspirational figure to all.

Our teachers are one of the most irreplaceable parts of our lives. No student can succeed without the efforts and blessings of their teacher. From teaching us lessons from textbooks to life lessons, our teachers have helped us love learning and believe in ourselves and we cannot thank them enough. Can we imagine how life would have been without our teachers? We got a taste of this during the pandemic when we lost our school days and we dearly missed our interactions. From classroom fights to the scolding of our teachers, we missed it all. This however did not slow our teachers down and they jumped back to help us with online classes. With the tremendous efforts and sacrifices our teachers have made for us, we would like to thank you all for being there for us.

We promise to hold up the lessons and values you taught us and hope to make you proud someday!

Speech On Teachers Day : 4

Good morning to all! We are all gathered here to offer our gratitude for the efforts put in by our teachers. Teachers are our parents away from home and our guides to a successful future. On the occasion of Teachers day, I would like to extend our love on the behalf of all the students.

Teachers day is celebrated to commemorate the efforts of our teachers and observe the birth anniversary of Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was the first vice president and the second president of independent India. It is said that when students came to congratulate Dr. Radhakrishnan on his birthday, he told them to dedicate the day to the profession of teaching, and thus Teachers day was born to honor the efforts of teachers across the country.

I would like to take this opportunity and thank my teachers for their support and guidance all through these years. You have all been a motivation and inspiration for us all helping us to tackle any difficult situation in life.

Dear teachers, we will always be grateful for your guidance wherever we are in the future. We are thankful to have been under the blessings of such wonderful teachers who have been nothing but the absolute best.

Long Speech on Children’s Day

Long Speech on Teachers Day in English for students is helpful for students in grades 7-12. Let’s take a look at the Teachers Day Speech, one can speak about.

Greetings to everyone gathered here on the occasion of Children’s Day respected teachers, and my dear friends.

Children’s Day in India is celebrated every year on 14th November. This day is also called Bal Divas, “Bal” in Hindi means a “child”, and divas mean “day.” This day is also celebrated in honor of the birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was fondly called “Chacha Nehru” or “Chachaji” by children, he had a special connection with them and was always affectionate in their company. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14th November 1889, in Allahabad and was schooled at home under private tutors in his early life. This is his 132nd anniversary. After he breathed his last in 1964, a resolution was passed to celebrate his birthday as Bal Divas or Children’s Day, where all can revisit the child in them and celebrate their childlike qualities and remember the importance of keeping them intact.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the epitome of love towards children and was always devoted to working towards their betterment and welfare. A child when well nurtured builds a stronger nation. And this can be achieved through quality education, a child’s first school is their home, so parents play an important role in laying the foundation of discipline, honesty, and sincerity, and children with such qualities go on to excel in school and life and bring laurels to our nation. Many of our great freedom fighters credit their competencies and ability to their parents and teachers, similarly, one can take inspiration from them and follow their paths by giving due respect to parents and teachers equally as they play an essential role in shaping a child’s future. A child should be given complete freedom to unleash themselves and explore their interests and take the path of their calling. And this is possible only through proper education and holistic development.

A child should be treated and cared for in the kindest and affectionate way and Pandit Nehru deeply cared for their well being hence many laws were established for this purpose. The Indian Constitution’s Supreme Law guarantees that all under the age of 18 have children’s rights. This law advocates the right to be cared for by their parents or guardians, the right to education, the right to consume healthy food, and the right to feel safe and protected. Specially-abled children have the right to special care.

In his regime, he always focused on the vision of making India a world leader and that can be achieved only by nurturing the future of the country which are the children. He always believed in empowering young children and never clipping their wings. He said, “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow.” This Children’s Day let’s take a pledge to create a safe place for the future of our country and not threaten and hinder their growth.

Wish you all a Happy Children’s Day.

I welcome you all to the celebration of Children’s Day. This day is dedicated to children to commemorate the work and love put in by our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, this marks his 132nd anniversary. Jawaharlal Nehru became our first Prime Minister in 1947 after India was declared an independent nation and he reigned for 16 years, and he always advocated for children’s rights for safety, health, and education. He was tutored privately with a tutor in his early years and he understood the importance of education and the good outcomes it can lead to.

He loved his time with children and children also were very fond of him as they referred to him as “Chacha Nehru” and “Chachaji”. He had a great vision for India, to make it into a world leader and he knew that was only possible if the young people are nurtured from childhood, by giving them the freedom to dream and have the basic amenities and the right to be protected and taken care of.

Among the basic rights for children education and health were of extreme importance and he ensured to enlighten people with the same philosophy and encouraged parents and teachers to give their children wings to fly and dream the future they want to create and allow room for mistakes and improvements as these qualities empower them to innovate and build a better nation. So let’s be the children our nation is proud of and create a better tomorrow for everyone around. I wish you all the best and a Happy Children’s Day.

Thank you.

Short Speech on The Best Day of My Life

‘My warm welcome to everyone present here. I’m here to present myself in ‘the best day of my life’ speech.’

‘It all started with an idea to become the fastest sprinter in my district when I was just 13 years old. I ran to my high school sports teacher and told him I wanted to become a sprinter and would work very hard to achieve my goals. He said, ‘Son, you have that energy and positive mindset, which will be your greatest strength to achieve your goals.’

‘After 5 years of rigorous training and winning multiple competitions, my dream finally came true. It’s been 5 years since I started running, and I’ve won multiple competitions. The best day of my life was when I finally achieved my goal of becoming the #1 Sprinter in the entire district. I won a gold medal in the senior boys category and the District Magistrate congratulated me on my success.’

This was the best day of my life, where all my hard work finally paid off and I was looking at the bright sky with a feeling of accomplishment and confidence.’

Long Speech on The Best Day of My Life

Hello and welcome to everyone present here. I’m here to talk about the best day of my life. I’m emotionally attached to all the events that have happened to me. I had a personal challenge where I wanted to become the ‘ideal’ son for my parents. I wanted my family to be proud of me not just with my school grades but with everything I used to do.

Football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo was asked what was the best day of his life. The GOAT replied, ‘It was the day when my son was born.’

The best day was when the school principal honored me with the Student of The Year Award for my academic, sports, and overall discipline excellence. My parents had tears in their eyes, their chests pumped up with the feeling of pride and confidence.

I even gave a speech where I talked about the important role my parents played in my life. One can say I made them feel proud, but it was a very big moment for me and my family. I got the opportunity to make my family proud and show my parents that they have raised a son who is capable of overcoming any and every challenge.

My mother cooks 4 times of meals for the entire family. My father takes care of all the finances; from my academic expenses to everyone’s day-to-day requirements. I don’t consider myself worthy of their love and support if I cannot make them proud. But, I managed to make them feel proud, for they backed me every time I hit the ground.

I still remember my mother asking me how my school and training were. She even asked me if I was doing enough or do I needed anything else for my training. I consider my family as my greatest strength. We all must make our parents proud not just by working hard but by doing our best every day.

You need to highlight the key elements and emotions of what made it the best day of your life. You can start by telling how the morning was or how you were feeling, and then talk about specific events or moments that made the day extraordinary. It can be any major or minor event that made you emotionally and personally attracted to it. Where you are describing this day, make sure everything you have in store is authentic and genuine.

To make your speech perfect, you must connect with your audience. A sense of belonging develops when people are able to relate their stories. Even simple moments like family time or picnics, vacations, temple visits, etc. can be counted as memorable days, where you are present as yourself.

Talk about how you were feeling on that particular day and about your plan. Try to keep simple language where there is room for more information and is entertaining when you talk about it. You are out of time so do not go into details. Just give 7 to 10 seconds of intro and focus on the body of your speech.

7 of the Most Profound and Famous Short Speeches Ever Heard

There are many famous short speeches that have been a turning point in history. Here is a list of some of the most notable speeches ever.

Famous Short Speeches

Speech is power: Speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. – Ralph Waldo Emerson This quote brilliantly summarizes the power of a good speech. There is no dearth of famous short speeches that have irrevocably influenced mankind and history.

Although the list may seem endless, and there will always be some or the other disagreement of which of these should figure in the list of popular speeches of all time, given below is a compilation of famous speeches by famous people including former presidents, politicians, a great visionary, and a world-renowned dramatist. These have gone down in history as something that people find relevant and influential even today. It is not necessary for a speech to be long to be famous, even a short one can be great, if it has an ability to mesmerize and inspire the audience. What follows, is a list of some of the most notable short speeches of all time. These were given at historical junctions, and had a significant impact at that time, and hold true even today. As these speeches continue to inspire many, they will go down in the annals of time.

Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Pearl Harbor Address

One of the most famous speeches given by a sitting American President, although it lasted just a little over seven and a half minutes, it managed to stir a nation’s patriotism to the very bone and was a significant point in American history. President Roosevelt gave the famous speech to a joint session of Congress, the day after the Japanese bombing of the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. An excerpt from the speech is as follows:

December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy… No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory… I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

Ronald Reagan’s Speech Following the Challenger Disaster

American President Ronald Reagan made his famous short speech on national television following the disastrous explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle. On 26 January, 1986 after only 73 seconds into its flight, the space shuttle broke apart, causing the death of all the seven crew members on board, including a classroom teacher who had been chosen to be the first ever non-astronaut classroom teacher to travel into space. President Reagan spoke of the traumatic accident saying:

Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all people of our country. This is truly a national loss… Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we’ve never lost an astronaut in flight. We’ve never had a tragedy like this. And perhaps we’ve forgotten the courage it took for the crew of the shuttle. But they, the Challenger Seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs brilliantly. We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe. We mourn their loss as a nation together. One of President John F. Kennedy’s most famous speech, was given on 26 June, 1963, to consolidate United States’ support for West Germany a little less than two years after the Communist East Germany erected the Berlin Wall. One of the most famous phrases in history “ Ich bin ein Berliner “, was in fact a last-minute brain child of Kennedy, who came up with the idea of saying it in German, while he was walking up the stairs at the Rathaus (City Hall). It was a great motivational speech for West Berliners, who lived in the constant fear of a possible East German occupation. Given below is an excerpt from this historic speech:

Two thousand years ago the proudest boast was ‘Civis Romanus sum [I am a Roman citizen]’. Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is ‘Ich bin ein Berliner’… All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words ‘Ich bin ein Berliner!’

Bill Clinton’s “I Have Sinned” Speech

The famous, or rather infamous “I have sinned” speech, was delivered by President Bill Clinton at the annual White House prayer breakfast on September 11, 1998, in the presence of several ministers, priests and his wife, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. It was hand-written by the President Clinton himself and was delivered on the day of the publication of the first report by Independent Counsel Ken Starr, which threatened to impeach the President Clinton on the grounds of perjury and his sexual affair with former White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.

I agree with those who have said that in my first statement after I testified I was not contrite enough. I don’t think there is a fancy way to say that I have sinned. It is important to me that everybody who has been hurt know that the sorrow I feel is genuine: first and most important, my family; also my friends, my staff, my Cabinet, Monica Lewinsky and her family, and the American people. I have asked all for their forgiveness… But I believe that to be forgiven, more than sorrow is required – at least two more things. First, genuine repentance – a determination to change and to repair breaches of my own making. I have repented. Second, what my bible calls a ”broken spirit”; an understanding that I must have God’s help to be the person that I want to be; a willingness to give the very forgiveness I seek; a renunciation of the pride and the anger which cloud judgment, lead people to excuse and compare and to blame and complain…

Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” Speech

“I have a dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr., which was delivered on 28 August, 1963 at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom , was a path-breaking moment for the Civil Rights Movement in America. Given to an audience of more than 200,000 people, this speech was ranked as the top American speech by a 1999 poll of scholars.

I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor’s lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

William Shakespeare’s Speeches

The Bard has left behind his legacy in ways more than one. Most of the non-political popular speeches have been written by William Shakespeare. While there are many, like Hamlet’s “To be or not to be…”, and Portia’s speech in Merchant of Venice “The quality of mercy is not strain’d…” to name a few, the Bard’s most famous speech till date is the speech by Jaques in “As You Like It”, which goes as…

All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms. And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel, Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice, In fair round belly with good capon lined, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon, With spectacles on nose and pouch on side, His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

Steve Jobs ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ Speech

One of my personal favorites, and a speech that today’s youth identify themselves with, is the Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ commencement speech on 12 June, 2005 at Stanford, which was replete with inspirational quotes. His last words in the address “ Stay hungry, stay foolish ” is one of the most famous quotes and is echoed the world over even today, and spurred on a bestselling book of the same name. It summed up his life in three parts, which he narrated in the form of three stories. This is a small excerpt from this notable short inspirational speech:

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories… When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960s’, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

World Population Day Short Speeches

speech

Good morning, everyone! Today, I'll be talking about World Population Day , observed on July 11 globally to raise awareness about important issues like family planning, maternal health, and poverty. With the world's population hitting 8,118,835,999 in 2024, it's important to address sustainable resource usage. This day also emphasises reproductive health education, especially for young people, to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and promote a healthy lifestyle. Recent studies have shown an increase in sexual activity among young people aged 15-19, leading to a rise in sexually transmitted diseases. To secure a sustainable future, we must address the issue of population growth. Let's all work together to ensure a better future. Thank you!
