Class Central , a Tripadvisor for online education, has helped 60 million learners find their next course. We’ve been combing through online education for more than a decade to aggregate a catalog of over 150,000 online courses and 200,000 reviews written by our users. And we’re online learners ourselves: combined, the Class Central team has completed over 400 online courses, including online degrees.

I’ve (Archisha) been using Microsoft PowerPoint since my school days, not just for work but for fun as well!

I (Archisha) have taken over 50 online courses in various subjects. My experience as an online learner and teacher has given me some perspective on what to look for in an online course. I used my experience to evaluate each course in this list. Fabio also has experience as an online learner and as a tutor who revised the research and the latest version of this article.

Trying to find “the best” can be daunting, even for those of us who live and breathe online courses. Here’s how we approached this task.

First, we combed through Class Central’s Catalog and the internet to find a variety of free and paid open courses, some with certificates.

We extracted information from course syllabi and reviews, and compiled their ratings, leveraging the Class Central database with over 200 Microsoft PowerPoint courses and its thousands of course ratings and reviews written by our users as well as available course provider ratings. We watched some course videos to sample courses we hadn’t already taken.

Then, we defined the scope for these recommendations. A PowerPoint course can cover various topics, so we chose top courses from a range of sub-fields.

Ultimately, we used a combination of data and our own judgment to make these picks. We’re confident these recommendations will be a reliable way to learn PowerPoint’s main features.

Summary Overview

PowerPoint has become one of the most used presentation programs in business. The best online PowerPoint courses will enable you to be able to use this great software to its full potential. By doing so, your presentations will become easier to watch and more effective.

Sometimes in business, you simply have to show people what you’re talking about for them to sufficiently understand it. You could make print outs to hand to everyone, but sometimes that just isn’t practical. Printed material also has an issue with last-minute changes.

A projected presentation, on a screen or a large monitor or TV, has a lot of advantages. The presentation is easy to update for needed changes, it’s controlled by you so no one skips ahead or lags behind, it requires minimal hardware.

Thankfully, the days of transparencies on an overhead projector are long gone, but some PowerPoint presenters could use a little help to make the presentations interesting and informative. That’s where the best free online PowerPoint courses come in.

By the way, PowerPoint isn’t limited to only business or educational applications. Anyone can create a PowerPoint presentation to show others something of interest.

PowerPoint is a popular presentation software developed by Microsoft Corporation. It is widely used for creating visual aids, including slideshows and presentations, for educational, business, and personal purposes. PowerPoint offers a user-friendly interface and a wide range of tools and features that allow users to create visually appealing and engaging presentations quickly and easily.

PowerPoint presentations are typically created by combining text, images, and other multimedia elements on individual slides. Users can choose from a variety of pre-designed templates, themes, and color schemes to create their presentations, or they can design their own custom layouts. The software offers a range of formatting tools that allow users to change font styles, sizes, and colors, as well as add animations, transitions, and multimedia elements to their presentations.

One of the key features of PowerPoint is its ability to incorporate multimedia elements into presentations. Users can easily insert images, videos, audio files, and other multimedia elements into their slides, making presentations more engaging and interactive. The software also offers a range of animation and transition effects that can be used to add visual interest and emphasize important points in a presentation.

PowerPoint also allows users to collaborate on presentations in real-time. Multiple users can work on the same presentation simultaneously, making it easier for teams to collaborate and share ideas. The software also offers a range of sharing options, including the ability to share presentations online or to save them as PDFs for easy distribution.

In addition to its use in education and business, PowerPoint has become popular for personal use as well. Users can create presentations for special occasions, such as weddings or birthdays, or share their travel experiences or hobbies with friends and family.

While PowerPoint is a powerful tool for creating presentations, it is important to use it effectively to avoid overwhelming or boring audiences. Good PowerPoint presentations should be clear, concise, and visually appealing, with a balance of text and multimedia elements. Presenters should also be prepared to engage with their audiences and answer questions during and after the presentation.

In recent years, there has been some criticism of PowerPoint, with some arguing that it promotes a style of presenting that is overly reliant on visuals and lacks substance. Others have argued that PowerPoint presentations can be overly complex and difficult to follow, particularly for audiences who are unfamiliar with the subject matter.

Despite these criticisms, PowerPoint remains a widely used tool for creating presentations. Its user-friendly interface, wide range of tools and features, and ability to incorporate multimedia elements make it a popular choice for individuals and organizations alike.

In conclusion, PowerPoint is a versatile and powerful tool for creating presentations for educational, business, and personal purposes. Its ability to incorporate multimedia elements and facilitate real-time collaboration makes it an essential tool for many individuals and organizations. However, it is important to use it effectively and thoughtfully to ensure that presentations are engaging, informative, and easy to follow.

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

  • Guy Kawasaki

courses on powerpoint presentation

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

What is a sales presentation?

A sales presentation is an important tool used by businesses to explain, promote, and sell their products or services to a client or potential buyers. The presentation usually includes an introduction to the product, a discussion of its features and benefits, and a list of reasons why the audience should buy it. Effective sales presentations are well-structured, tailored to the audience’s needs, and delivered in a confident and persuasive manner.

What to include in your sales presentation

Your sales presentation should be a blend of information, persuasion, and appeal. Here’s what to include in your upcoming presentation:

  • Introduction. Briefly introduce yourself and your company then provide context about the upcoming presentation.
  • Identified need. Clearly define the problem or need your product or solution aims to fix.
  • Solution overview. Explain how your product or service solves the identified problem.
  • Benefits. List the key benefits of your product and illustrate how they align with the audience’s needs.
  • Proof points. Provide evidence to support your claims using case studies, testimonials, or data points.
  • Pricing and packages. Outline your pricing structure along with any packages or deals you’re offering.
  • Call to action. End with a clear call to action by telling your audience what you want them to do after the presentation.

Developing your sales presentation

Creating a persuasive sales presentation requires careful planning and extensive research. Follow these tips while drafting your presentation for a seamless delivery :

  • Research your audience. Get to know your audience’s interests, needs, and pain points.
  • Outline your presentation. Before you dive into any specifics, create a high-level outline to make sure your points follow a clear and logical structure .
  • Design engaging slides. Use visuals to support your message while avoiding clutter and ensuring that any text is easy to read.
  • Practice your delivery . Rehearse your presentation multiple times to refine your flow, timing, and cadence.

How long should your sales presentation be?

The length of your sales presentation can vary depending on the complexity of the product and the audience’s engagement level. However, experts recommend keeping presentations between 20 and 30 minutes to cover all your important points without losing your audience’s attention.

Finalizing your sales presentation

After drafting your presentation, remember to review and refine it. Here’s a quick checklist:

  • Ensure all technical terms are explained.
  • Check that all ideas flow logically.
  • Verify that your presentation addresses all potential questions or objections.
  • Include a memorable conclusion that reinforces your call to action.

A successful sales presentation includes engaging visuals, persuasive rhetoric, and well-structured information. By using the tips above, you can design a presentation that not only holds the attention of your listeners but also encourages them to take the next step.
