Untuk mengungkapkan sebuah peristiwa yang akan sedang terjadi di masa depan, kita dapat menggunakan future continuous tense.

Bentuk kata kerja ini memang relatif menantang karena menggabungkan dua keadaan, yaitu akan dan sedang, yang masing-masing dibahas di future tense dan continuous tense .

Future continuous juga dikenal sebagai future progressive dan cukup sering digunakan dalam percakapan.

Untuk mengenal lebih jauh tentang bentuk tense yang satu ini, jangan lewatkan pembahasan berikut!

Pengertian   Future Continuous Tense

Terkadang kita ingin mengungkapkan bahwa suatu peristiwa akan sedang berlangsung di masa yang akan datang.

Pada situasi seperti ini, kita dapat menggunakan future continuous tense. Salah satu jenis tenses ini menggambarkan bahwa suatu kejadian belum selesai dalam bingkai waktu masa depan.

Sering kali, future progressive digunakan untuk memproyeksikan diri di masa depan.

Sebagai kalimat progressive, tense ini hanya menggunakan kata kerja yang bersifat progresif dan sangat jarang menggunakan kata kerja statis.

Dengan kata lain, future continuous biasanya mempunyai durasi tertentu.

Future continuous tense mempunyai beberapa fungsi, antara lain:

• Menyatakan suatu rencana di masa depan

Contoh: I will be watching Harry Potter movie this time tomorrow.

Kalimat tersebut menggambarkan bahwa seseorang akan sedang menonton film Harry Potter pada suatu waktu tertentu di masa depan.

• Memprediksi suatu kejadian di masa yang akan datang

Contoh: I think she will be begging for another help.

Kalimat ini menggambarkan sebuah perkiraan tentang aksi yang akan terjadi di masa depan.

• Membuat kalimat interogatif yang sopan

Contoh: Will he be bringing the present?

Kalimat interogatif tersebut mempunyai nada yang lebih sopan daripada sekedar menggunakan bentuk simple future.

• Merujuk pada kejadian yang diharapkan sedang terjadi pada masa mendatang

Contoh: I will be dating with Dona this evening.

Pada contoh kalimat tersebut, seseorang mengharapkan suatu kejadian akan sedang terjadi di masa depan.

Rumus Future Continuous Tense

Secara umum, kalimat future continuous tense dapat dibentuk dengan menggabungkan penanda masa depan (will) dan penanda progressive (be).

Rumus tersebut berlaku untuk semua subyek, baik tunggal maupun jamak. Berikut rumus-rumus yang dapat digunakan:

Rumus Future Continuous Tense untuk Kalimat positif

Subject + will + be + Verb-ing (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Contoh: My mother will be cooking at 6 AM.

Rumus Future Continuous Tense untuk Kalimat negatif

Subject + will + not + be + Verb-ing

Contoh: My mother will not be cooking at 6 AM.

Rumus Future Continuous Tense untuk Kalimat interogatif

Will + Subject + be + Verb-ing

Contoh: Will my mother be cooking at 6AM?

Kalimat future continuous tense biasanya menggunakan time expression atau keterangan waktu yang menandakan bingkai waktu masa depan.

Ekspresi waktu tersebut antara lain: tomorrow morning, tomorrow evening, at 9 pm, this time tomorrow, by next month, when, etc.

Contoh Kalimat Future Continuous Tense

• Our city will be preparing for a big football match by this summer. ( Kota kita akan sedang mempersiapkan pertandingan sepak bola akbar musim panas ini)
• My family will be visiting Bali when you receive this letter. ( Keluarga saya akan sedang mengunjungi Bali saat kamu menerima surat ini)
• I will be strolling around the city tomorrow morning. ( Saya akan sedang berjalan-jalan berkeliling kota besok pagi)
• Daniel will be cooking savory dish at 7 PM. ( Daniel akan sedang memasak makanan lezat pada pukul 7 malam)
• This time next week, people of this city will be watching our show. ( Minggu depan, warga kota ini akan sedang menyaksikan pertunjukan kita)
• We will be working hard when the situation is normal. ( Kita akan sedang bekerja keras ketika situasi menjadi normal)
• The baby will be sleeping at 8 PM. ( Bayi itu akan sedang tidur pada pukul 8 malam)
• I will be having breakfast when you arrive. ( Saya akan sedang sarapan saat kamu datang)
• My cat will not be eating when I play with her. ( Kucing saya tidak akan sedang makan saat saya bermain dengannya)
• Lisa will not be relaxing at the beach this time tomorrow. ( Lisa tidak akan sedang bersantai di pantai besok)
• They will not be having dinner at 7 o’clock. ( Mereka tidak akan sedang makan malam pukul 7)
• Will you be speaking in front of the audience tomorrow evening? ( Apakah kamu akan sedang berbicara di depan pendengar besok malam?)
• Will she be studying when I call? ( Apakah dia akan sedang belajar saat saya memanggil?)
• Will he be watching a movie at 10 PM? ( Apakah dia akan sedang menonton film pukul 10 malam?)
• Will they be discussing about climate change by next month? ( Apakah mereka akan sedang berdiskusi tentang perubahan iklim bulan depan?

Pengertian future continuous tense.

Future continuous tense atau future progressive tense adalah bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan aksi yang akan sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu di masa depan. Aksi pada tense tersebut telah dimulai tapi belum selesai pada saat itu.

Rumus Future Continuous Tense

Future continuous tense dibentuk dengan  auxiliary verb will dan be, dan  present participle (-ing). Secara umum tense ini hanya terjadi pada aksi berupa dynamic atau action verb , tidak stative verb karena umumnya hanya dynamic verb yang memiliki bentuk continuous.

Berikut rumus future continuous tense untuk kalimat positif, negatif, dan interogatif.

kalimat positif (+):

S + will be + present participle (-ing)

kalimat negatif (-):

S + will + not + be + present participle (-ing)

kalimat interogatif (?):

Will + S + be + present participle (-ing)

• He will be sleeping at 10 p.m. (Dia akan sedang tidur pada pukul 10 malam.)
• They will be strolling at the park tomorrow morning. (Mereka akan sedang berjalan-jalan di taman besok pagi.)
• He will not be sleeping at 10 p.m. (Dia tidak akan sedang tidur pada pukul 10 malam.)
• They won’t be strolling at the park tomorrow morning. (Mereka tidak akan sedang berjalan-jalan di taman besok pagi.)
• Will he be sleeping at 10 p.m? (Apakah dia akan sedang tidur pada pukul 10 malam?)
• Will they be strolling at the park tomorrow morning? (Apakah mereka akan sedang berjalan-jalan di taman besok pagi?)

Wh- Question

Future progressive tense dapat pula digunakan dengan wh- word untuk membentuk wh- question (pertanyaan yang dimulai dengan what, where, when, why, which, who, whose, atau how).

Wh- Question (?)

Menanyakan subject.

• Who/What + will + be + present participle
• Whose/Which + noun + will + be + present participle

menanyakan object

• Who/What + will + S + be + present participle
• Whose/Which + noun + will + S + be + present participle

menanyakan adverb

Who will be playing tennis on the clay court at 4 pm? (Siapa yang akan bermain tennis di lapangan tanah liat jam 4 sore?)

menanyakan object (of preposition “on”)

Which court will Bima be playing tennis on at 4 pm? (Bima akan sedang bermain tennis di lapangan mana jam 4 sore?)

• When will Bima be playing tennis on the clay court? (Kapan Bima akan sedang bermain tennis di lapangan tanah liat?)
• Where will Bima be playing tennis at 4 pm? (Dimana Bima akan bermain tennis jam 4 sore?)

Fungsi dan Contoh Kalimat Future Continuous Tense

Future continuous tense untuk mengindikasikan suatu aksi yang akan sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu di masa depan. Time expression (keterangan waktu) yang dapat digunakan antara lain dapat berupa adverb of time (phrase) atau adverbial clause of time .

• tomorrow morning (besok pagi)
• next summer (musim panas selanjutnya)
• at 10 p.m. (pada pukul 10 malam)
• this time tomorrow (pada saat ini esok hari)
• when + simple present tense (when you arrive (ketika kamu tiba), when I see you again (ketika saya bertemu denganmu lagi), when he gets home (ketika dia sampai di rumah))

• I together with my friend will be walking on Carita Beach tomorrow morning. (Saya bersama dengan teman akan berjalan-jalan di Pantai Carita besok pagi.)
• Reny  will be working at the office when you arrive. (Reny akan sedang kerja di kantor ketika kamu tiba.)
• He’ ll be sleeping at 10 p.m. (Dia akan sedang tidur jam 10 malam.)
• Don’t phone me at 7 o’clock, I’ ll be having dinner with my family. (Jangan memelepon saya pukul 7, saya akan sedang makan malam dengan keluarga saya.)
