Many families plan a trip to some nearby place during these holidays. Also, people usually look for places that have white snowfall on these kinda trips. This trip is usually short as the winter break is very small in comparison to the summer breaks . Also, the places during this time are very crowded, so many people prefer to book tickets in advance. The father of the house usually plans around for this trip well in advance. Thus, hotel booking and list for sightseeing is booked well in advance.

Essay on Winter Vacation in 150 Words

‘My winter vacation started right after Christmas, which was a two-week long vacation. Winter Vacation is my favourite time of the year, as we go New Year shopping, plan a trip to a hill station, and enjoy feasts like homemade cakes, cookies, pastries sweets, etc. On this winter vacation, I went to the city market to buy winter clothes with my parents. My father bought a denim jeans and a dungarees jacket for me, as were planning a trip to Mussoorie, the famous hill station.

Before me and my family left for our winter vacation trip, I completed all my winter homework and school assignments, so that I don’t have to worry about them after returning from our vacation. I took my brother’s help with mathematics homework and completed the remaining homework myself.

After that, we went on a 4-day family trip to Mussoorie, where we had quality time and played a lot. We were lucky enough to witness snowfall and my brother made a large snowman and snowballs and played for hours. Later, we went back to the hotel, where we had our tasty lunch and a bonfire. This was my this year’s winter vacation, which was full of excitement and surprises.’

Essay on Winter Vacation in 300 Words

‘Winter and summer vacations are my favourite time of the year, as we are free from academic pressure and don’t have to worry about school for the next couple of weeks. This year, my winter vacation started with an exciting activity, as I attended a wedding with my family in a different city. It was a short un-planned family trip where we had a lot of fun. Me and sister were excited to dine out at a highway restaurant, which was one of the memorable moments of my winter vacation. On our way to the wedding, I and my sister requested our father to stop at a highway restaurant, as were hungry.

Me and my sister ate a pizza and ice cream. After finishing our food, we were back on our way to the wedding. We greeted all our relatives and some of them gave us gifts. After returning from the wedding, I and my sister wanted to work on extracurricular activities, so our father enrolled us in dance classes. For the next 10 days, we were continuously working on our dancing skills, which was physically exhausting but interesting. As soon as we hit the dance floor, all we could do was wave our hands in the air and vibe with the music.

Another fun activity I did during this winter vacation was helping my mother with household chores. Our family has a custom of making Gajar ka Halwa every winter. I wanted to learn from my mother how it is prepared and the ingredients she uses to make it. Gajar ka halwa is one of my favourite sweets. Eating Gajar ka Halwa on a chilled January morning is one of my loving memories. I wish I could enjoy I little more of those family moments, where there is no school pressure, just fun and love. Now, I will plan for next year’s winter vacations, where me and my family can have a great time together.’

The winter break is a time to unwind and enjoy the company of family and friends. Winter break often follows the conclusion of exams. Thus, it aids in giving students a much-needed break after a month of demanding hard work. Since they can indulge in several exciting activities throughout the holiday, students typically look forward to the winter breaks. Students go out with family and friends to enjoy and have a good time.

Winter Vacation Essay for Students - 100, 200, 500 Words

The typical length of a winter vacation is 15 days to a month, which includes the two major holidays of Christmas and New Year. The holiday season is therefore bursting with festival flavours.

200 Words Essay On Winter Vacation

During these holidays, many families prepare for vacations to nearby locations.

Family Trips

On family trips, individuals frequently search for places with snowfall. Due to how brief the winter vacation is in comparison to the summer breaks, this excursion is typically short. Additionally, the areas are very congested around this period. Hence, reservations for hotels and a sightseeing list are made well in advance.

Everybody enjoys going on a family vacation over the holidays. Families, therefore, always favour a local location where they may unwind and enjoy themselves. Additionally, this season, the crowds at popular tourist locations prevent families from trying a different area.

Family Time

During the typical school days, I am seldom able to spend any time with my family because I am so busy with my schoolwork, coaching classes, and other activities. It has been a while since I sat with my grandparents and heard their fascinating tales. I want to spend a lot of time with them during the holidays. Additionally, my younger sister constantly wants to play with me, so I want to do that. I also do my best to assist my mother with jobs around the house. The holidays like Christmas and New Year's are wonderful occasions to enjoy during the winter break.

500 Words Essay On Winter Vacation

A vacation allows students to take a break from their typical study routine at school. All the students have a good time and celebrate. The students are given two holidays: the summer and the winter. Even though winter breaks are brief, they give us an excellent opportunity to spend time with our loved ones.

Joy Of Winter Season

Many of us enjoy winter. Since it's my favourite season, I eagerly anticipate its arrival. The winter getaways offered during this season increase my enjoyment of winter. Since the winter break was so brief, my family had no travel plans. I adore spending my holiday at home. We can sleep in until the wee hours of the morning during holidays. We also like to eat a variety of hot wintertime foods.

Activities For Winter Vacation

Developing a new hobby | The youngster can plan to master new skills. Taekwondo, drawing, singing, picking up a musical instrument, taking a dancing class, or any other activity could qualify. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to understand it fully!

Do something that will change your life | During the break, insist that your child visit a nursing home or a school for people with disabilities. Let them go there and discover stuff. Your little child will ask you many questions. But do respond to each patient. Let's raise some extremely decent little people!

Go all out in your city | Learn about the city's must-see locations. Could you list everything? Make an effort to get there daily. Know the history and culture in your town.

Students usually await the winter vacations as it indulges them in a lot of fun stuff during the break. Although it is a time of holiday and the mood is relaxing, it is important to not skip studying during this time period.

My Winter Vacation

I make many plans for these vacations and make the most of them. Christmas, one of my favourite holidays, marks the traditional start of our winter vacations. I, therefore, begin my vacations by shopping for Christmas. My mother and I go to the neighbourhood markets to purchase ornaments and festive lights for my Christmas tree. My brother and I decorate the Christmas tree and enjoy seeing it light up.

We visit our cousins during the holidays so we can spend a few days together. I enjoy spending time with my cousins. Together, we had a terrific time. My mother also ensures that we study for at least two hours each day to prepare for the upcoming examinations.

New Year's also falls during the winter break. We are having a little gathering and inviting our close friends and family. Overall, winter break is a time for gatherings with friends, family, and relatives and many festivities. I merely adore it.

I want to go back there every winter vacation because it has become a permanent memory in my head. I liked being around my uncle's kids. Even now, the memory of the place and the flavour of the cuisine still makes me happy.

The season that records the lowest temperatures is called Winter. It is a season that occurs between autumn and spring. Winter usually stays for three months in both hemispheres i.e., in the Northern Hemisphere winter is between December to February. In the Southern Hemisphere, Winter happens between June to August every year.

Students and some employees get winter vacation that prolongs for almost two weeks. In the Northern Hemisphere, Winter consists of two exceptional festivals called the Christmas and the New Year Celebration. In other countries or among different communities, there are some other festivals celebrated in the winter vacation like Diwali, Hanukkah. All in all, these festivities bring back the warmth of joy into the cold climate.

It is the children and students who enjoy the winter vacations most because the exams are over and they can finally relax and spend quality time with family. Winter vacations provide people a few days of relief after months of working hard. The whims of the cold season with the opportunity of holidays often ignite the desire to travel. Many families plan their trip during winter vacations; hence tourism businesses are in full swing while other companies might be slowing down or on a break for the season. Even though students don’t have to go to school during their winter vacations, parents often make sure they stick with a less stressful and somewhat light study routine. Picking up new hobbies or practicing the old hobbies of an individual is suggested by teachers during vacations. Sometimes, students have to share what they did during the vacation once the school reopens.

One of the most popular practices during the winter vacation is the children visiting their grandparents where the full family unites to spend a cheerful, warm, and cozy Christmas with tasty festive meals. During festivals, we should practice sharing, volunteering, and offering our support to people who are unfortunate and need it. The act of kindness only enhances the feel-good aspect of life.

For older people, the Winter brings back warm fuzzy memories of their childhood, and they often travel back to the lane of nostalgia during those chilly nights. Hence, winter vacations should be spent by doing memorable things with family, cousins, and friends. Also, the holidays should be spent by resting enough so that we can go back to our work routine with full enthusiasm.

Essay on Winter Vacation | For Students

Winter vacation is a special time of the year when schools close, and families and friends come together to celebrate and relax. In this essay, I will argue that winter vacation is not only a fun and enjoyable break from school but also an important time for bonding, exploration, and personal growth.

Quality Family Time

Winter vacation offers a unique opportunity for families to spend quality time together. According to a study by the American Psychological Association, family vacations can strengthen bonds and create lasting memories. During this break, my family and I engage in activities like building snowmen, decorating the house, and sharing stories by the fireplace. These moments strengthen our connections and create a sense of togetherness.

Adventure and Exploration

Winter vacation is a time to embrace adventure and explore new places. Many families choose to go on vacations during this season, visiting snowy destinations and enjoying winter sports. An article in National Geographic Kids states that exposure to new environments and activities can expand our horizons and promote a sense of wonder. Last winter, my family and I went on a skiing trip, and I discovered the thrill of gliding down snow-covered slopes. It was a memorable experience that broadened my perspective.

Relaxation and Rejuvenation

In addition to adventure, winter vacation provides a much-needed break from the daily school routine. According to the American Institute of Stress, taking time off and relaxing is essential for mental and physical well-being. During this break, I enjoy sleeping in, reading books, and watching movies. These relaxing moments rejuvenate my mind and body, ensuring that I return to school feeling refreshed and ready to learn.

Cultural Celebrations

Winter vacation aligns with various cultural celebrations and holidays. For example, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are celebrated during this time, each with its unique traditions and customs. Participating in these cultural festivities helps children learn about diverse cultures and traditions. I have friends who celebrate different holidays, and I love learning about their customs and sharing in their joy during winter vacation.

Winter Sports and Physical Activity

A winter vacation encourages physical activity and outdoor play. Engaging in winter sports like ice skating, sledding, and snowball fights promotes physical fitness and coordination. The National Center for Health Statistics reports that physical activity is crucial for children’s development and overall health. A winter vacation provides an ideal opportunity to stay active while having fun. I look forward to sledding with my friends and building snow forts during this break.

Creativity and Imagination

A winter vacation also inspires creativity and imagination. The snowy landscapes and holiday decorations create a magical atmosphere that fuels our creativity. I love making snow sculptures and designing holiday cards during this time. Engaging in creative activities allows me to express myself and develop my artistic skills.

Personal Growth and Reflection

Winter vacation is an excellent time for personal growth and self-reflection. It’s a chance to set goals for the upcoming year and reflect on personal accomplishments. According to educational psychologist Carol Dweck, setting goals and reflecting on progress can foster a growth mindset. During this break, I like to journal about my experiences and set goals for the new year. It helps me develop a sense of purpose and motivation.

Conclusion of Essay on Winter Vacation

In conclusion, winter vacation is a valuable and enjoyable time for families and students alike. It offers opportunities for bonding, exploration, relaxation, and personal growth. Whether it’s spending quality time with family, embarking on adventures, celebrating cultural traditions, staying active, or nurturing creativity, winter vacation has something to offer everyone.

As we embrace the joys and benefits of winter vacation, let us remember the importance of making the most of this precious time. Whether it’s building snowmen, learning about different cultures, or simply taking a break to recharge, winter vacation allows us to create lasting memories and strengthen our connections with loved ones. So, as the winter break approaches, let us eagerly anticipate the wonders that await us, both in the snow-covered world outside and within our hearts.

Essay on Winter Vacation

Indians, unlike the people in the West, look forward to the winter season eagerly. For us, the famous poem becomes inverted - ‘If summer comes, can winter be far behind?’ We, as students too, wait for the winter vacation to commence in the month of December every year. What enhances the holiday mood of winter vacation during school days are Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Why I Like Winter Vacation

Our teachers in our school make us work very hard all through the year. It is only when the exams are over, do we get some relief. This relief and the happiness of no exams to look forward to at least 3 months make the winter vacation special. We get to sleep cosily for more than the usual amount of time. It feels so good!

The best thing about the winter vacation is- I can play cricket, football and whatnot for as long as I want without getting much tired. The cruel sun cannot defeat me during those three months. Winter vacation is the ideal time for a short tour to any nearby picnic spot. It feels so good to sit in front of the river or to see the migratory birds in the zoo gracing our country.

During the winter vacation, I visit my friends’ houses. There are so many different foods to eat. At my Bengali friend’s house, I get to eat Nolen Gur’s Rasgulla. Last year, I ate delicious Gajar Ka Halwa at my other friend’s house. My mom, too, prepares many winter-special delicacies during my vacation, like - Methi Pakora, Gond Ka Laddoo and even Thukpa.

Then came the magical night of 24th December and the bright day of 25th December. Although I do not remain a good boy all through the year, Santa still never forgets to sneak to my room to fill my socks with gifts. The delicious Christmas cake that I get to eat the next morning makes me happy and content to the core. In the evening, with my parents and friends, I go to the fair that the local Church organizes.

After Christmas Day ends, I do not get sad because I know there is another big event coming after 6 days - The New Year. Every year, I have wanted to usher in the New Year by going to the most happening part of my city. But my mother says that I am too young! Still, I enjoy the 31st night with my friends and my parents. The spectacular fireworks at 12 am sharp fill my city, my heart with the light, with the fire to make the upcoming year the greatest year of my life.

After the New Year ends, in January, the mercury dips further. And I add one more layer of the blanket over my existing one. No matter how long I sleep, the sleep never feels enough. My mother forces me to wake up and I have to grudgingly take my books out to study a little. But my heart remains busy in finding out how to make the last few days of the winter vacation memorable.

The last few days of the winter vacation evoke mixed feelings in me. On one hand, I get sad thinking I won’t be able to remain so relaxed anymore and on the other, I feel happy to know that I will be meeting my classmates again. Surprisingly, I miss the school too; maybe because of my teachers who are smart and lovable. The winter vacation, although short, comes with so many happy experiences. As they say, good things come in small packages.

Shraddha Mishra

Key Points To Note: Essay on Winter Vacation For Lower Primary Classes

Winter vacation is the most exciting time of the year, isn’t it? It is because it usually falls after half-yearly examinations. It is a respite from regular classes, and exams and the cold weather adds to the fun. Unlike the west, people in India have a special love for the winter season. It is because the summers are harsh here. Also, in winter, you can enjoy some hot delicacies snuggling in your blanket. Kids usually play throughout the day because they do not get tired as easily as during summers. This break is even more exciting because the Christmas and New Year celebrations are in full swing. The vibe is something different! These festivities sometimes give a long break to parents as well. Many offices remain closed for days. If this vacation is so exciting, why not try and write a winter vacation essay in English.

There is no restriction while writing an essay, and it is the easiest form of writing a child can learn. And when writing is taught at an early age, the child becomes creative, and they can put all their imagination into writing, and the output is beautiful!

Essay writing does not have any rules attached to it. You can put your ideas the way you like. But if you take care of certain things, your simple essay can really stand out. Let’s see how to write essay on winter vacation and get to know the basics:

  • Write an introduction paragraph. It should set the stage right for the content to follow. Your introduction paragraph decides whether the audience will read it further or not.
  • Decide the flow of your essay.
  • In the next paragraph, write sentences that continue with the flow and should maintain the engaging quotient.
  • Decide the number of paragraphs that will communicate what you want to say. Usually, the question mentions the word limit.
  • Intelligently keep the paragraph breaks.
  • Good research on the topic will help you write better!

We’ll be writing essays on the winter vacation for classes 1 and 3. We’ll write in line form, and gradually we’ll move to the essay writing part.

  • Winter vacation reminds me of Christmas bells ringing around, and people everywhere are so joyful.
  • It usually lasts for 12-15 days, and even the New Year’s celebration falls during this break.
  • This vacation is so exciting because it starts just after mid-term exams.
  • You can enjoy special winter delicacies like Gajar ka halwa, Sarson ka saag, gond ke ladoo, Spinach pakora, etc. Let’s not forget the Christmas cake!
  • We play throughout the day, even when it’s sunny. We don’t get tired easily.
  • People usually travel or go on a holiday to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
  • Some kids visit their cousin’s house or grandparent’s house to have a fun holiday.
  • Kids remain excited about their Christmas gift from Santa.
  • Hilly areas witness snowfall during this time.
  • Some people like to go for winter sports during this vacation.

10 Lines on Winter Vacation For Kids

Now we are clear on all the broad writing points about the winter vacation. We can try and write a paragraph on winter vacation, which will help develop a writing flow in children. Let’s do it!

Winter vacation is a 10-15 day holiday that we get during the winter season. The winter season happens to be everybody’s favorite season. Two big festivities happen during this year: Christmas and New Year. Kids remain excited every year to receive gifts from Santa Claus. People decorate houses with lights and other illumination. People visit each other’s homes to share their happiness, and even the elders get a lot of holidays. Many offices remain closed. Hence, people travel to different places for winter vacations. To witness snowfall, people travel to hill stations. The temperature there remains very low. It is so satisfying to eat some hot delicacies during the winter season. All this reminds me of my previous vacation, when my family and I went to Himachal Pradesh on a holiday!

Now, we have written a short paragraph on the winter vacation. The next step would be to join two or more sections to prepare a 200-word essay. This short essay will be a child’s narration of his previous winter holiday!

Winter vacations are so exciting. I am a 2nd grader, and I live in Bangalore. During my last winter vacation, my family and my cousin’s family went for a holiday to Munnar, Kerala. We drove from Bangalore to Munnar. The drive was too long but too much fun, and it took us 12 hours to reach the hotel. The hotel was decorated with Christmas lanterns and Christmas trees. We clicked many pictures at different spots in the hotel and rested through the night.

For the next five days, we were in Munnar itself. We visited different spots in the city. Since it’s a hill station, it was very cold there, and sometimes it used to rain in Munnar. We saw the beautiful tea gardens of the city and enjoyed the local delicacies a lot. The return journey was fun too. For the rest of my holiday, my cousin stayed with us, and we had a great time playing and watching some fun movies together at night. We celebrated the New Year together. It was my most memorable winter vacation to date. I hope to have a lot more fun next year too!

Writing a short essay was fun. Now let us get into the flow in a little more detail. The ideas are depicted as sub-heads here. Here’s a winter vacation essay for class 3:

Planning A Family Trip During Winter Vacation

The winter vacations are an apt time to go out and celebrate with your families. In most families, people plan outstation vacations during this time. Since it’s a common trend, you need to book your tickets in advance. All big and famous hotels get filled up fast, and if you plan late, you pay a lot more for a standard room. Whatever it is, cities look very beautiful during this time. It is because of all the Christmas and New Year Charm around. A family trip is all you need to feel the warmth and share happiness!

Other Activities For Winter Vacation

We don’t always travel during every vacation we get! Sometimes, we plan to stay at home in our city and just indulge in fun activities. Let’s find out:

  • Picking up a new hobby: The child can plan to learn something new. It could be anything like Taekwondo, painting, singing, learning a musical instrument, or even joining a dance class. Do whatever you feel like, but learn it completely!
  • Experience something life-changing: Make your child visit a nursing home or a special needs school during the vacation. Let them experience things there. You’ll get a lot of questions from your little one. But do answer them all patiently. Let’s make our little humans very kind!
  • Visit your city completely: Find out all the must-visit spots in the city. Could you make a list of it? Try and visit those places day by day. Know your city’s culture and heritage.

Routine and Effects of Winter Vacation

We have talked a lot about winter vacation and holidays. It is good to relax and have leisure time for a few days. But it is equally important to not forget about studying. Make a stringent plan for your kid. If you are going out on holiday for five days, you should learn a little every day for the remaining ten days. Learning should not take a back seat. Or else, when school reopens in January, kids will find it difficult to adjust.

Also, look at their eating habits. The food intake increases during winter and also because they are at home. But advise them to be mindful and keep a check on their eating.

Winter vacation, we suppose, has been a very enjoyable time for everyone here. And this essay might have bought back all those happy memories! This winter holidays essay will also help your child learn the basics of essay writing and how to go about it.

We hope this essay helped teach your kid the basics of essay writing. And that your child gets interested in reading and writing English nicely.

What is a narrative essay for, choosing a topic, interactive example of a narrative essay, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about narrative essays.

When assigned a narrative essay, you might find yourself wondering: Why does my teacher want to hear this story? Topics for narrative essays can range from the important to the trivial. Usually the point is not so much the story itself, but the way you tell it.

A narrative essay is a way of testing your ability to tell a story in a clear and interesting way. You’re expected to think about where your story begins and ends, and how to convey it with eye-catching language and a satisfying pace.

These skills are quite different from those needed for formal academic writing. For instance, in a narrative essay the use of the first person (“I”) is encouraged, as is the use of figurative language, dialogue, and suspense.

Here's why students love Scribbr's proofreading services

Discover proofreading & editing

Narrative essay assignments vary widely in the amount of direction you’re given about your topic. You may be assigned quite a specific topic or choice of topics to work with.

  • Write a story about your first day of school.
  • Write a story about your favorite holiday destination.

You may also be given prompts that leave you a much wider choice of topic.

  • Write about an experience where you learned something about yourself.
  • Write about an achievement you are proud of. What did you accomplish, and how?

In these cases, you might have to think harder to decide what story you want to tell. The best kind of story for a narrative essay is one you can use to talk about a particular theme or lesson, or that takes a surprising turn somewhere along the way.

For example, a trip where everything went according to plan makes for a less interesting story than one where something unexpected happened that you then had to respond to. Choose an experience that might surprise the reader or teach them something.

Narrative essays in college applications

When applying for college , you might be asked to write a narrative essay that expresses something about your personal qualities.

For example, this application prompt from Common App requires you to respond with a narrative essay.

In this context, choose a story that is not only interesting but also expresses the qualities the prompt is looking for—here, resilience and the ability to learn from failure—and frame the story in a way that emphasizes these qualities.

An example of a short narrative essay, responding to the prompt “Write about an experience where you learned something about yourself,” is shown below.

Hover over different parts of the text to see how the structure works.

Since elementary school, I have always favored subjects like science and math over the humanities. My instinct was always to think of these subjects as more solid and serious than classes like English. If there was no right answer, I thought, why bother? But recently I had an experience that taught me my academic interests are more flexible than I had thought: I took my first philosophy class.

Before I entered the classroom, I was skeptical. I waited outside with the other students and wondered what exactly philosophy would involve—I really had no idea. I imagined something pretty abstract: long, stilted conversations pondering the meaning of life. But what I got was something quite different.

A young man in jeans, Mr. Jones—“but you can call me Rob”—was far from the white-haired, buttoned-up old man I had half-expected. And rather than pulling us into pedantic arguments about obscure philosophical points, Rob engaged us on our level. To talk free will, we looked at our own choices. To talk ethics, we looked at dilemmas we had faced ourselves. By the end of class, I’d discovered that questions with no right answer can turn out to be the most interesting ones.

The experience has taught me to look at things a little more “philosophically”—and not just because it was a philosophy class! I learned that if I let go of my preconceptions, I can actually get a lot out of subjects I was previously dismissive of. The class taught me—in more ways than one—to look at things with an open mind.

If you’re not given much guidance on what your narrative essay should be about, consider the context and scope of the assignment. What kind of story is relevant, interesting, and possible to tell within the word count?

The best kind of story for a narrative essay is one you can use to reflect on a particular theme or lesson, or that takes a surprising turn somewhere along the way.

Don’t worry too much if your topic seems unoriginal. The point of a narrative essay is how you tell the story and the point you make with it, not the subject of the story itself.

Narrative essays are usually assigned as writing exercises at high school or in university composition classes. They may also form part of a university application.

When you are prompted to tell a story about your own life or experiences, a narrative essay is usually the right response.

The key difference is that a narrative essay is designed to tell a complete story, while a descriptive essay is meant to convey an intense description of a particular place, object, or concept.

Narrative and descriptive essays both allow you to write more personally and creatively than other kinds of essays , and similar writing skills can apply to both.

Essay on Winter Vacation in 150 Words

Vacations are the best part of a student’s life. Students are lucky to get two long vacations each year. Though summer vacations are longer, I love winter vacations more as I have several beautiful memories associated with them. I wait for these vacations all year round and am extremely excited about them.

I make numerous plans for these vacations and live them to the fullest. Our winter vacations usually begin on Christmas, one of my favourite festivals. So, I start my vacations with Christmas shopping. I visit the local markets with my mother to buy decorative items and colourful lights for my Christmas tree. My brother and I decorate the Christmas tree and love it when it lights up.

During the vacations, we visit our cousins or call them home to spend a few days together. I love the company of my cousins. We all have a great time together. My mother also ensures that we study for at least 2 hours each day to prepare for the exams.

New Year also comes during winter vacations. We usually have a small house party to ring in the New Year. It is a small get-together wherein we invite our close relatives and friends.

All in all, winter vacation is a time for friends, family, cousins and lots of celebrations. I love it.

Essay on How I Spent My Winter Vacation in 300 words

Winter vacation has always been special for me. It brings in a lot of love, joy and laughter. Each winter vacation gives several memories to cherish for a long-long time. While during the primary classes, all we did during the winter vacation was eat, sleep, play and visit our friends and relatives; however, as we entered the senior classes, things started to change. Now, we also need to spend time studying during our vacation. Here is how I spent my winter vacation last year in seventh grade.

Increased Number of Coaching Classes

I had enrolled on maths and physics coaching classes at a nearby coaching institute. The classes were conducted every alternative day. Since the final exams were approaching, our teacher thought that vacation was a good time to cover up the syllabus so that we had ample time for revision and tests.

So, we had an increased number of coaching classes. Since we studied more at the coaching, we had to take out more time for self-study each day to revise those chapters at home. So, most of my time was spent studying, which was tiring but helpful during the exams.

Extended Winter Break

I live in Delhi, and the winters are extremely chilling here. Our winter vacation mostly begins on the 1 st of January, and the school re-opens on the 16 th of January. This is the time when the cold is at its peak. Winter rain is also expected during this time, making the weather even colder. However, our winter break was extended by a week last year due to extreme cold. This was great news. We planned a weekend family trip during these days. It was just what I needed after studying hard for so many days.

Essay on How I will Spend My Winter Vacation 400 words

Winter vacations are about to begin, and I have numerous plans. I plan to visit my cousins, help my mother with household tasks, spend time with my grandparents, learn a new art and prepare for my final exams.

Visit Cousins

I am planning to visit my cousins during these winter vacations. We have been planning this since they visited us during the summer break. We have a lot of plans for the few days I will be visiting them and are quite excited about the same. I am lucky to have like-minded cousins. Being with them is the best feeling in the world. I can’t wait to spend time with them and indulge in various mischievous activities during this vacation.

Family Time

I also want to spend time with my family. I am so tied up with my school assignments, coaching classes and other activities during the usual school days that I can hardly spend time with my family. It has been a long that I sat with my grandparents and listened to their interesting stories. I want to spend a lot of time with them during the vacations. I also want to play with my baby sister, who always yearns to spend time with me. Besides, I will help my mother with the household chores as much as possible.

Learn a New Art

Apart from visiting my cousins and spending time with my family, I also plan to learn new art during my winter vacations. Glass painting has always fascinated me, and I wish to learn this art during this time. I have already selected a few tutorials online. I will refer to them to learn this new art.

One of my neighbourhood aunts is also skilled in glass painting. She has done glass painting on her windows and hung numerous glass painting pieces in her house. Her beautiful pieces of glass paintings have inspired me to learn this art. Besides watching tutorials, I plan to visit her a few times to acquire this skill. I have already brought the colours, brushes and frames and can’t wait to begin these sessions.

Essay on My Plans for this Winter Vacation 500 words

Winter vacations are about to begin, and I have several plans for the same each year. I will spend time with my parents, grandparents and siblings. I will indulge in my favourite hobbies and get a lot of time to relax. However, I am not just planning to have fun during the vacations but also aiming to study for the exams ahead.

Study for My Final Exams

Over the years, I have learned that learning the chapters during the exams becomes so much easier if we have already studied and learned them earlier. My schedule is very hectic on the days when school is going on. I attend school, go to tuition classes and have to complete my homework assignments. I hardly get any time for self-study. Holidays are a good time to study. A lot of time can be invested in self-study during the holidays.

I am a morning person. I love waking up early in the morning, which is when I can focus easily. So I have decided to study for at least three hours each morning during my vacations. I will sit for two more hours in the afternoon to cover the maximum I can. This will help me prepare thoroughly for my final exams.

Spend Time with Grandparents

My grandparents live in another city. We visit them during summer as well as winter vacations. We shall also be going to their place for a few days this year. I love my grandparent’s house. It is a huge house with a big lawn, beautiful trees, and plants. Visiting my grandparent’s place was the best part of the vacation. I always look forward to it.

My grandparents are extremely loving and caring. They eagerly wait for our vacations and are pleased to have us home. My grandmother prepares delicious food for us. We get to eat different kinds of delicacies at their place. I especially love the different kinds of sweet dishes prepared by my grandmother.

I also love spending time with my grandfather, who shares his life experiences with us. He narrates stories and real-life incidents that help us learn much about life. The days spent at my grandparents’ house have always been special for me. They have given us so many beautiful memories to cherish.

Other Activities

I also wish to indulge in some of my favourite activities during my winter vacations. I have already booked two classes a week for pottery. I will be going to the classes with my sister. I also plan to go for an evening walk regularly during my vacations. I love the weather during the winter evenings. A stroll in the park during this time is simply refreshing. It is an awesome experience, and I don’t want to miss it at any cost.

Winter Vacations Bring in the Festive Vibes

Winter Vacations are mostly for fifteen days, and two of the festivals I love the most, i.e., Christmas and New Year, fall during this time. So there is a flavour of festivities all around. My sister and I look forward to Christmas as our parents bring gifts for us, and the whole house is illuminated with lights. We also shop for many small bells, stars, reindeer and candies to decorate the Christmas tree.

I purchase a gift for my sister. We love the delicious cake our mother prepares for us on Christmas. The celebration is completed with a family dinner. There is a festive vibe all around. New Year celebrations are all the more special. This is because we are either invited to some friend’s or relatives’ place, or we host a party. It is time to meet our family, friends and cousins. I enjoy the good food and good company on this day.

Family Trip

We also plan a family trip to a hill station during winter vacations. If we are lucky enough, we witness snowfall on such trips. It is usually a short trip of two-three days. Most of the time, we book the tickets almost a month in advance. We are all excited about the trip and start packing our stuff days before the same.

My father plans everything to ensure a smooth trip. The hotel booking is done, the sightseeing list is prepared, and the budget for everything is set. We mostly travel by train, and it is fun. Last year, we travelled to Shimla during the winter vacation. It was a three-day trip.

Mall road was the main attraction during this trip. It was covered with snow, and we just loved walking on it. Our hotel was near mall road, and we spent our mornings and evenings on the road. We enjoyed the weather, played with the snow and had piping hot momos as we sat on the benches on the mall road.

There was a Tibetan market nearby. nearbyher and I went shopping at the market. I just loved the variety of winter clothing items available there. I bought jackets and sweatshirts. I also bought a pair of boots and some accessories. My mother bought a shawl for herself and a lot of other stuff for the entire family. We also went for site seeing to other places. The best part of the trip was the snowfall we witnessed on our last day. It added to the overall experience and made the trip completely worth it.

Essay on Winter Season

A Strict Routine

Though we are in a holiday mood throughout the winter vacations and enjoy them to the fullest, our mother makes sure that we do not skip studying. She prepares a schedule to ensure that we make the most of the time we have to prepare for the final exams and have fun at the same time.

The schedule includes two hours of study in the morning and an hour during the late afternoon. She also makes sure we wake up early and go for walks or cycling. We are free to choose what we want to do during the rest of the day. However, we can watch TV only for two hours a day.

Long Essay on My Experience of the Winter Vacation (1050 Words)

Winter is a beautiful season with soothing weather conditions unlike the scorching heat of summers. The specialties of the winter season cannot be denied. A vacation in this season is not less than cheery on top for children as well as adults. It is a small vacation but people make pre-plans to make the best utilization of these holidays.

What are Vacations?

Vacations are the holidays that are granted to school students and working people. These vacations are a great time to rejoice with family, friends, and close ones. Children eagerly wait for these vacations. The summer vacations are of longer duration but the extremely hot weather conditions are prevailing at that time. The vacations of winter are only for two weeks but it is the best vacation for everyone.

This is the time to relax for students after the second-term examination in September. Children have a great love for winter vacations as they can freely sleep in the morning and do not have the tension of rising early for school. Most of us visit the areas of snowfall during our vacations and enjoy the beauty of this season in mountainous areas. We all make different plans in the vacations to make it a beautiful experience and spend it nicely.

My Experience of the Winter Vacation

Winter vacation is a very short break for all of us but is very important. I am very fond of this season so I eagerly wait for this vacation every year. Moreover, I feel very happy that I can eat different types of food served hot by my mother during the holidays. Last year we had a plan to visit our uncle’s place during the vacation. My uncle lives in a small village of Uttrakhand as therefore it was a very special journey for me.

I had heard that people visit the mountainous areas in winters to enjoy the snowfall in the mountains. They also enjoy different games like cycling, ice hockey, skating, etc. My uncle’s place was situated in a very small village but I was happy that I will be able to observe the beauty of winters in the mountains that I had previously read in the books.

Beginning of the Journey – My father booked the tickets earlier as at the last time the chance of getting confirmed seats reduces. On the expected date we started packing and left for the station to board our train. It took a total of 13 hours from our place to reach Uttrakhand. I was very curious to reach that place and observe the undulating beauty. Finally, we arrived and my uncle was there to receive us. I was very happy to see that place that was appearing like a mini paradise for a person like me living in the plains.

We arrived in the village and finally home. My uncle’s place was not very big but I loved that place very much. I got the company of my cousin brothers and sister over there and we were a total of five children. This vacation was going to be the most interesting one for me. The food was prepared there on fire by my aunt. We sat around the fire and enjoyed the warmth of it. The taste of food there was delicious as if I never have tasted this type of food earlier in my life.

The Beauty of the Place – We made plans for visiting the nearby areas in the morning. The pleasant weather conditions, view of snow-clad mountainous peaks all around made it an adorable place. I spent a lot of time walking and viewing the earnest beauty of nature. The atmosphere over there was very clean and least polluted. I also had seen snow-covered mountains and enjoyed the snowfall. It was the best destination for clicking beautiful pictures and therefore we clicked several pictures of my and uncles family together.

The next day we had a plan to visit different temples in the valley. It was astonishing that a small valley had so many temples there. I also noticed that people of that region were very good-natured. During the evening in the verandah area of the house, a bonfire was lit and we used to sit around the bonfire and play games. The preparation for the dinner would begin there in the evening only. Since it was a village so people used to sleep early and wake up early in the morning.

We stayed there for a week and every day we had plans to visit the beauty of areas nearby the village. We went to different places and clicked our beautiful pictures as a memory. I could not realize how the days passed so quickly and now it was time to get back home. I returned home with a sad heart but was satisfied with the thought that I had a great time during my last winter vacation.

Are Mountainous Regions the Best Places to Enjoy Winter Vacations?

The snowfall is regarded as the best part of the winter season. It makes the mountainous places like a paradise on earth. The snowfall commonly occurs only in the mountainous regions because these regions are experiencing very low temperatures due to elevation. People during the winter vacation make plans to visit these places with their family and friends to enjoy the beauty of winters and snowfalls. There are also many games that are played in the making of snowballs and snowman, ice skating, ice hockey, etc. These things are enjoyed by people worldwide. Many of us are eagerly waiting for the arrival of winters to enjoy these amazing things in winters.

Therefore it can be stated that the snowfall in the mountainous regions makes it a most adored place in winters. These places in winters can be seen visited by numerous tourists from different parts of the world. In India, the Northern region is blessed with the mountains and thus experiences a great rush of tourists in the winter season to enjoy the winters and snowfall.

It became an everlasting memory in my mind and I wish to visit the place every winter vacation. I enjoyed the company of my uncle’s children. The thought of the beauty of that place and the taste of the food served makes me happier from inside even today.

The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

Letter Writing: Describing How You Spent Your Winter Holiday

The winter holiday season, with its festive gatherings, cozy moments, and often picturesque settings, provides a perfect backdrop for heartfelt letters. Whether you’re writing to a friend who couldn’t join your holiday adventures or a family member reminiscing about past celebrations, a well-crafted letter can convey warmth and joy. Here’s how you can compose a memorable and engaging letter about your winter holiday.

Table of Contents

Setting the Stage

Narrating the experience.

Detail the activities and events that filled your days, from outdoor adventures like skiing or snowboarding to quieter moments spent by the fireplace. Include sensory descriptions to bring scenes to life, and highlight a particular incident or moment that stands out as the pinnacle of your holiday experience. Share your emotions and any new traditions that were part of your celebration, making the narrative engaging and relatable.

Reflective Closure

Conclude with a reflection on the overall significance of the holiday to you. Discuss any personal insights gained or how the experience strengthened your relationships. End with heartfelt wishes for the reader, perhaps expressing hope for future gatherings or continued correspondence. This not only wraps up the letter warmly but also reiterates the shared bonds and cherished memories.

Winter Holiday Letter Example #1

I spent the first few days of my winter holiday visiting family and friends. I traveled to my hometown to spend time with my parents, siblings, and extended family. We had a great time catching up on old times, sharing stories, and enjoying delicious meals together. I also visited some close friends who live nearby, and we had a great time reminiscing about old times and making new memories.

Winter is also a great time to enjoy cozy indoor activities, and I indulged in a few of my favorites. I spent some time reading my favorite books while sipping on hot cocoa, and I also binge-watched some of my favorite TV shows. I also spent some time baking, trying out new recipes, and enjoying the delicious treats with family and friends.

In conclusion, my winter holiday was a perfect blend of spending time with loved ones, engaging in outdoor activities, and enjoying cozy indoor activities. It was a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and I am grateful for the memories and experiences that I made during this special time.

Winter Holiday Letter Example #2

During my stay in the mountains, I also had the opportunity to explore the local town and try new foods. The town was quaint, and the locals were friendly. I tasted delicious local cuisine, such as traditional hotpot and dumplings. I also visited local markets and shops, where I bought unique souvenirs to take back home.

Winter holidays are a much-awaited time of the year, a time to unwind and create some unforgettable memories. In this essay, I will describe how I spent my winter holiday by visiting family and friends, exploring new places and activities, and relaxing and enjoying downtime.

Finally, I spent some time relaxing and enjoying my downtime during my winter holiday. I caught up on my reading, watched some of my favorite movies and TV shows, and listened to music. I also took long walks in the park, enjoying the crisp winter air and the beauty of nature. It was a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Shelley Duvall in ‘The Shining’: A Perfect Gothic Heroine Had a Deep Well of Strength

Her performance was perhaps misunderstood at the time, just as the narrative surrounding her life would be later.

  • Share full article

In a still from the movie set inside a car, Shelley Duvall is looking with concern at a determined Jack Nicholson in the driver’s seat. Their son is in the back seat looking at Duvall.

By Alissa Wilkinson

If Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” was a twist on the centuries-old Gothic horror genre, there was no one better suited to play a modern Gothic heroine than Shelley Duvall. Duvall, who died Thursday at 75 , was in her late 20s when she shot the role of Wendy Torrance, put-upon wife of blocked writer Jack (Jack Nicholson). The pair have holed up with their young son in the Overlook Hotel, working as winter caretakers.

But something evil is afoot. The Overlook is less hotel than haunted house, saddled with the weight of inexplicable and violent history. Wendy is virtually trapped there, a small woman often alone in a rambling, dangerous building full of secrets. It might be more accurate to call the Overlook a monster, one that pushes its monstrousness onto its inhabitants. And it is Wendy, not Jack, who successfully resists in the end.

The Gothic heroine, the woman trapped in the menacing haunted home, must exhibit courage in the face of danger, remaining resolute while also being susceptible to the evil that lurks around every corner. Without that tension, we wouldn’t be kept in suspense. In the film, Duvall is waifish, eyes wide, hair flat and scraggly, and it’s hard not to believe she’s going to die. Her only objective is to save her son, Danny, from his father, who — we learn early on — previously broke Danny’s arm in an alcoholic rage. This evil she is fighting is malevolent and abusive and real, a threat she has seen in action before, only now it carries an ax.

The Wendy of Kubrick’s 1980 movie is a different kind of woman than the Wendy of Stephen King’s earlier novel — she’s more vulnerable, more frightened. King complained that the movie’s version was “basically just there to scream and be stupid and that’s not the woman that I wrote about.” Duvall was cited as a weak point in many of the film’s mixed reviews and nominated for a Razzie for worst actress.

Yet her work in “The Shining” has grown in critical esteem in recent years; today it can feel as if detractors simply weren’t expecting how unsettling it would be to witness her performance of abject terror. There’s a strangeness to it: Her eyes are both huge and heavy-lidded, her mouth equally able to draw into a rosebud or spread wide for a shriek. Throughout the film, her affect is almost that of a china doll, terrified of being shattered. She appears afraid to breathe, barely able to speak.
