XXX Agro-processing PLC is own by Ethiopian citizen investor, who engaged in different investment sector including hotel and tourism, Cereal, and fruit production, small scale fattening and another integrated agricultural system at Amahara National regional state North Shoa Zonal administration, Midaweromo Woreda. The development of agriculture and agro-processing industries in Ethiopia has given high priority. Realizing the opportunity, XXX Agro Processing PLC plan to establish full-fledged integrated agro-processing industry, in focus to Livestock development (fattening of cattle, sheep, and goat) and Animal feed production/processing. The goal of the intended project will be to establish a modern integrated agricultural development project. The proposed project establishes in Ethiopia, Amhara national regional state, in a locality called North Shoa zonal administration, Midaweromo Woreda, which is more suitable for planned project productivity. To this end, the company plan to request 10,000 m2 land for animal feed processing in the town of Midaweromo Woreda besides existing 6 ha of land already establish and start animal fattening at Wenchite site. Selection of animal feed processing site was considering its suitability to feed processing and the availability of the necessary utilities as well as due to accessibility to road and other basic infrastructural facilities. Regarding market access for the product of the company which is fatten livestock and animal feed were analyzed with the prevailing market situation and major players in the market. In this regard, it has planned to produce quality products with low cost to be able to penetrate the market and compete equally with competitors. The company will focus on setting up a whole seller based distribution system. The total investment cost of the proposed project including working capital is estimated at Birr 60 million. The project can create 328 job opportunity of that 220 male and 108 females and the estimated income is 5.4 million birrs. The financial result indicates that the project will generate profit beginning from the first year of operation. The result shows that the calculated IRR of the project is 61.43% and NPV discounted at 10% of Birr 237,237,719. In addition to this, the proposed project possesses a wide range of economic and social benefits such as increasing the level of investment, tax revenue, and employment creation. Hence, the project is technically feasible, financially and commercially viable as well as socially and economically acceptable and the project is worth implementing.

This study has attempted to identify determinants of sheep price per kilogram live weight using a log linear regression model. The estimated model explains about 48% of the variation in market prices of sheep. Price per kilogram live weight increases with animal characteristics such as age, live weight and grade. Type of sellers, buyers’ purposes, and buyer type are also important variables in affecting prices. Pastorals, agro-pastorals, and farmers tend to sell their animals at price discounts as compared to trader sellers. Sellers suffer from price discounts in selling to buyers with business purposes in comparison to selling to ultimate consumers. Price per kilogram live weight increases with the time of transaction suggesting that sellers tend to obtain higher prices by selling at later hours of a market day. A study was conducted from January to May, 2015 with the objective to assess cattle fattening and marketing system in north western Ethiopia of north Gondar zone by interviewing 120 cattle fattener households selected purposively. 40% of household source of income were livestock production. Half of the respondents selecting cattles for fattening were red coat color and 80% of them were castrating male animals before the commencement of fattening. Fattening length and age for oxen were 3 months and 7 years old, respectively. From the total of respondents the major sources of feed used for cattle fattening were bean straw (26.67%), nug cake (23.33%), chick pea (16.67%), wheat bran (13.33%), barely straw (10%) and teff straw and hay (3.33%). Decisions on end of cattle fattening period were considering on rate of live weight change (56.67%). Market of fattened animals was during main holidays. The price was highest from February to June, whereas low from September to January. Marketing of beef cattle practiced by bargaining and farmers, cattle traders, whole sales and retailers were involved. The maximum and minimum price of fattened cattle in the dry and wet season was 20000 ETB, 10000 ETB and 13000 ETB, 8000 ETB, respectively. Lack of capital (40%) were the main constraint to begin cattle fattening and other constraints were shortage of feed and water, insufficient land, occurrence of disease and lack of awareness in order of importance 26.67%, 16.67%, 10%, 6.67%, respectively. Therefore, from the present study, it can be conclude that cattle fattening in north western Ethiopia of north Gondar zone is one of the potential strategy to improve the livelihood of the family and had a good potential of market flow.
